Tried Lagree underground today. Worst workout I've ever tried in LA. Mikael the proprietor is very inflexible. He won't allow walk ins or last minute signups. You MUST make an account online before your first class. You cannot sign up friends. You cannot walk in late to class. You cannot move your spot in the class. He assigns you wherever he likes it seems. Also there is no phone number for the studio and emails are returned to sender. I had never taken Lagree before, so the machine is quite foreign to me. He pointed at colored zones and wiggled handles. He said absolutely no modifying body positions. When the class started I was clearly struggling. His proprietary grip socks don't account for being on your toes so I slid off the machine. He didn't offer help or any guidance. Just told me to leave. Long story short avoid Mikael. Avoid Lagree underground unless you are already familiar with the gear the movements and the class unless you prefer a hostile trainer and no guidance. Long story long; I signed up well in advance of the class and wanted to bring a friend so I used a class pass to reserve a 2nd seat after his online system wouldn't allow me to log out or make her an account, emails were sent back undeliverable and there is no listed phone number. The morning of the class Mikael messages me from his private cell, and his first contact is to tell me he is cancelling the 2nd seat for the class. I ask him please not to and that we will happily pay additional fees and work it out when we arrive. He says no. Make a new account or no class. I tell him fine but this seems hostile and try AGAIN to make my friend an account which isn't possible btw. You cannot make a new account from a laptop only a phone and one account per phone. After much back and forth he sets up the account. I thought it was all a misunderstanding and try to move forward. We show up early to the class. Sign the waivers, buy socks and water (he kept my cc on file btw) he gives the most cursory gesturing explanation of the machines says the class 'moves fast' and is nothing like Pilates. Sets us up on machines in different rows on opposite sides of the room and walks away. The class starts and I am clearly struggling with the number/color ambiguous movement descriptions. He offers no help. After only 5 minutes I get off the machine and go to talk to my friend who is also struggling and also not getting help. Then suddenly he cares. I tell him I'm scared of falling off the machine and need some help and guidance. He says no. He says he can refund me but I can't move to the machine near my friend and can't sit in the room. I must go to the front waiting area or leave. I've taken tons of different classes in LA and all over the globe. I love trying out new classes and testing new ways to enhance my fitness. This was not a remotely positive experience for me. I go to classes for guidance and oversight. I go to share the experience with friends, learn new moves, and have the camaraderie and energy of others all working towards their own goals. This was independent, hostile and frankly embarrassing. read more

I had an extremely upsetting and unprofessional experience with Mikael Padilla, the owner and head coach at Lagree Underground. I attended a class during my birthday weekend with friends and was kicked out -- not for being late or disruptive, but because I was wearing a tennis/golf skirt with built-in shorts. Mikael claimed it was "too short," despite other women in class wearing similar-length clothing. I felt unfairly targeted. When I calmly said I would leave a review on ClassPass, he became aggressive and confrontational, saying he would stalk me on social media and "harass" me. He even said I couldn't leave a review because I "missed the class," which is simply not true -- I was removed by him. He later responded to my Google review claiming he had videos of my shorts and invited people to come watch the footage -- then deleted his reply after realizing how inappropriate that sounded. This kind of behavior -- policing women's outfits, threatening retaliation, referencing surveillance footage -- is not just unprofessional, it's deeply inappropriate and makes clients feel unsafe. I've reported the incident to ClassPass. I wouldn't recommend this studio to anyone who values respectful treatment, accountability, or basic professionalism. read more

The best Lagree studio! I've been going to LU for a year and it's the best workout I have ever done. The trainers are all knowledgeable, effective and welcoming. When I found Lagree Underground I was so weak. I had multiple injuries from running and a lot of pain. Within 3 months of regular classes, my hip pain went away and I could run again. After a year, my glute med. strength has improved so much and I'm no longer leading with my hip flexors. I highly recommend this studio if you are looking for a hard, effective Lagree session. read more

I've been to a few lagree studios before but this by far is something else. Minor muscles in my body hurt that I never knew could hurt. I took the full body shake and my entire body SHOOK. It was so hard. I am a runner and the movements we do here made me realize how weak my legs are. I was drenched in sweat and there was little to no downtime during this class. You really come here to WORK. Time well spent and worth every second. One of the best lagree workouts I've ever had! Parking is a bit hard to find but there is residential parking a street away before 6pm I believe. read more

First timer to Pilates and to this specific studio. It was really nice and clean. All the machines were practically brand new and the studio is small enough where it doesn't feel intimidating, but big enough where you have your own space. I took Noelle, and she was incredible. She was so patient with me (I did absolutely horrible, barely mirroring any of the stances/positions), yet she never gave up on me! She was constantly giving me pointers and readjusting me. I think trying any workout class for the first time is overwhelming and intimidating, but she really made me feel at ease. I almost don't want to recommend this place because I feel like I found a hidden gem, and in LA hidden gems usually get flooded before long, but Lagree Undwrground deserves my 5 star rating. My philosophy is if you're going to work out for an hour you might as well get the most out of it as possible. I had been to a few different Pilates and Lagree classes before this, but one time here told me this is where I'd get the most out of my time. The class is incredibly challenging, but worthwhile. I've only taken class with Mikael and Noelle, and both were top-notch. I mostly try to go to Mikael's classes just because I like the teaching style. I have only ever experienced support and kindness from him, and I came in very unsure of what to do and felt floored after my first workout. I've been to maybe 25 workouts now at this studio and I'm confident in leaving this place an excellent review. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience. I was excited to try this Pilates studio, but unfortunately, it did not meet expectations on any front. The workout itself was underwhelming -- not nearly as challenging or effective as other studios I've tried, like Studio MDR. If you're looking for a solid, results-driven session, this isn't the place. The interior felt very run-down, the equipment was outdated and didn't feel well-maintained, which is surprising given how important that is in a Pilates setting. You can really tell the difference when you've been to more professionally run spaces. What really sealed the deal for me, though, was how the business owner treated me. I told him it was not a customer-focused policy to charge someone a no-show fee at the minute class starts and there should be a grace period. When I voiced concerns, he got very upset and said thats how he wants to run his business, placing the customer secondary I would not recommend this studio if you're serious about your Pilates practice or value a quality environment with attentive service. read more

I have been going to Lagree Underground for 3 going on 4 years. The workout is amazing and Mikael creates a safe space for me as a woman, the WeHo community and everyone in the studio. The minute I walk into the studio to take a class with Mikael I immediately feel safer because I know he cares about everyone in the class and would protect us from any craziness that may come in the front door. I have rehabilitated my shoulder after a car accident and my Achilles tendon after a full tear at Lagree Underground and Mikael, along with all of the other instructors, made great efforts to modify any moves based on my injuries and watched my form to make sure I was safe and hitting the key areas of whatever exercise we were doing at the moment. This studio welcomes all and is the best workout. I would absolutely recommend this studio and Mikael as an instructor if you're looking for a full body transformation in a safe space where you are looked after and encouraged to do your best. read more

I had never done Pilates or heard of Lagree, but I stumbled upon this studio near my home. This HIT class has made so much positive impact on my body and my sleep. I started with once every two weeks, and now am going 4 to 5 times a week. I have been doing this as my primary form of exercise. My core strength is so noticeably better, and I have improved physical stamina for normal day to day things. The instructors offer in class correction, and it's a really positive vibe. it's rarely repetitive and definitely never boring. I highly recommend it to anyone who is ready to take their fitness journey to a new level. read more

Tip to newbies: I encourage people who have never done class to seriously get there on time. I'm a founding member, and honestly if I had a nickel for every time I see an inexperienced person come in and not know what they're doing...anyway, this place is amazing and the instructor will make sure to check for proper form. Do not be discouraged after your first class. Consistency is key, and you will definitely make progress from there. Also, Wednesday evenings parking can be a bit more challenging. LU is my go to Lagree studio! I go to so many Pilates and Lagree studios in LA but underground has my heart! When I first started my Lagree journey I was incredibly overwhelmed with all the information and difficult workouts yet I felt so incredibly welcomed and was taught properly here. If you aren't serious about your workout then this is not the place for you...all the trainers ensure that your form is correct and teach you everything you need to know to get the most out of your workout! Mikael, Jona and Noelle are incredible trainers and have been so patient with me for the past two years! Not only did I get stronger at Lagree underground I also created a community that I love! Signed up for the BOGO deal and couldn't make it to my first appt so I canceled the night before. They took that class away which I understood but in their cancellation email said I would be charged $15. What? When I followed up via email, the owner Mikael Padilla, emailed me back saying my email was nasty and that I personally attacked him. It was quite long and the grammar/formatting was really bad. He continued to get aggressive after a couple of correspondences. I do think the policy needs to be clearer in the email but I guess they don't believe in punctuation. Needless to say I won't be frequenting this gym but there are plenty of other lagree gyms in La that are more professional. I'm sure the instructors are great and the class itself is fine but what a terrible representation of the company. read more

As you all can tell, majority of these "negative reviews" are people coming late to class. Make it make sense. Coming late to your first class where the instructor will personally show you how to utilize the machine...doesn't matter how many "pilates" classes you have gone to, this isn't pilates. If this is your first time you HAVE to come in 15 mins early. You can't start the class without being introduced to using the megaformer, it's just not safe & the instructors don't have time to show you once the class starts. Otherwise, it's easy to follow instructions and you get a hang of the flow and using the megaformer in no time. Youll be sweating, shaking everywhere the entire time. It does the body good. I had the pleasure of having unlimited classes here for two months. Before finding this studio, I took a few classes at another famous Lagree studio in West Hollywood, but I never really felt like I learned the actual method in those classes. I felt like I was just following along and looking at everyone else to do the moves. After a few classes here, I finally felt like I was learning the actual science and reasoning behind Lagree. Every single instructor that teaches here (Mikael, Noelle, Stephanie, Jinny etc) cares about each student, fixes their form, and most importantly challenges you with the movements. I don't understand why there are people complaining about things like, "you can't be late to a class or that you have to sign up beforehand" - this is a workout class, this is not showing up to a movie or walking into a lunch spot. It's not that hard to come early and sign up, especially when they have an app. Every studio has its policies, this is not a surprise. I would have continued my unlimited pass here, but my husband and I moved to Newport Beach recently. I am trying different studios around here, but none of them compare to Lagree Underground and the instructors so far. Mikael was nothing but helpful, attentive, and made each single class worth it for his students. Anyone who says the classes are too difficult should find another studio - what is the point of coming to a workout if it's going to be easy? read more

Wow!!! I've been doing lagree off and on for over 10 years and I have to been to at least 7 different studios and I have to say the class I took today at 7:15 was the best ever. The instructor is a Master instructor who travels to teach when needed and he really pays attention to your form and corrects your placement a lot throughout the class. Literally I have been doing so many moves incorrectly and had no idea lol. It was the hardest but best for my body class ever. I love this place! read more

I LOVE LAGREE UNDERGROUND. A regular here for years and it is the only megaformer studio in LA that gives you a complete body workout and leaves you feeling as strong as when you consistently lift weights. I've trialed many other studios and nothing compares. Mikael (the owner) is fabulous, he is knowledgeable about the science behind the workout and ensures you are not developing bad form that would set you up for injuries by providing hands on adjustments. If you want to know what the studio is really like, go look at the "not recommended reviews" - the owner flags the negative reviews, so has an inflated rating. I imagine this one will also get flagged by him. i had a bad experience here through Classpass, and left a fair review, saying the studio was OK, but the instructor needed to be more knowledgable on form, and less aggressive to her students. I booked another class to try another instructor, but when I got there, I was told my reservation had been cancelled, and the owner essentially verbally assaulted me for leaving a critical, but honest, review, and told me I am not welcome at the studio because I left an accurate review, in hopes of saving (or at least preparing) others from the experience I had. owner is frankly pathetic and clearly has some issues going on making him like this. AVOID AVOID AVOID. There're so many better studios nearby, you'd be better off going to any of those tbh. Lagree Underground has totally changed my relationship with fitness! I've never been able to stick to a workout consistently until Lagree Underground. It really is the instructors and classes here that make it so worth the while and actually has me excited to go work out. Having tried other megaformer studios and other types of workouts, I truly believe Mikael and his team are the best of the best. Here you'll get truly individual attention to your form and how you can grow your strength on your own timeline. When I did my first class, I was sweating bullets on the first 'warm up' movement and pushed myself hard to get through the course. You can really focus on and identify the muscles you are working in these small, slow movements and it is apparently very quickly the difference between good form and bad form. Despite me needing to take multiple pauses throughout workouts, the teachers are super supportive about everyone working on their own pace and how you can adjust the moves so you can continue to build a strong foundation. My first week, I was struggling to do a push up. Week 2, I honestly felt the happiest I ever have in my life. The energy and positivity you get from this class is infectious! Week 3, I finally felt like I was getting the hang of certain moves -- and you really can measure how much stronger and better you are getting EVERY class. After a month, I can do more pushups than ever in my entire life, and I was even finally able to do a couple bear moves which felt impossible in the beginning. My body feels tighter, and I can't wait to see how much further I can go! The music is energizing. Every day the workout is different, Mikael programs it so you're working out something different each time. I would give yourself an extra 5-10 minutes to find parking just in case. I have always found spots in the neighborhood parking across the street by Norton, but be wary of street cleaning on Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings. Every trainer I have worked with at the studio is fantastic! Particularly love Noelle as she is SO kind, attentive, and really really positive and supportive. Would highly recommend beginners start a class with her or with the owner Mikael whose eagle eyes will ensure you're getting the best form possible. Plus everyone in class is so sweet and really loves the class and want to push themselves. As someone who has struggled with their fitness journey, Lagree really feels like a new safe haven for me to grow into my best self! If you sweat like crazy like me, I would recommend getting grippy gloves in addition to your grippy socks AND bringing a towel for the machine as sometimes my knees can sweat so hard they slip a little. An excellent Lagree studio in West Hollywood. Noelle and Mikael are outstanding trainers. A lot of the clients are advanced and don't need help. But the trainers still walk around and remind everyone of proper form, offer modifications, demonstrate on a megaformer, and make sure everyone gets it. You know: training. So if you're looking for a pretty location and a cheerleader to call out exercises and not care, go to Carrie's. I've taken this method for 14 years, taught it for 5, and have been to most of the Lagree and similar studios in LA (and all over the country). Hands down, Lagree Underground is the best of the best. Mikael is a star - he and his team actually take the time to do hands-on form corrections, which, as a former trainer, I cannot understate the importance of. I've watched countless lagree instructors at other studios watch as their clients workout in horrific form and cringe knowing the kind of injuries that will result. You won't find that happening at LU. Mikael is a hawk when it comes to form and it's clear he's trained his staff to be the same. Despite having done this workout for most of my adult life, Mikael and the team continuously push me to find ways to make it more challenging! Musics fun, vibe is fun, team is A+ and its so good that despite living near more lagree studios than I can count, I drive my ass 30 minutes each way 3x a week to get my fix. I started my Lagree journey two years ago when I went to a class at The Studio MDR. Their classes are a mix of Pilates and lagree, and were pretty good! Then I moved from SM to Weho and found an ACTUAL lagree studio called Lagree Underground. The classes were a lot more challenging & rewarding! This studio introduced me to what Lagree actually is, it helped me lose fat and build muscle pretty quick. These classes are pure strength training and well worth the money.
