I have been to this Studio for at least 4 years! It was sad to feel how badly I was treated! The I talked to one of the staff in person to ask " freeze my account". And she refused to do when I was there. Instead she asked my to email them. But the email system was down! I called the studio again and was told the system was down and the person who picked up my phone doesn't know how to " freeze my account " and asked my to call back the other day! I even communicated this on IG account! Even though, they know exactly what they did to do to help me. But instead they asked my to call back! This is insane!!!! This is a lovely place. Clean, spacious, comfortable, and the classes are amazing. Very challenging but as a weakling I was able to modify to keep up. This is the only barre class I've ever taken that actually uses elements of ballet dance, so I found it really enjoyable. The staff is absolutely lovely. The students are diverse in age and abilities so anyone should feel comfortable trying a class. Amenities: There's parking on site. However, they do not have a water bottle fill station so come prepared. read more

Amazing low-impact, full body workout for all fitness levels, visible toning, lengthening and leaning results!

First, I'm not a dancer and I still understand the "ballet" terms that they use. In the beginner class, they always explain a little bit more, and correct form with quick tips on how to hold the barre and how your feet/toes/shoulders/spine should be facing. Sometimes your not at the barre, sometimes your on the floor. Lots of variety. They start each class by asking if it's anyone's first time so they'll give those people a bit more love on the form, if you're worried about that. You learn quickly by observing. And as people have said, it's the same structure each time so you pick up easily. It really focuses on all parts of the body, so it's worth your time!! Some parts are fast paced. Some parts are slower, right when you need it. Some parts you realize, "Holy cow, this is what I need to work on!" Personally, I love all the instructors, especially Courtney who is fun and reminds you to smile while she's helping you kick your own butt. Always very positive and I keep those vibes going even when I workout without cardio barre. As for money, I have used the Groupon each year (you can only use it once every 12 months so if you haven't gone/or haven't gone in awhile, look into that). Once you go, you'll want to keep going because it's so fun and a GREAT workout that goes by SO FAST. I also found out they have Flex Pass, which is a discounted price on certain classes simply because it's a slower time of day and they'd like to fill the room. They also give perk points where you could earn free classes by simply going to classes and/or referring a friend. So there's a few options on how to make it more affordable! As for parking, skip the parking lot and park on the street. There's tons of free street parking. I live in the neighborhood, so I could confirm street cleaning is only on one side Friday afternoon (the side closest to the studio). The first part of my experience with Cardio Barre was great. Holly helped me via email and was great and whoever answered the phone when I first called (wish I got a name) was so fantastic and helpful. What a great start! Because of an achilles tendon injury (unrelated to this class), I was only able to use half of the Groupon package I got. All of the four classes I attended were led by great instructors and were never too full. There was always at least half a bar for me. The class is carpeted and everyone is barefoot. Then you do floorwork on a towel that you bring. The studio is clean and does not smell bad or anything like that. So the carpet really didn't bother me at all - as it has in other studios where it seems sweaty and germy. The music is always good and it is a good work out but also one that anyone can participate in. I would highly recommend these classes for any former dancers that want to get back to a barre or working out. The classes were full of women of various sizes and ages and was a great environment. Beginner cardio barre class review I've been attending classes once a week for months now, and I'm definitely a fan! The beginner class is pretty challenging, but not impossible. The cardio portion - which is the hardest to keep up with as a beginner - is the same so you can pick it up after a couple of classes. Courtney and Richard have the best classes. I always get a great workout from cardio barre. I enjoy that wrung-out stretched out feeling you really only get from this chain. I've tried pop physique and it was a different type of workout -- less cardio, but more stretching and toning. Your experience will really depend on the instructor (some challenge you more, some are better for beginners than other, some have different music tastes/playlists....) and the time of the class, so if you don't like your first experience, I encourage you to try a different instructor, a different time, or a different location. This location isn't my favorite -- during the Saturday 9:30 class especially the students can be very rude. However, I enjoyed the vibe of the Sunday 10:30am class. Parking is easy on the streets during the weekend. Can't speak for the week days. read more

The staff here is extreemly rude. I have been here once before and enjoyed the workout, but could have done without the attitude I was given. I decided not to return because of the price ($16/ class! That would be $64 a month for just one class a week) I did think about the bulk passes but really felt it was too pricey for a overfull class. I got excited when I saw the groupon for 10 classes for $40...very doable. BUT when I when in to cash my groupon, they told me very rudely that I couldn't use it because I had been there once before. I thought the point of groupon was to increase buisness?? Not to piss people off. Because of my experience here I will never return to this place and I will make sure of their terrible customer service and buisness ethics. Thank goodness groupon will give me my money back! I still love this place and love the work out and all the instructors. Everything is awesome here except one thing. You charge your regular clients/fans $17/class. At the same time, you give away groupons for $40 for 10 classes but you only allow new clients to use it. So here I am, paying $17/class but in a crowded...way overly crowded room my face is all up in some chick's butt who paid $4.because you had a groupon out and people are using it. I understand you have to market your business but you've got to be fair! you either allow your existing clients to use the groupon too (since in reality we are the ones that keep you in business) OR....you have designated classes for groupon users Or try online booking for groupons in advance so you dont overcrowd your classes. If I'm paying $17/class I don't want $4/class in the same room at the same time crowding the room and making it unpleasent. I think that's fair...right? read more

After a Saturday full of hot dogs, sugary booze, and other guilt inducing treats, I rose early on Sunday to take a 10:30 a.m. beginner class with a friend. I am a crunch gym devotee but today I felt like cheating on it because I wanted to try something new that was closer to home. Plus, I drive by this location every day on my way to work and noticed how it is busting at the seams with women so I wanted to test the waters and see what I was missing. I must admit, this is a pretty intense workout - utilizing the bar for stabilization and doing most exercises in varying ballet inspired positions. The most excruciating (if you're doing the exercises in perfect form) is perhaps in "releve" mode (where your feet are pointed outward and you're on your tippity tippy toes), and doing rep after rep of squats or other various movements. Weights (1,2, and 3 lb were the only available sizes) are incorporated in quick segments to work arms and back. The one "meh" I have to say is that the ab segment doesn't hold a candle to the ab class I do at Crunch (taught by Colin K.). I breezed through the barre abs with ease. A few recommendations for anyone tempted to get off your lazy butts and whoop them into ballet dancer shape: - Get there early - As a newbie, you have to fill in a short sign in sheet, at which point you'll get one of those grocery style plastic keychains (so that you can just check in whenever you take another class again). -Single sessions are $16; if you love it you can buy a series of classes, starting with 10 and it goes on up. It offers some savings that is only beneficial if you do plan on attending classes regularly vs. sporadically. -Parking is a mutha. Another reason to get there early. There are several parking spaces in the rear that have signs that say "reserved for "x". ("X" being everything besides Cardio Barre). Your other option is street parking - and if you park on the opposite side you have to play frogger to get across the street. -Bring a towel, water, and wear flip flops. You will sweat. You will get thirsty (they sell water in a vending machine but why waste money if you don't need to?). You will do the class bare foot. You will not want to do the floor exercises without a towel as a shield between you and the floor, where many a sweaty feet has stepped before you. -Try to get a place with a bar right at the mirrors (along the walls). I did the class in the middle of the studio and I couldn't see jack shit in the mirrors because the class is so jam packed. I like to check my form (especially when I'm trying something new) and I just couldn't do that here. -Keep up the pace. This class goes warp speed to squeeze everything into its alloted hour. This may make it difficult for new people. I was new, but I am somewhat used to the acclimation process due to the different classes I try at Crunch. Just look at the women at the front of the room - usually these are seasoned pros who are doing the right thing. If you look at the girl next to you she may be just as confused as you are. -If you're shy or claustrophobic, this class is not for you. You are literally on top of each other in here. The bars in the middle of the room face one another so sometimes when you do exercises that make you face the bar, you're also face to face with the person in front of your bar. There are about 3 people to each bar. You will bend down into flat back position, sometimes all in a row, so your face may very well be close to someone's ass from time to time. Suck it up, and just do it, baby. Your ass will thank you. :) I got a good workout, mostly due to the repetitions of each exercise, but I wasn't blown away because all the exercises we did were things I've already done before or are currently doing in one class or another. But it is still a good workout nonetheless. It's perfect for the person who doesn't want to do a lot of jumping and moving around but still enjoys a challenging workout. read more

As someone who grew up studying ballet, I was thrilled to try Cardio Barre and bought a ten-class series. Classes start at the barre and progress through the major muscle groups. Teachers keep it quick-moving enough to keep your heart-rate up, yet the movement is low impact so it's great if (like me) you have knee issues that make high impact cardio problematic. But if you think "ballet-based" implies "musical" and "lyrical" think again. In all ten classes I attended, the "music" was pop sped up to rates that made the voices sound like the Chipmunks on helium. I know a lot of people love Cardio Barre, by lifting my leg fifty times to "Thriller" at 20x its normal speed just gave me a headache. If it were just a matter of Cardio Barre not being my cup of tea I'd give it a four -- the front desk staff are friendly and the facilities are clean. But I'm giving it two stars because the classes are so crowded that the teachers have no time to pay attention to students' form. I've spent over three decades studying dance and saw people doing moves in ways that could cause serious damage -- ie, not aligning their knees and toes, not supporting their core muscles, etc. I think it's dangerous and quite frankly negligent for Cardio Barre not to emphasize proper form -- people can hurt themselves without it! There aren't any separate intro classes and teachers don't have time to demonstrate form in the fast-moving class. If you're going to study here, I'd recommend supplementing with another bar-based method so you can learn good form. read more

I bought the Groupon for this place when they had it a couple months back. I think it was something like $40 for 10 sessions, or whatever. I think I went to all of 3 classes. Didn't even bother going to the rest of the practically free classes. I suppose it's generally a pretty good workout...the first time or two. After that I can see the classes becoming very routine and repetitive. Which isn't helpful for your body. The place has kind of a corporate feel. No one is especially friendly or helpful and the classes are entirely too big if you're looking for any kind of attention or focus. The instructors are very...boom, boom, boom, next, next next. By the time you get a hang of one exercise - they're on to the next one! And some people are such "pros" that they're already doing the next move before the instructor even mentions it. That kind of predictability is lame to me. Why don't you just do it at home by yourself?? I also don't like that you have to stand in a cattle call line before going into the class (this could just be the Studio City location)...and it's kind of a first come, first serve line but some people are important. They slide in 2 minutes before the last class is finished and push right up to the front of the line. Um, I have been STANDING in this cramped hallway for 10 minutes. Ugh. I hate rude people but I guess Cardio Barre can't be blamed for not being able to maintain standards and courtesy. I'm not a huge germ freak, but that carpet has to be disgusting with all those bare, sweaty feet. Bleh. Overall, it's like a glorified, expensive gym class. I love that it's close and parking is easy, but that's about it. I feel bad that I made at least 6 of my friends buy the Groupon. Sorry, ladies. Lunch on me. read more

Totally overpriced and over rated. Back in 2008 when I tried cardio barre for the first time I was hooked on it. Now, 8 years later nothing has changed. Same routine, same sequence, same music. And the prices keep going up. For what?? They have 2-3 people max. Working at a time, and there is no need for equipment, besides a room, barre and a few weights. So again, what am I paying for exactly?? Doesn't seem like they are ever developing anything new, so what am I paying for? Not to mention their old outdated mediocre location, with bad parking. They do not provide you with towels, and there is not even a changing room or showers, Just poorly taken care of bathrooms that you can try to change in. What am I paying for?? For some reason they charge more per class than my cycling class. I cycle on Ventura Blvd in a fantastic location in a brand new building. State of the art facilities including private bathrooms showers, free towel and water service and free shoe rental, lots of parking.They have a much larger staff of about 6+people working at a time and they also have a much larger space and much more equipment (43 bikes) to maintain, and I still pay less at this state of the art facility than I do for your lame barre and carpet room. Something is not right Here. There is terrible parking, very hot room, and they like to over crowd the classes and accept too many people in a class. This makes it hard for you to work out to your fullest potential, and did I mention, they charge a very high price for it. Nothing about their business model works. Better go check out the woodland hills location!! Friendlier staff, friendlier people, cleaner studio, better parking, lower prices and overall better experience! The woodland hills studio is slightly smaller and less crowded which really allows for better instruction and a better workout! read more

This would have been a five star in the past. I didn't realize how spoiled I was by taking Byron's classes. He was kind, welcoming, asked in every single class if anyone was new, and knew everyone's name. He also took special care to make sure each person was in correct form and demonstrated each movement thoroughly throughout the class. Sadly, he isn't there any more, and the only classes that fit into my schedule happen to be taught by Richard, the owner. Lucky, right? The owner of the place should give the most personalized attention, right? Well, I've now taken over ten classes with this guy, and he has never even smiled at me, let alone asked my name. Also, he also does a half-assed version of each move, and then "talks" you through most of the class. So if I didn't already have a foundation from Byron's class, I would have no idea if my form was right or not. The last big change is that apparently only the snobbiest bitches come to Richard's classes. 99% of the women in class will not smile or even acknowledge you. (Wonder who they learned that from?) Also, there are two women who talk in full voice through every class I've encountered with them, and Richard has never asked them to be quiet. I come to class to work out and clear my head, not listen to spoiled bitches talking. I held off on this review for a long time, since I really love the workout and have seen results. But I'm sorry, when my Studio City membership runs out, I will be going elsewhere. read more

In slightly less than 2 months, approximately 20 classes later, attending 2-3 mornings per week and not always consistently along with a major Halloween candy and party pizza binge.... I am a size smaller! I'm giving away the 12's, now looking forward to my 10's getting too big by New Years? And I'm much stronger and a little firmer. And I don't feel like an uncoordinated fat spaz, ready to pass out in class anymore. I even had an accident last month--fell on my knee, got stiches in my lip--and I still made it back to class in 10 days and felt better for it. Yay. read more

This is my first review, I was inspired to do it out of frustration with what I just experienced at Cardio Barre. I tried one class around 3 years ago but decided it wasn't a good fit for me at the time. I was happily surprised when a living social deal came up for this and decided to give them a new look. The fine print of the coupon states that it can only be used by new customers which I considered myself to be since I had only tried them out once so long ago, they turned me away. The level of rigidity with this policy is over the top especially considering the room was 3/4 empty. If the purpose of this coupon is to increase their clientele, it was poorly executed. I can't see ever becoming their customer after this experience, the coupon and this policy make the company seem like they are just opportunists trying to generate extra revenue without concern for establishing lasting relationships. read more

I was very excited when Cardio Barre popped up on Living Social. As a former dancer, I used to LOVE taking floor barre classes, and assumed that Cardio Barre would be something similar with more sweating. I could not have been more wrong. The front desk staff was very friendly. However, when I had called ahead to see if there was anything specific that I needed to bring, they said no. When I arrived, I discovered the class takes place on a carpeted floor with everyone in their bare feet. The second half of class you lie on the floor and everyone had brought a towel for this, except me. Lord knows how many peoples toe jam I layed on. Eww. The class was packed to the brim and by the time I had found a spot to place my bag, all the spots at the barre were taken. I met two very nice ladies who let me stand between them and then warned me that the class moved really fast and to follow them if I got lost. Ok, so here is where I really had a problem. There was no stretching, and we immediately moved into a fast paced plié into relevé in triple time. I realize this is where the cardio part comes in, but this is so dangerous! Unless you have some seriously strong ankles you could really hurt yourself moving at such a fast pace. There was no individual attention paid to any of the students and there was zero attention on form. I saw a lot of people executing the exercises in a way that could hurt them. I couldn't, in clear conscience recommend these classes to anyone. It's a glorified aerobics class, and you can find the same at your local gym for a fraction of the price. If you want a real (and safe) dance workout, your better off taking an actual dance class. read more

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. I am doing whatever I can to continue to attend class at Cardio Barre! Not only is it an incredible workout... especially for women. It leans you out and builds muscle with NO-impact while focusing on small accessory muscles. You will be a lean mean fighting machine. I am NEVER disappointed in a class. ALL the teachers are amazing. However, my FAV is creator, Richard. He goes around correcting everyone's technique... It is ALL about body placement, and he keeps you in check. I think he knows EVERY name in the class. (sometimes 50+ girls) You really feel him building into you... your spirit, your body & overall encouragement. The front desk staff is helpful, the studio is clean & welcoming. You think dancer's have HOT bods? Well, you can too... hit up cardio barre. AND WORK IT OUT, BABY! read more

Cardio Barre offers a great, great workout! You will definitely feel the burn everywhere during and after the class. It's challenging, but no impact, which is good on your joints. The atmosphere is not intimidating at all. There seems to be a good mix of people with a wide range of ability levels. If you're just starting a regular fitness regimen (like me), I would suggest taking their Intro class once (offered on Saturdays). This will familiarize you with the different moves so you can look like a pro when you go to the next level and take their Beginner class. Parking can be a pain. You have better luck parking on the street than finding a space in the lot in the back. Get there early anyway - classes fill up fast (especially on weekends). read more

I took 10 classes here using a Living Social deal. The classes are definitely great exercise and they really make you sweat. It's challenging and I could see a difference in my body by the last class. What I didn't like was how fast the instructors go. They go so fast that by the time you figure out WHAT you're supposed to be doing they've already moved on to the next exercise. Even after 10 classes, even though I felt like I was getting the hang of things, I'd still feel lost sometimes. Since everything is moving so fast you really don't know if you're even getting the form right and I felt like I could be doing an exercise wrong and never know it. The teachers are generally good, the only one I didn't care for was Richard Giorla, ironically. Parking is terrible but you can usually snag a spot on Riverside. Classes can get super full so it's better to get there at least 15 minutes early. You have to be fast to grab a spot at the bar since people swoop in like vultures as soon as the previous class is done. It can get annoying. Overall, I liked coming here but not enough to pay full price to keep going. read more

The Workout: I'm not a dancer, so I found some of the instructions difficult to follow at first. Fortunately/unfortunately all of the classes are about the same so even non-dancers can catch up. It's fun and some of the exercises are challenging, but you'll only break a mild sweat. I could easily do 2 classes in a day. The Facilities: There is a parking lot, but it gets so congested you're better off finding street parking (and there's plenty of it). There's a couple of restrooms and a vending machine for water. There are better workouts out there, but I would still drop in for class here. It's fun and easy! Make sure to bring a towel, a bottle of water, hair tie, and socks (if you prefer not to work out barefoot). read more

I have really enjoyed coming to the beginner classes here. I especially love Jessica's classes, she gets your super motivated and takes time to correct anything you may be doing wrong. Here are my pros and cons: Pros: - Parking is easy. I think they have a parking lot, but I have always just snagged a spot on either side of the street for free. - Receptionists are welcoming and polite. - I've really liked almost every teacher I've tried here! (I'm looking at you Jessica, Kevin and Laura!) - Cons: - It is just TOO. DAMN. EXPENSIVE. $19 for a single hour class? Because of the price, I won't be able to return after I've used up my Groupon, which makes me really sad. I take ballet classes at Millennium ($12 for an hour and a half) and I guess that'll be where I continue my work out! If you can afford it, go for it! After trying two classes over a year ago, I finally had extra money (thank you IRS refund) and bought a 50 class package. I spent the money not so much for the savings (every ten classes you buy the price goes down $1 a class) but to remove the excuse I always used for not going back. My goal is to go three days a week and also follow a running program, Couch-to-5k, and to slim down by the end of summer. I am currently 50lbs overweight and need to get this fat off my body! First class was last night and I feel some soreness in my back and look forward to mastering those combined arm/leg movements and to work through the need to take a breather. I came once with a Living Social deal and was unimpressed. It's really popular as the super crowded rooms show and it moves really fast. The instructor for the intro class I went to was really nice but I felt like this workout wasn't for me. I think a pole dancing workout stretches the same muscles and actually requires more strength. Proper form wasn't emphasized in this class and it gets really humid with sweat in this place. I'm glad I tried it and never felt the desire to go back after the first time. meh. read more

Best workout ever. I am not a big gym/workout person, but Cardio Barre is so fun!! The teachers are super nice and motivating, however, if you require a lot of assistance, this is not the place for you. Because the class size is large, there is not much time for one-on-one help. They do often walk around the room and help you adjust your body to do the "move" correctly. Does anyone know of another place similar to Cardio Barre that is less expensive? Due to unforeseen circumstances: unemployment, depression, torn ligament from my teens coming back to haunt me, I've not worked out for 2 years and boy does it show. Due to my ankle walking and hiking are out of the question as is the treadmill and I hate the gym. The podiatrist said surgery or PT. I was doing PT for my ankle but it wasn't doing much for me and those $20 co-pays add up to roughly $240 a month and during work hours. So my ankle and I go in for our first class. At this point my ankle is a separate entity from me. So I go in, totally intimidated by all the barres and the 20 somethings who look like I did when I was their age but here's the kicker, these are 20 somethings like I was a 20 something not the wanna be actresses just young women who are gorgeous by virtue of being young women who show up to classes 3-4 times a week. It got started, the allegedly easy warm up part really gave the ankle a work out - revele, plie... which is exactly why I chose a barre class. After that it sped up. I'm sure I got half the moves wrong but I was able to keep up a lot more than I expected and it was fun. The music was great the only thing I don't like is that its hard to see the instructor, depending on which way you are facing but I thankfully stood next to a woman who looks like she has been doing this forever. The instructor does walk around correcting form and posture (and believe me I have horrible posture). All in all, I enjoyed it, I may join up. I do wish someone had warned me about the full size towel. :) read more

Like many other reviewers, I, too, got the deal through Groupon. I enjoy the classes but I don't consider it a cardio class. Maybe if you aren't very active it might get your heart beating a little faster, but after doing Barry's Boot Camp and Drenched Cardio, this is way laid back for me. Me and my roomie did the basic class and immediately decided to move on to the advanced for more of a challenge. Cardio Barre is, however, a wonderful strengthening class. Your quads will be burning, believe me! I've had Rachel all five times I've gone and she's cute, fun, and very helpful. Their schedule is a little light if you need to go during the evening so keep that in mind. read more

Have taken only two classes here, but I LOVED IT!! The work out is great, works all of the muscles and is also very relaxing for the body. The day after I was completely sore! but you know what they say, "if it hurts, it is working". I'm really looking forward into taking more classes. Damn you, Living Social for getting me hooked on Cardio Barre. I started with a 10 class package with Living Social and I wil be buying more when I need more classes. I took dance classes when I was a kid and I love dancing but I'm not that great at it. Cardio Barre doesn't intimidate me like ballet class did and I get good work out. read more

So I purchased a Groupon for here for 10 classes, and let me just say that it is in my top 3 work out classes to go to. The energy is great, and you really get a kick out of this. I highly recommend you purchase the Groupon, classes/monthly passes are a bit pricey. Just went to my first class through Groupon -- loved it! I'm an experienced dancer and I had read reviews saying things were done too quickly and without form -- while things are done quickly it's certainly not impossible to maintain form and form was emphasized throughout. Loving it! read more

The reason I love yoga so much is because it is different every time I go to class. It gets my muscles out of a slump while I strengthen and break a sweat. But there is something to a strengthening cardio system that has been working on the worlds finest dancers for centuries. The class is very helpful in letting you jump in for your first time because the routine is the same and you see 50 heads all bobbing at the same time during grande plies and 50 legs moving during attitude lifts. It's like being in rehearsal for So you think you can dance. The exercise is in the burn and repetition, and the sweat pours from the quick beat and pulse of the class. More than any other place on Living Social or Groupon's lovely line-up this studio has been the easiest to work with and the nicest. read more

it's a good workout but it is not great. targets some areas, not a bad class, overpriced and never has good specials, if it was priced around 13 or 14 dollars a class it would be in the five star range, that's where this class should live - but for what it delivers at the price point, it falls short for me, I expect more. I do like the classes okay but they really are not particularly challenging. For a really challenging workout I would go to Barry's Bootcamp or M6 Fitness or SM Equinox (kettleball, etc), or Dice at Blackdog. read more
