I was very impressed by the prix fixe theater menu and our fantastic waiter, Ethan. The portions are generous, and the food is so delicious that you'll want to try everything. My family and I visited before seeing August Wilson's Joe Turner's Come and Gone. The food was served at perfect intervals, and our waiter, Ethan, clearly understood the assignment making sure we weren't late for the show. It's located in the Motto by Hilton Times Square location. Servers run at their pace not yours. When you drinks do arrive, its well prepared. Go there for HH, and also if your staying at the Hilton, use your food/drink credit fully. The Alderman is tucked away almost like a speakeasy in the Motto hotel and is a perfect dining option when going to the theater. Because it's in a hotel, it offers all meals, but we opted for brunch on a Saturday before a matinee. Luz was an amazing server and gave us time to catch up before ordering. We opted to split the biscuits and then omelet and asparagus to have items that were a little bit lighter. Everything was phenomenal but if I had to choose one dish that stood out, the omelet was really special. We still had time to kill so we waited the 12 minutes for the freshly baked cookies. Wonderful bar and restaurant in Times Square area. What at first caught my eye was the bakery/coffee area, but upon further inspection saw there was a bar and restaurant as well. There's also a hotel connected to it; The Motto. The bar tender, Francis, was amazing and got us hooked on his own curated cocktail; The Rocket. The restaurant was also a surprisingly beautiful space with the most delicious Garlic Bread I've ever tasted. The manager, Isabel, was accommodating and gave great menu recommendations. Both were good when eating, but made my friend and I's stomach hurt the entire day. The food came out pretty quick and I also ordered a vanilla latte which was good. The brioche roll tasted stale and was lacking any flavor (couldn't taste any chocolate). Day two, thought we'd give them another try. Got a seasonal beer during happy hour for ($8) and a my gf got a Coca Cola ($7). The price for the bottle of Coca Cola was rather extreme. Day three of giving them another chance... We came during happy hour again. This time, I decided not to get anything but my gf got a cider ($14). Doesn't seem like a reasonable price to me. We still have a few more night here and a few more $10 credits but I think I'd rather let them go unused. Paid enough for the hotel, don't need to keep running up the bill. read more

Very cute spot, but service was lacking and food was just OK. We had a reservation and literally waited 15 minutes for someone to greet us at the host stand. There were only a few tables that were full at that time. Major issue I had with the food is there were major ingredients/sauces missing from the description written on the menu. Bolognese lasagna had a citrus salsa as a layer on top (what?!) that was not mentioned. Would have been good without it, the salsa ruined it. The flat iron steak had a sauce which was not mentioned on the menu and lastly the salmon had a different sauce than what was listed. Not sure if the chef was going rogue, but I find it unacceptable. You should be fully aware of what you will be receiving especially if someone were to have allergies It ruined it for all of us. On top of it they added a 25% gratuity. I have seen 18 or 20 but 25% is ridiculous especially considering our server was rarely around. We spent $400 here. I would not recommend this restaurant in its current state. Very disappointed. I also find it odd several of the 5 star reviews raving about the place are from reviewers with ONE review and all sound very similar. read more

For my main, I had a perfectly prepared sea bass which was outstanding and the maitake mushrooms as a side that I loved so much I'd order two of them next go around. We went for the New Year's Eve party and were told we could sit at the water table, which we enjoyed for several hours, when a strange man claimed to be the the owner and told us "to move" and when I explained that a woman who worked here said we could be here, he claimed to be the owner and threatened us with security and silenced me with his hand up in my face and turned to my boyfriend to say that I was a problem, when if the situation had been handled with respect and not sexism we would have been happy to move, instead we felt too uncomfortable to stay so we spent the countdown to new years on the subway, headed home. read more

Food is good (a few items are really good, like the trout taratare) but the service could be better. If you're looking for something easy (not necessarily quick) then it's fine. Good ambience, interesting drinks and menu items. But if you have another idea in mind, you might consider doing that instead. It's not great for bigger groups, and the majority of the staff kind of had an attitude. Toward the end of the meal, there was a girl who wasn't our server who was super friendly that we wished had served us because she was great. Maybe the staff doesn't know how to handle bigger groups. As I write this review of Alderman, I realize that I can't just write about the food, but I have to write about the whole experience. Because that's what Alderman is, it's an experience. From the food and drinks, to the service, to the ambiance, this place is a hidden gem in Time Square. I'll start with the food and drinks. I began the night at the bar with an Espresso Martini, and it was so good that I stuck with it all night. My friends got other drinks and everyone was happy with what they had. During dinner, two of my friends had wine, which the server was eager to suggest, and they were very happy with the choice. To begin our meal we had the bread basket. This is homemade bread and homemade butter, and both were delicious. There was also oil to dip the bread in, which gave all of us a choice of what we would enjoy most. We also shared the Crispy Mushrooms and Fried Sunchokes. Both were really tasty. The Sunchokes themselves literally made the trip worthwhile. We shared main courses and they were all really, really good. The Duck and the Trout were so yummy, and perfectly cooked. We also shared dessert, a pudding and a pastry, and they were an excellent ending to a wonderful meal. Now, for the service, I could not have asked for anything more. The staff was attentive and friendly. They really made us feel like they were happy we were there, and that they were happy to serve us. Finally, the ambiance. I really enjoyed the quiet, understated elegance of the restaurant. I felt comfortable while feeling like I was in a high end establishment. It was perfect. I had high hopes for this restaurant considering the stars it has received previously but unfortunately it fell short in service. I came with 3 others on the recommendation from a woman in our party. We each ordered the Prix Fixe menu because it looked tasty. The drinks we ordered were good; I had the Jasmine Spritz which was very good! Our food server changed at one point and no one told us. Our new food server had a great attitude, but she fell short on service. We had to ask several times for bread and butter and at one time she walked past us with butter, and said, "it's not for you". Then returned and said, "it was actually for you". Then the entree's came and I didn't receive mine. No one came to the table to ask if everything was going well once the entrees were brought out. As a matter of fact, it took so long to get someone to stop and address our entree shortage, that the other 3 meals got cold. One of the servers attempted to bring me a Caprese Salad which I had to turn down due to the fact I can't have tomatoes. When my entree finally made it to the table, the skirt steak did not taste like skirt steak and we all agreed on this. The sauce was spicy, and had a peppery taste. Regardless, we ate. At dessert, we were brought a sorbet with curry that left a bad, bad taste on our pallet and some type cake with crumble and fruit, also, not good. Unfortunately not a good experience. read more
