This was a very nice shaded spot under a huge Banyan tree (planted in 1885) located at the Moana Surfrider aka the First Lady of Waikiki. Having been at this location for 125 years as of 2026, this hotel is a piece of Waikiki history and offers a pretty epic place to enjoy a cocktail! Many flock to Duke's, but I prefer this place. Way more low-key and offers a scenic view of Waikiki, surfers riding the small waves and lovers walking hand in down the tropical beach. What a nice place to enjoy a cocktail! The servers are super busy and everyone wants a frozen drink. It can be hard to catch their eye, but when you do, you'll have a coldy delivered pronto! read more

Awkward spill of an entire pina colada (not even our order) on my new leather designer purse colored my experience at Moana Surfrider. She apologized repeatedly and ended up giving us Kama'aina rate (that didn't cover the cost of my aperol spritz) was further disappointing. I had the Argentine steak frites, hubby had the burger, daughter had surfrider bowl. But hard to enjoy when my lap and purse were sticky. The other put off was a large man seated at the best table in the restaurant (on the corner next to the beach) with his own liquor and food and family on the beach freely enjoying all the shade, table, and restaurant perks. Ordered their burger at pool bar area. It was quite delicious and included not just the juicy beef burger but also pipikaula slices and a special sauce. It is a bit messy to eat because of how juicy the burger is, but they give you multiple wet wipes to clean your hands so don't let the messiness description deter you from ordering this. It comes with french fries that are also quite tasty. Couldn't finish both the burger and fries so I took the fries home and they were still delicious as leftovers. We were there for the Fourth of July weekend meaning it was very busy, but the wait staff were really on it. The environment was a combination of busy and yet relaxing. Lots of people because of the holiday but it easy to relax in such a nice beach environment at such a beautiful Hotel. read more

This place surprised us in the best way possible! I normally don't have high hopes for hotel restaurants, but the food is on point here and not overly heavy. We ordered the catch of the day and the steak frites. Highly recommend both! The kids menu is a bit pricey at $20 an entree, but the portions are huge, so you can definitely have them share. Overall, pricing is on par with what you would likely expect at a more casual hotel restaurant, as we spent a little over $100 for two entrees plus a kids meal. We really enjoyed sitting by the ocean, taking in the island breeze and listening to the live music. Our server was also great. Every time we go to Honolulu, this is a must stop for us. It's outside the Moana surf Rider hotel and you can't beat the view of Waikiki Beach. It's literally right at the edge of the sand. The food is a little pricey, but you expect that in Hawaii. That said, they've got a well rounded menu, but truthfully, we're going for the location, not the food. If you go towards the evening, they typically have live music and you do not have to be a guest at the hotel to enjoy it. This little area on Waikiki Beach is one of our favorites. Enjoy! read more

I haven't sat at the bar in 18 years, with some buddies. I was hanging out here in 2005 a lot. I had a virgin pina colada and garlic fries. The fries were so plentiful and I was already full before I sat down. I just wanted to support the bar and have more than just a pina colada. Atmosphere is always so nice here. Pro's: Contrary to most Yelp reviews about the food that I read prior to dining here, I really enjoyed my "Surfrider Burger". I added avocado for the thrill of it. My daughter's Caesar salad was crisp and drenched in dressing just how we like it! Very satisfying meal after swimming and snorkeling with the sea turtles!! Right by the beach and very aware of it, The Beach Bar is the kind of place where you're mostly paying for the view -- but to be fair, it's a good one. I had the ahi poke bowl, which was fresh and satisfying, though definitely leaning hard on the ginger. There's no reservation system here, so seating is kind of a casual free-for-all. Moana Surfrider is a family favorite. We've celebrated the most memorable occasions here. Every time we're on the island we always stop by and grab some bites + drinks. However, the food isn't as good as I remember... The service here is amazing. The staff is very attentive and friendly. It's located in the beach side of the hotel surrounded by the water and pools. It can get pretty busy. I appreciate that. I ordered the poke bowl which I kinda regret but I didn't want anything else on the menu, there isn't a wide selection. I wasn't as impressed. Maybe it's because I have high expectations for poke at a restaurant but next time I'll opt in for the burger which was better or the Salmon Soba noodles. There was something off putting about the bowl, the rice seemed over cooked and the fish was skimpy. Skip this and get something else! I remember their steak & fish tacos being good. Always my first stop when I touch down on Oahu! The chicken wings alone are enough for me to return every single time. They truly are like no other - crispy, with a hint of coconut and tamarind and delicious even down to the garnish! The sweet chilis on top are the perfect touch to balance out the flavors. We always pair it with the edamame and recently got a salad which easily turned into another go-to item. Not only is the food fresh and amazing, you get a beautiful view of the beach and are walking distance to all of the shops downtown. Stopped in for a drink on our last night in Oahu and it couldn't have been nicer. Our server was great and they had live music. We could've gotten a table overlooking the water, but it was in the sun, so we chose to sit a little further back in order to get some shade. I only had a strawberry lemonade ($6), but it was really delicious and refreshing; the taste of strawberry came through really nicely and it wasn't too sweet. The tang of the lemons balanced everything beautifully. My friend ordered their Traditions of Hawai'i cocktail ($19) and loved it; she had never had li hing mui powder before and found it exotic. It's a "pickle mango Margarita with a blend of Maestro Dobel, Coitreu, Mango, Agave, and Lime, dusted with Li Hing Mui". Whatever... she loved it and had two! With her second drink we decided to get an order of their fries with garlic and cheese ($13). The order was huge and we couldn't finish them. A friend recommended that we check out the Beach Bar at Moana and I'm so glad we did. It was the perfect Hawaiian ambiance here with the beachfront dining and tropical drinks. So ... the Beach Bar .... Was it a good decision to start day drinking at 11am? Right after having food and mimosas at 8 am? I mean .... I loved laying on the beach and swimming in the ocean ... Saw that this one was literally a 10 second walk from where we were (don't ask why we didn't notice) ... and proceeded to secure a table and wait the 10 minutes for them to open. Our waitress ... I think her name was Andrea ... don't quote me!! She was amazing!! Came and checked on up frequently. We ordered a strawberry daiquiri and my other half had Mai Tais. I think I had 5 of those bad boys .... My husband said my face was super red, but I'm blaming the sun. We ended up waiting for friend of ours to join us ... so we were there for 4 hours just sipping cocktails!! I can't remember having such a relaxing morning!! 10/10 would go again :D Do it one day!! We've been here 3 times now when we have visited Oahu in the last 3 years. Each time, we have only come specifically for their Mai Tais and have had their poke nachos twice. With that said, I highly recommend both and haven't tried anything else. Why their Mai Tai? They have 3 different kinds to choose from, and they're all solid drinks. We've never been disappointed with their Mai Tai drinks, and it is well worth the price that will deliver you a good buzz and more. Their 1944 Mai Tai is the least sweet and the most stiff drink. Get this one if you want to get to the point with a drink. The Moana Mai Tai is the in between with some sweetness that makes it easier to drink. I like this one the most personally because I don't like my drinks too sweet. Their Moana Sunset Mai Tai is their sweetest drink and would be good for those who likes it more sweet or don't drink as much Mai Tais. Their poke nachos have always been good when we've gotten it. This is easily shareable between 2-3 people, depending on how hungry you are. I love their wonton chips for these nachos and the poke is fresh. Lots of flavor and easy to eat. We usually have stumbled upon here while walking along the beach. It's open seating when we've gone for lunch time and it may be hard to grab a table. Service can be a bit slow at times during the busier times. We've also been here at night and it was quite the vibe with the lights on the banyan tree and live music. If you're looking for a solid Mai Tai, definitely make a stop here! We will continue to come here whenever we visit Oahu. read more

We didn't partake on any food, but found the drink menu to be exceptionally good. THE DRUNK DRINKS. - Moana Sunset Mai Tai | Organic dark rum with passionfruit, orgeat, and orange cordial. A pineapple wedge tops this citrusy cocktail. Bonus points - the cup it comes in is yours to keep. - 1944 Mai Tai | Sweet, citrusy, and it's got a pineapple wedge. It tastes similar to the Moana Sunset Mai Tai. - Riptide | Coconut, pineapple, and a minty little after taste. This is a blended slushy type of cocktail, so prepare for that brain freeze. - Honolulu Beerworks (HBW) Makakilo Brown Ale | Smoky maltiness. Not quite New Castle, but similar. THE PARKING. There's valet parking, but we opted to find parking elsewhere. Where did we park, you might ask? No clue. Looking for a light dinner after watching the sunset, we practically stumbled on in, with self-seating and completely open with music playing in the background, it was a beautiful chill vibe. Sunday evening girls get together. We decided to play tourists and check out the Beach Bar at the Moana. **kamaaina discount** you gotta mention it. No reservations, you just gotta observe who is leaving soon and grab a table. It didn't take long for the 4 of us. The drinks were delicious but for 20$ and served in a plastic cup was a little disappointing but maybe people have been stealing the glass cups?!? Despite being in plastic the Riptide, tradition of Hawaii and Ly-Chi Chi were delicious. Ambiance is amazing here with the beach, live music and at the historic Moana hotel backdrop can't be beat. When we arrived at the Surfrider, we checked in, were hungry, were thirsty and we immediately went to try our first ever Mai Tai in Hawaii. I still remember my first beer, and so this Mai Tai will set the gold standard for Mai Tai's, and then I encounter our first challenge: there are three different Mai Tai's on the menu to choose from. So, what do we do? We try all three. It's only logical. As you might suspect, I can't remember the names of the different drinks, but suffice it to say I preferred the sweeter one, and I also like the fact that one was a fundraiser for the fire victim's recovery in La Haina. Over the course of our stay at the hotel, we ended up eating here on two occasions, drinking here on three occasions, and feeling like it was my backyard on every occasion. Only my back yard does not but up against the Pacific Ocean at one of the most crowded beaches on the Island. There were a lot of people, and we were here during the slower season. It's hard to imagine what the place would look like when it was the busy season. We had multiple servers, none of them more than once, and they were all consistently interested in taking care of my wife and I, thus the repeat visits. We were well watered, well attended, well fed, and we enjoyed the cocktails too. The environment was special. The Surfrider has built this bar below the shade of banyan trees, and if you've not yet experienced these trees be sure to seek some out and walk among them. It's an experience that you won't soon forget. Here they help to contribute to a special location serving special drinks and food, and it's worth serious consideration, even if you're not staying at the hotel. All in all, we enjoyed the service, the Mai Tai's, the food, and the trees. Whenever we return to Waikiki, we will be thinking about going to this spot. They've set the bar high as every Mai Tai I drink is compared to the first one's that I had here. Enjoy! read more
