Recently in the area helping my daughter move into Mac U and found this nearby restaurant for lunch. After reading some reviews, I almost changed my mind from coming. We were quite impressed with the food here...it's actually very authentic northern style Chinese food. If you are not familiar with the food in this region, I can see why some people had negative comments. My advice to you if you are not familiar with some of their menu items, order the fried rice/noodles and fried dumplings and not items like chicken with ginger & scallion sauce. The latter dish is actually a popular Chinese chicken dish that is not commonly offered in Chinese westernized restaurants. I did see a photo of this dish on google soaking in oil which doesn't look too appealing so I would request for the ginger onion oil sauce on the side (maybe it's prepared in Northern style?). I will definitely try it on my next visit. We got the shrimp fried rice and beef brisket udon in beef bone soup. Both dishes were good and I was surprised that there were quite a few large shrimps in the rice. The soup base was a bit bland but the beef brisket was tender and flavourful. Highly recommend this dish if you are looking for comfort food. Make sure you ask for their chilli sauce which is great for the beef brisket! My favourite dish was #519 fried tofu...this was perfectly done and I requested the sauce to be on the side. The best way to eat fried tofu is to dip the hot crispy tofu with a bit of the sauce! The pan fried dumplings were only okay but they did serve it well with vinegar sauce! I will definitely be coming back on my visits to MAC U. read more

Love this place. Always get the ramen with chicken cutlets and the soy eggs are amazing. Only thing im not a fan of are the chopsticks because there are smooth metal and Its a tough time holding the noodles without them slipping off. I recommend asking for the takeout (wooden) chopsticks instead as it is less frustrating. read more

Yum! Best noodle soup I've had in a long time. Easy to make your own customized soup or noodle dish with paper checkbox sheet. Appetizers and drinks are listed on the opposite side - it's about as easy as it gets. I had the spicy broth with Shanghai noodles, pork chop and Enoki mushrooms. My husband ordered the original broth with beef and Shanghai noodles. Both our dishes came with Bok Choy, green onions and I ordered mine with cilantro. My husbands needed an extra kick so he added chili oil and a bit of soy sauce. Mine, the spicy one, was especially delicious. We also ordered scallion pancakes, pan seared dumplings and Chinese cucumber salad to start. I'm so glad we ordered the cucumber- it was so tasty and helped cool our mouths from the spicy soups. It was covered in garlic chucks and marinated in sesame soy mix. Delicious! My new favorite food as a garlic lover this is a game changing complement to spicy dishes. It was a little spicy from the garlic and a bit of peppers on its own, but was a great side dish that enhanced all others. Yum! We were also pleased we ordered both the scallion pancakes (which were a little greasy) and the dumplings. The soy sauce the dumplings came was citrusy and made the dumplings even tastier. We ate like royalty for $46. It was helpful on the budget end that they don't serve alcohol so we stuck with water and saved our money for dessert. There just so happens to be a frozen yogurt place next door called Yogurty's! Perfect cool off after the meal. New go-to date night spot. read more

Dog food... we got several items (scallion ginger chicken) served in 2 minutes.. looked like boiled chicken covered in puke.. it was cold and my girl wouldn't try it.. terrible.. Also got 2 orders of spring rolls, which were sooo bad.. I didn't know you could mess up spring rolls. The only hot item we got was the noodles, which were decent, but very lacking on meat. I left feeling ripped off and sick. Water cup was dirty, noodle dish had hair in it... the one staff member was super nice but eluded to the fact that the dish we ordered was being taken off the menu next week and was unpopular...?? Went here again with some friends and got the Sweet & Sour fish bento and the scallion pancake! Both were pretty good, and the bento portion was quite large! The scallion pancake was smaller & thinner than i thought it'd be though. read more

We stopped for a quick lunch with no knowledge of the restaurant. We were seated right away and did not wait long for service and the food came out very quickly as well. There is an option to build your own soup based noodles or something off the regular menu. We chose the regular dishes. Everything was fresh and tasty and we all enjoyed our dishes. There are not a lot of hearty food options around McMaster so when I saw that a noodle house was opening right across from the McMaster campus on Main St. W, I was very excited. As an asian who misses her noodles, this was a great addition to the already growing number of food places around campus offering alternatives to expensive cafeteria food. Overall the Arch Noodle House provides a decent simple bowl of noodles. The broth is nice and light but also flavourful and the toppings are plentiful. I would describe the style as more of a Northern Chinese flavour. I ordered the noodles with BBQ pork. I feel like the portion was moderate: not as large as you would get at a pho place but also not tiny. The pricing was okay - between $12-$15/bowl. There are also a few simple appetizers on the menu but its pretty pared down - mostly focusing on the noodles. One word of warning BEWARE of spicyness. There is an option to have your noodles spicy and I mean SPICY. I accidentally did this and had to order extra broth to drown out the spicy oils. My friend couldn't even finish his bowl because of the spicyness. Not a dealbreaker for me but just be aware of this fact. This place honestly isn't that bad given the limited asian noodle options in Hamilton, but it isn't the greatest compared to the rest of the GTA. Loved the interior design of the space - it was nice and bright and airy with clean lines, and had a really cool textured wall behind the counter. My party ordered three different dishes - I loved how you could customize your order, but i didn't like how the individual order sheets weren't so environmentally friendly. ORDER #1 - Malay laksa noodle soup with shanghai noodles and pork belly. The broth IS NOT the same as a malaysian laksa broth. It looked like a clear bone broth pumped up with chili oil and NO coconut milk. I was a bit disappointed in the broth but if you don't look at it as a laksa broth and more of a ramen-like broth, it ends up being pretty good with lots of flavour. Shanghai noodles tasted like ordinary shanghai noodles, but I don't think they belong in a soup. Pork belly was cooked well, but it was cut up into small pieces instead of remaining in the nice long slabs they're cut in. ORDER #2 - Malay laksa noodle soup with rice noodles and fish fillet. See above for a description of the broth. The noodles were cooked well - slightly chewy but slurps up well with the soup. They give you a lot as well - enough to be a part of each spoonful of broth. Fish fillet was disappointing - I didn't realize these would be breaded fish cutlets. The breading gets very soggy and there ends up being more batter than fish. ORDER #3 - 1 item bento box containing not spicy kung pao chicken. This was quite a good dish! This dish is normally spicy, but we wrote "not spicy" next to this item on the order sheet and were quite happy they were able to complete this request. Rice was cooked well and came on the side in a bowl. Love how they added a generous portion of stir fried broccoli to the dish, and the chicken itself was nice and tender. Would recommend this dish! Overall, this place is decent if you overlook the small details. I'll be back if i'm craving something hot and asian and if I'm in the area. read more

Great noodle bowl! I had the braised pork belly in the malay laksa (coconut milk and red curry) broth with vermicelli noodles. A good amount of spice without being spicy. In case you're not sure what pork belly is, it does involve a thin layer of gristle on each piece of meat so if you're not good with that then maybe try the braised beef brisket, which is also really good. I got the extra portion of noodles (extra $1.50) - be careful with this option as this gives you a TONNE of noodles. I'm a big guy and I rolled out of there with a 'what have I done?' feeling of regret as my stomach complained about the huge mass of noodles I had just forced into it. read more

This is probably the best noodle house in town. The service is fast and the food quality is excellent. We ordered the beef noodle soup and the chicken cold noodles, along with some appetizers. The broth is flavourful and noodles are fresh. They are also very generous with the portion size. I couldn't even finish the whole bowl even when I was starving the whole day. The price is reasonable. The location is very convenient. Highly recommend. I will be a regular for sure. read more

We tried this noodle house when my family went to visit some friends today. The restaurant was spacious and pretty well design wall paint. The service was pretty quick, we got seated as soon as we walked into this place. We ordered two red braised brisket beef noodles, regular beef noodles and some other side dishes. I'm not gonna lie...the red brisket beef noodles were AMAZING!!!they were probably the BEST brisket beef noodles I've ever tried!! They were tender and flavourful.As for quantity, were large,filling and delicious. They were more than enough for me but just enough for my husband to finish. He's a heavy eater. Hot noodles with soup is always a great meal in a cold day. Overall the is food great with reasonable priced. I would love to come back again to try some other bowls and dishes. read more

Got the Sichuan soup base, flavour is not too strong but kept me slurping noodles until there was none left. Plenty of noodles, portion was really good value for $10. Regret getting the chasiu, it's wasn't good, I don't enjoy fatty meat. Pan cake was great, but really greasy. Fishcake was good. Not a fan of the dumplings, I prefer mine really crispy and a bit on the darker side for more flavour. Definitely a four star, but not give because there are better hand pulled noodle places back in Toronto. read more

There are limited options for Chinese food near Mac so I was excited to see the pop-up of a new noodle place across from campus. We decided to try it last week and had the beef noodle soup along with the boneless chicken w/ ginger & scallions. The plate of shredded chicken was fragrant but way too salty on its own; we had to order a bowl of rice to neutralize the saltiness. The beef noodle soup barely had any depth of bone broth and was heavily flavored with msg. Beef slices were average and the noodles had a slight chew to it but could be a lot more springy in texture; it's as though they were left in the broth for too long. I visited this restaurant with moderate expectations hoping to find a refreshing new joint in Hamilton offering quality noodles. However their service was suboptimal and it was very obvious from the beginning that their staff did not care about their restaurant. First, they forgot to give me a side dish I ordered but still remembered to charge me for it. Second, the noodles were clearly not hand made which is a small flaw. The staff were also just chatting on the side clearly not taking their job seriously and made the entire atmosphere not positive. The noodle sauce also did not taste authentic and tasted very salty.
