Hidden gem alert! Absolutely amazing pastries, quick service and attentive staff and adorable ambiance. I bake personally and not only is the lamination top tier, but its design and flavor combinations are out of this world. We got the discord roll, chocolate croissant, Dubai chocolate croissant. The strawberry vanilla with meringue on top was fresh and light. The real vanilla bean pastry cream was delightful. You could see the trademark specs throughout! What a hidden gem!!!! We don't live far but first time stopping. We were driving out to Monterey when we decided to stop and try this place! Oh man so glad we did!!! Their pastries were FANTASTIC!! I got a pizza roll thing that was so soft and everything! My mom got a ham and cheese croissant and is still going on about it being the best croissant she's ever had. Strawberry danish had yummy strawberry mouse on top. The almond croissant was flavorful and just the right amount of sweetness. The pistachio roulette was filled with a pistachio filling which added to the pastry The coffee was good as well. We got a mazapán latte and a cinnamon lechera latte both with oat milk. AMAZING bakery with the best selection of baked goods, artfully decorated and delicious!! I'm a huge almond croissant fan, and it did not disappoint. It's just off 101, making it easy to get off, get in, and get back on the road. There is no need to go to Starbucks in the same shopping center when the food and coffee are 100% better. They don't have espresso, but they have fantastic drip and pour-over coffee. I will go out of my way to stop in every time I am in the Prunedale, Salinas, Monterey, or Carmel area. I think the first time I went when I posted my first review, it was in the afternoon so they didn't have much bakery options. My coffee was watered down tasting the first time. Located in the Prunedale shopping plaza, Gourmey Central is tucked away in the very right-hand corner next to Stevie's restaurant. Walking through the door, I felt transported to a trendy coffee shop vs. a dingy shopping plaza. Neon signs, soft overhead lighting, upbeat pop music, wood accents and cute tiling on the floor. It's an IG influencer's dream backdrop lol. I ordered: - Iced latte with mint - super refreshing and reminded me a of a knock-off Mint Mojito form Philz. - Fruit tart - loved the glazed fruit and the custard. Very nice thin crust as well. YUM. - Hazelnut croissant wheel - I was hoping to get the pistachio, but they were out. This was crispy, chocolatey, and had a chocolate cream filled inside. There was no one else in the store, so service was quick and easy. I wished they had bags as I was juggling everything while walking back to my car. This quaint bakery did not disappoint. The flaky strawberry croissant had a refreshing filled center not too sweet and my salted caramel coffe with almond milk paired perfectly with it. My husband had the ham and cheese croissant warmed with a pepperoncini on top gave it a savory aftertaste with an iced Nutella coffee. We also shared a key lime tart with meringue topping. Stopped by last week just to check out the bakery and ended up leaving with two pastries--impossible not to. Everything looks incredible. I went with the croissant roulette and the chocolate croissant, both excellent. Izzy at the register was super kind and shared that the pastries are made fresh daily and inspired by the owners' trip to France, which they wanted to bring back to the local community. I love the story behind Gourmet Central Bakery, and the pastries live up to it. The filling in the roulette was fantastic, and the chocolate quality really stood out. We've been here twice now, and today we got to try their "viral" pistachio rolled croissant. I absolutely won't be ordering any of them again, unfortunately. The first one I tried was their "cajeta", and the filling was really grainy and almost bitter. The pistachio filling is also extremely off putting. There was way too much inside and while it seemed to made from ground pistachios, there was no pistachio flavor at all. It's also dipped in a green dyed white chocolate, so that also didn't have any pistachio flavor. The croissant itself is pretty decent and flaky but, the filling is not great at all. I'm also never sure what time to go, because they've either sold out of everything for the day, or nothings been put out to display yet. It's been very hit or miss, and for the price.... A beautiful locally owned bakery located in a small town near Salinas,Ca. I was driving with my kiddos last week and my daughter noticed the sign for this bakery. We turned in to see if they were open. I was pleasantly surprised to have such a beautiful bakery tucked away in this particular shopping center we would frequent when visiting from out of town. One thing I love about a good bakery, they usually serve a mean espresso that will appease to my daily coffee bean addction. This cup didn't disappoint. The young lady working the counter was the sweetest in finding out which items we could order due to food allergies. We ordered a strawberries and cream pastry and a strawberries croissant. Everything here was made with a croissant and oh my! It's the perfect consistency and had the fresh ly baked smell and the crunch. The strawberries and cream pastry was too die for paired with my coffee was a match made in Heaven. I will be day dreaming about this sweet treat until my next visit. I hope this bakery is still here the next time we are in town. I wanted a bite of my daughter's croissant, but I'll have to order two next time. She didn't leave me a bite! I found this spot on Yelp I had expectations of a latte & a pastry due to their beautiful decor "espresso yourself." Taking a star off because I was really bummed to find out they don't have espresso and I had driven out of my way for it. We are very lucky to have a quality bake shop like this in Prunedale. I've yet to have anything that wasn't amazing from this shop. The employees are very welcoming and eager to answer any questions one may have about the baked goods they sell. Overall service is amazing and the shop is very cozy and inviting. It's hidden away tucked in-between the auto zone and Stevie's Restaurant. It's a bummer they are not allowed to make specialty coffee drinks. Rumor says prunetree had some type of clause where only SugarBucks is allowed to make espresso. Not sure how true that is but it seems to be the general consensus. That said, their brewed coffee is on point. Hopefully they'll be able to someday sell espresso. read more

Food? High quality European style pastries and great coffee! Service? Again, reminiscent of a friendly, professional European bakery. Ambiance? Super clean, well decorated, comfy place to sit, take a break, and have a coffee and pastry. As opposed to a dark, hipster, new age music, corporate coffee place. I think even old Prunedale growlers would feel comfortable here. My partner brought home a hazelnut roulette and an almond croissant for $18 including tax and tip. Pricey, yes, but the quality of the ingredients is exceptional, and the size of the pastries are double what you'd get at a normal bakery. The roulette was filled with a delicious pastry cream, and the chocolate dipping was perfect! I hope they offer flavored pastry creams, too! The almond croissant was heavy with marzipan and topped with a ton of sliced almonds! Walking in, it feels like you're walking into a bakerei in Berlin. Warm, with amazing aromas, yet clean and a no-nonsense, professional, but friendly presence. So happy that this business is in our neighborhood! We'll be back often! read more
