Wow, we found this bakeries bread at the Salt Wood Kitchen at The Sanctuary in Marina. Otto's bread was served on a brad board. OMG the pairings and the breads were outstanding. We had to ask about Otto's bread and was told a local place in Salinas. Had to make this a stop on our way home. Purchased two loaves and cut in half and froze when we got home. A week home and only have half a loaf remaining. Walking in smelled like an old school bakery. Believe the baker/owner was at the counter. Welcoming and friendly. This is a tiny, tiny, absolutely wonderful artisan bakery. I stumbled upon it and just was looking for a light breakfast. So small the baker moved some sacks of organic flour off a table so I could sit and enjoy. Amazing craftsmanship! The pastry was wonderful- just what I was looking for. The Baker was friendly, welcoming and made suggestions where to visit in the area. It's awesome places like this that deserve the support of the community! read more

First time at Otto's! I came in with my cousin around later afternoon...like at 1:30 pm. The worker expressed that most of their popular breads sold out and that they usually sell out close to 11:00 am..so I thought "I definitely gotta go this place at its peak time!" It was a quick grab and go situation. With the selection they had, I got a croissant and their sourdough pretzel. I warmed them up once i got home and it was tastyy! The sourdough pretzel was my favorite with the light saltiness! And the croissant warmed up is fresh and not tooo oily or buttery but just right! I did add butter ofc to it lol - flaky and warm yum! read more

The bakery is exactly that with a very limited retail space, so it's not an ambiance meant to knock your sockshowever this is because that they do is bake and their love and affection to the bread making is what makes it so good and delicious. The he staff is always friendly and will make the effort to get you what you need while also being respectful and professional. The bread is not to miss. New favorite spot. We always come away with some amazing goodies. Legit sourdough Bavarian style pretzel is our family favorite. Their breads have an incredible crumb and there's a fab aroma on all of the sourdough products. Other standouts are their chocolate chip cookie, chocolate croissant, and the shoch dairy butter they stock. I'm gonna try a coffee and some sardines next time! Otto's is such a great bakery, so fresh! The staff is super kind and everything was very tasty. Picked up a box of pastries and some baguettes. I shared the treats so I didn't try them all. The snickerdoodle cookie was incredible and the monkey bread was great with a cup of coffee. This place is the real deal! Super happy they have expanded their hours. If I could give this place a 10, I would. I tried the plain croissants, pretzel, and seeded sourdough loaf. The butter croissants reminded me of those in France - full of butter flavor, flaky exterior with a chewy interior, and a nice rich color from the bake. The pretzel was large, flavorful, and authentic, with a dark brown chewy exterior. The seeded sourdough was perfectly made, with an "ear" that I could use to pick up the loaf, an open texture, and delicious flavors from the seeds. I am really surprised by the 5 star reviews. I've gone a couple of times and it has been inconsistent. First time they didn't have their breakfast sandwiches, there was a sign saying it was due staffing. Second time, they said they only serve those a few days out of the week. Both times I got a danish and some other pastries. They were good/fine. I feel like I need to have a back up plan when I go because they be out of something or unable to make something on their menu. read more

We came to check out the pastries now offered at Otto's Bread Company , they all looked so beauftiful and tempting. I got an Almond Croissant and a Sourdough Pretzel. The Croissant was fabulous, dense and packed with Frangipane, delicious . It's a big Pretzel that comes with some house made awesome ground mustard, so good. But the biggest surprise here is Otto's happy hour! We're definitely coming back for the Pretzel and beer happy hour for only 10.00! read more

I finally was able to stop by after reading all the good reviews. It did not disappoint! I bought almond croissant , cranberry scone and a whole country sourdough! The almond croissant is super delicious! You can tell it's made with a real good quality ingredients! It's crunchy on the outside but creamy and moist in the inside. Cranberry scone is also very good. I have not tried the county sourdough yet but I already could tell it's going to be good! I definitely recommend so far basing on almond croissant and cranberry scone. update :'country sourdough is also delicious. It truly is a sourdough in every sense of it. Found this place after a couple visits to the spot next door, and I'm glad I finally checked it out. The sandwiches were great, and the bread options they did have were super tasty. You can't go wrong with fresh, good quality bread. That being said, Otto needs to get his feet under him a bit before climbing to 5 stars. He just recently went to being open weekdays, so I was happy to see it open when I drove by last week. The front is great, there is ample parking, and a wonderful accessible entrance. Inside is pretty bare-bones, mostly storage for materials, but the smell when you walk in is great. Small counter, limited menu, but all good. I went in for Ham & Cheese Croissants, but I was too late, they were sold out. I got a couple of Chocolate Croissants and a huge Sourdough Pretzel. My wife praised her Croissant as the best she's ever had (and she used to work in a bakery). The Pretzel was, as I mentioned, huge. It was a bit tougher than the Philly street Pretzel I was expecting, but it was an enjoyable eating experience. A couple of days later, I remembered the second Croissant and heated it briefly and it was still really good, the crust was incredibly flaky, the chocolate was Divine, another great eating experience. I'll go back in the hope that things get better each time. (He did mention that, when he hires more help he wants to do warm items like "Sardine Toast" with the fine sardines he sells at the counter). read more

Don't sleep on the sandwiches, they may look unassuming but they are so flavorful! Got a mortadella and provolone Sando when they were at the Salinas Valley Health Farmers market and it was delicious. Bread was soft but with a good crust (but not hard to bite into), meat and cheese were quality and the spread was so flavorful.
