We are back... Fried chicken sandwich and a side of fried green tomatoes. First the fried green tomatoes, yum. Wish they were cut thicker because they are a bit mushy. Could use a bit more salt but overall good with the homemade ranch is a hit! Fried chicken sandwich was great. Slaw and pickles make it!! Their chicken game is on point. Stopped by this place for a late lunch. Cowboy Nachos. The chips used is not the typical tortilla chips used in taqueria. It's not bad...just different. I did enjoy it however. I liked the sauce they used. It would have been better if they included more pieces of jalapenos. There was only 3 pieces of jalapenos. Carolina Cuban. This very good. The proportion of the meat, buns and sauce was just right. No complaints! BBQ Brisket Burger. The burger patty was way overcooked. Come to think of it, the waitress didn't even ask us how we want the burger cooked when the order was taken. It's very unfortunate. Lastly, fries came with the cuban and burger. Great option for southern cuisine. Hush puppies were delicious, especially dipped in the sauce. I enjoyed my fried chicken wrap. It's a huge serving so could easily be split by two people. Husband chose the pimento burger and while I didn't taste it, he said he wasn't disappointed at all. We chose side salads and they give a generous serving of that as well. Served with a peach vinaigrette. Will definitely be back! Patio isn't large at all, but it was nice sitting outside for dinner. The building is rather nondescript and the restaurant is in front of a gym. People were running around the building, which was kind of weird, but the music they were playing from the gym was fun! Come for the service, amazing ketchup and the most satisfying Cajun fries. I wish they had asked how we wanted our burger cooked as it had no sign of pink. The menu had solid variety with a southern lean with a handful of veggie options. We're from the south and we endorse the fried green tomatoes. They also have a number of local beers but you have to go to the bar to see the selection as they have no printed beer list. Service bumps this review up to 3.5. Excellent find on our road trip back home. The fried green tomatoes were amazing, and we ordered a second batch as a dessert. My son got the fried green tomato burger and declared it his favorite burger in years, and the blackened shrimp po'boy was perfect. Could be perfect. But not. It's close though! Daniel is the absolute best server, anywhere, ever. If he worked in sales somewhere he'd make six figures, easy. I've had the nachos and was disappointed in the queso. I've had the Buffalo chicken wrap and it was good but the blue cheese dressing was so runny it lacked flavor. I've tried the chicken sandwich and the best thing about it is ordering the remoulade on the side for my fries. Many say in business location is everything. The Bantam certainly puts that to the test. They have done a nice job inside, but they are located in a light-industrial area a good distance from any other restaurants or things that would draw a hungry soul to a spot. You can usually find a table or a spot at the bar, but enough people have found the Bantam that I've never seen them empty and seldom slow. So, my two favorites are the fried chicken sandwich (Nashville hot) for lunch, and the Bantam breakfast for brunch. (Fried pork chop, two eggs, collard greens and a biscuit with homemade sausage gravy over the pork chop and biscuit). I've had a bit more than half of the menu to this point and haven't found a loser yet. Just close your eyes and point, you won't be disappointed. Finally, The Bantam is just a breath of fresh air in our town which is dominated by burgers, burritos and pizza. It is worth the drive. read more

Bantam is great. I've always enjoyed the food. Being a smaller local place and dealing with staff sometimes the service is a little slow. But I don't blame them for that, I understand that it's not easy to get people to want to work now a days. Just be mindful if you're trying to get in and out quickly you might want to order ahead. So I'm out in Redding for the week and am in need of a good bite to eat. Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a whirl. The beer, food and service were all amazing. I had the shrimp & grits and it was easily the best I've ever had. I would eat my boot if it was covered in that sauce that the dish has. I told the waitress that based on that meal I was coming back the next day for both lunch and dinner. She laughed, but I wasn't joking. It's a little out of the way from downtown Redding, but this place is well worth any extra travel that you may need to take to get here. Highly highly recommended!!! read more

Stopped by because Yelp reviews and pictures appealed to us. We tried 4 items. They were all scrumptious and yummy. Wish I could have more of the shrimp and grits... still day dreaming! The crab didn't seem fresh and I mostly got shells in my seafood dish. The seafood dish flavor was yummy and saucy, so I asked for more toast. I was disappointed that they charged me $2 for 3 additional tiny pieces of toast. Just for the fact that they nickle and dimed me, I took off the stars. Wow. I am now in love with this superb food joint!! I have heard about Bantam for a long time and was finally lucky enough to check it out last evening... to start off thankfully we had the very crispy perfectly seasoned fried green tomatoes with ranch and the magical HOT habanero oil ... Jimminy Crickets it is addictive drop by drop ;) haha. YUMMY!! My daughter had seen the infreaking credible desserts on instagram which is exactly why we went there to start!! So we ordered the desserts right when we sat down to take to go ... white chocolate bundt cake with amazing thick frosting and toasted coconut and also chocolate cheesecake with ganache and a big glopp of insanely delicious pecan caramelly magic. These desserts were both life alteringly delicious, sincerely. The dinner I chose was the southwest chicken salad with bluecheese dressing as well as buffalo sauce on my chicken chunks... the combination of ingredients was just so tasty!! My daughter had the yummy Ranch Bird sandwich with cajun fries and she loved it... The lovely lady working our table was friendly happy and sweet which always makes the entire let's go out to dinner food experience the most enjoyable and fun! NICE JOB BANTAM!! Truly a hidden gem! My first meal in Redding, and if this is any indicator of the food here, I will excitedly make Redding a stop for future visits. I called in my order and it was ready in 20 minutes. The person who took my call was efficient without making me feel rushed and when I went in to pick up my order, someone greeted me immediately and took care of my order quickly. I ordered an iced tea, shrimp and grits and a side of hush puppies to go. I was back in my hotel in under 10 minutes and everything was still pleasantly hot. To say that the two dishes were flavorful is an understatement - geez!! I inhaled my meal. The grits were equally as flavorful as the shrimp bathing in that creamy, buttery sauce - something that doesn't always happen with shrimp and grits at other establishments. There was only one other time that I enjoyed someone's shrimp and grits and that was at Brenda's in SF. The hush puppies were lightly fried and didn't feel heavy, nor dense, at all. The remoulade dip was a tad bit spicy, not enough to turn you off, but just at a level of comfort for me. I will be happily visiting this place again the next time I'm in the area and hopefully to try more menu items AND their Sunday brunch! read more
