Brothers Tony & Issac are the friendliest and have made some great suggestions for me to get to know their menu. My first sandwich order yesterday was The Caddy - roast beef, fresh greens, cheddar cheese & crème fraîche on a fresh French Baguette was incredibly delicious. My second visit, I ordered The Maserati - a panini style sandwich with Pesto, Swiss Cheese & sliced tomatoes on sliced sourdough was equally delicious. Luckily both sandwiches were cut in half and easy to have for another meal. They also have an assortment of scones, cookies & other baked treats in addition to salads & fresh fruit cups to add to your order. I tried the Bel-Air (with no bread) (-.-) aka a salad version aka protein style aka gluten free. They served with a side of sauce that comes on the sandwich and a bed of spring mix. The Bakery Station is a good place to visit if you are looking for a good sandwich and a visit to the past when the place you got gasoline for your car back in the 50's was called "The Gas Station" - or even "The Service Station" when there was service. I was wondering why the word "bakery" was in the title. It is because they make their own bread and cookies. The cookies are 5 star! Not overly sweet as most places are in the habit of making them - but full of natural flavors of the grains that builds the cookie. The sandwiches are huge! You will certainly not want to eat for a while after ingesting one of these babies - or the "lunch special" which includes a drink, cookie/chips with your sandwich. (Get the cookie!) The decor of the station is items from the era of the Gas Station, old photos and advertisements. My favorite is above the sink in the restroom: an advertisement of service stations that had the "Clean Restroom" placard. This was the draw to the gasoline station: clean restrooms. The add has testimonials of customers about how clean the bathrooms were at these gas stations. Interesting reading while you wash your hands. You can get your sandwiches "to go" or eat them at the station. This is definitely a hangout for locals. I saw farm workers, medical workers, families and retired people here. This is a good place to visit if you want an above average sandwich or a fantastic cookie! It is not a chain - it's unique and special. read more

When I went to pick up my order of 4 V.W. sandwiches, which was my second trip in three days, I realized I might need to take the time to share this wonderfulness with the world. The Bakery Station is my definition of the lunch mecca of Salinas (although they make breakfast and desserts, too- I just haven't been able to make anymore room in my stomach after my sandwich orders)! An ideal combination of quality ingredients, unique menu items, fun retro atmosphere and real human beings behind the counter who remember your name, what you typically order and deliver a level of service you seem to only be able to find these days in small, privately owned businesses. One of the best sandwiches I've had in recent memory because of the amount/variety and meats in my Supercharger sandwich. The sandwich is a behemoth and a half sandwich that comes with the lunch special is more than enough to satisfy most people's hunger. The lunch special also comes with a drink and cookie/chips. A great deal There are only two tables and a few counter seats so don't expect to eat here with a large group. I had driven past the bakery station many times without going inside. It is small inside with very few dine-in seats. I sat at the window. It is also warm and a bit stuffy inside, so beware if you are going during the lunch rush and want to eat there. I ordered the VW without onions- and it was amazing. It seemed a bit strange to me to have apples, jalapeños, and cheese in a sandwich, but WOW, it was delicious. My co-worker ordered it without the apples (against the wishes of the preparer) and honestly, I don't know how I would feel having the sandwich without the sweetness and crunch of the thinly cut apple slices. This is a really great little place. We liked our sandwiches a lot - we customized the Bel Air a bit (no bacon, on the baguette) and it was very tasty - and huge! We split one for lunch, which was the perfect size. I was impressed by the quality of all the ingredients - the bread was excellent and the greens were a really great touch. We couldn't resist the Mexican wedding cookies (in great colors!), which were very good. I also like that there are some breakfast options - we tried the yogurt + granola cup. I've ordered food from this place through ubereats a couple times already and I've come to find that they aren't consistent with what they put in their sandwiches. I've ordered the supercharger numerous times and a few times they'd forgotten to add the bacon or if I order it was Sprouts they don't add any type of lettuce to it. If I'm paying $2 more for Sprouts I expect my lettuce to also be in there. I've also requested the potato salad numerous times and they don't have it and they claim that they would refund me the money but they never did. Also once they gave me broccoli salad instead and it was beyond disgusting. I had to toss it out.
