First time visiting Angry Jerk, it was easy to spot on the road. The restaurant itself is nice clean and has a chill vibe.But it lacks Customer service. I went on a Monday around 11:30, the young man that worked there had his AirPods in his ear, barely wanted to answer any of my questions. I must have caught them on a bad day - last Saturday. First off, they're a Caribbean restaurant and they were out of Roti skin with no suggested replacement. The food looked to have been sitting all day and when my friend and I asked for fresh rice, the server did go in the back and appear to give us fresh rice, but clearly everything else had been sitting. The food had very little taste and wasn't authentic at all. The only thing I enjoyed were the plantains, which were delicious. The food is good, but what I received was more of a sample than a meal. I ordered 1/4 jerk chicken (white meat) pickled slaw, and mac-n-cheese. I received my order and was disappointed when I realized I was given a condiment sized sample of the pickled slaw, and chopped pieces of chicken, (the mac-n-cheese was fine, but was an extra $3.50 even though the meal came with 2 sides). When I order any part of the chicken, I expect to receive the whole piece of chicken, not chopped pieces. There's no need to stretch a meal when people are paying. We should all be able to identify the pieces of chicken we're eating and not have to fish out bone fragments. I guess I should've known to try another place because there were about 4 to 5 customers already waiting for their food. Ordered using the screen on the side, however people who came in an order directly from the counter were served first... after about 20 minutes, we got our order. I ordered an oxtail bowl and mac and cheese via door dash. I should've known something was wrong when the menu said bowl and not just oxtail. I am skeptical if this place is actually owned by a caribbean person because this was just really out of the norm of the culture. Dry meat, SHREDDED oxtail, coleslaw on everything (where the hell was the non coleslaw cabbage?), no peas in the rice. The bowl was dry af, saying they had no sauce. How do you make oxtail anything and be out of sauce?! My friend ordered curry chicken- no potatoes nor carrots were in the stew. The mac and cheese was the best part. Came in on a Friday night to order takeout. We came at just the right time because right after we ordered a whole lot of people came in to place orders. As we were leaving, I saw a few people sitting at a table meeting inside which I found concerning as the DC guidelines just required masks for all indoor public spaces but then again I guess this is Maryland. Order came with a not too much wait and staff was friendly and helpful. A little bummed that both myself and my guest had to pay extra to get the sides that wanted with our dishes, as they were not part of the covered sides that came with the meal. This was not indicated on the menu.. which also kept moving on the TV screens above which was a little frustrating. She got the salmon and found that it was a bit undercooked in the middle. She got the rice and said it was fine and didn't finish the mac and cheese which I think says something. I got a half jerk chicken that was interestingly chopped up into pieces which felt a little bit like a raccoon had gone through my food. The chicken itself was incredibly tasty and moist just a little perplexed that it didn't come in recognizable pieces. The yucca fries were fantastic and the staff was kind enough to give me each kind of sauce to try. The barbecue sauce was not much different from the Mambo sauce and the two creamy sauces appeared to be practically the same as well. What was most disappointing was the pickle slaw I ordered as a side which came in a tiny little cup and could be most likely described as chopped up cabbage and carrots with absolutely nothing on it. No salt no pepper, couldn't find anything that had to do with a pickle either in flavor or ingredient. No oil no vinegar found one shred of cilantro. I have been waiting to go to this restaurant for a while and although it took me a while to finally go it was well worth the wait. I ordered the quarter jerk with fried rice and tropical slaw to go. The chicken was moist and very flavorful some of the best jerk i have had. The portion size was perfect. It has this lingering flavor that had me wishing I would ordered more. The tropical slaw was nothing special but still tasty but the portion size for that seemed lacking. The only complaints i have is that I had to wait a while for someone to come and take my order. So I just recently found out about this place from a tik tok and chose to try it out due to the extremely close proximity. being a new yorker and of caribbean background, i've been dying to find a really good caribbean place, so why not see what the Angry Jerk has to offer. I had the lunch portion curry chicken, which was adequately sized and i definitely enjoyed the curry flavor more than that other place around the corner *cough cough*. i also had the jerk shrimp tacos, this is where the ratings dropped for me. the shrimp was seasoned well, but that slaw on top, could do without. To me, the flavors of the slaw didn't work well with the jerk at all, it actually overpowered everything about the jerk except the spice. Not to mention the raisins in the slaw, devastating. I do want to try this place out again as i didn't get to try the oxtail tacos, hopefully those are much better. read more

Terrible. First visit based on the hyped Yelp reviews. Friday afternoon and not busy. The surfaces needed to be cleaned. Several menu offerings were not available. The mac & cheese and the peas & rice were dried out. My curry chicken with two sides came with only two pieces of charred plantains and nothing else. I agree with one other poster, I deserve proper servings for my money. I paid $40 and got sample type servings or no servings at all in addition to the dried out food and no dessert. Complete disappointment, not indicative of Caribbean heritage. Perfect rip-off for those who are unfamiliar. How can you run Society Lounge and act like you have no idea how the restaurant business works? The Mac and cheese had a great, very sharp cheddar forward flavor, was seasoned really well, and had the tiniest bit of heat. It was a bit too salty for my taste, but it wound up being my favorite part of the meal. The oxtail was pulled, and seemed overcooked. It was kinda tough and almost dry, even though it was in a healthy amount of juice. The cabbage and the rice and peas were super bland and lacked any flavor outside of what the actual items were. The cabbage tasted like cabbage, and the rice and peas tasted like beans; nothing more. I didn't even taste salt. The coleslaw was very pleasant, and I wish I had gotten more of that instead of the cabbage. The plantains were just how I like them, soft and sweet. Once I mixed everything in the bowl up, I enjoyed it a lot more because the coleslaw was doing some heavy lifting.
