Continental breakfast was good and we loved the set up of the dining area and having access to snacks 24/7. Thank you for the great ambiance and hospitality. We plan on returning! We were a little worried by some of the reviews, but we've had far noisier experiences in those typical long huge hotel hall ways with the throngs of people walking through, getting ice and elevators. Street noise nothing. Even if the windows had been open the noise was just normal. Unless you need to bed yourself in a complete vacuum don't let the negatives count this room out.

None of which exists, not found despite our extensive exploration of the Premises. No piano, not common sitting area. Instead, a narrow, steep staircase with a curve making it impossibly difficult for us to carry luggage up this flight of stairs. Let's also start with our call at 2pm on the day of our arrival. A courtesy call to advise them of our arrival time. The phone rings, and after several rings, a voice answers. Not with "good afternoon, Percy Inn" not with "hello" or not with "hi this is the Percy Inn", but simply with a bothered "I'm listening". That's all. Huh? Ok. We arrive. No one there. No one answers the doorbell. No one greets you. A guest happens to open the door. Lets us inside. There's an envelope on a desk with my name and instructions on where the room is and a few policy notes. We carry our luggage up a 20-step narrow curved staircase to our room. The next morning we wake early and go into the adjacent breakfast room. A gentleman walks in carrying a tray. No "hello", no "good morning", just a pissed off "coffee isn't ready" clearly annoyed by our presence. Once breakfast is ready we discover there is no cooked meal. Just a simple continental breakfast with hard bagels, Raisin Bran and yesterday's leftover pie. We finish eating and a different gentleman (clearly the owner) comes into the breakfast area. No hello. No "how was your evening?" No head nod. Nothing. We grab our suitcases, and as we are heading downstairs, he calls out to us with "I'll be right down to check you out". A lesson in how NOT to run a Bed & Breakfast. One star for location. Zero stars for everything else.

Seven couples stayed here and all were so happy with the choice of inns for our reunion. The only downside was the tiny bathroom. Bathroom was very clean though and there were so many pluses that this was not a big deal to anyone in our party. The staff and service were excellent from the daily room cleaning to the provision of indoor and outdoor gathering spaces. Most of our group are in good shape and we loved the daily walks across the nearby footbridge into the town center. One or two couples would drive into town and had no trouble finding cheap parking. Stayed five nights and were pleased with the value and rooms (not fancy or modern but cozy and comfortable). If we visit Boothbay again we'll stay at Brown's again!

I've always been an "old soul" in some cases. When I lived in Boston during my college years, I…read morewould feel the need to escape to serenity by myself. Sometimes I'd drive to Vermont, sometimes Maine, sometimes New Hampshire or the rural parts of Massachusetts. When I do choose Maine, I would choose this place to come to. It's very quiet and peaceful, especially during the Fall when all the kids are back in school. This Inn may be a bit too "quiet" or too "old fashioned" for some, but I love it and it gives me time to reflect, do some hiking, sit on the porch of my suite and read, do some minor cooking inside, go to the pool, or enjoy a meal or two at the restaurant onsite. The service here is impeccable every time. I love how there's always someone ready to pick me up from the ferry with a golf cart and driving through this beautiful, scenic oasis, away from the hustle and bustle of Portland or any major city, for that matter. I came back to this piece of heaven this past October and I was not disappointed. Years later, and it's still a sanctuary for me to escape to.

Everything was clean, spacious, and they included extra pillows, a blanket, 2 robes, and extra towels. There was a mini-frig, Keurig Coffee maker, and 2 bottled waters. The room was updated, and had Quartz countertops in the bathroom, kitchenette, on the TV cabinet, dresser, and end tables. The staff were friendly and helpful. Free parking, a nice restaurant onsite. Great location, next to Bowdoin College, which has a gorgeous campus. The only suggestion I have for such a nice hotel is to include a magnifying make-up mirror in the bathroom, which would be helpful for those of us with poor eyesight and/or for those that are shorter and can't get close up to the mirror over the vanity. I realize this is a First-world problem. We would highly recommend this hotel, and we were sad we only booked it for one night, on our way back to Boston.

So that is four. That leaves a pull out sofa in the main room. AND there is only ONE BATHROOM. The main bedroom bed did not have a frame. In fact, none of the beds had bed frames and there is no art on any of the walls, so the pictures on the website are not accurate. The closet door was completely missing in one bedroom. There was a nasty red stain on the carpet in the big bedroom. There was a broken tie rack in one closet. The kitchen looks like it was last renovated in the late 1980s. The rear entrance does not lock securely, the back door has a note on it on how to lift the handle to get the bolt to lock. The kitchen had a table with only two chairs. So you and your guests will not be eating together. There were three other mismatched chairs scattered around the unit, and none of those were the right height for the kitchen table. In the living room there was a dehumidifier grinding along. There seems to be a drainage issue with the whole complex. The front window by the front door was missing a curtain. Another curtain wasn't hung properly. Neither television worked properly, as the internet connection kept glitching. There was a scarred desk in the living room. The showerhead in the one bathroom needs to be replaced. I did not find this townhouse adequate for adults. I give three stars because of the building and grounds, very pretty, and within walking distance to downtown.

What else can you ask for? Jay, the owner of the establishment, was an absolute delight! He and his family really make this inn feel as if you're staying at your favorite cousin's house as opposed to a hotel. You can enjoy coffee and the company of Jay, his family, and other guests sitting at a huge communal style table in the dining room while chef makes delicious breakfast fare. The room itself has a view of the harbor with large picture windows, and the bed is very comfy, best we slept all trip. The amenities provide anything you need and they are all clean non toxic products for shampoo, lotions etc. We were greeted in our room with roses, a hand written note, and chocolates which was such the added touch. The private lawn has chairs to enjoy the view, and games like cornhole. Yes, the breakfast is wow! Homeade and tailored for any dietary need as well, so very thoughtful. They provide snacks and drinks all day. Staff is wonderful, and we couldn't have asked for anything better. This is worth your stay! We will be back!

This is a review I don't want to write…read more Our 12-day road trip in honor of our being married 20 years was an incredible experience, which we shall cherish for the rest of our days. As much difficulty as I had planning it (for a variety of reasons I won't bore you with), everything ended up turning out GREAT. Ironically, though, the one place I was MOST excited to experience... Topside Inn... turned out to be our least favorite, and that makes me sad and even a little angry, and that's why I don't want to write the review. I've written many a negative review if a place warrants it, but this one still bothers me. It wasn't that it was horrible. No. In fact, I would probably say that our stay was even "decent" overall, but there were some annoyances and disappointments. I'll start with the disappointment. We stayed at this inn during our actual anniversary. The person assisting my travel agent friend who booked it said how excited they were at the inn. Here's the irony... not only did they do NOTHING for it, they couldn't even muster saying "oh, we heard it was your anniversary. Happy anniversary." NOTHING. Not one word. Not one gesture. Did I need them to do something? No. We had our own celebration, but at every other place we stayed for our 12-day trip, the other places somehow acknowledged our anniversary with kind words and/or some gesture... like a little box of chocolates or a 1/2 split of sparkling wine/champagne. Something. Did I expect anything? Not at all... but again, when the reservationist made an initial fuss over our anniversary being at THEIR place and how exciting it was, yeah, I expected at least a greeting. Now for the annoyances. I have a bad back and bad knee. The reservationist was given a full explanation of what our room needs would be. No stairs, easy access, difficulty with uneven ground, and they assured my travel agent friend they had the perfect room for us. They said the room would be on the ground level with no stairs involved. The problem is that they did not pay attention because I ended up dealing with very uneven ground walking up and down a gravel incline, along with a few stairs to boot, and they could have given us a room on the same level as the parking lot where we'd only have to wheel our suitcases a few feet to the room without any stairs, gravel or inclines. In a few words, they BLEW IT. It wasn't easy for me to deal with the slippery gravel, not to mention the incline and the few stairs, but I dealt with it. I just know it could've been MUCH EASIER if THEY had paid attention. I had never been to their property before, so I would have no way to know how things were laid out or what room would suit me best... but they did. The room itself was clean and SOMEWHAT comfortable. I say only somewhat because the mattress, at least in the room we stayed in, was very weird. The sides of the mattress severely sloped downward, so that when I would sit on it or even lay, I felt like I would roll right off... esp. on the side of the bed where I slept. This was an issue throughout our stay, and it definitely posed a challenge to deal with it. Another issue I had with the room was that the shower was small, but worse than that, it was incredibly slippery. I was terrified I was going to fall because there was nothing to hold onto; nor was their any non-slip mat or strips. People rave about the breakfasts served here. I was expecting some incredible elaborate feast, based on what we read and were told. However, I was completely underwhelmed with the breakfast when we were there. Basically, we were given scrambled eggs and sausage, neither of which was anything special in taste or presentation. There was some kind of strawberry sauce over a biscuit, and while it looked pretty, it had no flavor. I'm not a cereal eater, so I didn't have any. I don't know... it was a big miss to me. I just didn't see or taste why people think this is so wonderful. It completely eluded me. We paid a lot of money to stay here. It should've been a lot better for what we paid, and by the way, we paid less everywhere else and got much better service, much better comfort, and we were treated better by any of the other places we stayed at. There are enough other choices in this town that if we ever return, it won't be to this establishment. Again, it wasn't bad... it just wasn't great either.

This property has an adult summer camp feel and would actually be great to get a group of people to stay for 4-5 days to be able to get the full experience. My friend said it reminded her of Dirty Dancing and I completely agree! We had a double full room which was lovely. The slider with the balcony viewing the ocean was the perfect way to sit and start your day. The rooms have keys, not cards or pin pads. My two negatives are 1) the bathroom has a door and a toilet but no door on the toilet but a door on the shower. But there's a jacuzzi. The toilet feels like it should be behind a closed door. 2) This is one of those places where the pictures online make it look brand new and gorgeous and its not brand new but it is quite nice. If you don't want to leave the property, you could stay and really utilize the entire facility. It was too cold to swim which was a bummer because I swore I saw the pool is heated somewhere, but it is not. However? The pool and the hot tub sitting out in the harbor was an amazing place to sit and stare at the stars at night. We had 2 spa services each scheduled for Saturday. Unfortunately, about 2 hours before the first service, we got a text that the esthetician was ill and we would only be able to enjoy our couples massage, and the time got moved a half hour later for that. Now we had planned on Saturday being a full spa day, 2 services each, 3 hours of services...hang in the hot tub after...and so this was a bummer. Thinking back I'm kind of surprised that we weren't offered anything additional, or a small discount for the last minute inconvenience but maybe I'm expecting too much. That being said, Ryan the masseuse...chef's kiss. Amazing massage. Being outside in the cool breeze but the sun, the sounds of the birds and animals...it was absolutely perfect. Which we had explored the hot tub here. Now the bar/restaurant...both got steak bites night one. Amazing. Fries - amazing. Drinks, great. Night two we sat at the bar and kept Armando company and he was a great bartender, we got espresso martini's with desserts and they were delicious. William at the front desk was so kind and helpful, as was the rest of the staff. There's a little game room, there's a s'mores station. One downfall is this gorgeous property is a place of celebration, so the grand view deck was closed as a private event. I would absolutely go back and try to spend more time here. We drove to downtown everyday and had countless amazing meals/ drinks/service. Plenty of shops and candy and chocking and footbridge views.

Buildings need to be maintained. Our building had paint peeling off the railings and possible carpenter ant infestation in the wall by building Bluebird. 3. Breakfast service.....I like water in the morning....each day I had to search out and ask the waitress to refill my glass. 4. Nobody told me at check-in that the room would only be cleaned every three days.....we were only there four days. 5. Food.....eggs Benedict was spicy and not pleasant to the eye.....it had a vinegar taste......primavera at dinner was mediocre. Thick and pasty. We will not return.
