I love the Barrel House! I've been able to find beers and wine that I can't find anywhere else in Ohio. An example would be as pictured, my favorite beer from my home state of Oregon. The beer list is very large with great examples of just about every different type you can think. This is all in a beautiful, small but cool space. Finally, the service is always top notch. If we keep "discovering" these great hangouts in downtown Dayton, we might just have to get out a BIT more often!! The Barrel House is a cozy, comfortable "lounge" with something for just about everyone! We decided to stroll over here to check this place out after beginning our evening at Warped Wing Brewery around the corner. Sooooo many great, obscure beer choices available, literally from floor to ceiling!! Come in with half an idea of what you want, or browse around for a bit, if you can, as it can get kind of cramped on a busy night. We got our drinks, didn't find any available seats, but snuck into a cozy, tight, ROMANTIC phone booth-sized little hideaway room. If you want a hard-to-find craft beer or a special, limited-run beer, the Barrel House is where you want to go. Unlike a standard "beer store", Barrel House is, quite clearly, focused on carrying a smaller selection of harder-to-find and more specialized beers. While the Barrel House also has a bunch of beers on-tap for drinking right in the establishment, you can also pick up a lot of the sealed single bottles or 6 packs to take home with you. Don't expect to find Bud Light or any other "national household beer brand" in here. They don't have it. Walking into the Barrel House is an experience in itself. I'd describe it as "pleasantly hipster". There's noticeably loud - but not obnoxiously-so - music playing over the speakers. I've been told they do a lot of Wu Tang - so expect music along those lines. The music is loud enough to muffle the sounds of conversations going on in the draft beer areas, but it's not so loud that I can't talk to the person next to me very comfortably. As someone who is really sensitive and annoyed by loud music, I was perfectly fine. It was louder than your usual "browsing the grocery store" music, but not bad by any means. In addition to the music, there's the decor. Barrel House definitely has the "small business" feel to it with posters and information about local events right on the bulletin board right when you walk in. There are soft, well-worn, comfortable-looking couches in addition to record players (available for use), and a giant bookshelf full of books available for reading. In addition, they also have board games for playing purposes. Scattered along these features are shelves upon shelves of well-organized sealed bottles of beer. A lot of the beer is sold in single bottles, but a couple of the select beers are sold in 6 packs. There's an entire "Build your Own 6 Pack" area full of lots of beers - some local, some not. There's a slim section of wine to choose from, but it's clear the Barrel House is definitely focused on beer. While I did not take advantage of those services, the Barrel House also has a pretty plentiful list of beers that are on-tap as well as a good amount of seating for you to drink and chat with friends. I was impressed by their use of a small clipboard for you to fill out when ordering Flights, though. I'd imagine that reduces confusion at the bar and gives you an easy-reference of what you're drinking. Fantastic idea there (that I'm surprised more breweries don't use). Staff was friendly as well. He was clearly very laid-back and comfortable with his job, and he greeted us when we walked in, but he was quick to let us be once he'd explained the business and where to find things. Be aware that, because of the rareness of a lot of these beers, the prices are a bit higher than what you'd normally expect to spend on bottles of beer. These are beers to be savored - not really beers to be chugged down with no regards to taste. For example, a beer we loved that was out of stock everywhere else in town had quite a few singles available for purchase here. MUST GO!!! While visiting Dayton this was my absolute favorite spot of the day! Amazing beer selection, cozy little spot to relax, old vinyl records playing over head, and staff that genuinely loves their jobs! I was absolutely shocked when I saw Brink Brewery beers in the selection. It's my all time favorite small brewery in Cincinnati and not well known everywhere else. It also means someone on staff had to go down to Cincinnati and pick them up or something to that effect because Brink only has there beer in house not in stores. It showed me the folks at The Barrel House are no joke when it comes to providing customers with fantastic selections for customers. The atmosphere was coffee shop meets beer. I could have stayed there for hours! Picked myself up a Barrel House growler for a great price and can't wait to fill it. Highly recommend this place, don't miss out! This was a meeting with some friends from the area. What a great setting for large parties or for 2 to enjoy some smoked items. The wings have great flavor they could be a little more juicy and a little less smoke. That is the key for smoked wings do not over smoke and dry them out. Good drink menu with a wide beer selection. Barrel House is a kitschy unique little bar and bottle shop. It honestly has more of a coffee house / bookstore feel built around good beer, wine and conversation. They have some board games you can play as well. The beer seems to be at the forefront here. You can stop in and have one on draft, bottle or can OR swing by and build your own six pack from their gigantic wall selection. There were somewhere format beers here that we have never seen before. I want to start this review by saying that I wish I could give this place 6+ stars. They get a lot of crap from people who don't like their policies - that being said, they are fantastic. I didn't mind waiting outside for a few minutes before being able to go inside. Great spot, poor location. I have a feeling that if this bar was located within the Oregon District it would be busy all of the time. But their location just across the street from the "Wympee" and "The Cannery" makes them a little obscure, perhaps the best kept secret in Dayton. Always a great craft beer selection covering several beer categories. I prefer dark beers and they never disappoint with their stout and porter selections from local and out of town breweries. They also have a great variety available for purchase off the shelf as well as some wines. The only downfall of the place is their is very limited seating and it gets very crowded on the weekends. Best chance to avoid crowds is early in the day but no guarantees. They don't serve any food so eat before you go. A definite stop for any craft brew lover. read more

We've only been in to purchase beer in the store, but they really have the best selection of hard to find craft beers. While currently pregnant they have been my haven for N/A beers! Though they are not cheap, they have such a good variety and will sell anything as a single can/bottle so you can try before you buy a 6-pack. I think that concept is really great and has helped me a few times. During COVID, and I am sure moving forward, they offer call ahead orders where they put aside whatever you would like to purchase so when you stop in it is a quick process. Combined with their regular social media posts of new beers they have to offer, this is so smart! When we have a little one soon it will be very handy to make the stop even more efficient. Happy to see they have reopened for beer in the store, the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming and the staff is so knowledgeable, I bet drinking at The Barrel House would be very enjoyable. We will definitely stop in for a pint soon. Outstanding place for beer and wine. I have been here a couple times and I like the way they keep their tap list fresh. I have seen they rotate brews weekly. Tonight I had a flight of beer while my wife had a glass of red. Both were great. In addition to the beer on tap, they have a nice selection of bottle beers. You can get singles or 4/6 packs and for those impatient, they can flash freeze to cool your beverage for when you get home. Wine selection is okay with either a white or red regularly available. Check out there event schedule. Some nights the have take overs by a brewery or wine distributer. You can also check if a food truck is going to be on site otherwise you can get snacks. Staff has always been great. I appreciate their patients as I figure out what beers I want to try or answering questions about what they have in bottles. One final note, schedule will show if they have live music. Great place for a date night because you can sit a long tables, comfy sofas in the front or outside patio (of course in winter, outside stuff is not a plus). read more

I'm always glad to see new business pop up downtown. This place has only been open for a week Im sure they will have kinks to work out. Give them a chance. They did a great job with the design of this place. Its very comfortable looking when you walk in the door. They have couches and chairs scattered throughout. I sat on the couch looking out the huge front window. It was very relaxing. They had a decent selection of beers, I believe around 20 to choose from. They also have wine available. They don't offer food but Olive is right across the street and you can carry it in. I'm sure you have have anything you want delivered but Olive would be my choice. They also have carryout beer available. This was the highlight of my visit because they still had bombers of Rhinegeist Ink when everyone else in Dayton has already sold out. I grabbed a couple bottles to go and a Barrel House glass for my collection. Parking shouldn't be a problem. Take a trip down. I write this review after my first visit. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, they have a wide variety of beers for a wide variety of tastes. It has a definite coffee shop vibe, with couches, books and board games for people to peruse. There are also two turntables, and on Sundays (called #VinylVinylSunday), patrons are invited to bring their own albums to play. And there are free donuts on Sunday. Wutang Wednesday!!! Me and my friend came here to see what it was all about. I normally come after work sometimes but now they have actual events during the week which are really good. The dj played Wutang but also other old school hip hop which was nice. Beer selection is pretty massive and if you drink wine there is a very nice selection for that as well. You can purchase your own beer or wine there or drink what is on tap. The staff is pretty cool too. Nice guys! They have a food truck there most of the times if you get hungry however I know they are open to food delivery as well! This is a super cool place! I love the seating areas with the vintage couches. We enjoyed the two beers that we ordered. (Brink Business meeting & 6th sense telepathy). Seating is somewhat limited but we made the best of it playing the card game would you rather (my wife asked me a bunch of questions from cards). The atmosphere is very eclectic with old school furniture, tons of books and a odd selection of different games.
