I was busy at working on a Saturday, and I was looking for a place to eat, and I ran across this little eatery, Shorty's Eatery to be specific. The description was American and Filipino food. Right away I knew I had to go. Where I'm from, there are no Filipino restaurants anywhere and I grew up with a lot of Filipino friends, so I was kind of having a craving for some Filipino food. I've driven by this place a bunch of times not realizing what it was. First of all, the place is really cute, rustic and sort of antique. They do have lots of American flags all over the place but given the location, that makes perfect sense. The menu includes burgers, sandwiches, and Filipino food! I tried the chicken adobo plate, which they only serve on weekends, and this was recommended by a gentleman while I was waiting in line to order. Really glad I picked this plate. The chicken was hot and tender and flavorful, and the pancit and lumpia were excellent! I drive by this location at least twice a month, so I'll definitely be stopping by again . read more

Finally hit this place at the right time...lunch. I always thought it was a sandwich shop and a sandwich I had. Miners special is a pastrami panini and a good one at that. The meat was sliced thin, piled high and the bread was top shelf crispy goodness. It came with a bag of chips, like all the sandwiches do, I got a can of soda and this dank brownie. (Oh my) All that for under $15 seemed like a great bargain to me. I was surprised to learn they also have burgers, hotdogs and hold the bus,Filipino Food! This little place at the top of the mountain deserves some love! They serve custom sammies, hot dogs, and delicious Filipino food to keep you warm and well fed all winter through the Trinity Alps. Stopped here by chance driving home and the owner hooked me up with some amazing lumpia, as well as the Filipino plate combo. Was more than enough for the drive home and dinner for the next 2 days, super fresh. Also love how this business has done everything possible to keep their patrons safe: free masks, sanitizer, and even a handwashing station are right by the entrance. The restaurant is conveniently located next to some interesting historic spots as well if that's your thing: ruins of an old bakery and an old pilgrim grave site. I truly hope the best for them. This is the cutest cafe ever! If you're hungry coming back from exploring Whiskeytown, this is the place to go! To order your food, they have menus that you fill out with markers telling them what you would like in your sandwich or your hot dog. They have freshly baked goodies; everyone MUST try their Magic Bar (I wish I bought more than 1). While you wait for your food, you can sit on the adorable wooden chairs and take in the cute decor inside resembling the mid 1860's...or sit outside and play checkers! If you're short on time, you could also call ahead to order your food. I ordered a panini with turkey, roasted bell peppers, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, and Dijon mustard. My wife and I had a really good hand crafted cheeseburger, fries, and some lumpia from Shorty's Eatery. There were also lots of other food selections like sandwiches, paninis, and hot dogs, to pastries, pancit, and other Filipino food. Owner was really nice and shared lots of info about the building and business. We just happened upon this Eatery/Bakery while touring the historic town of Shasta on our way to Whiskeytown Lake (no food services at the lake). We will definitely stop in again, or just make the short 10 minute trip from Redding for the food and atmosphere. So tasty! Delicious sandwiches, homemade desserts (Rollie's own recipes!), tasty Filipino food. The sandwiches were GIGANTIC. I would say I eat an average amount of food for an adult, and this sandwich gave me 2 and half meals. The lumpia were also delicious. Our family evenly divided them up, so there wouldn't be any fights over them. Rollie says he is not a businessman. Unbelievable!! I had to take my father who was staying with me for a couple weeks because I don't cook Filipino food and he misses it. We've driven past on the way to the lake for years. Decided to stop in for lunch. The Lumpia's were amazing. Can't wait to go back and try more of their Pilipino dishes. We had the veggie panini, would have been much better if a panini bread (Focaccia or Ciabatta) was used because the bread that was used got mushy and fell apart after a couple of bites. Also, sometimes less is better. Too much of each ingredient made for a mushy mess too. BUT, the flavor was amazing. The owner was a pleasure to talk with and so friendly. I ordered a sandwich at this deli. It took 40 mins for them to make our sandwiches. I ended up wanting a refund after watching the lady prepare our sandwiches. She wasn't wearing gloves and not once did she wash her hands after picking things up off the ground and touching VARIOUS items & coworkers. She even touched her face multiple times. Ew. She came out and yelled at me for wanting a refund. It was unsanitary and cross contamination was obviously not their concern.I got a refund because I have food allergies... She didn't even give me a chance to explain, she instead decided to yell at me in front of everyone else. I literally couldn't eat the sandwich. I do NOT recommend. I still left a tip. read more
