I called in and placed an order for curbside service. My mom was making masks to give away, and needed some bright fabric and other supplies. They told me I could come by anytime and park in the designated pick up area. The pick up went smooth and easy and fast. The fabric they choose for my mother was very nice and she loved their choices. I most recently went into Mill End looking for a fabric to reupholster my dining room chairs. While I ended up finding the PERFECT fabric, it took a lot of hunting. As you can see from some of the photos, Mill End has a lot of fabric that will meet all needs you could possibly have. Unfortunately, with a huge selection there is fabric stacked on top of fabric stacked on top of fabric. The rows of thick materials for upholstery were hard to work my way through, it was difficult to see the fabrics, and it was very hard to get a fabric down from the shelf to examine it closer. The lighting in those rows also wasn't the best. Ultimately, I will be going back to Mill End when I need something for a special project. The employees were helpful and the prices are totally reasonable. It just takes too much time and work to sort through everything they have. read more

This is a treasure of a store! We needed some foam to build some box seats for our school bus conversion. We had already been to Joanns fabric and bought something we thought could get us by. Last minute we decided to check here wondering if they had better foam and if it could be cut to size - winner!!!! Yes they hit that mark and were soooooo helpful! We have a wonderful 5 inch sturdy foam cushion for our bench seats and some fabric to cover them. If you need help they are great with suggestions and I wasn't intimidated by my lack of knowledge whatsoever! read more

The ladies are super friendly, the prices superb (from my estimate about $2-$5 cheaper than Joanne's). For instance, minky fabric is $10/yd here where as most everywhere else I've ever looked it is is $14.99/yd. they have carts and aisles upon aisles of 3 shelves of fabric. They have the aisles labeled but it is just handwritten signs, nothing fancy here as far as hardplated labels or even computer print outs. But you're getting killer deals on fabric, so the fancy stuff is unnecessary. I walked down every aisle and touched all the fabrics, satins and spandex and flannel and cotton. Then I switched sides and toured the boat vinyl aisles before remembering I don't own a boat. I then traversed the towers of tussles, every type and color of tussle you can think of. I'm a newbie sew-er and it was just so damn much fun. Even at such great prices, it's easy to spend a lot in here. But I also got tons of fabric for tons of projects. It looks like mostly older ladies work the desk and again, old fashioned, hand tabulations and additions, so don't come here in a hurry is the biggest downfall but they are all so sweet and friendly who gives a damn. If you're an avid sew-er or just need something for a small project be sure to check them out before heading to Joanne's or even Walmart (about $1-$3 cheaper than Walmart). read more

The first time I went I walked around with a shopping card for a couple of hours because I was enjoying the choices so much. I've never done that before. A sewing enthusiast paradise! I had heard about this magical place from a friend, and I am so glad I made time in my vacation to visit. My now husband and I eloped and brought some friends to be our witness. I had told them that before we leave Reno we had to stop and visit here so I can experience this place. The guys dropped me and my friend off and we went ham. We went down every aisle in awe looking at all the fabric. We had about an hour before they closed and we went zooming aisle to aisle. This place put our local fabric warehouse to shame. It is so spacious and clean! They have rows and rows of beautiful fabric. They even have a barrel of buttons!!! We regret not exploring that thing because we were on a time crunch. Everything is really affordable. The one thing I loved the most was their applique wall. The staff were really helpful and got me all the appliques I wanted even as they were closing. My friend and I had to wait outside of the building since they were locking up. One of the nice workers who helped us asked if we would be ok since she knew we were tourists. We said the boys were on their way and we can't wait to come back to Reno again to visit :D I highly recommend checking this place out! read more

Terrific place, although it doesn't look like it at first, it's well organized and easy to find what you're looking for. An employee climbed up to a second level to bring me several samples of upholstery fabric in the color I was searching for -- I didn't even ask him to look for it, he just offered. I ended up buying three yards of one of the samples at a very reasonable price. Now I know where to go when I need more upholstery fabric and supplies. read more

Moderately priced. They have gone out of their way to teach me how to and let me use their special tools for my projects. Oh my! I absolutely love this place! My mom showed it to me years and years ago when I was about 10-12 years old when I really got into sewing. This place has it all! They have such a huge selection of fabric. It doesn't matter if you are making a button down shirt, a fancy princess dress, recovering a chair, making curtains or putting together a quilt this place has you covered. And they also have a large selection of foam for all your project's needs. They have all the notions that you will need for your projects. Patterns, buttons, zippers, thread, scissors, bias tape... you name it they will have it. They best part is that they are fairly priced. Mill End Fabrics, a seamstress and DIY upholsterers's dream. They have a plethora of fabrics, notions and foam/batting to choose from. On this visit I was there to purchase foam batting as we were redoing a couple of springs on our couch, but had to rip it apart and replace the foam and batting to get to the springs. Mark greeted me upon entering the store and helped me find the correct foam and batting I needed. He was very knowledgeable and surprisingly knew exactly what section of the store to find everything I was looking for. Their pricing is quite comparable if not a little cheaper than other fabric stores in town. Customer service on my visit was great, but I could see how it could easily get backed up here on busy days with only 2-3 people working the store. It can be a pretty overwhelming store with floor to ceiling fabrics if you come here unprepared. Come with an idea of what you are looking for and ask Mark or the other sales people to help you if you are overwhelmed. It's always changing but they keep up to date with everything we needed. They have a knowledgeable staff that is friendly and will give advice. if you are a novice like I am, it is much appreciated. This place is ridiculous!!! That is the only word I can use to describe it. More fabric and notions than you could ever imagine all under one roof. Every type of fabric you could possibly ever want for any project. They have multiple different types of vinyl tablecloth fabric on huge rolls or rows and rows of camouflage fleece. Maybe tulle is more your speed or heavy fabric for curtains, believe me they literally have it all. Chances are you're looking for bright colored faux fur to decorate for Burning Man, they had more to choose from then I thought even existed. It's set up as a huge warehouse, but it's well organized and easy to navigate. Plan on dedicating a decent amount of time to wander through all the amazing finds on fabric you never knew you couldn't live without! The prices are excellent and service is friendly and knowledgeable. Obviously the people that work there sew (they work there to support their fabric addictions I'm sure!) and they're always willing to offer some helpful advice. This is my go-to store for all my sewing needs. The prices are great and competitive to other discount fabric stores in the Bay Area and online. The workers there are always willing to help you find something, call the Carson store, or suggestions on your project. Often when they cut your fabric and the fabric is damaged or stained, they will cut extra for you so you can work around it. Like I mentioned before, prices are great here. Cheapest zippers in town if you are willing to hunt for them. Thread is cheap and okay selection. Needles and other notions are lesser than Joanns or Hancock. While the store has been in flux for the last year re-organizing and moving fabrics, they have made it a bit easier to find stuff. However I'm here a LOT so the firs time you are there it will be rather confusing. Just ask for the location of what you are looking for or read the end cap signs. The downside of this place is if you find something you love buy way more then you think you will need. For when a fabric is gone, chances are you will never see it again. It's nice to have rotating selection, but sucks if you run out of a fabric and they don't have anymore. They do have a few items they always carry, but in general act like you will never see that fabric again. On the plus side, you can find some really unique or vintage fabrics here. You never know what you will find when you walk into this place. read more

I love the prices! Quilting cottons go for around $5 per yard, more or less. The selection is great. This place is literally wall to wall of fabric. The best part of all is the clearance and scrap bin. Scraps are $2 per pound. I was shopping for fabric to make cloth diapers and baby wipes and found everything I needed in the scrap bin - lots of cotton knit, terry cloth, flannel, etc. This is a great place to shop! They prefer not to take credit or debit cards for transactions less than $15, so bring cash or spend a bit more to make their merchant fees worthwhile. read more

Mill End is fantastic. Every kind of fabric and notion you can think of. I have shopped here for outdoor fabrics, Velcro, nylon buckles and fittings... The folks here are knowledgeable and friendly. And they can help you figure out what you need and how to best handle the job. I went in today because a snap broke on my snow pants. I tried to fix it myself, but realized I would need to buy a snap setting tool for $20. Turns out they helped me find the $.40 in parts I needed, and helped me set it using their tool. Be prepared to spend a lot of time searching for what you are looking for - it's overwhelming the number of rolls of fabric that are shoved into every nook and cranny of this warehouse. I shopped here, twice 2 summers ago. I purchased a fab, blue and gold cotton velvet jacquard and a peach, pink in the same design. All upholstery grade. The proprietor was very knowledgeable, and must be a great guy to work for. In fact I told him if I moved to Reno I'd like to work for him. Huge inventory and very well organized! This is my go to source for fabric, trim, and foam! I have used them for everything from a boxed cushion sofa to dog leashes! The assistants are so professional and careful in their cutting of foam, that I could do no better if I did it myself. They carry Sunbrella fabrics fora bargain price at $10/yd which suited my patio budget just fine!their prices on leather hides are fantastic, too. And, take the time to look through their home dec trims, which make trimming your pillows and curtains, very affordable! Lovely staff who, clearly, have technical and creative backgrounds! This place is amazing- chock full of fabrics, notions, decorative trims, patterns, upholstery supplies (foam), honestly anything related to home decor or costuming or industrial projects. I get lost in here (happily) as I wend my way down aisle after aisle of choices. I can't even count how many projects owe their origins to Mill End. The staff are helpful and responsive and efficient. It reminds me of fabric shops of old in NY where I would go as a kid and spend hours searching & planning for my next creative adventure .
