Food has always been great and is always a great place to grab a bite for food in the summer time.

I attended the July 4th event at Barley Beach House, and unfortunately, it was not worth the nearly $150 per ticket we paid. I'll start with the positives: the staff was friendly and professional, the crowd was great, and the overall atmosphere was enjoyable. Those were easily the best parts of the evening. However, the food was extremely disappointing. It lacked flavor, seasoning, and creativity. The drink selection was also underwhelming. They had already run out of certain beers, and the cookie dessert that was advertised was never available. One thing that was misleading is that the event wasn't actually held at the Barley Beach House restaurant. It took place on the beach, away from the restaurant itself. Although it was advertised as a 21+ event, attendees weren't even allowed to walk into the water to wet their feet. I understand safety concerns and the lack of lifeguards, but for an adults-only event, I expected a little more flexibility. The beach restroom conditions were also unacceptable. They were dirty and had no toilet paper, which should never happen at an event charging premium ticket prices. To make matters worse, a severe thunderstorm rolled in, and the fireworks were completely canceled. While I understand that weather is beyond anyone's control, there was nothing else about the event that justified the cost. Overall, while I appreciated the friendly staff and fun crowd, the food, drinks, amenities, and overall value fell far below expectations. I would not recommend this event, and I would not return. read more

The long black hair in my food wasn't so cute. The lack of anything apart from "I spoke to my boss, and we will take it off your bill" was surprising. Who would want to pay for food like that? In a quality restaurant, the manager would have come over - but not here. The Barley Beach House is on my avoid list. read more

The service was very disappointing, especially for such a beautiful and exclusive location. We arrived right at opening time. First, we were given a menu that did not include breakfast. Then we received a breakfast menu, but were later told that breakfast is only served on weekends. We tried to order guacamole, but were told it was unavailable. There was another dish we tried to order and again they said that they don't have it. We ordered the tuna sandwich, but a completely different dish was brought to the table. Since we had already waited more than 30 minutes, I decided not to send it back and wait even longer. I believe it was tuna tartare, and unfortunately I did not enjoy it at all. We also ordered the hummus plate, which was disappointing. We came hungry, ordered two appetizers, and neither of us could finish our food because we simply didn't like it. The cappuccinos were good compared to the food . We were charged full price for both dishes, even for the one we didn't order)) and when I was handed the pen to sign the receipt, it leaked ink all over my hands. Although they did find an alcohol to hand it over to me to clean myself) The view is beautiful, but based on our experience, I would only recommend coming here for the scenery. read more

I highly recommend this place if you are on the Oakland beach. The lifeguards close down at 6 pm and you make resy to sit on the patio facing the beach under the umbrella. Definitely specific your preference for the beach facing patio because you will end up sitting by door and the ice cream cooler cart with no view of the beach. Been here a few times before , but this experience wasn't really very good . That little piece of Salmon costed $14 dollars and it was the driest salmon I ever had . Service wasn't that great either , only one bartender and too many people at the bar and outside . You basically had to chase the bartender while seating at the bar . The place is adorable and the beach view is great . But looks like they also changed the menu and all they have are burgers and a whole bunch of fried food :( just what you need when it's 90 degrees out ( NOT ) . We came here with two other families and were really impressed by how accommodating the staff was. They patiently helped us choose between several seating options - outdoors, indoors, and even another indoor space around the back- and made switching tables a breeze. The food was a bit pricey for what it was, but you're definitely paying for the beautiful Rye Beach views. We ordered burgers, coconut shrimp, French toast, guacamole, and brunch sliders. Everything came out quickly and was fresh and tasty. The servers struck the perfect balance - attentive without hovering, which was great for our big group. I'm so glad we ended up sitting outside. He crafted the most amazing drink call Smoke on the Sound--perfectly balanced with Mezcal, refreshing, and just the right amount of lime and grapefruit juice. His spicy Paloma was next-level too--bold, zesty, and with just the right kick. You can tell he puts real skill and care into every drink he makes. I've always loved this restaurant -- the food is consistently great, the drinks are excellent, and the ocean view is unbeatable. It's a spot we genuinely look forward to visiting, which makes it hard to write this. During a recent brunch, the indoor entertainment completely missed the mark. A live drummer was playing along with the DJ, but it felt chaotic and out of sync. The drum bursts were jarring, inconsistent, and loud, and at one point he wandered the restaurant shaking an instrument like a surprise party crasher. It was more awkward than festive. Unfortunately, we weren't the only ones who felt this way. Nearby tables looked visibly uncomfortable, and we watched a tense moment where the drummer inserted himself into a group's photo and had to be asked (twice) to move. We say this as longtime fans of the place -- if that same performer is part of the brunch experience again, we'll likely sit it out. The vibe just didn't match the quality we've come to expect, especially for the price point. Here's hoping next time we're back, it's without the surprise percussion solos. read more

The Barley House is a local staple in this area. You can't go wrong coming here. Great atmosphere, great ambiance, and friendly staff. They have a full bar with 30 beers on tap. The views here are simply breathtaking. I'm looking forward to sitting outside in the summer. The spiced hot chocolate was strong but enjoyable on a hot day. I had the Shor rib grilled cheese, which was an experience with every bite. It was hot, the rib was tender, cheesy to perfection, and the tomato soup provided the best dipping sauce. My girlfriend had the Wicked Tuna, which was generously portioned and spicy with the Wasabi. To top it off we had the brownie sundae. It was hot, gooey, and rich. Came here for my birthday and it was such a beautiful view. I had the steak and fries and my boyfriend had the lobster roll and neither of them disappointed. We came in the fall so it was a bit chilly but I imagine it's the perfect place to grab lunch in the summer. Rye Beach is literally across so you have a great view with your food and can walk on the boardwalk to burn off the calories right after. The service was also really good. read more

Today for lunch we dined at this restaurant and had a fantastic experience. The service was excellent, and the food was amazing. Our group of eleven enjoyed a variety of dishes, including steak sandwiches, sushi, salmon, and salad. Every dish was well-prepared and delicious. My girlfriends and I went for lunch yesterday. I want to start by saying that the views are amazing, but the experience was far from it. We sat at a table and it took forever for the waiter to come by and ask this for drinks. I can't blame the waiter because there wasn't enough wait staff for the amount of people that were there eating. No sign of a manager walking around making sure everything was OK. All young kids doing their best to serve all the people that were there. One of my friends ordered scrambled eggs, it arrived at the table in a small dessert plate. The deco was festive and the staff was friendly. - We ordered the short rib melt with a hot toddy hot chocolate and the wicked tuna sandwich with the wasabi on the side. The short rib grilled cheese was an experience! The bread was buttered and slightly toasted, the meat was perfectly seasoned and the sandwich was served with a small serving of tomato bisque. Absolutely horrible experience! The staff was incompetent, and every dish for our party of four was wrong. The manager was brought over, wanting us to explain again why it was all wrong, and she blamed us for the mix-up. My Partner got lobster rolls & we were not expecting it to be $75 for two lobsters rolls considering average price are $30. However it brought a decent amount of lobster. I ate at the Barley Beach House for lunch today and it was great! This was my second time here and my experience both times were pretty similar. First, the view is amazing! I love being able to sit outside and look at the beach. The drinks are always good! The first time I went I had a regular mojito, today I had the Sunshine Froze and it was very good. The food is pretty tasty as well. I had the chicken Caesar wrap and my friend had the lobster roll. We both enjoyed our meals. I totally forgot to take pictures of them as we were enjoying the view and the conversation so much! The service, as others mention, is slow. However, if you are looking for a relaxing, non-rushed meal, with a great view, this place is perfect I'll definitely be back with my friend! It's become our favorite place to meet up. read more

Came back here for a second time on the Fourth of July holiday for lunch. We had a great table on the patio overlooking the beach. We decided to try the frozen margarita xl. I liked it, it could use a little less agave, but overall I enjoyed it. We then ordered the wicked tuna sandwich, and the fish and chips. Both entrees were excellent. The wicked tuna sandwich is a full tuna steak with avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato and this really good wasabi mayonnaise. It can get a little messy, but it's worth the extra napkins. The fish & chips was cooked well, the charred lemon slice was a nice touch and fries were tasty. I didn't try the coleslaw but it comes with that as well. My friend and I went out for an end of the summer dinner and it took about an hour for a burger and steak sandwich to arrive. When we approached the waiter he became embarrassingly rude to us in front of other patrons. We called upon management who was helpful but never received an apology by the waiter. Overall I think this deserves 3.5/5 stars. Service was a 3/5 but you can tell there were only a few waiters/waitresses. And food was 4/5. They're probably understaffed and with covid a lot of places are understaffed so I get it. The food was pretty good though and the overall ambiance was great. Brussel sprouts: would recommend. I liked the combo with feta cranberries and walnuts and balsamic glaze Clam pizza: this was my least favorite. I actually didn't enjoy it. The bacon was overpowering, probably to over-compensate for not enough clams. And the cheese was confusing. It was liquid-y and they easily could've just stuck to one type of cheese...and less of it The Cali turkey burger was good and I liked that their homemade fries aren't super dark and oily. The wicked tuna was probably my favorite. The aioli wasn't too strong and the tuna steak was cooked perfectly. The eggplant meatballs were decent.
