Hometown vibes at its finest. Literally the largest and freshest sandwiches and they are so fresh tasting. I actually prefer dining in her than taking to go because it's such a ma and pa vibe, the decor, the ambiance just make you feel good. Lovely staff and friendly vibes.

Loose Caboose + Sprouts on Sliced Sourdough

Loose Caboose is ok! I stopped by for a sandwich on Saturday around 1 and was a bit disappointed when they told me they were out of French Rolls. Ok, whatever I just got the sliced sourdough instead. I got the Loose Caboose with sprouts and it was surprisingly really good. Everything was so fresh and the sprouts were amazing. I love a sandwich place that still does sprouts, its rare! The only thing I disliked was the sliced sourdough bread. It was too thin and was barely holding the sandwich together. The tables appeared to be clean, it was tidy. However the place as a whole could use a good dusting. Dang I get it, they are going for the retro feel but you can achieve it without all the layers of dust and dust balls on everything. The ladies behind the counter... so sweet! They were attentive and our sandwiches came out fast. I asked for a water and they later asked if I wanted a refill. Honestly, I would have given this place 4 stars, easily! HOWEVER, if you follow my reviews you know for me consistency is key. The fact that a sandwich shop is out of bread is less than ideal. It's one of the main ingredients. I will definitely be back!

The atmosphere feels warm and welcoming, with trendy décor that is very appealing to the eye. When I arrived, it was a little challenging to find the full menu, and I wasn't greeted right away. However, I understand places can get busy, so I didn't let that affect my overall impression too much. I ordered the Panini Caprese sandwich, and my son ordered the Caesar salad wrap. My sandwich didn't look quite as full as the photo, but honestly, the flavor made up for it. It was delicious with great texture, and I loved every bite. I also appreciated that it came with pickled jalapeños on the side, which was a nice extra touch since I love adding those to sandwiches. My son rated his wrap a 3 out of 5. He felt there wasn't much chicken inside, and there also wasn't much Caesar dressing, so it mostly tasted like a wrap with lettuce. It would have been a much better experience if they had included more chicken and Caesar dressing on the side to add more flavor. Overall, I'd definitely come back and try this place again because I really enjoyed my sandwich and the café itself has such a cute, cozy vibe.

When we asked about the spice level, the staff clearly explained what to expect. The drink selection was a pleasant surprise, offering a variety of sodas including Jarritos and Jamaica. I ordered the chicken sandwich with jalapeños, mac and cheese, and a Jamaica, while my husband chose a sandwich with fries. The food exceeded our expectations. The chicken was extremely crispy and flavorful, and I was pleasantly surprised to receive an extra small chicken strip on the side. The house sauce was delicious, and the staff generously provided plenty of it along with honey and ranch without us needing to ask, an appreciated touch. The mac and cheese was creamy and felt like my mom's homemade one. The fries are more like cross cut fries and come extra crispy as well, which I like. Service was friendly and efficient, and the staff even shared the story behind how they decided to specialize in chicken sandwiches. While the restaurant itself appears a bit run down and parking was somewhat confusing for first time visitors, the quality of the food and the welcoming service more than made up for it. Overall, I would definitely return. In my opinion, these are the best chicken sandwiches in Salinas.

Starting with the Supercharger, this was easily the standout of the two. It's loaded with roast beef, bacon, turkey, ham, salami, pepperoncini, tomatoes, red onions, gouda cheese, and chipotle aioli on a ciabatta roll. They definitely don't skimp on the meat, which makes it super satisfying. The combination of the soft ciabatta and cheese worked really well together and balanced out the heaviness of the meats. My only complaint is that it could've used a bit more sauce, something like extra mustard or mayo would've taken it to the next level. Still, a strong 8.5/10. The Belair was decent but didn't quite hit the same level. It came with turkey breast, bacon, gouda cheese, spring mix, tomatoes, red onions, pepperoncini, and chipotle aioli on fresh sliced sourdough. Ours actually came with American cheese instead of gouda, which slightly changed the flavor profile. It was a good sandwich overall, but noticeably drier, especially with the sourdough, so it definitely needed more sauce to bring everything together. I'd give it a 7.2/10. Service was fast and efficient, which I appreciated. The ambiance stood out too, it has a cool retro gas station vibe that gives the place some personality and makes it feel unique. Staff was friendly, and the overall experience was smooth.

We ordered avocado toast, French toast, banana pecan pancake, house potatoes, and an Aperol spritzer. My avocado toast was served on a single very thick piece of bread, which had a very generous amount of avocado smash and was topped off with this delightful and fresh arugula salad. I added an over easy egg for an extra charge that was the perfect balance. The house salad was simple with butter lettuce, cherry tomatoes, radish, cucumber, with a light lemon house dressing that brought the salad together. It was refreshing. The French toast is pretty standard. Nothing that particularly stood out. The banana pecan pancake was delicious and shared with everyone at the table. The house potatoes were extra crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, which I found particularly satisfying. But I think that is about to change. I was at the Farmer's Market that happens right outside this place on Saturdays and I ventured in for an iced tea. What I found was super friendly service. They said I could sit outside at the tables to enjoy my beverage - even if that was all I purchased. That was so cool of 'em that I decided to try a cheeseburger. It's a pretty good burger! We recently had a slew of cloudy, chilly rainy days in Nov. 2025 so today seemed warm and the cheeseburger had a summery char-grilled flavor, perfectly cooked and juicy. They bring everything on the side so you can choose how much you want of everything - lettuce, generous serving of sliced tomatoes and onions. I just have to remember to hold the mayo next time. Some of the outdoor seats have umbrellas and some don't so you can decide if you like shade or sun. They also have heated tables (firepits) for evening dinners. Server came and checked on me twice and when I asked for a to go cup for my tea, she filled the to go cup for me rather than just making me pour what I had left into it. We normally do takeout and they have unique Mexican options from Oaxaco that are healthy Blue Zone inspired dishes alongside the more traditional Mexican options. Plus perennial faves that carried over from the previous owner like real roasted turkey. This is a cool place with solid options to suit many tases and the best part is the super friendly service.
