Our experience tonight was not even worth one star. As long-time patrons of the Attic under the previous owner, I am sorely disappointed by several changes. Tonight, we made a reservation for 8 people at 7pm. We were on-time and seated right away. We waited 30 minutes before we our order was taken. At 8 o'clock, appetizers arrived. Drinks were empty several times--our waitress brought a giant pitcher of diet coke which she promptly spilled on the table. At 8:45, an hour and 45 minutes after we arrived, the last of our entrees arrived. One order was wrong, another had a giant black hair in it. Instead of comping the entree with the hair, the waitress charged us full price and added 18% gratuity, and, for good measure, added drink charges for drinks we never received. We reluctantly gave our credit cards to our waitress who walked past our table for another 20 minutes without bringing them back so that we could sign and leave. She brought a sliver of cheesecake for the entire table of 8 to share as an apology...before bringing our cards back! We had already refused dessert and told her we just wanted to leave. Not to mention, when you find a hair in your food, the last thing you want is more offerings from an unsanitary kitchen. We left our table at 9:30. A full 2.5 hours after arriving, and my sister in law ran to use the bathroom on the way out. The door got stuck and she broke her fingernail prying the lock open! As if all if this wasn't enough, my niece threw up shortly after arriving at home around 11pm. The attic used to be a Clarkesville gem. But it seems the new owner's stinginess has allowed this place to go to pot. Higher prices, poorer management, slower service, worse food. You're better off at McDonald's. read more

Dinner last evening with a friend. It was the first time either of us had been to The Attic. Here's a little summary of how our evening unfolded. A warm welcome and, since we arrived early, we were able to select our desired table. Sarah, our server, (more on her later) was quick and efficient with getting and delivering our drink orders, fresh bread, and sharing info on the nightly specials with us. They only serve beer and wine - no full bar - so, we both decided on a glass of the CA sauv blanc. The beer list was well rounded - the usual suspects along with some interesting local craft brews. The wine list could have had a bit more depth. I opted for the fried shrimp - which I was assured were from the gulf and fresh (which means from the gulf and frozen unless they have a way to drive or fly the little crustaceans daily) and my dining partner chose the meatloaf. Each of our selections came with a choice of salad - house or Ceasar - and a choice of one side. My dining partner went with the Ceasar and I had the house. We both were in a "mashed potato mood". Sarah made certain that our meal moved at just the right pace, checked on us frequently (but certainly not annoying), had a dry sense of humor and wasn't afraid to use it, and (always important to me) seemed to honestly give a shit that we were having an enjoyable experience. Dessert? Sarah walked us through the options and we went with one of their house made choices: the brownie sundae. It is a good thing we were sharing because it was plenty for two people. An "oooooo-ey goooooo-ey" warm brownie with chunks of chocolate, vanilla ice cream, two sauces - chocolate and a "berry", with several little pillows of whipped cream. Therefore, I have arrived at these ratings: - venue 4 stars - service 5 stars - food 4 stars - value 4.5 stars Would I return: absolutely. Would I recommend: you bet. I was part of a group of 16 with reservations and preset menu. The food was excellent, but plates were delivered so staggered that some of us were done before all had their food. Staff was in survival mode after working double shifts. The kitchen really screwed up on delivery. read more

The first thing I noticed is that the attic is very strong on customer service. I went as part of a group of 14 people, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Our visit was altogether enjoyable. They don't have any beers on tap, but they do have a selection of bottled craft, domestic, and import beers as well as a selection of wines. I tried the Sweetwater 420, which is a nice IPA. On to the food! We sampled a few of the appetizers, some of which included spinach artichoke dip, nachos, mozzarella cheese sticks, and the fried green tomatoes. You can't go wrong with any of these! as for dinner, I chose the tuna steak on a cucumber salad bed, which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either. If you happen to be in the area I'd say should check this place out! read more

Been in this area for a while and heard good things about this place. Visited on a Monday night for the first time, so it was quiet, until we sat outside on the patio, the evening traffic is loud to say the least, so if you want a quiet dining experience stay inside. I had the Pasta Andouille....which was 'ok' not great, had better somewhere else in this town. My company had the blackened snapper which was excellent from all reports. The salads and bread with the meals were great also. Our server was totally disinterested in us though, (i think just got annoyed because we asked her to repeat the specials)....after that had to ask twice for everything...then annoyed us about paying...seems she was in a hurry... $70 for two entrees and bottle of house red...probably more than I would like to pay for a Monday night out around here...but it wasnt too bad.... read more

We expected this restaurant to have better than freezer mozzarella sticks with shredded bag cheese thrown on top. I ordered the creole pasta which was ok a little to saucy for my liking. First time I came was for lunch... appetizers were cold (had mozzarella sticks, the cheese was hard), (lobster dip was cold and the bowl was warm it was confusing). Then the food came in, it was okay but the dinner menu caught our eye to return. Returned to give it a second chance. Appetizers again were cold (spinach dip was a soup, the bowl was the only thing warm) (the lobster dip AGAIN cold, had to ask waiter to warm it). Then dinner arrived: my loaded potato soup came with a finger... waiter brought it with his index inside and apologized after he placed my plate down, pork chop was raw it was returned. The food is so good! We got the Creole pasta, filet mignon, stuffed trout, & pork chops w/ blackberry sauce. All were amazing and nothing disappointed. Decided to try this place for our anniversary. It was really great. We got the stuffed pork chop and filet tower. It takes a while for the pork chop to cook (the waitress informed us it would be about 30 minutes) and it was definitely worth the wait! We live in Helen and we were giving a gift certificate for The Attic. And sooo glad! This is like a big city restaurant in a small charming town. The menu and the food was incredible! Were skeptical but pleasantly surprised. They need to get rid of the microwave in the kitchen as that makes for a bad impression. Started with the fried green tomatoes- very good especially with their homemade ranch. Then had the lobster pimento cheese dip own their homemade tortilla chips- very tasty. Finally had two bowls of soup- the red pepper with Gouda was excellent but the potato soup had entirely too much oregano- killed the flavor. Still I hand it to them to hand make the soups. The servers were very friendly. There are some things that need tweaking. My wife noticed the black tablecloths underneath the butcher paper on our table was dirty- it looked like it hadn't been washed in sometime. Also a worker was sweeping the floors with a broom ( and also took to a seat) when we were seated- that's just plain stupid while diners are ready to eat. Lunch today: not good. I have been here before and thought my first visit (dinner) with my partner and my parents was pretty good. Today was a real let-down. I have an injured foot and had to visit the doctor's in Demorest. We needed to drive through Clarkesville to go back to the place we were staying. It was about 3 p.m. so not a good time to find a place for lunch, but we saw a few tables seated in The Attic and decided to stop. There were two other tables seated and the waitress was very prompt and attentive. I am trying to get enough Atlantic fish to satisfy me before going back to the left coast. I ordered the Mahi Mahi sandwich without a bun and side of onion rings. My partner ordered the blue cheese & bacon burger (rare) with side of pasta salad. When our plates came out they were very sad looking! My plate had a piece of blackened dolphin (Mahi) and three LARGE onion rings. That's it. No plating was done. Seriously, how does a chief send a plate out that looks bare and unattractive? Really no excuse, just laziness. The waitress asked if she could get me some lettuce, tomatoes and Remoulade sauce and I said yes. My onion rings were lame! Three massive rings that were very unappealing. The onions were soggy and felt really gross in my mouth. The outside was crispy but honestly, you have to do onion rings right....small rings, light crispy batter or even onion strings would be better than these things. I left one of the onions on the plate it was too soggy to eat. My partner's plate was equally as boring. He had a bowl of pasta which was very nice tasting and a burger but no lettuce, onions, tomatoes, no ketchup/mustard/mayo came out w/ the plate. It was strange. She brought him lettuce/tomatoes and onion pieces. The burger was supposed to be rare, but it sure looked MEDIUM to us. Really sad to drop the ball even at 3 p.m. If you are too tired to cook, then close the doors between lunch and dinner. We are pretty sorry we had such a disappointing visit this time. Turned away from a nearby restaurant we decided to give The Attic a try. The decor is romantic homey and I liked the single red rose on each table. We were seated quickly at 6pm on a Friday and our server was very attentive. My mom had the special, the swai fish, and I had the pecan crusted trout. She loved her dish - my crust was a little more cooked than I would have liked but the peach sauce complemented it well. There were several other entrees on the menu that I would try. read more

I typically love chicken salad but this was just meh. My husband had the blt and he said it was pretty good. I would try this place again. We have eaten here in the past and really enjoyed it. However, our food and service Saturday night were disappointing. I won't be in a hurry to go back. We had a table of 3 and were seated right away. Very pleasant waitress who brought our drinks and took our order promptly. Then the waiting began. Watched people who came in after us get their food. Also watched other tables getting bread. We never got any or were asked if we wanted any. When our meals came out, my grilled chicken salad looked very good, nice presentation. However, once I started eating it, saw that they used bagged iceburg lettuce. WTF. Bagged lettuce salad for $9.50?? I saw diners that had side salads that had the good kind of variety lettuces. Why do they serve a crappy bagged iceburg lettuce on something that is a main dish and give the good lettuce out as a side to a meal? Clark ordered the black and bleu burger and onion rings. We had both had that previously and in the past, it was huge. I was trying to cut back a bit by getting the salad but after I saw the small, pre formed patty that came out, I didn't feel so envious. He said it was dry (he ordered it medium and it was quite well done evidenced by the amount of ketchup he used) The one bright spot was Betsy's grilled chicken hoagie. She ordered it without bell peppers. It came out right, hot and she said very good. Like I said, they've done better in the past, but I won't be in a hurry to go back. Delightful service and a great place to sit. Open later than the coffee house, I've spent the evening with a glass of wine, my laptop and their wifi. They have been most generous in simply letting me be. I've been here for lunch too and have had great service every time. I have to commend the wait staff at The Attic for helping us feed our dairy and egg-allergy son without issues. They even brought out the bag of pasta for us to read the ingredients. We enjoy eating out on the patio and have been thankful for the option to give our little man something to eat without fear of allergy issues. However, I will say that the food is just ok. The ribs are amazing and worth the price but everything else that we've had is simply ok. I would give a lower score except for the ability to eat out with our son. I've seen other reviewers talk about the wait to sit or be waited on by someone, but that hasn't been a problem for us. read more

Arrived to a dirty table and had to ask for a menu. Then sat there awhile. Once we got started our Waitress was very sweet. Even she knew the food was substandard and made a comment about it. But she did not offer to take it back to the kitchen! The food was not plated professionally and was super greasy. It tasted OLD, like it'd been sitting there. I ordered a Rueben that was soaked in grease, over-sauced with very sparse meat, and very little sauerkraut. It was SHAMEFUL. The French fries were crinkle cut frozen and lukewarm and I specifically asked first if they were crinkle cut beforehand. The bun on my husbands burger was ROCK hard and I mean ROCK hard. Husband chose the home chips and they were OVER COOKED and dark brown, lukewarm. Food was plated by what looked like a 5 year old. Cook must have been having a super bad day.... no love in the food. Yawl NEED A NEW COOK, one who cares. That Chef and the Staff represent you ATTIC. I WASTED $36. The tea was not sweet and rather watery. GOOD THING was the freaking Bloody Mary that our Waitress made for us. The Bloody Mary ROCKED. Sad to say we don't ever return where food is bad the first time , we just move on. read more

This place used to be incredible. The atmosphere is still cool but the food is terrible. The salads used to be huge and excellent with great lettuce. Now all the ingredients are purchased at H Mart. If you have been to H Mart you know they have excellent produce available but they purchase cheap iceberg. Go somewhere else. Try Tiny's or Copper Pot instead... read more

Went for dinner on Saturday (last weekend), and the food was DELICIOUS. I ordered the buffalo chicken tender appetizer and fries, and my son got the kid's three-cheese baked pasta with fries. A friend went with us and ordered the chicken tenders and onion rings. All of our food was great, and there were plentiful servings. The cheesecake (plain) was DIVINE. Seriously. We thought we would share one piece between the three of us, and we probably should have gotten two slices. I think our waitress got a little frustrated with us because we asked about bread, but we weren't being impatient - in fact, we were willing to pay for it - we just wanted to know if it was something that came with the meal or not, since we ordered appetizers instead of entrees (we weren't charged extra, for those of you who wondered). It took a long time to get our drink order taken, and then about ten minutes went by before our waitress came back to take our order. The menu specifies that you should allow up to 30 minutes to get your food, and ours didn't take nearly that long (probably because we ordered food with minimal prep time). I'm glad the warning was on the menu, though - not for my sake, but I like to see a restaurant that takes pride in their food enough to say, "Hey, we make this stuff as you order it with fresh ingredients, so cut us some slack here." The interior of the restaurant has an industrial feel with a bit of shabby/Italian charm. Each table has a table cloth covered with a thick brown butcher-style paper that makes for an easy clean-up and quick table turnover, so we were able to be seated pretty quickly. I ordered the 14 lbs NY strip at $26 a plate. I expected a thick cut of meat, instead I got a 1/2" thick steak. It was not cooked to perfection and it was too "herby". My wife got the meatloaf and she said it was alright. My daughters enjoyed the chicken fingers and cheese sticks. One got the hamburger which was really good. Be prepared to pay a high price when you visit and I truly hope your food is better than what I had. I gave a 3 star instead of 2 since my picky daughters had better food. read more

My husband and I stopped here on our way to Tallulah Gorge. I'm a little bit of a food snob but this place seemed unique based on other yelp reviews. I was a little disappointed. I got a buffalo wrap with sweet potato fries and my husband got the California wrap with regular fries. The menu wasn't too exciting. The food was nothing to write home about. The server was nice and the food came out in a timely fashion. If you want a regular ol meal, then this place is good. If you want something unique this isn't the place. read more
