So fun! I took a beginner salsa class with Rodrigo who was a fun, nice, and approachable teacher. We learned basic steps for the first 20-25 mins of class, and then rotated partners for the remainder of class. I thought the class was a good pace and easy enough to follow (although, I've taken beginner salsa at another place before so I had some experience). It was my boyfriend's first time learning salsa and he thought the class was fun but I little too fast, so took off a star for that. Also, the class felt a little big. read more

Classes are filmed for promotional purposes. I didn't read the fine print so I was uncomfortable when I did the into class and had a lady with her iPhone pointing at me I moved to the back corner but it's impossible to see or hear and the videoing doesn't stop. In general it's a nice location. There is ample parking. The Wednesday evening salsa class beginning salsa is for absolute beginners as well as more advanced so only half the class is for absolute beginners and the rest is for experienced folk. The class I attended was full - you will be bumping into people. Class also started late as people were squeezing in and checking in. It ends up being just under a half hour. If you're not comfortable with a phone pointed at you being filmed, your option is to stand in the back by the door - you won't be able to see or understand anything. read more

I attended a Musicality class yesterday, held at 3rd Street Dance. As a dancer who has been in several studios over the last 12 years, I have to say, I was impressed with the studio. Its a little older, but kept up well. I didn't get to interact with the staff very much, but the one girl I did speak to briefly was very nice. The floors were CLEAN! This is a huge deal for me...dancing barefoot on dirty floors is just gross, and I can honestly say that my feet were not dirty at all when I left yesterday. I'd recommend this studio to anyone, at least for workshop purposes. Its big, spacious, clean, and has a great staff. read more

I came here for the Banging body Bootcamp as if was advertised as a workout/ dance class and it was a straight up choreographed fast moving dance class. This is great if you advertise it that way but if you are doing hard to follow dance moves back to back at a fast pace, you have to understand that it for people who have not studied dance. This is not a work out class. It's a choreographed dance class. I will not come back and actually left during class. Teacher was JJ Dancer. Only come to class if you are an advanced dancer. Also please note that class was so packed that the girl next to me kept running into me. Honestly I prefer the Playground dance studio that I went to yesterday. Took a six-week east coast swing class. The class was much smaller than I expected...usually six or less students each week. For the students, it was great because it was like having semi-private lessons. We learned a lot in just six weeks because the class was so small. They have several studios and several classes going on at simultaneously. If you want dance lessons, they can totally hook you up with about any kind of dance you want to learn. Parking is a bit of a hassle. If you have a 7pm class, you can wait until the clock strikes 7pm and you'll snag a free parking place right in front. If not, you're better off parking a couple blocks away at the Beverly Center for $2. read more

I had so much fun here! I came here for a dancebody class and we did plenty of sweating in there. The staff was so friendly and now I want to take more classes here. Another great thing is that there is parking in the back. The lot is not that big so be prepared. I love that the studio is on an upper level. It's almost a New York style type of studio. I like the feeling of dancing above the ground here. Class prices are reasonable and it grieves you a chance to learn something and let loose. 3rd Street Dance is one of dozens of dance studios in the Southland. Located a few blocks from Beverly Hills, it's readily recognizable from the early seasons of "Dancing With The Stars". For that reason and also for its dance style offerings, I decided to try it out. I was surprised that the studio was much smaller than what I saw on DWTS. Ah, that explains why they have no social nights: not enough room. Area parking stinks anyway. But then I remember what Super Bowl coach Tony Dungy wrote: He had been an assistant coach with the Steelers during their glory years, and they won four Super Bowls with only a half-court field to practice on. It's the quality of training that counts. And it's the quality of training you get at a dance studio that counts, regardless of the size of the floor or if you get Mark Ballas as an instructor. From what I read, Leslie Ferreira's Tuesday night bachata class was high quality indeed. So I got there - almost an hour early. Thankfully, the office staff understood, so they signed me into the right class. They prefer cash. As students came in, some for the 7:00 salsa class and some for the 8:00 bachata class, it was clear that 3rd Street has a loyal clientele; these students have known each other, and danced with each other, for a long time. Finally, Leslie came in, and off we go. It was as high-powered as I'd read, and she is an effective instructor. She gives pointers about what to look out for, leading techniques, and lots of encouragement. The class moves fast, so it's not great for raw beginners. The students are there to learn and have fun, and I detected very little snobbishness. If Leslie Ferreira's class is an example of other classes at 3rd Street Dance, then I think this is a very good place for you to learn to dance, and I recommend that you check them out. read more

Love this place! I have always been super uncoordinated and embarrassed to dance "for real" in front of people. Well, I decided that was going to change. Since last September I've been going fairly regularly to the beginning salsa class - usually taught by Kelly, who is awesome - and just the past two weeks graduated myself to Salsa 1.5. The jump is significant. But this week I went to both - Salsa 1 taught by Kelly and 1.5 by Oscar - and was pretty amazed at how simple and easy 1 seemed to me. So I must be getting better! My confidence has improved 10-fold as a dancer and I'm excited to see my improvement in footwork and coordination. If you're ready to do something daring and fun, this is the place to go! The studio itself is fine, but what makes your dance lessons pleasant is the instructor. For that reason alone, I am giving this place 1 star...or if I can give it negative stars, I would. My gripe with this place was our PMSing dance instructor. I think her name was Anjela or something like that. My husband and I went in to prepare for our first dance on our wedding day. After that one lesson, I decided to never go back. I'm not sure if it was the company's inflated ego that had an effect on her attitude (I think someone mentioned half a dozen times that they film some crap there), or if she was just an unpleasant person to begin with. I caught her rolling her eyes when we messed up on a few steps. I also LOVED it when she tossed my husband and me around like ragdolls. Oh yeah, IDEAL learning environment. I'm sure if I complained I could have been stuck with a nicer instructor, but I decided that it wasn't worth it. As a beginner, I wanted to find a studio that wasn't overly crowded, felt inviting and welcoming and offered classes for beginners so I could really learn foundational dance moves and not feel totally lost while doing so. 3rd street to me feels so perfect in every way. Nights after work, I would gather with the intro students and learn basic salsa steps. It was a lot of fun and I have to admit, I was a clumsy dancer. In the partner dance, I may have punched a few guys in the face accidentally, when I twirled and lunged my hand out in the close dance steps. I may have stepped on a few toes too, but atleast I learned to count... and count good I did. I had a patient dance instructor, who taught me the importance of rhythm and tempo, and because of him, I became an expert at keeping a beat. I paid $12 a lesson, which I'm sure is now probably $15 a lesson. But the package deals 3rd Street offers are good. But if you buy 6 dance lessons, you save something like $10-15. The owners of this dance studio are all class. I wish I could say the same for this one advanced salsa student. You know who you are, grandma?! That blond, old bitch who danced like a giraffe in the dryer spin cycle -- you ain't all that! Don't think you're special or better than the newbies. She would never say hi to me of speak to me when I engaged her in conversation. She was so rude. Evil, Grandma!!! Phew! I got that off my chest! I feel better. I digress! Okay, I can't dance. Well actually that's not true - I can really really dance - it just seems that when I do my girlfriend gets embarrassed and others on the dance floor look at me like "is that guy being silly intentionally?)"...no, I'm not. So anyway the GF wanted to take Tango lesson (Argentine) and I kinda wanted to as well because I have romantic visions of being able to whip out the right dance in any given social situation. We signed up for the beginning Argentine Tango class here and it's a very reasonable price - $85 for 8 weeks (once a week for an hour). The dance studio is great - they teach lots of other dances - my Tango instructor is really nice with a great attitude (Vlad) - and even though I wanted to quit after the first 10 minutes of the first class (because I was like "oh shit, I will never get these steps down"), by the end of the class I had learned the steps and was really enjoying myself. You can sign up with or without a partner, and be prepared that even with a partner they will have you rotating around to others throughout the class (though the GF and I have boycotted this practice and dance exclusively with each other). Really we have a blast here - the hour goes by in the blink of an eye and it's something we look forward to every week. The instructors are great and we will certainly be signing up for more classes when our 8 weeks are up. Oh and don't worry if you think you're really going to suck - the beginner class really is full of beginners - in all age ranges and everyone is really cool when you mess up (and everyone messes up). People there are just having fun and no one is super serious or has attitude. Also a lot of people go there alone so don't let that stop you - in fact it's kinda cool to do it that way because you will get to dance with so many different people which can really help you find your style. So far, I've taken a couple of salsa bootcamps here as well as a Salsa 1.5 class, and I had a great time at all of them! My friend and I wanted to learn to dance salsa, so I took him to the bootcamps with me, which was great. You do rotate partners a little in the Bootcamp classes, but mostly, I danced with my friend, which made me feel more comfortable. After the 2 bootcamps, 3 nights together at salsa clubs and a few practice sessions with YouTube videos, I got VERY brave and jumped into the 1.5 Salsa class, all alone. I was a nervous wreck about going alone, but seriously, it's totally fine. There were about 25 people in the class, and you start out with one partner for like the first 5 minutes, then you end with the same person for the last 5 minutes.... the rest of the time, you rotate partners so that everyone dances with everyone else. Honestly, I'm glad I came alone, because I would have felt bad about how little time I would have actually spent dancing with my dedicated partner! I may have been just a wee bit premature jumping into Salsa 1.5 before taking the beginner classes, but I have a dance background..... and honestly, it's easier for the ladies, since you just have to follow (and the men at the 1.5 class were better at leading than men at a true beginner level). As long as you know the basic salsa steps, how to turn right and left, and the cross body lead, and you have some sense of how to dance in general, you'll totally be able to wing it in the 1.5 class! Also, it was better exercise than I expected it to be! Leslie kept us moving and the tempo got pretty fast by the end of class! I was a sweaty mess by the time class was over!!! I'm now looking forward to trying out some swing, ballroom and bachata classes! read more

This review is specifically for the Sunday class with JJ. Pros - JJ is very nice and this is 100% a workout. Music and location are good. Cons - The room was unbearably hot. I was the third person to leave and half of the class spent their time at the doorway to get some air. The mirrors were fogged up so you couldn't see yourself. There was no acknowledgement from JJ about this so I can only assume it is like this every time. Either way, when half of your class is about to pass out I would think the a/c would have been turned on. A fan. Something! I am all for getting a sweat, but not like this. It made me less productive. If I wanted a sauna I would have done hot yoga. And although not difficult to catch up, there is no learning steps beforehand, you just kind of start and it seemed like a good amount of the class had been there before. (Except those of us dying of heat stroke) read more

Location is the primary reason for my 3-star review. I took a Zumba class and loved it! The instructor had a smile on her face throughout and made it such a great experience! This review is for the school, salsa/bachata classes and instructors. 3rd Street Dance School has been serving LA Area for over 30 years, often you can see famous dancers from the Dancing with the Stars like Val, Mark and Keo. They have parking in the back and large parking lot a block away. Dance floor is very clean and in great shape. All instructors are absolutely incredible with knowledge, love and desire to teach and make sure that you understand, accomplish and feel great. Leslie, Kelly, Oscar and Armando are amazing teachers with the unique techniques and specialties. They are able to help you to become an outstanding follower or leader or both. This place smells like a dance studio. It has a lot of character (is older, but well maintained) and is obviously used. You can literally smell the passion (sweat) permeating out of the Marley floor. It inspires any dancer and repulses everyone else. :) I've only taken Salsa I classes here with my boy, but the good thing about these "beginner" classes is that the instructors break it down appropriately and keep things interesting and challenging. I'll keep this updated as I progress through the classes. Just like most businesses in the area, parking's a biotch. We needed somebody to choreograph a wedding dance for us on short notice, leaving us just two private lessons to look good (ideally enviable) in front of our guests. While my fiance is able handle salsa and tango with style and ease, I move with the grace of a Roomba. Vladi was able to choreograph a dance that transitioned from a slow Al Green song to 45 seconds of Tango. He is one of the best teachers of anything, ever. He gave my fiance the minimal instruction she needed, and then was able to vary his teaching style for me by breaking steps into engineering terms, relating to moves from video games, and using very short sentences. Thanks to Third Street Dance and Vladi our wedding dance went off without anybody getting hurt, and we left with great memories to show for it. read more

I credit Larisa at Third Street Dance for helping my conquer my fear in life -- Dancing! Dancing is something I've always wanted to be able to do, but having little to no natural rhythm of my own, I barely feel comfortable shaking my booty at the club, much less twirling around a dance floor for any occasion. In fact, in six years of dating my boyfriend, we have never danced together before....until now. For my birthday recently, I decided to ask for dance classes. My boyfriend reluctantly obliged, being a punk rock guitar player who swears he'd rather play music than dance to it. Nonetheless, we signed up for a 6-week series of Swing classes at Third Street Dance, which is in my neighborhood and is one of the few dance studios I could find online that even offer Swing. I was nervous at first, but from the moment our instructor, Larisa, stepped into the room, she had us steppin' and swingin' in what felt like a completely natural progression. Each class is an hour long, but the time flies by! Larissa has you switch partners throughout the class, which makes you a much better dancer because it helped me learn how to adjust to dancing with other people besides my boyfriend and keeps you from developing bad habits with your partner. Many people were there as a couple, but there were also quite a few who came on their own, so don't be scared to venture out by yourself! The girl-to-guy ratio usually worked out quite well. If you did come with a partner -- no worries! -- at the end class you get to end up dancing with the person you came with. They also have an open practice session you can attend for free later that night without all the pressure of going to a club. Our last class ended last night, and by the end of it, we had a pretty solid set of moves that we can show off anytime! Our 6-week session cost $85 per person, which breaks down to about $14 per class -- totally reasonable compared to other studios I looked at. Honestly, I didn't have any problems with the parking and location, especially if you live in the Hollywood area like I do. The studio is easy to find and near some great restaurants and entertainment if you want to enjoy yourself afterward. Parking is only $2 if you park at the Beverly Center, which is only about a block East of Third Street Dance on Beverly and La Cienega -- very reasonable for Hollywood. My boyfriend and I both ended up having so much fun, we will definitely be continuing our dance classes at Third Street. In fact, we are already making plans to try out our new moves at a club this weekend! read more

If you're looking for a studio with instructors that will take the time to "break it down" or offer you bootcamps or workshops or monthly dance socials or private lessons or even a great dance community for friends; this place has it all! My boyfriend and I signed up for four beginner Argentine tango class. We had the Russian instructor (sorry, I don't remember his name). The beginner class focused on social tango dancing. The goal was to learn how to be able to dance the tango in social setting, as oppose to learning moves for show. In addition to the main instructor who worked with the men, there was also a female instructor who worked with the women and taught us how to "follow" the man's lead, the key in dancing the tango. This was very, very difficult. And something for the ladies: in this dance, it's really a lot better when you have a good partner. The instructors were pretty good but class was always packed. It was hard to see the instructors when they were teaching the steps, even when men and women are split into the two groups. I don't know if they have a limit on the number of students per class but they really should. If they do, they need to decrease the number because it affects the experience. After the first two classes, I wasn't really enthused to go back because it was just too crowded. In addition to the lesson, they offer a practical half an hour after the class where you can practice the steps. The practical is $10 but free to students enrolled in that evening's class. I highly recommend doing this because this is when you can polish your steps and start experiencing tango. It is a drop-in so there will be other (and better) people present who were not necessarily in the class. Going to the practical makes the experience a lot better. One caveat is that even if you attend with a partner -- a guy-- you will have to share him. We had to rotate partners, which I didn't really appreciate at first. After all, my boyfriend and I signed up for the class so that we can learn and do something together. I didn't really get to dance with him in the first class until we went to the practical. At the second class, we rebelled and didn't switch with others. By the end of the class when we realized that we were pissing each other off-- trying to "teach" the other, giving wrong instructions, etc.-- we realized there was great value in switching partners. It lessened the stress and frustration. A lot. It will make the drive home a lot more pleasant. There is plenty of parking in nearby garages but allot 5 minutes for the walk, as it is located on a busy street. They also offer validated valet parking. read more

This place is great! I've been coming here for about 7 years and Vladi's Tuesday night Tango Practica is my favorite time of the week to go out dancing. The studio has several different rooms of varying sizes that can accommodate different sized classes and styles of dance. The atmosphere here is always warm and inviting, partly due to the great aesthetics and cleanliness of the space, and partly due to the wonderful staff. Sammy is usually in the office when I arrive and always greets me with a smile. She. Is. Awesome! Parking here is rarely a problem, but if the lot is full, I usually find parking on the adjacent street. I never have to park more than 50 feet from the parking lot entrance and don't mind the walk--the neighborhood feels safe and I can expend the calories--after all, I come here to dance! This is a great dance studio! There are many practice rooms and different styles of dance available. The staff is friendly and the class packages are reasonably priced. I've taken all levels of SALSA and BACHATA with Leslie Ferreria. She is an AMAZING instructor, choreographer, and professional dancer! TIP: I have never come to a class with a set partner, but instead continue to make new dance friends every time I go. Every once in a while I'll bring a friend - but the point is that no one should be shy about showing up solo. PARKING TIP: Street parking can be tricky, but there are a few spaces on 3rd Street and more on San Vicente. The restaurant valet charges $3 if all else fails. Don't risk getting a ticket in the residential permit areas. read more

So far I have taken Swing I (at least 1/6 classes) and Ballroom I (1/6 classes) with my soon to be husband. He is a beginner and I have taken plenty of dance classes (ballet, lyrical, jazz, hip hop, tap, ect.) in my younger years. Together we make a partnership of someone who is suppose to lead who is taking his first two dance classes and someone who is suppose to follow, who well, would rather lead. I'm looking forward to finishing the class series and us both being able to dance together at our wedding. We will probably take private lessons later to refine our skills. The only criticism I have is the class size for the Ballroom I was too crowded. It made it difficult to find room in the mirror or be able to see the instructor. Perhaps they should limit the number in a single class... I've really enjoyed our time at the studio and even decided to take Zumba classes which are a great workout and a lot of fun. If you have never taken a Zumba class you may be intimidated because a lot of the class members have taken it before and can pick up the routine faster, just be persistent and go into the class to have fun and you will be a pro soon. 3rd Street dance does offer a special deal if you buy private lessons and group classes together. The atmosphere is great. They have 5 studios, each differ in size. Everyone is relaxed and friendly. Now if only they offered ballet, lyrical, jazz, and hip hop... (They do have one ballet class from the Align Ballet Method on Fridays. We had a good experience until I had an ER visit and had to cancel the morning of our lesson which was 8 hours later. They were NOT flexible in changing our class to a later date- I had several medical documentation to show, which they were very rude, and dismissive. They did not care to see it. I got on the phone with the owner who was upsettingly also dismissive and said she was still charging us for the private class and was unwilling to give us a credit for it for another day. My wedding was 10 days later- she was very insensitive to my ER visit. 3rd Street dance also had my CC on file without my consent (I booked online several classes through their website) and they then charged my CC for another class with out telling me- i never told them i wanted to go ahead and book another class. This act was not professional or trustworthy. read more

This is a great place to learn your first dance. My husband and I decided to do the wedding package, that included ballroom group classes followed by private lessons. I highly recommend taking group classes first to work on techniques, leading (guy), and following (ladies). The ballroom group classes helped bc it introduced us to the different styles of partner dancing and that's how we decided on the Foxtrot.
