Stephanie created a really special workout, and her beginner's option is tough! This is not to be confused with the bar method or mat pilates. The beginner class is also difficult in a way that will signal to your body that it is capable of more. Her sense of humor and dramatic playlist make the hour-long class enjoyable. Every person in the room is usually grunting and oiy'ing with the slight adjustments that she makes to help maximize our workout. I have taken class the day after Thanksgiving and also on random weekends. The small class size makes each session feel like a personal training opportunity. The Barboza Method makes me re-think my posture and movements in everyday life, especially as I am mostly sitting at a desk during work hours. Oh, the violations to our bodies when we are constantly on devices and crouched forward! (Insert crying emoji here.) I am excited to re-train mine so that I can age better over time. Another observation is that the class is challenging even for the seasoned fitness fanatic so don't think you'll breeze on by, even if you do megaformer/solidcore or crossfit/F45 frequently. Some of the clients have legit hard bodies next to my softer and noodle-ly self, yet they're sweating in solidarity and you can tell it's not easy for anyone. The studio culture is non-judgemental so I feel like a rockstar afterwards (in a OMG-I-didn't-die way) even though I still look like a donut. Try it at least once so that you can open your eyes to a unique treatment for your muscles and alignment. It's both torturous and nourishing, and different from anything you can find at other studios or at standard gyms. You can find Stephanie on ClassPass or pay for individual classes or packs. The credits or $ are worth it. Some logistics: Parking is via meter or side-streets. Watch the signs. One of my classmates said there is also free valet during some evenings but I haven't tried this option. The studio has storage cubbies but they're not locked, so I recommend leaving your valuables in the car. Seriously, you won't need your phone anyway. Barboza Method is right next to the restaurant Horses, and you have to walk down a short alley into the adjacent backyard to access the door. It's not creepy. If you are early to class, take your time walking toward the studio. There is something about the discovery, a-la Great Expectations, and that soundtrack song by Mono rings in my head. This daydream is truly short-lived because you'll need all your concentration for class. read more

One of my favorite & hardest classes in town. I love coming to this class because Stephanie doesn't let anyone off the hook. I've had a lot of dance/ballet teachers in my life and she's among the best of the best. Class size is small also so there nowhere to hide She will challenge you to know your own strength constantly! I work out other places just so I can be strong and flexible enough for Barboza! read more

The Barboza Method - Pilates Near Me - Los Angeles, California

After having had a major abdominal surgery I walked into class feeling weak, scared and insecure. I was greeted by thee Stephanie Barboza herself and took my first class with the equally amazing Sarah. So kind and down to earth as they not only push you for your best, but encourage and support. Immediately my feelings of new post surgery body changed from the first class. I was astonished that I was actually able to notice a massive increase in strength from just a couple days. My core has so much more strength and I noticed my body shape start to change so fast (not even 4 days:). I thought my butt was nice before and when I looked at it sitting higher I knew I struck workout gold, stomach is flatter and more toned plus I have increased posture and energy, not to mention focus! I also love that there is no impact and yet you can feel your muscles working. It's a lovely, active class and the people in the class share that same energy. They push each other and support, encourage and exhale deeply right along with you lol. You aren't alone in changing your mind and body. I cannot wait to get back to class! read more

Stefanie has a contagious energy and is very welcoming, she is a giver and an educator at her core. Had a wonderful experience visiting her at her studio. Looking forward to going back soon! read more

Not only does the owner Stefanie know her stuff, but she is a natural teacher, friend, and makes everyone feel like they belong, even if it is hard as heck. All of the classes are amazing and I have zero bad things to say. From the environment that she fosters with her spotless studio, feng shui decor, and peaceful ambience to her instruction methods, and the results she produces. When I first started going, I knew it would be great but I didn't know I would be addicted. As a fitness instructor myself of over a decade, my standards for fitness and dance instructors are very high, and The Barboza Method exceeds that. Even if you have zero dance experience at all, start with beginners, and you won't be disappointed at all. So thankful for this business. read more

I attended this Sound Bath Pranic Healing by Natalie Skyy and I can elaborate enough about it. After years of self-Discovery this Sound Bath & Pranic Healing Class was the most INTENSE and healing thing I have felt in a long time! The self-care after is vital, as she said the next few days we would be releasing and I have woken up feeling different. People were in tears, relaxed, some felt physically sick after, and some peaceful afterwards. She gave out aftercare instructions and some Palo Santo used for cleansing negative energy and spirits. It's also used for illness. This Sound Bath heals trauma stored in the body, illness, cleanses chakras, and many other things. It was a 90 min session of high-pitched mixing bowls, harp, voice, and other things she did. She works also one on one as your laying down. The sound is at 432 Hertz, which is said to be the frequency that made plants flourish inside greenhouses. SHES AMAZING! It's a must do if you need healing...www.natalieskyy.com I'll be coming to all her sound baths! read more

I cannot say enough nice things about the super-genius ass-kicking teacher-owner awesome inspiration who is Stephanie. I was born in Los Angeles California and have tried all the boutique and general exercise classes this city has to offer and I can say with complete confidence if you want results this is your place. The classes and the unique Barboza method itself is very difficult, but do not be discouraged because it is difficult for novices and experts alike and what it demands from you physically and mentally you will reap in physical alignment and muscle strength and general well-being. (After class I almost immediately walk straighter and genuinely feel stronger). Stephanie's method is incredibly important because anyone can do it even if they are injured or feel age is a factor or feel they are 'too out of shape' to even begin. Don't give up attend multiple classes because even after a few you WILL feel a major difference. read more

Stephanie will give you THE MOST AMAZING workout class ever!!! She is the Queen of fitness!!! Can't believe she invented this amazing routine! You will be soooo toned if you keep on doing the classes!! Even once a week. I've done 4 classes in 2 weeks - not only my body feels very different (more toned, ) I am so much more aware of my posture and now I know how to tone my body when I'm not working out. Knowledge is power, Stephanie has more knowledge about how to tone your body better than any personal trainers I've had in the past (and I've had a lot). She is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! 10 out of 10!!! Love how I can pay a monthly subscription and go to unlimited classes!! I'm gonna have the best body for summer!! thank you Stephanie xx read more

I just took a class with Stephanie and am speechless, no words can explain how helpful and how beneficial this class and this studio will be for my physical well-being. As someone with hip displaysia and other physical issues, Stephanie knew exactly how to use my body to help course correct the issue so I can avoid surgery. I've taken countless class at countless studios and I've never had such a knowledgeable and caring instructor. She even stayed after class with me to teach me better ways to walk and sit at work. This experience was a blessing. On top of all of that ... it was one of the hardest workouts I've ever had. I've been doing lagree Pilates for several years and thought nothing could compare but this class blew me away. I was working muscles I never knew existed. read more

I discovered this dance studio via ClassPass. I was immediately hooked. I have been dancing my entire life and I have some injuries and balance issues as a result of wear and tear and overuse. I find this class to be both fun and like dance rehab for injured dancers. Stephanie, the owner, is amazing! All the teachers are wonderful! read more

This is what happens when you haven't taken a ballet class in forever with a very hands-on instructor: you remember that when done correctly, ballet is fucking hard. Class: Beginners ballet. And yes, unlike other ballet classes in LA that claim to be for beginners, the level is actually beginner. Parking: Street parking. It's West LA, so plan accordingly. Pretty much followed the standard ballet class structure (but note that it is only 1hr). The teacher gave a lot of personal corrections with detailed technical instruction. After elongating this, sinking that, pushing this way and that, turning out here, and lifting this, I was done. This was solid dance class w/ a good instructor. read more

I am a personal trainer and this is by far the best workout I have done in years. I have done all types of strength training, TRX training, boot camps and this one tops them all. This is a method that lengthens and tones your whole body using non-impact movements and the whole workout is done on the floor. It's the first workout that I have done and felt a burst of energy afterwards. My posture has changed dramatically and my muscles are now longer and leaner. Thank you Stefanie Barboza you are an awesome trainer and you make class so much fun! read more

Searching to increase your energy? You find it here. These classes infuses energy big time! Stefani is one of a kind trainer by working on individual needs and strength. She patiently corrects every move during exercises in order to do it right and not to get hurt. She spends time after the class to fix posture. She really cares about her students which I didn't find in any other exercise class. read more

I found The Barboza Method through classpass as was intrigued by her statement about form and alignment, plus how positive all the reviews were, claiming it was one of the hardest classes they'd ever been to. I sit at a desk all day and my posture has suffered to the point of injury, so I'm always looking for workout classes that will relate to my body's specific weakness and help it heal - not cause further injury. Stefani's class is amazing this way, she is constantly adjusting your position - and it isn't always delicate, but it always feels like she's showing me what my body's potential is, even if I'm not yet strong enough to hold it on my own. I recommend starting with her beginners class, it's just as challenging as the regular class but slower, to learn the technique. I'm also doing personal training sessions with her to fix my bunk shoulder with training and massage and she has been amazing. If you like pilates, barre, dance, and yoga, I cannot recommend this studio highly enough. Your body will thank you. read more

I discovered this studio through class pass. It was by far my favorite studio I went to, and I'm abandoning class pass for it. The workout I get here is the best I've ever gotten, and the attention to form is amazing. I've only been twice so far and my posture is already changing for the better. You will work butt muscles you didn't know you had. Both my classes were with Stefanie, and she's the perfect combination of fun and task master. read more

Owner is friendly and humorous. Class always fun even though work out is tough. Work out so tough I feel like I've lost weight after every class. Option of "walking" after class. Teacher can teach you how to do various runway walks. Always enjoyable. read more

This is the BEST workout I've ever done. I don't have a dance background but have been sporadically active and thought this would be interesting to try. I will say this is one of the most challenging classes I have ever taken and in 5 classes in already seeing results. Stefanie gives everyone one on one attention during the class, correcting your form, engaging your core, reminding you of posture and helping when needed. I'm throughly impressed and look forward to going to class. UPDATED 4/2018: I'm 5 months into to this class, down 30lbs and a pant size smaller!! GO SIGN UP FOR THIS FITNESS CLASS!! read more

I'm surprised there aren't more reviews on here. I've only been to this class once but I'll definitely go again. The class is very different to other barre/pilates type classes and it was a really good workout for your core. A great combination of mat work with ballet positions. Stefanie was very knowledgeable and gave lots of helpful corrections. Don't be fooled - laying down does not equal an easy workout! read more

Stefanie offered to give me a month unlimited, I came to her class at the recommendation of a friend who was a big fan of her small personalized studio. I explained that I am not likely to return past that month because of my schedule. She offered to set up a month of unlimited classes and set up my account while I was there for my first class, I signed hesitantly!!!!! But she setup an auto-pay and I was unaware she continued to charge me, racking up 1000 bucks!!! Now she refuses to refund, claims it's on me-- I only went twice to the class which ended up costing me 450 /per class. For a small business owner who can make the right choices It is sad and unethical that she will not refund my money. read more

The hardest exercise class I have taken and you don't leave your mat. How is that possible? The Barboza Method is unlike any other workout I've done. Trust me, I've done nearly everything (Callanetics, Reebok slide, hula hooping, ariel yoga). The workout is non-impact and done mostly on your back, but that doesn't make it easy! Stefanie makes you feel muscles you never knew existed. There's an emphasis on form that has immediate results. You really feel taller and stronger after class! That is, once feeling returns. The studio also offers an intense, yet amazing Stretch class, as well as open-level ballet. Stefanie connects with all her clients, accommodating for injuries as well as on a personal level. All the staff is wonderful! read more

I have been working with Stefanie privately and in her classes for over a year and feel so much relief in my body due to her strengthening and stretching exercises. I no longer feel the need for massage for the tightness in my lower back. I receive compliments on my posture and comments that I have lost weight (due to the toning effects of her exercises). She continually increasing the difficulty of her work both by correcting my positioning and by bringing in new and more difficult exercises. She is fun and inspiring and I look forward to her classes. She knows how to push us appropriately helping us achieve more and more each class while making sure protect ourselves from injury. I feel so lucky that I have been working with her and that I have a gentle but intense exercise that allows me to protect my body while changing it for the good. read more

Stephanie's Barboza Method is a class above all other exercise systems and methods. The Barboza Method is the best strengthening, body shaping workout I have ever done. For me, it's also a physical therapy, fixing long standing injuries that chiropractors and orthopedic doctors couldn't solve. Stephanie knows the body inside out. I am so grateful for what I've received from her instruction and what I continue to receive. My body keeps getting stronger and more capable. I am dancing again and my fitness level makes me feel 16, happy for no reason and full of energy. read more

Stefanie Barboza is a genius, a healer, generous and tough. I had no idea when I took a class on Class Pass how amazing her classes could be and I intend to take as many as possible. I didn't know that a class that begins on the floor could be so rigorous and after taking just two classes, with her adjustments, I am more aware of my posture. Stefanie is like a drill sergeant but she really pushes every student to her (and occasionally, his) limit and one is forced to get each muscle to "work" so all the barre/pilates/other classes one has taken that seem harder really aren't if those muscles aren't working. She is a walking example of her own method. And her hands-on technique is amazing - she sees "lines," she says, and goes right in there to push, pull, encourage each student to one's personal best. The best of the best!!! (Elle/Lizzie) read more

Phenomenal work out. Stefanie has created something that everyone can do to improve their all over health. Glad I found this gem.

I am a 68 year old woman, born with a partial disc in my lower spine and it is essential I keep my core strong to prevent it from slipping. I have always tried to stay fit, but my back slipped October 2011, resulting in sciatica. Since July 2012, I have attended 3 Pilate classes per week, a water aerobics class, and walk 2 to 3 miles daily. BUT something was missing. I often felt stiff, tired, some lower back pain. I started working with Stefani Barboza July 2014 one on one. The Barboza Method has made an enormous difference especially in my flexibility. But more importantly, Stefani pointed out I was not doing some of the Pilate core exercises correctly which caused discomfort and set me back. My posture is one of my biggest challenges, but that too is slowly improving. AND it is fun. Yes, it is challenging work, but I can see and feel the results which makes a big difference in my mental and physical well being. read more
