Best meal in Maui by far! Tonight we experienced the most incredible dinner since we have been in Maui. Our amazing server Nick recommended we get the whole fish; he said to trust him as it is cooked over a charcoal oven. Well, Nick was right... we have had cooked fish from all over the world and nothing was as exceptional in flavor and size as this fish! It came with two sides; we ordered the mashed potatoes and corn and let me just say the corn was phenomenal and award winning! We topped our meal with the banana cream pie and it blew us away! Also, the cocktail menu and wine menu is exceptional. We started with the Ua Kapalua (jalapeño cucumber tequila) and it's better than any drink at any Los Angeles hot spot. This was the worst dinner I've ever had. I had such high expectations of this place seeing as how it is at the Ritz. I ordered a New York strip medium rare, potato's, brussel sprout and the corn. When the food came out they forgot the brussel sprouts and the steak was medium well almost medium. We sent it back and asked for rare. While waiting for the brussel sprouts and the steak the potato's and corn were getting cold also everything was just meh yes that's the best word I can think of to explain how the food was. We ordered a coke and Dr Pepper and while we finished those. They never even refilled them. They just took the glasses like we were done drinking them for good. We had to ask for refills of them once the second steak then came out and the brussel sprouts. The steak honestly not to my surprise was now medium rare almost medium. Was so disappointed. The flavor also was just the taste of just charcoal not really seasoned just a grilled steak no salt or pepper. Even the enhancements that we tried had no flavor. The brussel sprouts was the only good thing I was able to eat but even after everything I was just so disappointed I didn't want to eat my food. My partner ate the steak SMOTHERED with a1 steak sauce mind you he is one of the least picky people. The atmosphere was beautiful, unfortunately we went in a windy day and the small openings at them bottom of the windows made it slightly chilly which the waiter was very helpful and closed those near me to try to help. read more

My husband and I enjoyed everything that we ordered. We got the grilled octopus, banyan tree seafood curry, and a New York strip with a side of béarnaise sauce. Everything was cooked to perfection. The grilled octopus was perfectly charred. The scallops in the curry tasted rich and soft. Great texture on both; not rubbery or dry. The NY strip was cooked to how I want it (rare). Banyan Tree has great service, great views and great aromas. We started off with the Maui Onion Dip. It was extremely unique because it had a super strong lemon (I think?) flavor. The focaccia was great and the Onion Dip was definitely addicting but still not sure if I actually liked it?? Super strange but was still happy we tried it. Next up for the mains, we split a steak and 3 sides. My favorite, by far, was the crispy Brussels. They were charred to perfection and the sauce/flavor on them was amazing. I ended up pouring the leftover sauce onto my steak. Now the steak.... The charred outside was great! Super tasty and flavorful. However the actual meat was insanely chewy. I almost lost David because he nearly choked on a piece going down. This was a bit of a bummer given the steep price ($95 for just the steak.. no sides!) For the majority of our trip in Maui, we stayed at the Ritz Carlton and this restaurant is conveniently on the property. On Fridays at 5:30pm, there is limited seating to participate in Chef's Table which is $150 per person. The day we made reservations, we were the only ones doing Chef's Table that evening, which was kind of cool. It felt very personal. There were 5 dishes. Chef Ignacio was friendly and came out with to explain each one and also check on us. The food was excellent and the presentation was beautiful. We left VERY full and satisfied. To us, it was worth the experience. We had the opportunity to try some customized dishes and enjoy the beautiful ambiance and views. Lovely ambience and location is scenic and beautiful. If you have issues walking down stairs this may not be the place for you. It is down on the ground pool level and you could take an elevator down a bit but still have to work down several stairs and a long path to walk down. Food was incredibly tasty. Our service was great the first 2/3 of the meal but then our server seemed to disappear. We were the first table seated at 5:00pm on our day of service but 4 tables ended up getting out of their before us because we were kind of left on our own for about 20 minutes at the end. I know we are on a slower island time but 2 hours+ for the meal seemed a bit excessive. If you look at the prices beforehand you know it is a bit pricey, I'm not sure it was worth it for us and not sure if we would return but we are glad that we went! The decor in the Ritz Carlton hotel itself is something to check out. Complimentary Valet parking as well. read more

This was one of the best meals we had in Hawaii from a food standpoint, which makes the service experience even more disappointing. My fiancé and I got engaged on the beach below right before dinner, and we came here to celebrate immediately afterward. The host specifically asked whether we were celebrating anything special, and we shared that we had just gotten engaged. We also told our server. Because of how special this place had become to us, we were even discussing staying at the Ritz on future trips to Hawaii. Unfortunately, the experience made us feel completely unimportant as guests because we were not staying at the hotel. Despite spending over $500 on food and drinks on the property, there was absolutely no acknowledgment of such a major life moment -- not even something small like a congratulatory dessert or a glass of champagne. It wasn't about receiving something expensive; it was about hospitality and making guests feel celebrated. What made the situation more frustrating was that the restaurant intentionally asked if we were celebrating anything special and then did absolutely nothing with that information. I even called the next day to provide feedback and was told a manager would reach out to me, but more than a day later I still have not heard from anyone. This should have been one of the most memorable and meaningful dining experiences of our lives, but instead we left feeling overlooked and disappointed. Restaurants routinely acknowledge birthdays and anniversaries, so it was surprising that an engagement -- a once-in-a-lifetime moment -- received no recognition whatsoever. read more

Having traveled extensively for business for many years I have pretty modest expectations for restaurants on property at a hotel. That said, the Banyan Tree is a pleasant exception. The staff is exceptional from the moment you step inside and did a fantastic job serving us. The menu is not extensive but is all appealing. They also have a very nice wine list which we enjoyed as well. The ambiance is fantastic. It's essentially an indoor/outdoor setup with views of the golf course and a beautiful breeze that seems to never stop. I will say it I s quite expensive but everything is in Maui. I went here in 2023 when I was staying at the Ritz. The views are nice, and the setting of the place is cute. During the day this would be a great spot to grab a drink at the bar and see the views. Wife and kids had filets and NY strip, which is pricey, and undercooked (had to use hot stone at table to cook more, which isn't always great when you need to finish the cooking - that's why you go out). Service was better the second night, as it was a bit slower. Very kind wait staff. The onion dip is terrific. Overall, would likely return, but for one night, not two. Banyan Tree was a top notch establishment that my wife and I shared a meal at on our Honey Moon while staying at the Ritz Carlton. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the homemade chimichuri for $8 was probably the freshest/best chimichuri I've ever had. Though we were there late, we never felt rushed. Regarding the food, well worth the price of admission. The NewYork steak was delicious, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. Cozy upscale dining with the convenience of being a quick stroll from your room. The Banyan Tree provides that perfect "on-vacation-dinner" feel. Beautifully decorated with many plants and tropical flowers. The restaurant is open to the hotel and provides wonderful views of the ocean. Playful touches like unique, kitschy glassware added to the ambiance. The grilled octopus was divine! I ordered the Mai Tai and loved it! Even my kids beverages came in the cool glasses rather than the typical plastic cup and straw. My 9 year old son can put away an adult sized steak, and he really loved the 7 ounce tenderloin. (Said it was his 2nd favorite steak ever) I enjoyed the lobster gnocchi which actually had chunks of lobster mixed in alongside the pasta. Our server was great and made me realize that not everyone can be a good server. He was awesome! Another great touch was we were there on a night when they had Hawaiian cultural performers stop by (it was a Sat.) We were treated to about 10-15 minutes of drumming and a fire dancer. Awesome! Our server was very attentive, helpful, and even gave us a complimentary dessert to celebrate our anniversary. It was a Sunday evening, so we didn't expect it to be packed but there were very few people there. Which was good for us, because it was nice and quiet but not good for their business. We had a late lunch, so opted to split a couple of apps, a couple of sides, and one dessert. It was kind of fun cooking the Wagyu appetizer at our table on the hot stone, but 7 small bite-sized pieces for $65 was steep. The location and ambience is wonderful. Nice place with great decor. We loved walking through the resort on our way in and out. The drinks were really strong, which my husband loved, but it was a little too much for me. I felt like the food was overall really delicious. We had an appetizer salad to entrées and dessert. I really enjoyed the salad and the appetizer. His fish was wonderfully cooked, but mine was completely dried out. Overall, our experience was really wonderful. The Banyan tree is located in the same building as the pool restaurant. The views are beautiful from inside especially if you're seated near a window. Overall, the service was fantastic - Charles/Charlie was so friendly and helpful and made our experience lovely overall. The service was also fairly quick which was great. The views are also beautiful! Sadly, our qualms were with the actual food itself. The appetizers were good - we had the brussels sprouts and some truffle fries. There could have been a hint more truffle to the fries however the pineapple with the brussels sprouts was a yummy twist. Our entrees were somewhat lackluster in flavor profile - my fiancée had the lobster gnocchi and I had the vegetable gnocchi. The lobster in the gnocchi was cooked well.The gnocchi themselves were a nice soft texture; however, the sauce (which was the exact same in both dishes) wasn't complex or special at all - it truly tasted like any other salty marinara or store-bought tomato-based sauce. It was missing some sort of spice or pepper or at least cheese or literally anything to make the flavor deeper and more umami. For ~$70 per entree, you would expect a bit more of a flavorful/exciting experience so that was a bit of a miss for us. Our drinks, on the other hand, were amazing! Compared with the burger shack & the poolside bar (where the drinks were pretty mediocre), the coconut mojito and virgin pineapple mojito were amazing!! Maybe it depends what you get but as feedback for the restaurant (if they even read this), more depth on the gnocchi dishes would be amazing and take this experience to the next level! read more

This is located in the Ritz in Kapalua. If you're already staying on site, this is a no brainer since you don't have to drive anywhere nor deal with a wait. There is plenty of seating available - at least in early Dec when I went. The food was top notch as well. The waygu A5 strips were incredible to eat. The mahi mahi was really tasty, esp with the chimichurri sauce that I added on the side. The banana 'creme' (it's actually cheesecake) pie was also really good. Overall, if I were to come back to this property, I would make another trip to eat here! read more

This place was one the pricier side as expected but the food was pretty good! I definitely recommend the Short Rib over the Filet Mignon I really liked the ambiance too. Eating with a view made it all worthwhile! :) The servers were really nice as well. Me being prone to staining my clothes with food, My sleeve got into the filet Mignon sauce! I was kind of sad about it but the server noticed and immediately just gave me a cup of club soda and an extra napkin to try to salvage my dress.
