It pains me to lower the rating to 3 stars after my experience last week. Usually Cloren is behind the counter. The lady who covered the counter in her absence is rude. She took a single chocolate chewy off its original tray and put it on a tray with sugar cookies. When I pointed out that the cookies were not gluten-free and could contaminate it, she said, it's not touching, it's fine. Clearly she doesn't know or care that the tray, the parchment paper, and the spatula she used were all in contact with items containing flour. Because celiac disease is a factor, now we have to reconsider whether we can safely get cookies here anymore. :( read more

In my previous review I also mentioned that they were unable to do our wedding because of the timing, but in the end they were able to make it work for us - because they are truly that wonderful! They delivered everything we ordered to our Monterey Wedding and it was a hit! They also made all the desserts that we had at my bridal shower! We ordered a 3 tier wedding cake in addition to 11 assorted cakes of different sizes as well as trays of petite pastries and eclairs and tarts as well as bread pudding! We ordered a large amount for our wedding of 150 and let me tell you.. there were no leftovers. People wanted more and always will when it comes to this place. Honestly everything they bake is delicious the only downside is they tend to close like 2-3 times a year for a long period of time and you don't know sometimes when they will reopen. The best there is! Highly recommended! We got a 3 tier-wedding cake and 4 of their 9-inch round cakes for our wedding in Carmel by the Sea. The taste, flavors, clean classic look, and price couldn't have been any better! My favorites were the fraiser (white and strawberry), lemon raspberry, and chocolate raspberry. Each tier can be a different flavor. Cloren and David are the owners. Cloren runs the shop, and David delivers and assembles the cake(s), incl. decorating with flowers that you provide, on the day of the wedding. The shop will loan you the cake plates, pillars, and a silver base board (pictured) for a deposit, but they do not have any platform cake risers, so I purchased white cake stands (pictured) from Wilton online. After you shop around at other bakeries that charge way too much for wedding cakes, and after you've had the cake tastings, you will realize (like I did) that Peninsula Pastries is simply the best choice. This is the best bakery ever! I'm not from the area but got married at the Club at Crazy Horse Golf Course in Salinas two weeks and had them do my wedding cake! All of the guests loved the cakes! My husband and I did a cake sampling and fell in love with three types and couldn't choose just one so we did 3! The raspberry lemon mousseline, the Frazier, and the chocolate ganache. I'm not usually ever a chocolate cake fan but this is AMAZING!!!!! We chose a 3 tier cake of 12,9,6. Then two half sheet cakes of raspberry lemon and the chocolate ganache. One of the first to go was the ganache! The cakes were all so delicious and just perfect. The price was absolutely amazing and so affordable! I love this bakery and so glad I found it.
