The selection here is okay if you're making garments, quilting (even rag) is a no go...ever! Fleece selection and price is great and one of the reasons to go here. Warm and natural batting is more expensive than Hancock or anywhere else except high end quilt shops. Price is okay on fabric for garments and there's a nice selection of silk/rayon/syn but the quality of some fabrics reflects the low everyday price. My opinion is that these are 2nd and 3rd cut fabrics not top quality. If you use a coupon or go for a sale at Hancock you can get better quality fabric at close to the same price. Plus their notions are about non-existant, just try to match thread to fabric there...good luck! The real reason for a low rating is the customer service! I agree with the woman from San Jose who said it was bad unless they know you. That was my experience also. I took my daughter here and after she left me to go to the bathroom she came back freaked out. She said one of the ladies who worked there grabbed her and hugged her upon coming out of the bathroom. I'm all for being kind to the elderly but my daughter said the woman was creepy and followed her around the store until she found me. When we were checking out and having bolts cut the same lady was behind the counter teasing my daughter, the lady cutting our fabric seemed to catch on and a very odd conversation about history ensued...seriously not what I would consider professional conduct by either of these employees. I was proud of my daughter for handling them with kindness but when we left she asked if we could never go there again, and we won't...when I got home my fabric was cut seriously wonkey. Out of the 8-10 yards we bought none of them were cut remotely straight. No thanks to strange old ladies who get their kicks from scaring kids and messing with someone's purchase, we'll skip it next time! A friend did have a great report going there for seat material and foam for a motorcycle seat on a bike he was restoring...so maybe it was just us but low quality fabric + our customer service experience means I won't be back unless necessary. read more

I have only been sewing for about 2 years and I was introduced to this store by a friend of mine. I used to go to Joann's, only with coupons, but Mill End Fabrics is my go to store, for fabric, zippers, whatever I need they usually can beat any price in town. The staff is super friendly and ready to answer any question that you might have. read more

This place is a "Must Do" when I visit Reno. they have so many great fabrics, but the best part is the findings. There are huge buckets of buttons and boxes of other accessories. I always find things that I want/need and the prices are great. I only bought an almost full leather skin there, great quality, for about $40. really good price for such an item. read more

I just start to do sawing projects when we moved down here about two years ago. I live this places. I just bought fabric 2 yards stretch velvet 6 in by 2 yard white fake fur for a Santa bag , Then about 2 yard of "Upholstery Fabric and all the hardware . Lets not forget the 9 yards of white lace I got for 3.00. For a grand total of 35.00. The women who work there are life saver and have walk me throw how to do a few small project or helped me find what I may need. I love this places. read more

I been shopping here for years and really love this store. I have bought lots of denim, brushed canvas, camo and assorted knits. They have a good selection of the knit ribbing used for jacket waistbands and sleeve cuffs that is surprisingly hard to find. You can ask for help or just explore and discover. I advise you to check the fold for fading and wear on some pieces as they may have become shop worn. Lots of zippers, toggles, buckles, small leather pieces and patches. If you see something you want buy it now as it may not be there next time. I still cry over the oil cloth I passed by. Everyone is super friendly and helpful and they can do math. Be amazed as they add up your check by hand. There is a mirror in the back so you can color check your fashion projects. They also carry a lot of outdoor and upholstery fabric and I once saved my favorite napping couch by replacing the cushions with their high density foam cut to order. read more

This is the go to fabric store for random and interesting finds that are not only awesome, but super cheap, I found this really cool toile fabric for 5 dollars a yard and went to a few other fabric stores, found the same fabric for 12 dollars a yard, just saying. read more

After a quick roam-through to get the lay of the land a couple weeks ago, I returned today and bought a few things. I was able to find the pure white or ivory linen I wanted, some nice silk herringbone fabric for a lining, and some linen/cotton fabric for underlining today. All of those were on my admittedly flexible list for today. I didn't find any black cotton velveteen today, in either the upholstery section or the apparel section. Granted, I only took a quick run through both areas, and didn't even look through the flat goods. And I didn't find any other must-have fabric today, but I was short on time and didn't browse in other areas of the store. So yeah, I'm happy. The prices were excellent for what I bought (pure linen for $5.40 a yard!). read more

This store would be much better if it were somewhat organized. The zippers are thrown about under the cutting table, which means finding a zipper would take hours. The rest of the store could use some cleaning all around. I will say that the fabrics are very well priced. I had limited time in this store, I will come back when I have hours to snoop through everything. Best to have pattern yardage info with you as they don't carry patterns like vogue etc. I would have bought more fabric if I could have looked up the pattern info in store. read more

Yes the selection is unbelievable! I don't even know how big that place is... but it's too big and unmanageable! Looking for upholstery fabric was overwhelming an unorganized (where are the prices, too?!), the other side of the store however seemed much better! The service was friendly but checkout lines weren't clear and stressed customers (especially during Burning Man season) were not kind and made the experience a little sour. :( read more

This place is so awesome! Locally owned- all the people working there are so helpful! I went there to get sticky velcro to serve as a walking line in my classroom! So cheap- I think I ended up spending 8 bucks and this would have cost me over 30 online!! I love all the variety and choices! It's no Stone Mountain and Daughter, but right now their selection of wools is unbelievable and *really* reasonably priced compared to a place like JoAnn's. They had a pretty reasonable range of colors, too. If a fabric is flawed and not marked as is, they are willing to work with you if you ask. They also burn test at the counter if you want to figure out exactly what that blend consists of. That being said, I don't care too much about how poorly things are organized because I'm there for one thing and one thing only: wool. read more

This is a great local place to shop for fabric, sewing and craft supplies like zippers, velcro, thread, buttons, pillow forms, just about anything craft related. In fact, they have the biggest selection of velcro I have ever seen. The sales people are so helpful and friendly. And the prices are incredible . . . just pennies on the dollar compared to the big box craft stores. After shopping at Mill End, I can't imagine why anyone local would ever shop big box again. read more

This was exactly the place we wanted for the custom-cut foam rubber we were looking for. And while they were cutting the pieces we wanted, we mentioned some other things we might want, and they suggested we have a look on the back shelves: sure enough, they had once again exactly what we wanted. OMG! This place is AHHHHHMAZING! I'm a L. A. fabric shopper and this place is WAYbetter!!!! I went looking for nylon lycra's and I found an entire aisle with 3 rows full!! Super cute too. The prints were a little more than I usually pay but the solids were a lot less so it evens out. The notions were O. K. This place was OVERWHELMING. Huge selection, the labeling system could use some work. The prices were very reasonable. I didn't get asked if I needed help by any staff while I was wandering around, but when I was at the cutting table, the lady was very willing to head back into the aisles with me to look for something. They had a bowl full of halloween candies to keep shoppers going! My husband was in the truck & camper in the parking lot, and didn't feel 100% secure leaving it since there were some shifty characters and such right behind the parking lot. read more

After not being waited on at Jo-Ann's last night, I went to Mill's End this morning, received a friendly greeting and an offer of help, which I gladly accepted, was shown the fabrics that I was interested in and had the differences explained to me, promptly and cheerfully had my fabric cut and was on my way! They have every kind of fabric imaginable, from 70's knits to extra wide upholstery fabric, plus tons of contemporary decorating and garment fabric, plus the notions that you can only find in upscale tailoring shops. This is one of my new favorite places. This is like an amusement park. For adults. ... weird adults, okay. But adults nonetheless. They have everything here. You wouldn't think so, but when you walk through the door, you slowly realize they have everything you ever wanted. Do you need that upholstery fabric with zebra-stripes? What about all that leather? Japanese silks? I might not have thought so, but now I'm not so sure. On the other side of the store are a vast amount of pattern fabrics, and different clothes that I can see making gowns, and costumes, and scrubs, and cushions, and I could really go on. What really makes this place, however, isn't the variety the offer (though this is a huge plus) but the fantastic prices. I have walked out of here on multiple occasions with less than $200 gone. I bought 30-35 different fabrics every time. What I was most recently impressed with was the pricing on the Japanese silks... I bought 2 yards of most all of the types they had, and wouldn't you know it, less that $200. That's impossible to find in any of the other fabric stores in all of Reno/Sparks. I like Joanne's, really I do. But there is no comparison. This is my go-to fabric store, and if they don't have what I'm looking for, I just as easily decide I don't need it. They have so many different things I could substitute it with anyways. Now, as for the workers here, they all clearly know what they're doing. All of them are always talking about the jobs customers have them do, because apparently there are a lot of people who buy fabric who need pointers on how to do the jobs they got the fabric for. All the better for it, because I know these people here have me in good hands. They are prepared for giving advice, and more than knowledgeable to lead you into the right direction as far as your ideas go. At the very least this place deserves a once-over. You don't have to commit to buying anything, but I suggest you bring your wallet anyway. You'll kick yourself if you don't. read more

I have honestly been going to mill end for over 30 years. I can remember my kids hiding in the upholstery ! You can find anything and everything your looking for, and in every color scheme. Check your fabrics I have found flaws that have caused me to have to buy more after I've gotten home, I always ask for just a little bit extra because they do not always cut straight. It matters. However, the reason for this mediocre review is the last time in, I brought in a piece of trim that I had bought previously, the lady with the (obvious) black wig said she had never seen it, and they didn't carry it, didn't bother to look, or help me find it. I was left on my own to ferret it out. Don't even bother asking the gal with the headband and pigtails anything, she obviously HATES her job. If you just want to go shop and be left alone, your in the right place. The sister (owners) will help if you ask them, but your right they have good/bad attitude days. Product/price usually ok, but customer service has definitely seen better days. I'm sorry owners. read more
