How fortunate for us that it was the last night Topside was hosting guests for the season, since the municipality shuts the public water supply off in October. Yikes! The accommodations are charming and every staff member we encountered treated us wonderfully. I wish I could remember the name of the lovely woman who welcomed us when we arrived. Greg served us local beers at the bar, and Mark and Buzz (and family - Mom and Dad?), invited all guests to enjoy the last night of the season with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. Fall in Boothbay is soothing. We so hope to make this an annual trip to Topside for the last weekend of the season. Even in fall, the botanical gardens are amazing!

No bottled water in the room No bathrobes Only 1 small trash can in the bathroom Ask if your room must be accessed by 2 or 3 flights of stairs. Luggage transfer somewhat difficult. Very limited electrical outlets for charging multiple devices. Limited, tight parking spaces. Don't be late for the 8:30 AM (sharp) breakfast or it may be cold or gone.

The property has two buildings that are directly across the street from the tugboat restaurant and water, each building has common living areas including kitchens and living rooms and there are plenty of porches to overlook the water. The Admiral's Quarters building is closer to the water. The Inn has recently been renovated and it feels fresh, but there are a few spots that could still use a bit of a touch up. It's happening, but it appears that the innkeeper is doing a lot himself.

We had a lovely room that included a kitchen, utensils, sink, kitchen table, couch, AC unit, bathroom, closets, etc. everything was perfectly clean and well take care of and we had an abundance of fresh towels at all times. The room was even stocked with fresh cream, milk, coffee and tea....the best part is the view - OMG!!! The bed and breakfast is situated directly overlooking the most gorgeous view of the water. We spent HOURS sitting in the enclosed porch just reading and relaxing and breathing in the ocean air. It was our favorite part. Upon arrival, there were fresh flowers in our room. The next morning, we were surprised at how fresh and delicious the breakfast quiche, fruit, smoothies and muffins were - the ultimate hospitality comfort! The owners are very sweet, warm, accommodating and friendly. We loved conversing with them and meeting their adorable dog. We laid out in the hammock and walked down the street to ports pizzeria, which was incredible. It's so close to town and has everything you need and that classic, antique, quaint home ocean feel we all dream of when we think of the perfect bed and breakfast. Don't hesitate, just book. This place is going to be somewhere I go for the rest of my life to relax, if they're open for the next few years. A very, very special place to getaway and relax, indeed.

Our first floor room was small but had an en suite bath along with a sitting nook with a lovely view of the harbor. Breakfasts were amazing and just the right way to start the day. We loved the shops in Boothbay better than anything we saw in Bar Harbor. Quality merchandise. Porch was relaxing with its view of the harbor, and we were directed to a lovely shore walking path a few minutes away. Ports of Italy, Harborside 1901, and Harbor Treats are not to be missed. Captain Sawyer's is just a few minutes from the amazing Coastal Maine Botanical Garden.
