I came her for my mom and FaceTimed her in Texas and she loved every minute of it. Got her a bunch of fabric from one aisle and there were about 300 more to look through lol. So so so so much but it is a wait due to the workers having to measure out every single fabric by yard half yard quarter yard whatever it is you need and when someone has as many fabrics as my dad and I did well, lock in. I had heard of Mills End so while on vacation in Tahoe, I made the drive over. It's a big place for sure! They didn't have what I was looking for - lace type fabric to use for bleach and sun printing. I didn't look closely at any of the quilting cotton fabric but there was a lot! The inventory felt old and dated but the low prices more than make up for it. It's worth a visit if you're close by. read more

This was my first time shopping at Mill End Fabrics. I don't have any experience when it comes to looking for fabrics. When I got there I was really confused and didn't know where to find what I was looking for. I was hoping that one of the stores employees would see that I was just aimlessly wondering around and kind of lost (It's a big store) but no one noticed me. So I finally went up to the counter and asked for some help. I told the employee behind the counter that I was looking for some Crimson colored red wool. She pointed to a certain isle and said that it was down there. I eventually picked out some fabric that I thought was Crimson Red Wool. So I brought the whole roll of wool up to the counter to be measured out. The employee asked me how much I needed and I said only a yard. Well there was a more than a yard left on the roll and the employee said that they couldn't leave the remaining amount ( 8inches) on the roll. So I was nice enough to purchase and pay for the extra 8 inches that I didn't even need. So when I finally got home I realized that I purchased the wrong color of wool. So I immediately called the store and said that I had bought the wrong color. They told me that they don't do returns unless it's more than two yards of fabric. I would've been a repeat customer as I also needed to come back to buy a Zipper. But after this experience I will NEVER go back to Mill End Fabrics again. James Butner read more

I love walking through the isles of fabric and as I am new to sewing, at my age, I am loving this store. I usually go to Mill End with my sis in law, KD, I'm taking a page from her book; sewing with a purpose. Making items that are useful and generally needed. She has been a great help and mentor to me in this crazy journey of sewing. I crochet also and I thank KD for suggesting that I should get a hobby when I was grieving my husband's passing. I heard about this place from my FIL and MIL because of the wide selection to choose from for fabrics making clothes and reupholstering. They have visited from out of town multiple times in the last few years. They drove 4 hours to visit this place and never had any complaints about this place. After a few years since my in-laws have gone, I decided to check out this place for myself. They had such great service I thought I would have the same experience they did. I have gone to this place twice with the complete opposite experience. I have been ignored and the service was unfriendly to colored people darker than their shade of skin color, or younger designers. The 2 times I have gone to this place they offered help to older people with lighter skin. I have witnessed the other skin color of people being ignored and some walked out with absolutely nothing in their hand. I had placed items I purchased at the cash register and asked if I could leave it at the counter, while many other customers were still shopping. One of the workers could have worded it differently, but I took it offensively when she said " I'll place your items here because these are for paying customers." I was caught off guard by that statement, as it was rude. I didn't steal the items. I walked out with about $50-80 worth of sewing stuff. If you're darker than being white, or don't have gray hair and wrinkles this place is not for you. I could be proven wrong one day, but both my experiences I will not be returning. I have found other large fabric distribution companies to choose from. ALL based on observations from each visit. By the way my MIL is white, and has grey hair too. Skin color or appearance shouldn't determine how they want to provide customer service. Equality for all matters. I loved their wide selections, but this place was overwhelming to choose from the different fabrics and it would have been nice to have a employee who cared to give me a tour of the place to understand where I could locate things. I was looking lost and confused, and they still weren't offering to assist me, but instead they just stared at me and watched me struggle. I was literally in front of them most of the time. Not one person, when they had 2 older ladies with gray hair and 1 younger brunette with a bob hair cut to assist, and they weren't swamped with customers. But as soon as they saw an older white male with gray hair they offered him assistance and greeted him. I didn't get any of that type of service. Such a BIG disappointment! The rating is a "0" Being focused on ONLY attracting clients based on lighter skin and grey hair. read more

It's an awesome store an old building with tall shelves full of every fabric you could imagine. I go into this store every chance I get. I live in Lovelock so it's a drive but I love going down to Reno. I've used this store for fabric, for Upholstery for my 65 dodge van, for tri glide buckles, ladder lock buckles webbing. I haven't bought any leather there yet but I guarantee I will. There's a bin of leather scraps of every kind you can imagine near the entrance. There are whole hides you can buy as well. Holy macaroni, fabric galore! I Visited Mill End Fabrics with a friend whom is new to the sewing world. We browsed the aisles and aisles of fabric & supplies and eventually found the fabric we were looking for. After standing in line, we reached Diana, whom would help cut our fabric and write up our purchase for the cashier (everything is handwritten on old style pads). Diana helped my friend identify all of the items they'd need to complete their project. She provided several recommendations & gave a few tips and tricks. She definitely went above and beyond what was expected. The store is clean, welcoming. All of the employees are cheerful and helpful. Incredible. My friend had a project to reupholster patio chairs (requires specific fabric). I had a project to reupholster dining chairs. I found this store on Yelp and we decided to visit. It's out in the very industrial part of town, and the storefront looks like a... garage or warehouse... we walk in, feeling glad that we weren't alone. BOOM. This place has EVERY FABRIC known to mankind. Of course, looking for the right stuff is challenging, and the help on the floor is scarce. But, strangely, finding the sections for what you have in mind is not tough. Interesting. In few minutes we both found what we want. Still worried that we may be treated like we had no idea what we were endeavoring for, we brought the big rolls to the cutting area. I had done the homework and knew the estimate of yardage I'd need, but wasn't quite confident. The staff asked what we were using them for, how many chairs, size, etc... then gave us a recommendation. They had the notions and parts for the projects right on their hands. Very kind, very accommodating, very assuring. The price? AMAZING. I can go on and on about the wonderful treatment we received from different staffs. But nothing can beat the real thing. If you have a sewing project in mind, or DIY project that involves fabric, I highly recommend that you go to this place. Things happen, and when then they do, this store is a Godsend. In our situation we needed to redo our barstools, and yet we had no real skill or ability to do it ourselves. I know, shocking. We turned to a friend who would take on the project, but we needed to buy the material, and this was the first on her list, and now I know why. When you walk into the store it's a bit like walking into Disneyland on a crowded day. You don't know, for sure, where to start, what happens next, or where to get a churro. We asked the employees where to go, they pointed it out, and their were about eight quality choices of varying color, materials, and textures for us to decide from. Our next step was to have the material cut to order. We simply brought our material up to the employees, waited for our turn to have it cut, returned the uncut material to its original location, and got in line and paid what we thought was a very reasonable priced. Alas, there were no churros, but the store has a great variety of options and ideas, friendly help, good prices, and plenty of parking. When we're in the market for more material...this will be our go to stop. read more

However, if you like sensory overload, find it fun to narrow your search down from 50,000 choices to one, or just want to pretend your in New York starring in Project Runway ... well my friends this is your paradise destination. I am a first timer at refoaming and refabricating my dining room chairs. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable in helping and answering questions. Using my wood seat form as the guideline for cutting the foam exactly to the shape it needed to be, that will make finishing up the project that much easier. Can't deny that that barrel of buttons wasn't calling my name. Just imagine how much fun it would be to dive in and discover how many ways someone reimagined the ordinary, under appreciated common button! Life goals people!!! Wow! What a fantastic place to shop for fabrics, vinyl, and any sewing supplies you can dream up of. I have a small project of reupholstering some chairs. The previous owner of the chairs had some nasty creatures that attracted fur and some awful stains on the chairs. I knew of this business but never ventured in the warehouse. Boy am I glad, I came here to get my project done. The warehouse seemed endless as far as materials. The help was pretty darn fantastic too! I got some primo fabric to reupholster the chairs with, a fabric called "sunbrella", also they had an assortment of foam to fit my needs, I wanted a denser foam to do the job with and got recommended and very nice dense foam to do the job, I even got some new backer material to finish it off. I cannot praise this warehouse enough, the help was pretty fantastic, the variety of high end fabrics is overwhelming and I felt the prices were pretty darn reasonable. This might be a pretty fun project to do. read more
