The photo ops are endless here. The lobster bake for dinner was scrumptious! The owner, Todd, has a brother who is a lobster fisherman. He caught our lobsters the morning of the wedding! The corn on the cob was so sweet and the potatoes fluffy! Todd is a wonderful host and is so welcoming. I showed up a little early so we were browsing outside. Todd came right out and introduced himself and gave us a little tour and some interesting history of how his predecessors opened the Bed and Breakfast. I would've given 5 stars but we did have some "communication" issues with Todd's wife, Karen. In all fairness to her, she did admit to me on the phone that she was only involved since Todd's Mom had passed away 2 years ago. I don't think this is her "niche" and, sadly it shows. Imo, she doesn't seem like a "people person" which caused some unnecessary stress at times. However, I do have to say she is a fantastic cook! Overall, I do recommend The Mooring Bed and Breakfast.

The elegant architecture of the house with the salt air breezes is so conducive to falling asleep to the sound of the ocean is soothing. The outside grounds have many sitting areas to find a place to sit and read or have conversations. The front yard slopes down to Mirror Lake with excellent fresh water, swimming. We had our in laws with us, so 4 of us in total stayed comfortably in the cottage. It was the perfect get away! We had a large deck that overlooked the bay with BBQ grill which we used every night. The kitchen was stocked with dishes, pots, pans, and utensils. We ordered lobsters from Inn owners one night and regretted waiting so long to do so. Jane will steam them and deliver them right to your room. The lobsters were excellent! And I have to say that they tasted even better than those we've had in restaurants. We rented their boat one day and took it out to Bailey Island. We were able to dock it at Morse's for some lunch. We borrowed kayaks another day. We can't wait to go back!

How fortunate for us that it was the last night Topside was hosting guests for the season, since the municipality shuts the public water supply off in October. Yikes! The accommodations are charming and every staff member we encountered treated us wonderfully. I wish I could remember the name of the lovely woman who welcomed us when we arrived. Greg served us local beers at the bar, and Mark and Buzz (and family - Mom and Dad?), invited all guests to enjoy the last night of the season with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. Fall in Boothbay is soothing. We so hope to make this an annual trip to Topside for the last weekend of the season. Even in fall, the botanical gardens are amazing!

There is a wonderful side parking lot to accommodate several guest cars - it might be a smidgen tight for big vehicles like trucks but there is also street parking nearby! Jackie helped us to our room during check in and gave some helpful tips and requests to make our stay so comfy. The Garden room was beautifully decorated and including a relaxing full sized tub. Although rainy during our visit, it is closest to the outdoor patio space to enjoy! After sharing about the room, Jackie gave us some amazing recommendations for restaurants and things to do that we very much used throughout our time in the greater Bath area! Jackie's breakfast was hearty, delicious, and locally sourced - the breakfast frittata and potatoes were so yummy! She respectfully tries to seat groups throughout the morning so that no one is crowded - allowing you to meet fellow travelers or keep to yourself as fits your morning preferences. She also gave us more suggestions for our 2nd day of adventures and again they did not disappoint! She left us a very yummy takeaway breakfast for our last morning as sadly we had to depart for our flight before breakfast. It was absolutely beautiful. I can only imagine how beautiful it is during the summer when all of the flowers are in bloom. Bob is a wonderful host and chef! I wish I'd gotten pictures of Saturday's breakfast! It was absolutely delicious. We had buttermilk panna cotta with strawberries and French Toast with bacon. Absolutely delicious! This is absolutely a perfect spot for a quiet retreat.

The property is gorgeous and the inn is comfortable and beautifully maintained. Innkeeper Bob Doucette starts your day off right with a variety of delicious homemade breakfasts, and coffee and tea are always available to take onto the porch or down towards the water to relax. Local restaurants keep you well fed and watered in between other adventures. Bob provides excellent recommendations for both local and not-so-local places. My only regret is that we weren't able to stay longe (and that I'm not a very good photographer, my photos don't begin to do it justice)!
