I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The room was clean and comfortable and the amenities were wonderful. I was in room 205. Cons: -Water pressure in shower was low -Blanket on bed was too heavy, although there is a lighter one in the cabinet under the fridge -We wanted to use the fire pit late at night, but there weren't any batteries in the igniter and it was too late to ask hotel staff -thermostat was...weird, but the temperature was great without it, so we didn't try very hard with it Pros: -Snapple, water, and snacks provided -super comfortable bed -I didn't get tree best view, but the view was still good -nice and friendly service -we were going snorkeling and the lady at the front table let us know that there was a beach bag in our room packed with 2 beach towels -very clean -continental breakfast was good -some of the better bathroom soaps I've used at a hotel read more

best hotel my partner and I have ever stayed in. Really pleasant and absolutely charming. Everything was really well thought out, all the small details in the bathroom and the bedroom with the little popcorn treat and drinks in the fridge. There are books in the bedroom for you to read. The decor was also very homey, really represents the Avalon beachy feel. The staff I think are what make the hotel so spectacular, really friendly and personable, knew us by name and most helpful. Really nice accommodations and the room services and decor are tasteful, comfortable and well appointed, the rooftop view is beautiful and I felt at home here immediately! Location is just a little off the beaten track, but it's much more tranquil then being in the middle of everything, so I was very pleased with the experience here. read more

Highly recommended for the helpfulness and local knowledge of the genuinely welcoming staff. Many of the rooms have balconies, and some have direct water views ... which are inspiring. Regardless of your room, there's the rooftop terrace which offers unmatched views of the harbor and the town. It's a great spot for a late morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Nice clean hotel with a bed-and-breakfast feel. I like that the free breakfast has hard-boiled eggs. The staff was friendly and they are very accommodating with your luggage if you need to store it before check-in/after check-out. My favorite part of the room was the bathroom; it was super clean and bright, with good-quality soaps and shampoos and lotions (try the sea salt scrub, it feels great after a long day of sun and sand). It's a bit pricey but considering there's only like a dozen hotels in Avalon, the Avalon Hotel had a really nice cozy feel to it, tucked away from the touristy main drag yet located right off of it and convenient to walk to everything. We had a nice stay. They also give you a taxi voucher to pay your cab to and from the ferry. read more

We recently (April) took a one night trip to Catalina, and for the first time, spent the night on the island. My daughter and her husband were in room 205 and my husband and I were in room 305. The rooms were quiet and off the main street, so we slept beautifully. The rooms were spacious, and the bed terrific! Our views were of the garden below,, and the rooftop deck was where we spent a ton of time enjoying the wine and cheese happy hour. The best part, by far, were the employees. Diana, Kim, Melissa and Laura were all friendly, helpful and wanted to make sure our stay was perfect! Whenever we go back to Avalon, we will definitely stay at the Avalon Hotel. (PS, the free to and from taxi service is a plus). read more

I absolutely cannot say enough about this hotel. It doesn't even FEEL like a hotel - it's better! And, I love hotels. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with genuine friendliness and happiness. We felt like we were staying in a beautiful home with friends, but yet had our privacy. Laurie and Erica are so welcoming and naturally hospitable. The room was perfect - cool and spotless. And, the view! Amazing. The toiletries are a major perk - the organic body butter and sea salt scrub was so delicious-smelling, you'd think you can eat it! (I didn't) - but I did purchase some lotion before we left. We checked out on Friday morning, but weren't leaving to head back to the main land until 7 that evening - so Laurie made sure to let us know we still had the hotel for the remainder of the day. We left our luggage and explored the island more - and were even invited to join the hotel for wine and cheese at 4 pm on the patio with the other guests! Needless to say, we did and it was just lovely. The koi pond is adorable, and even the koi are friendly and happy to see you! It's just another example of how much we were impressed by this hotel and its staff. For us, there is no other place to stay while visiting Catalina. We will definitely be back! read more

I had a wonderful stay here. The staff, the room, the views, everything was absolutely amazing! Before I arrived, I received a call from Laurie with the Avalon Hotel, she wanted to know what time my ferry comes in. Very nice small gesture to check in on me to see if I needed anything. I was in an ocean view room, which was very cozy, clean, with amazing views. They provide you with bath essentials, lotions, shampoos, and even cotton swabs - I always forget these when I travel so I loved this. They really take care of you here. Wonderful hotel, wonderful staff. The complimentary breakfast is delicious, hardboiled eggs, muffins, fresh fruit, so much to choose from. There's snacks in the lobby, we had candy and drinks in our room which were complimentary. Laurie and the rest of the staff are so friendly! The Avalon Hotel does everything right! This was our first time to Catalina Island and I am so happy we decided to stay at the Avalon Hotel. From our first arrival, the woman working at the front desk, Laurie, was amazing. She was thoughtful, friendly, and courteous to us our entire trip. She went above and beyond to make sure we had a great visit. The room was clean and kept cool with a great AC unit. They restocked our fridge with cold beverages every day. Our unit faced the courtyard and we heard great relaxing sounds of the fountain outside. Although our room didn't have a water view, we utilized the rooftop deck which we loved! We spent every evening on the rooftop drinking wine, playing card games, and watching the sun set. This is our 2nd time at the Avalon Hotel in Catalina & it was just as good. From the nice people who work there like Lori, to the free bottle of good wine, wonderful courtyard breakfast (free), our favorite Koi, and the beautiful rooftop patio with the gorgeous ocean view, we had a wonderful time. I decided to plan a Anniversary Trip to Catalina. Based on customer reviews The Avalon Hotel seemed to be the right choice. All I can say is WOW. I called in to make the reservation. They set everything up for me. Everything from Red Wine in the room, to booking our Anniversary Steak Dinner w/ Flowers on the table, to Rose Petals in the room. We booked the nicest suite they had and the views were over the top. Beautiful! My wife was amazed on how much we planned out the trip. The research we did before booking a hotel on Catalina island was well worth the investment in time. This hotel far exceeded our expectations. The staff was among the best I've seen in any hotel; helpful, cheerful, and genuinely friendly. The rooms were impecable and tastefully decorated. And you can't beat the location. Close enough to the action but far enough not to hear the partygoers when stumbling back to their respective hotels. If you book a room, I suggest spending a few extra dollars for a room with a balcony. When you're enjoying your favorite beverage on the balcony you'll be glad you did. read more

The Avalon Hotel is now my favorite hotel! When we arrived we were greeted by Laurie at the front desk who was very friendly. She made us feel so welcome and offered to store our luggage for us until our room became available. We were in Avalon for a 4:30 p.m. wedding and we're so happy when Laurie helped us move into our room early to get ready. The Avalon is very, very quiet and their continental breakfast is served in a lovely tropical garden with a waterfall pond. Our room was immaculate and included an ultra violet light in the bathroom to reduce germs, and a UV light box on the night stand to sanitize our phones, masks and the TV remote control! This review is coming a year late but hey, better late than never! My son got married in Avalon last October (2018) and we stayed at the Avalon Hotel for 4 days. We had family in our hotel and one across the street. We could wave at each other from the balconies and we had a wonderful time. The hosts and staff were wonderful, the receptions were fabulous and the staff was there to help with whatever was needed. The best service and experience we have had in southern California! My husband surprised my for our anniversary / birthday and booked us on the helicopter to go over to Catalina island for the night. The Avalon hotel is a 5 star experience without the 5 star price tag. Our taxi trip was short and included in our stay! We loved the staff, they went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and at home. Central location with everything in walking distance, our view was spectacular and romantic. We accidentally left some clothes in the closet and without hesitation the hotel posted them back to us within 48 hours! Incredible! We have stayed at other 5 star hotels around the world that were far less accommodating. We will definitely be coming back here again, thank you Avalon hotel for a beautiful stay. read more

This is a lovely hotel. It would be expensive but we bought a package which included the ferry ride and taxi transportation to/from the island/hotel as well as a second night. The location is one block off the beach front street which provides easy access as well as quiet. Only a few of the rooms have the fantastic view, so if you want it, ask for a room with a view. You can, however, go to the rooftop and enjoy the view from there...some guests had brought a bottle of champagne to do so, which seemed lovely. The lobby is tiny but does have coffee/tea, nuts, pretzels and store- bought cookies. The breakfast is continental, cold but hardy, and served in the courtyard - there really is no place to serve it inside. It could be cold outside so you may want to take it to your room. The inn keepers are very nice as are the room and appointments. All and all, a lovely hotel. read more

I am actually appalled at the rudeness by someone supposed to be a representative of a company. First impression is that this use to be a old apartment house ( narrow creaky stairway) that was remodeled and they spent some decent change on the project. It still is lacking some small comforts like comfortable chairs in the room at which you can sit and read in the evening if you want. The rooms are small and a little cramped unless you spring for the corner suites which will set you back about 6 big ones. For that price I expect perfection and at least a newspaper at your door in the morning. The first surprise was that we were booked on the top floor, and no one offered to carry the two bags we had. At 66 yrs of age, I needed a breather half way up to the last floor. It wasn't bad but someone offering to schlep the bags would have been nice, I would have even dropped a 5 or 10 for that service......BUT NO.... Otherwise the room was OK, quiet, clean and comfortable. Easy walking distantce to everything, but next time I think we will opt for the Hotel Metropole, just looks a little more classy and it doesn't have that old apartment hallway smell...... read more
