I chose this studio intentionally while dealing with health issues and purchased an unlimited membership. At first, the staff were friendly, and I met some genuinely kind people. Unfortunately, one employee, Mason, repeatedly spoke to me in a way I found rude and unprofessional during class, publicly "correcting" me despite my using modifications that other instructors had explicitly approved due to health reasons. To avoid further issues, I stopped taking his classes. Outside of class, I asked Mason a simple question about baked goods he sells at the studio, and he ignored me entirely--looking away and not responding. After that interaction, the environment noticeably shifted. Staff who had previously been friendly stopped acknowledging basic greetings, avoided eye contact, and treated me differently than other clients. Sophie also participated in this behavior. I was only attempting basic politeness and engagement related to the practice. The behavior felt deliberate and exclusionary, not incidental. For example, when I reached 300 classes at this studio, no one asked me to sign the barre--despite that milestone being clearly tracked in the system. I had signed at 100 classes previously and went on to complete 50 more classes after reaching 300, yet it was never acknowledged. I was consistently polite and respectful. The change in treatment was noticeable and unexplained. I stayed longer than I should have because I needed consistency while ill, but the passive-aggressive exclusion continued. As an unambiguous Black woman in a predominantly white space, this experience felt like microaggressive ostracization rather than a misunderstanding. I contacted ownership when I left, but no meaningful action was taken. I'm sharing my experience so others don't encounter this kind of treatment during a vulnerable time in their lives. read more

Great workout and excellent instructors overall. Mackie, Mason and Kat are fun, have good music and kind with their guidance. The community is very supportive and respectful. I enjoy these classes because it's my time to focus only on myself and I can be quiet and reflect. The 6:45 express classes are a great way to start your day and the noon express is usually full, but has great energy. I have been attending Bar Method classes since 2018 - it is one of my favorite ways to work my body - all the instructors are very knowledgeable and able to give modifications if you have an injury. It is hard work but fun - you will work your whole body by turns - there is an emphasis on good posture/technique and working the muscles to get a long lean dancer look, not bulky. There is a lovely community of people. Mostly women but a man will show up occasionally! It is upstairs in a little mini mall with Michael's and Marshall's - very dangerous from a shopping perspective but great for parking. Anyone who has ever enjoyed a ballet class or worked with a trainer with closed-chain/body resistance will love it- although props are used to challenge the body more - if you're not sure- try a class and see how you feel....but. I must warn you - you may fall in love with the studio, the workout and the results you will see, and feel, in your body!!! Come on down and give it a go.... read more

I've been doing Bar Method for 16+ years. It is an amazing overall workout, both physically and mentally. It's really up to you how hard you want to make it. If you pay close attention and follow the detailed instructions - get into the right form and make small movements allowing the muscles to contract vs. using momentum - you will improve your strength and overall tone. The tiniest movements make the biggest difference....and you will shake, shake, shake while doing it. Over the years, the practice has added new techniques and class formats. You can do a 60 min regular class, 45 min Express, Strength (which incorporates weights throughout), Cardio and also Bar Express + Restore with Therapy Balls. The teachers are all incredible and it's a great community of people of all ages, sizes and levels of fitness. I always leave class feeling strong, challenged, mentally restored and invigorated. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Bar Method Studio City! Every single instructor I have taken is so welcoming, kind, and accommodating to any limitations or restrictions you might have. They always encourage taking challenge options while also offering modifications for those who can't do certain moves. Every teacher makes sure to correct your form to protect your body and avoid injuries. They make these very challenging classes really fun and energetic and always play great music that helps you get into the workout. I love the results I get from these low-impact yet difficult classes. I feel myself getting stronger every class and the encouragement from the community helps me keep going. There are tons of class styles, different class times throughout the day, and the studio is always really clean and organized. There is free parking (which is hard to find in LA) and a secure locker room too. I have never stuck with an exercise or studio for as long as I've been with Bar Method Studio City and have no plans to leave any time soon. I have tried every type of exercise class there is and have found nothing better than The Bar Method in Studio City. I'm sure they are all great but the teachers at this particular location are absolutely amazing and supportive and challenging. They have the best attitudes. Always smiling and so nice. They make you know you can go further than you think you can. In the past month, my body is already changing and my muscles are forming. I am so much stronger than I've ever been. As a 53 year old woman that says a lot. Women (and even a few men!) of all ages come to class. We are all supportive of one another. I've never felt uncomfortable being there. We all talk to each other and it's become a community feeling where I can let everything else go and just be me. It's clean, it smells good and it's really welcoming. The cost is amazing for what you get and they always have new client promotions. I highly recommend these classes. I go every day because I always feel much better after my workout. Try it. I took a Bar Method Express class on Monday at noon and Katie was our instructor. She took some time at the start of class to get to know the newbies and tried really hard to get our names down. Our class had about 23 women in there and I still felt Katie's care and attentiveness throughout class. Even from across the room, she'd speak into the mic about what to adjust and if you're doing a great job! Some people may not like being called out in class, but I really appreciated it! She'd come to adjust your form, too. It was my first Bar Method class and I'll definitely be back! The studio itself was organized, clean, and overall great - a lobby, key lockers, a shower, vanity areas, and some essentials (brushes, dry shampoo, hair dryer). Towel service is a huge perk for me! I disliked going to gym partially because of the environment and the fact that I didn't have the support and I really wasn't seeing any significant results. Bar Method Studio City is so welcoming, nurturing of all fitness levels and you actually see results -- the muscles and peach emoji are the real deal! Bar Method has actually transformed my body into one that I am proud of every single day! Most importantly though, Bar Method Studio City is filled with laughter, love, and an awesome group of instructors who create a beautiful community. I love walking in the doors of the studio, saying "Hi!" to everyone and knowing that I am in a safe, supportive space surrounded by people who genuinely care. All the instructors are amazing and each bring their own personality to every class: Alysia is pure sunshine, she is super sweet and makes you WORK; Kat is witty and makes class go by so quickly; you feed off quirky Erin's energy; Allison has this awesome, crafty way of pushing you to the next level every single time; Ayla brings the "kick butt" energy to every class; Katie brings the oomph to your workout making you come out sweating with a smile; Erin C is sweet and thoughtful and very knowledgeable; Jenna is so warm and encouraging; and Erica is kind and spunky. I recently injured my knee fairly badly and was told to give my usual HIIT workouts a break. Desperate to keep up some sort of fitness/workout I headed to The Bar Method. I was welcomed by the staff at The Bar Method, talked through how the class worked and the teachers are all very patient and happy to help correct any form or offer an alternative if you can't complete the exercise. They have a deal of $99 for unlimited classes for your first month which I've now signed up for. I recommend doing a few of the basic Method Mixed classes before attempting their Express class so you can nail the moves. I've already noticed some small tightening in parts of my legs etc from the classes and I'm excited to continue. read more

Let me start by saying I've been going to Bar Method on and off for 5-6 years. I think the workout is incredible and live it when my lower body really needs that extra kick in the ass. However this time was a different experience. I just got into my second trimester... this is one of first mornings I'm feeling good (no nausea, morning sickness, etc). I haven't been able to workout which killed me so I decided I'd head to The Bar Method in Studio City. I was so excited! I'm an avid CorePower yogi but my dr. doesn't like the heat so barre it is... anyway two things happened: 1. I got there and said I haven't been in awhile due to being pregnant but I've been doing barre for about 5-6 years on and off. The teacher asks if I have a doctors note (I've never needed a note to workout while pregnant, that's what waivers are for). I let that drop and they let me workout AFTER I explained I worked out through my whole first pregnancy and workout on the reg. 2. We're in abs and I've been modifying pretty much all the abs (all 13 minutes of them). Knowing 13 minutes of crunches is unnecessary for me I decide to do crab pushups. The teacher comes over and goes "If you can't modify abs you'll have to leave, it's distracting." I WAS PISSED! It's not like I was doing jumping jacks while they were doing crunches, I was in a similar position. I will NOT be returning to The Bar Method. Shoutout to the mamas trying to stay heathy and fit during pregnancy but do t go here! read more

I have been here a half dozen times and I really enjoy every workout. I really like coming here before work because it is a good toning workout without breaking a sweat like a reformer based pilates workout. This means I can come here, workout and be at work nearby in less than 1.5 hours total. That means I can sleep in later. Sleep is good. Pilates are good. It's a good combo. Despite the fact that bar method style pilates doesn't make you sweat, the large locker room and bathroom are fully stocked. I did use the shower once since I went to spin class right before the pilates class so I actually was a bit gross by the end. The shower was spacious and great for a quick shower. I felt weird showering though because no one else knew it was my second fitness class of the day so it seemed like I was just too lazy to shower at home before class. Haha. Be prepared to have your name called out in class. Not in a bad way but the instructors make a point of learning people's names before class so they can call out your name and either correct your posture or give you credit for doing well. It's usually the latter and is just a method of encouragement at this location. It isn't my favorite aspect of the class because I like to just show up, do my thing and then slink away like I was never there. I don't want people to know my name. Fitness classes are for getting fit not being social, IMO. I will continue going here whenever I have a ClassPass membership. read more

Fun class! This is my second time trying barre and it's a good workout. There is plenty of floorspace for the workout, clean locker room with showers and bathrooms. The instructor is really helpful and will walk you through each routine. They have mats and balls as props. They also have glass mirrors to look at so you can check to see your posture. They will also call you out by name if you're doing things right or if you need to correct your posture. I love the pacing of the workouts and the music is great. It's a good way to workout your core, thighs and abs. And there's plenty of free parking in the plaza. I'll be coming back! read more

I've been taking classes here for a couple years now so this review is long overdue. I've taken almost all versions of this workout, and the Bar Method is by far my favorite. All of the instructors at this location are amazing each in their own way, and the studio set up is great. I try to take at least three classes a week, and am continually being challenged and seeing improvements in my balance, flexibility, strength and appearance. read more

I really enjoy coming here. I am a pilates and gyrotonic enthusiast. Hence to say form is very important to me. I am very specific about coming to these types of establishments because the teachers tend to teach generic cueing. However, this is not the case here. All the teachers are super kind and correct form is incredibly important here. They give options to modify and make certain to give corrections when needed. I feel cared for when I take class here. Some things I wish I had known before I started doing any Barre-style workouts: They are not all built equal! Bar Method Studio City may be a little more expensive per-class than other studios with billboards around town, but they give you more bang for your buck. In my experience, Bar Method classes are best if you do them multiple times a week. If you're new to the style of exercise, I recommend taking at least 10 classes over the course of few weeks to really get a taste for it. One class is too few to really "get it", I think. The Bar Method Studio City difference is a couple of things: -- ALL are actually welcome.-- You absolutely do not have to be 23 and rail-thin to do these classes, nor do you even have to be able to touch your toes. Alysia and Kat and their Instructors will help you get to your best fitness and help you achieve the best workout FOR YOU. I think because the clientele here is so varied (in age, shape, size), everyone is just encouraging and positive! -- They encourage you to do what YOU can do.-- No question, they'll push you to finish what you started. But I never feel pressure to go beyond what is safe for my body. I have been hurt at other bar studios pushing me to work at the level of the instructor and not where I was comfortable. They will encourage and offer suggestions to challenge yourself, but if you're not feeling it that day, that's okay too! -- It's about FORM.-- Other barre-style classes have instructors that seem like their on auto-pilot, or are just reciting taped routines for a live class and they rarely correct anyone's form. We can't all be doing this right? Right? Kay/Alysia/Caroline and the other instructors are AWAKE and watching your every move. They'll shout out AND USE YOUR NAME if you need to square your hips, or tuck more, or relax your shoulders. This can be intimidating and weird for people not used to it. For me, if I hear someone else being corrected on their tuck or posture, you know I'm checking my own as well. It helps everyone. Your safest workout is your best workout. -- You are not invisible here.-- They absolutely will remember you. They may forget your name once or twice, but they won't forget YOU. They're not afraid of asking you "Remind me your name again?". After a 6 month Bar Method absence, I sheepishly walked back into the studio for a morning class trying to hide my eyes, ashamed for having been away for so long. Alysia remembered my face (if not my name, I mean I don't blame them if they forget my name they should have a gazillion clients now!) and welcomed me back, without question. Thank you Alysia! Extras/Amenities that Make THIS Studio AMAZING: - Towels! Free of charge. (You know you're going to need one, you'll break a sweat!) - Water (Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!) - Gorgeous Lockerroom / Lockers - Cubbies too (if you're a class-n-dash type) - Multiple Changing spaces/bathroom stalls (You will never be stuck if you have to pee and someone's changing...phew!) Men, no worries, there's a separate bathroom/locker set for you too. - The Bars are really BOLTED to the wall (No need to worry that you'll fall if you and 10 friends are in Chair position!) - Instructors wear headsets, and you can actually hear them over the music. - PARKING! OMG! ALL THE PARKINGGGGG! Even between Thanksgiving and Christmas there was available parking. - Coffee Bar! Tea! Water with Lemon! Regular Water too! Alysia's classes are intense! She's an "Evil" Barre Genius (Meant in the best possible way). You can tell she studies up on what she's going to teach and really loves challenging people to do their best work. Kat's classes are hard too (this is still Bar Method), but you'll get more ab work in from the extra laughing. Kat is straight up goofy and giddy in her classes, and I love it. These two ladies work SO HARD. They're in the studio day and night and morning. I haven't been to a 6:30a class where either of them looked tired or where I was waiting for someone to open the joint. The TL;DR version - Kat and Alysia have a beautiful studio that has everything you could think of and things you didn't think of. The classes are tough and individually challenging, all are welcome, you won't be invisible and it's all about form. read more

I'm writing this review after my second visit to the Bar Method and I have to say that I hate Courtney right now. Like a lot. Not because she's a terrible instructor but because she has the most amazing techniques to sculpt a beautiful behind and I'm in SO MUCH PAIN. But.... Like the GOOD PAIN. I'm a former ballerina/gymnast/dancer who's completely out of shape and about as fit as a potato. I live on the west side now but drive all the way to studio city just to come here. Yes you read that correctly. I drive up the 405 JUST to work out. Well also to visit my family but mostly JUST to work out HERE. So that's twice in one month now lol. No but really the instructors and staff here are super sweet and nice and GOOD. They correct your form so you really feel every muscle working.... Or like I was yesterday... Couldn't feel anything at all after my workout lol. (But definitely hurt in muscles that I never knew existed today). Shoutout to Courtney though. She practices what she preaches (I swear her behind is so beautifully sculpted it looks fake but it's not) and she's hilarious. Definitely recommend for all! Beginner and advanced! read more

I love this place!!! I have never been a fitness buff, but I love Bar Method! This is a super intense workout. You will feel it the next day (and the day after that...)!! It works every muscle group, even the ones you'd forgotten you had. I am still just a beginner, but feel very welcomed nonetheless. The instructors are warm and encouraging (I love Caroline's classes!!), offering gentle corrections when needed. Even the other class members are supportive and so nice; I feel like it is truly a judgment-free zone. Every class is slightly different so you never get bored. Kat and Alysia are so friendly, always greeting me by name when I walk in. The facilities are new and beautiful; they even have all the toiletries you need to shower, plus a hairdryer and flat iron! I genuinely miss it when I can't make it to class. I look forward to going, which is really saying something for me. Give it a try, you'll be so glad you did!! read more

Love Bar Method - I've been at this for five years now and learned my lesson through injury at one of those other "Bar" classes, after the Burbank studio closed...Accept NO substitutes! Owners Kat and Alysia know their stuff and can help anyone, at any age, get an incredible workout to strengthen and tone one's bod. This facility attracts all ages and levels, so don't be afraid - there's plenty of support both from the instructors and the other participants. AND there is the parking on site - two levels, so you'll always find a spot. The only downside is learning self-control around the Marshall's and Michael's stores in the same plaza! read more

I had given up on barre classes. My hips just got tighter and I didn't feel like the changes were positive....more like I was getting slowly injured. *Cough Pop Physique* I decided to try Bar Method, walking distance from my place and they offered an into month deal of $75. Can't beat that....even if I'm not a fan I won't be losing too much money. I honesty love the classes and it feels so much better on my hips/joints. Carpet flooring, risers and soft mats for your hips. Kat, Courtney and Caroline are great instructors and they make great adjustments, so you don't hurt yourself. It's an intense class, but I'm seeing results without any side issues. Hooray! They might not be as affordable as other studios, but you see why; Bar Method doesn't scrimp on their facilities/employees. They actually make the effort to make it a safe and kick ass workout.
