I have been taking private pilate instructions for over 15 years at Whole Body. Each of my instructors have been professional and knowledgeable about classical pilates and how best to apply the principles to what I need. I have been working with Melissa who is fabulous and so positive. I am amazed at all the exercises in her knowledge base to help whatever I need that day. Although I am sure she is great with all ages, her expertise is older adults. I am 84 with arthritis in my knees and Melissa has worked with me to strengthen my legs to take the pressure off my knees. Added to that is strength training for the whole body. From the first time I walked in during a stroll in my very own neighborhood, I was looked at as if I was there to rob the place. Finally 1 gal greeted me and tried to quickly get rid of me quickly by referring me to Daria. The other instructor that was there (no class happening at the time - no clients present) stood back and just glared at me from a distance. Still, I didn't want to allow that to keep me from possibly benefiting from the studio so conveniently located near my home. I phoned Daria and she was lovely and generous with her time. I explained to her that I'm very new to this and nervous. She recommended that I work with Mimi for some private sessions. So I purchase the new client deal of 3 private + 3 classes. Mimi was nice and knowledgeable, but she talks so much. I feel like much time was her talking in my first 2 sessions. At the end of the second session she discouraged me from participating in a class. If there is a concern about my ability to safely participate, wouldn't it be better to cut the chit chat and ramp up on the training? Also, are the classes so large (or instructors so not prepared) that they are unable to teach, correct, etc.? That was several months ago and I returned this morning for my the final private session in my package and same thing: talk talk taking and at the end of the sesh she basically told me that her beginner class is actually more intermediate and that I should not go to it and instead go to Jordan's class because it's more of a social hour "ladies in the neighborhood get together in Jordan's class...it's really more social...you should attend that one, it's in the evenings". Why is this studio so intent on wasting my time and money? This thick brown woman will not be returning. 3 classes still on the books - any takers? Oh wait, they're not transferrable...and sure, I can go...but for social hour(?). read more

Came on a Saturday over the lunch hour for a beginner pilates class taught by Liam (supposedly he is a sub for this specific time). The class started out on the floor doing some moves; then we moved onto the reformers. The class size was smallish, maybe 8 of us total, and in addition to Liam there was another lady helping put everyone into proper position. I found the class a little easy, but I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow anyway! The studio itself is nice - free cold water and hot tea; towels; lockers with built in locks (keys on lanyards). The one strange part is that the class takes place while other people are having 1-1 sessions / working out in the space. It's not too distracting, but it's not as focused as having everyone in one enclosed room doing the same moves. Parking was easy to find -- meters galore or if you drive down the side streets you can park for free. read more

I truly enjoyed this hour spent, and with my recent lower back problems, after this one class, seemed to help immensely! If I lived in the area, I would have absolutely signed up for more classes! Loved my beginners class with Jordan! So much so, I was back in the studio a day later. Upon arriving, Nigel was at the front and greeted myself and my roommate, and checked us in quickly. Lockers were easy to access, loved the zen ambiance. We were nervous about the class but Jordan put us both at ease. Here's the lowdown: Been taking classes here every day for almost 5 months. I've always had back pain issues: my back feels strong now. Pain down about 80%. Sleep Apnea. I've got it. Pilates focuses on internal organs including lungs. I can breathe in more and my apnea is slowly disappearing. I work from home. I've become the equivalent of a home-schooled kid, forgetting how to socialize like a normal person, so it's nice to go somewhere every day where the people are friendly and have your best interests at heart. I have been going to whole Body Method for about 6 months. The people are nice and the studio is serious about its workouts. I have only attended group classes. They are well organized and very core muscle oriented. If you want a good work out on the pilates reformer, I would not recommend this studio. They break up the workout with changing the apparatus a lot during the work out. You do alot of matt work. But its a good work out for me. I keep coming back. read more

I learned about WBM via a livingsocial deal. I have never used the reformer for Pilates before so I was excited to try it out. I called and made the reservation over the phone and talked to a very nice gentleman about my voucher and he set me up in the online system with no issues. I was able to go online and book my classes. I arrived for my first class and immediately it felt very cozy and inviting. The space is intimate and has about 8 reformers and a place to put your stuff and change if you need to. My instructor, Anthony, immediately greeted me and was already getting someone else set up on the reformer. The class was very easy to follow and Anthony was very good instructor, explaining all the different moves and techniques. The class flew by! I would recommend this Pilates studio for the avid Pilates or the beginners. They were also teaching instructor classes. On a personal note, I don't think this type of pilates is for me! But thanks to WBM it's not because of bad instruction. It's just not for me! read more

I loved my private lessons at this place. Post-covid, I needed something to get me motivated to get back in shape and this place was perfect. I had never done Pilates before, other than some mat classes at a gym back where I used to live. So I was a total novice, but Eleni whipped me into shape! Over the last six months or so, we've had weekly one-on-one training and I've seen my whole body change. My core is so much stronger, my flexibility has really improved, and my posture is better. Eleni is hyper-aware of her clients' bodies and very sensitive to what's going on with you. She's really good about checking in with me and watching my posture and position. At the same time, she also pushes me to go beyond my comfort zone which I love. Thanks to her I've been able to do moves in Pilates I never thought I could! (Like the dismount!) To me, it's important to have an instructor I trust to take me to the edge of what's possible and motivate me to push myself. Eleni does that superbly. I love their philosophy and vibe, too. The studio feels so relaxed and welcoming, but it's also a place where I can go to really dig deep and do hard, challenging work. The studio is beautiful and clean, and the trainers are all very professional and knowledgeable. Everyone who works there goes through an extensive certification program before they're allowed to teach, so you can be sure you're in good hands. Before coming here, I was a total pilates newbie and was really intimidated by it because I heard it was a lot harder than yoga. It's now 3 years later and I can't imagine my life without pilates. It's the only type of class that makes me feel more energized and happy than when I came in. I take private lessons with Antony every week. He always keeps things challenging and fun (except when he makes me do press ups...). Really enjoying Pilates at this studio! Small class sizes, plenty of personal instruction, and they went out of their way to correct a bad initial experience that was totally not even their fault -- I was nervous to try Pilates for the first time and went with a friend, but we got our schedules crossed and ended up at different classes, with me arriving an hour earlier than my friend. The studio graciously allowed me to take the class my friend showed up to AND the one I showed up to an hour early, for the price of one class. Sadly my favorite instructor, Afton, is no longer teaching at WBM :( If I can find out where she's gone I'll follow her, but if not, I am sure I'll find another great instructor in this very friendly studio! I have been going to Whole Body Method for around 7 years, it's been so long I'm unsure if this is my first review. After my class with Michelle B. today I feel compelled to leave another. First WBM teaches classical Pilates - if you're looking for a Pilates workout on steroids, this is not for you. However, don't be mislead- it's quite a work out. It is the only form of exercise aside from swimming that has helped my chronic lower back pain. It's about focus, and truly- mind body connection. I am happy they have survived Covid and are slowly opening up again after offering fantastic virtual classes to keep your body and mind in shape when not on the sofa eating in front of the TV. That being said, they have an excellent certification program so there is a large turnover of new instructors freshly out of school. (They are the best- they want to do a good job and recently educated, they do it right). Which leads me into doing Pilates correctly. It is really important to have an instructor who keeps an eye on you and ensures you are not hurting yourself. When twisting into a pretzel it's important that your neck isn't doing the same thing. When I started as a beginner at WBM, there was an instructor named Chrissy- Leigh who made me love Pilates- she was witty, sharp as a tack, always had an eye on your form and above all the best Pilates instructor at WBM. When she left I felt bereft. Enter Michelle B. 2021- the new Chrissy Leigh, a previous dancer as well, she is totally on top of it. Attentive, funny, enthusiastic, she will push you to your limit and back (I love a challenge). Most importantly: today I walked out of there with an endorphin high from an incredible workout + I felt like I had just left the chiropractor. My neck no longer hurts and now I know what I've been doing wrong for a long time. I highly recommend her classes and I'll wager her private sessions are even better. This is a good spot, very Zen- classical wood reformers Cadillac's Wunda chairs (they really are), a brick and wood industrial space with a fountain, art by Daria and warmth- no clinical steel here. Nigel and Daria are also lovely, if you are lucky enough to have a class with Nigel, don't say I didn't warn you. Ask him nicely and he'll trot out his model spine and name every bone, muscle and tendon in your body. Did I mention that I am a 50 year old woman with the body of a 40 year old?! This place is great. The teachers are very nice and very knowledgable. My favorite teacher there is Annette. I think runs the teacher training program or otherwise seems to be one of the most knowledgable. I took some of her classes for awhile and then when I had a series of intense surgeries over 9 months I came to her to recover and she put me back together and built me stronger than ever. She knows the traditional Pilates but also works in something called TRX for when you want something much more intense. I always felt safe and like she knew what my body needed. She is also used to be a dancer like me so she can even challenge me with sequences and form. Only drawback to the studio, no air-conditioning, but they know it and they are working on it and it only matters in Summer. read more

Great place! I tried Sweat Pilates in Culver City but to me that was for very advanced, in shape people. Whole Body Method has a classical approach with all levels of classes which is great for me. I started off with beginners pilates and they focus on technique and breathing which is what pilates is all about IMHO. The instructors are patient and sure know their stuff! Nigel and Daria, the owners, are very down to earth people, but beware, if Nigel steps in to teach your beginners class you are going to sweat your butt off! He seems to know the level of every single student that goes there and makes sure you are challenged. This place is totally awesome and I'd recommend it anytime for anyone! My back pain is totally gone since going here - started about 3 months ago. They also do privates and you sometimes get to work on those cosmic "cadillac" reformer machines. read more

I almost hate to say how great this place is so it won't get crowded. The instructors are wonderful, the classes friendly and challenging. The energy is more like a mom and pop yoga studio than the more intense style of most Pilates studios. I take Annette's classes regularly and just love them. Also like Jovanna and Felicia. And of course Nigel- the studio owner- is the best instructor I've ever had. Hand down. I also highly highly recommend their cleanse. I am one of those people that loves to eat and was steadily gaining weight. Two months ago I didn't think it was possible to wake and feel normal, without any pain, but it is. I started taking lesson with Michelle at Whole Body Method and will continue to do so. Michelle is the best. Her instructions are precise and clear. She is great at encouraging you to challenge yourself and taken your body to the next level. I haven't taken a class session at Whole Body Method but plan on doing so when I feel more accustom to the pilate equipments. The studio is intimate and friendly. This place is the best. I started Pilates here last summer after a Living Social deal and I've been hooked ever since. I've struggled in the past to find a workout routine I can get into; but the variety of classes and the times of the classes here are engaging and convenient. The instructors are wonderful - Nigel, Tanya, Felicia, Jovanna, Annette (are just a few of the instructors i've had). They're very attentive to my needs and existing injuries, always offering modifications to positions. WBM instructors are kind, patient and encouraging. They keep their workouts challenging and varied, yet always in-tune with my body and skill level. The owners, Nigel and Daria, are engaged in the studio and committed to making their students feel super comfortable. I've participated twice now in their weight loss program, which has been great. i've had serious results in toning my body, gaining strength and feeling fit. WBM has a line of nutritionals included in the program, so it's a complete plan focused on, well, whole body wellness! I've been going to Whole Body Method for two years now. I cannot believe I have not written a review for them. They are wonderful. I first came here in 2010 because I was having core and foot issues. Two major surgeries in 4 years had been hard on my core. It was difficult for me to stand up and then even to stand for longer than 15 miutes without pain. And with my falling arches and torn tendon on my foot, I was a mess. I noticed the difference a month in working with Annette. Today, moving around is alot easier for me. My core is so much stronger, even if I don't work out as much as I should. My feet and arches are not a problem at all. read more
