Strongly recommended, probably the finest location in Boothbay for a view of their harbor! Mary and Rebekah and staff were all consummate professionals, welcoming us with a cocktail (and customizing one for my my wife on the spot!), and even upgrading us to a beautiful, clean, comfortable suite. Their place is spotless, and they served up a lovely breakfast each day with lovely choices. They were focused on our comfort from start to finish. Very highly recommended. Having to cut our visit short because of a puppy back home feeling under the weather, they were very accommodating. Their location is close to so many attractions that we could walk to just about everything... restaurants, sailing options (more on that in another posting!), and shopping options for just about everything. The most perfect of stays at Topside Inn. I was reluctant to travel during Covid-19 but Topside has gone above and beyond to make you feel safe. Our room was spotless. We stayed in Room 17. Great view. I enjoyed sitting outside on the couch and watching the sun set. Rebeka was wonderful with check in and answering our questions during our stay. Get ready for an amazing breakfast! Buzz is an excellent chef! Great with accommodating dietary issues. Due to Covid our breakfast was delivered to our room. Packaged nicely. I actually prefer eating in our room. Mark was helpful with dinner reservations. The property is beautiful. Very short walk into town. Can't wait to return! We're already booked! read more

We needed a getaway! After so many friend's visited and raved about the amazing sculptures at the Botanical Gardens, we looked specifically for an inn in Boothbay Harbor...on Friday for Saturday night. How fortunate for us that it was the last night Topside was hosting guests for the season, since the municipality shuts the public water supply off in October. Yikes! The accommodations are charming and every staff member we encountered treated us wonderfully. I wish I could remember the name of the lovely woman who welcomed us when we arrived. Greg served us local beers at the bar, and Mark and Buzz (and family - Mom and Dad?), invited all guests to enjoy the last night of the season with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. Fall in Boothbay is soothing. We so hope to make this an annual trip to Topside for the last weekend of the season. Even in fall, the botanical gardens are amazing! read more

We had a lovely stay at The Topside Inn. Stayed here a few days before picking up our child from a nearby resident summer camp. Beautiful location and just a short walk to town ..(one of the last towns on earth that you can leave your car unlocked). We stayed in a newly renovated room.. very pretty , fridge came fully stocked with craft beers and nonalcoholic drinks. Staff and owners were super friendly and went out of their way to make sure you were comfortable. Breakfast was amazing.. Huevos Rancheros, waffles, pastries all made from scratch as well as a good selection of gourmet coffee and teas. Menu changed daily. We couldn't wait to wake up and see what's for breakfast! Rebecca at the front desk was very helpful with dinner reservations and arranged for a roll away to come in for our child who stayed with us the last night. Christine the bartender was a rockstar with her craft cocktails and was an excellent host. So thankful to have found this place and we can't wait to return. read more

Fabulous location overlooking the bay, literally a short walk, albeit steep, to towns center. Beyond the location, it's the staff that is both attentive and invisible. On arrival, rather than take your credit card and ID, you're invited to sit, chat and learn about your stay and what's available to explore shop or dine in Boothbay. All this while sipping a house inspired beverage and a tasty morsel from the kitchen. Breakfast is legendary, would prefer it lasted until 10, but crawl out and serve your lover in bed. Will not, EVER, plan a trip to Boothbay without checking availability at the Topside first. Might even call and plan my trip around their availability, it was that special. read more

Where to even begin....I should start by saying that 5 stars doesn't do this magical gem enough justice. We absolutely love it here. It's heaven on earth. Truly. This is our 2nd trip to Topside....the last trip we did here was in 2019 and happened to be our last trip before COVID. For our first vacation since the start of COVID, Topside was the FIRST place we wanted to return "home away from home" to. Buzz and Mark are amazing innkeepers. They think of all of the special details....and Rebekah is their right hand gal. The inn comes awake when Rebekah is in the room. She brings light, life, conviviality, wonderful recommendations, and many other special treats....a Prosecco as you are greeted at the front door to a tour around the home, daily plated afternoon and evening cookies as well as many available snacks and sitting areas with which to enjoy them and each other's company. Buzz and Mark have created a home and its guest rooms that are pristine, bright, and just simply elegantly comfortable. Additionally they've converted one of their guest rooms to the most gorgeous bar with some incredibly tasty fall inspired cocktails this season. Social distancing is very comfortable but we also so enjoyed chatting with the few other guests around the property. We stayed for 3 nights and Topside was at full capacity the entire time but you would have never known it. It felt open and airy all around the property. And finally....the breakfasts. There are no words. This experience is not to be missed. Do yourself justice and experience this place. We can't wait to get back next year. Rebekah, we'll be in touch! When staying in Boothbay Harbor this is the only place you should consider. They are without a doubt the best. Located at the top of a hill the inn provides stunning views and cool harbor breezes. We were greeted by Buzz who has a wealth of information about things to do and places to eat. The inn itself has great charm and provides everything you could need for a wonderful stay. We arrived right when the hot cookies came out. Hot chocolate cookie with peanut butter chips! Yum! Be sure to make it a point to hit the lobby around 3pm to enjoy these tasty treats! They have an ice machine with large buckets, there are smaller buckets in your room. They have a basket with snacks to grab on the go with pretzels, cheez-it's, breakfast bars, trail mix, etc. There is a beverage station with a Keurig coffee maker, an electric kettle for tea and hot chocolate and a hot and cold filtered water dispenser perfect for water on the go. Our room was number 23 and we could not ask for a better view. The A/C never had to cut on since we had fresh summer breezes blowing through the room. The deck had two chairs and a table and each deck had a divider which gave you some privacy. The bed was very comfortable with quality linens. They have smart TVs so you can watch your favorite Netflix or Hulu shows. Their regular tv has an extensive on demand selection as well. The bathroom has quality products and their own homemade soap. Large shower head with excellent pressure! Onto the breakfasts which are amazing! Prepared and plated like a gourmet restaurant. On days they are preparing a sweet dish they offer delicious deviled eggs with a twist. One day offered blue cheese and bacon another lobster and caviar. On savory days they offer a sweet bread like Zucchini bread. Be sure to try their homemade butters! My wife wanted to steal the honey walnut butter! We enjoyed Cajun shrimp lobster and grits, sweet potato waffles and granola pancakes. All were very tasty! This place is tops in all categories! A must stay! read more

The Topside Inn is about as perfect as an inn can be. Mark and Buzz are so welcoming and relaxed, you feel like you are staying with friends. Every detail of the main house is beautiful and perfectly appointed. Mark kindly upgraded us to a better (higher up) room, and then offered us an even better one with a King bed. The ocean view from our little window seat was amazing. There was a cozy little sitting area outside our door, also with a stunning ocean view. Although it was a hot day (for Maine), the ocean breeze was so strong up there on the 3rd floor, I had to pull the windows almost closed at night. It was lovely to fall asleep to ocean breezes. I am so glad we chose to enjoy a bottle of French wine (for a very nominal fee) on the porch after checking in, taking in the gorgeous view of the busy harbor, islands, pine trees on distant shores, boats coming and going. Deviled eggs topped with caviar for breakfast? Impressive. The gourmet entree was amazing - some kind of delicious caramel maple french toast with sausage, and a very fresh fruit salad. The common areas of the inn are numerous and had that old sea captains house feel, but modernized and trendy, which I love. The decor of the inn is upscale, subtly nautical - none of that Gramma's house vibe a lot of B and B's insist on. (WHY?) There are piles of books everywhere, including tons of Maine travel guides, which I regretted not having time to peruse. Topside Inn is truly a destination inn. We did not want to leave. TIP: Don't miss the wonderful Coastal Botanic Gardens in nearby Boothbay - you can buy discounted tickets at the front desk from the innkeepers. A little Slice of heaven. I have stayed in many Inns all across the country , and this one ranks up there as one of THE best places I've been to. Talk about owner loyalty Buzz and Mark the new owners did their homework and remembered my last visit 8 years ago down to the last details of which rooms we were in. Since then they've completely remodeled most of the rooms in the inn. I was fortunate enough to be upgraded to what was previously the owners Suite! With vaulted ceilings, full kitchen with granite countertop, a working electric fireplace, a deep bathtub, and a full size Amazon Alexa playing soft classical music upon entrance and even an umbrella outside the front door this had to be one of the most enjoyable and friendly accommodations I've had in recent memory. My stay was capped off with a fantastic Chef prepared breakfast of chocolate ricotta pancakes and the crispiest bacon I've ever had. Even the coffee cups we're warmed ahead of time. Spent my one year anniversary here and will be coming back again. The location was gorgeous with a breathtaking view of the harbor. The Innkeepers, Brian and Ed were wonderful. They supplied us with maps of Boothbay, directions to anywhere we wanted to go, gave us recommendations on where to eat (even which floor in the restaurant had the best views) and, when we ran into them during dinner, they came up to say hello. (They also baked the most delicious key lime cookies as an afternoon snack!) The rooms are clean and comfortable. I loved the decor and enjoyed one of the best night's sleep I've had in a while. Breakfast was incredible, with bowls of fruit, pancakes and granola that I've been talking about for weeks. (Seriously, I want the recipe.) They even had non-dairy milk! I am sort of obsessed with hotel and restaurant selections. Now that I'm a parent, I so infrequently get to enjoy travel and dinners out that when I do, I want to ensure the best experience possible. So I'm a review addict. There, I said it. Cat's out of the bag. So when the hubby and I decided to plan our first post-baby getaway (sans child), the location and venue were more important than ever. After 2 weeks of researching every facet of Maine, I landed on the Topside Inn. While hubs and I both love the hospitality and attentiveness of a B&B, we're often turned off by the overstuffed, antique-ified aesthetic most B&Bs hang their hats on. So finding a modern, cozy inn (in a reasonable price range) was a task. But the online pics of Topside Inn reeled me in with the nautical, cottage-like charm and clean, modern touches. It definitely delivered. Brian and Ed make the consummate hosts, finding the perfect balance of being just gracious enough and not overbearing. The breakfasts were heaven. Homemade granola every morning with muffins, fresh fruit and a special hot dish - the days we were there we had an amazing eggs benedict, green eggs and ham and orange pancakes. Delish. Every evening there were homemade cookies out, with tea, snacks, etc... Rocking chair front porch, adirondacks in the yard...plenty of spots to curl up and read or enjoy the harbor views. At Brian and Ed's suggestion we ate at the Boathouse Bistro one night and had an amazing meal (the lobster risotto is heaven). Avoid the lobster and corn creme brulee though - it tastes as weird as it sounds. The town of Boothbay is super cute and walkable from the Inn (just a short hill walk away). We stayed in Room 6 which has a great window seat overlooking the harbor and the yard. Really great choice - we both slept like logs, which is totally unusual for us! All in all, it was EXACTLY the recharge we needed, in a perfect setting. I'll definitely recommend Topside (already have), and hopefully can manage another getaway next summer (pre-Labor Day) when there are still loads of boats bobbling in the harbor. read more

This is a quaint, cute, and clean bed and breakfast inn- in a beautiful harbor town in Maine. From the inn, there are beautiful views of the harbor. On the lawn out front, you can sit on little white lawn chairs, and just watch the boats go by. There is a wrap around front porch, with plenty of cute rocking chairs to just sit and relax. I happened to come at a great time of the year, and the weather was amazing. The room I stayed in was clean, neat, and tastefully decorated. I was a bit worried about staying in a B&B- but this one was great. The bathroom was spacious and modern. They had wonderful breakfasts- fresh fruit, a vegetarian fritatta, granola and yogurt, etc. Also, in the afternoon they made fresh chocolate chip cookies. From what I gather, the bed and breakfast inns here in Boothbay are much nicer than the hotel/motels. I usually like staying in hotels... you know, room service, movies on demand and so forth. However, this inn was perfect for a weekend in the small and adorable town of Boothbay. read more

The Topside Inn has been our annual romantic get away for 4 years now. It was every time a wonderful experience. The Inn is located in a short walking distance from Boothbay Harbor downtown on the top of the hill that opens a gorgeous view to the ocean and the area. Just sitting on the balcony or the fron of the Inn is relaxing and beautiful time spending. The owners were always very friendly and helpful and just plane plesant to chat with and also they make an amazing, delicious breakfast that is included in the price of the stay. This is a phenomenal B&B with phenomenal breakfast and a phenomenal view. We stayed in Room 9, which we thought was probably the best room on the property: gorgeous harbor views, no stairs, and it's a corner/end room so lots of windows and breeze. The room was really clean, and you get maid service everyday (maybe that's normal? it's our first B&B experience). The owners are great: always present, very helpful and informative, and great hosts. The porch area is beautiful for breakfast, and they're very attentive. The yogurt and granola is SO GOOD (they'll give you the recipe) and there's always fruit, baked goods, and something hot. Most days we were good till dinner. The location is awesome: top of the hill with a great view of the harbor, less than a 5 minute walk to the little town, and on the busier side of the harbor and footbridge. My only complaint (that is more of an FYI, since it's not the Inn's fault): we had fairly quiet fellow guests until our last night, so I didn't notice or think about it. There is a note in the room about being considerate to fellow guests because noise travels so much...and with noisier guests who just 'moved in' above, YIKES. If your windows and doors are open, like they probably will be, and other guests are sitting on their porch inches from your door and not talking quietly, it sounds like they're in your room talking to you. Just glad they came on our last day. read more

Example: binoculars for guests to gaze out onto the harbor with, several umbrellas for rainy days, a wide range of excellent reading material, etc. Breakfasts were amazing. Each day there is a sweet or savory entree, plus yogurt and granola, fresh fruit, and delicious breads. This inn is beautiful! Located right in the middle of town, it is easy to get to, and conveniently accessible to all restaurants and stores. The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming, helping out in any way they can. The rooms are immaculate, clean and comfortable. The lawn has a great view, overlooking the harbor, which makes it perfect for enjoying appetizers and BYOB wine/beer. The breakfast was just as good as the inn's location. We had homemade granola, fresh fruit and an egg dish - two poached eggs, over veggie hash with herb chicken sausage. The kitchen is stocked with complimentary drinks, coffee, nuts and snacks for anytime of the day. They even have almond milk for the coffee. Love this place! Very romantic. read more
