    Beautiful flowers outside the office

    The Inn was very clean and well maintained, I believe they recently renovated our room, it was spotless. We didn't make it into the pool, but that looked impeccably clean as well. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The scenery around the inn is beautiful, it was very peaceful looking out at the water. Breakfast was muffins, danishes, and fresh fruit which I did enjoy, but a yogurt and/or hard boiled egg would have been a nice touch. If you stay here I absolutely recommend taking out a row boat or canoe (no extra charge) on the lake. The scenery was beautiful and we had a very peaceful morning ride. I do wish the office opened a little earlier, we were up at 6:30 but had to wait for the office to open at 8:00 to check-out a canoe and get paddles. If you like to sleep late, I recommend requesting a room further from the office. Luckily we are early risers but it did get quite noisy around our room next to the office as others came and went from getting their breakfast. Overall we had a very pleasant stay and I thought the rates were more than reasonable; I would absolutely recommend others to stay here!

    My 16 month puppy loves the lake right in front of window.

    We have been this place before but the recent visit even better. We stayed in two queen bed room, with water view. Our room is twice as king bed room that we stayed before. Room is simple as standard two star motel, but it was very clean and air was so fresh. We travel with our 16 month doggy girl. She loves watch out the water view through balcony. Not just the water view is so beautiful, it's even better when you step into the water. We stayed in the water front few hours each day during the stay. Owner is very friendly. I had to adjust my schedule few days ago before our visit, owner adjust my room with out problem and he was so nice. We will come back again. P.S. there is sea food restaurant with sea food market just 2 miles away. The name is Robinson's Wharf, you will love it if you a sea food lover.

    Don't be expecting a 5 star hotel when you come here. This is more like a motel on a gorgeous setting by the lake. We were here for a family trip and the view behind the motel was breathtaking. People working there were very friendly. The motel is old and but well maintained. Our room was small but had all the essentials that you need, even a hair dryer. The furniture and the bed in the room was old too but were comfortable. The only complaint was the TV was tiny! They could really work on getting bigger tvs. The balconies facing the lake was a very nice touch. They have free row boats and kayaks you can borrow as well. And we definitely took advantage of that and had tons of fun. The free pastries and coffee in the morning was more than enough and delicious. Overall, it was a great stay for your money. A old and outdated motel that is well maintained by a beautiful lake. Come check it out.

    My nice obstructed view that I did not request

    I went this past week and the hotel was dead, only 6 cars in the entire lot, so it was quiet. The room was sufficient for an one night stay to get to Acadia National Park. The view from the hotel room could have been better (explained later) overlooking the calm harbor waters. The complementary breakfast consisted of muffins and danishes, nothing exciting. On to why I gave only 3 stars...I requested for room 14 which is suppose to be a balcony king bed with a great UNOBSTRUCTED view of the waters (see picture). When I got to the hotel, they told me my room was being painted and that I would not want to stay in a room with fresh paint smell, so we were switched for room 10. It was the same balcony king room but with the pool right in your balcony site. Of all the rooms available, they put us in this room. Then to find out in the morning, they had given the room I requested for a month in advance to someone else. I saw the two guests come out of my room with my own eyes. I tried to confront the lying management and they were nowhere to be found. The office opens at 8AM, but no one was there even at 815AM. They were apparently still sleeping in one of the hotel rooms upstairs. The housekeeper did not speak English and took my keys and told me to leave. I tried getting a receipt and they could not furnish one because the manager was still sleeping.

    Meticulously maintained! When did you last see the staff of a hotel dusting the outside handrails and balusters and wiping the outside of the room doors? They do it here! Friendly staff, fresh muffins and breads baked onsite each morning, beautiful lake views. This is an older property with all the inherent limitations that come with age. For that reason alone I give 4 stars instead of 5. But, they make it work as well as anyone can. Approx 1 mile from the center of town. You will enjoy your stay!

    stayed here for 4 days. love how we could park our bike close to our room. rooms r very clean and big. the balcony is spacious but careful of the railing . about six minutes to downtown. fyi if you decide to walk down to the water. it's all up hill on the way back. anyone over 55. lol beware. would definitely stay again

    The view from our balcony (same view when you're lying in bed!). Beautiful lake with lots of wildlife. Saw a bald eagle!!!

    My wife and I arrived for a two night stay on Sunday and we were met by Anna the owner. We came early but fortunately our room was ready so we checked in and immediately felt comfortable. The room gave us a perfect view of the small lake where you were able to borrow a canoe (you must sign a waiver first). Anna gave us some great recommendations for dinner and took her time marking up our map for some of the scenic places we wanted to visit. There's a complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby where there is fresh fruit muffins bagels and coffee and tea. It was a perfect way to start our day each morning. The proximity of the hotel is literally a 4 to 5 minute drive into the heart of Boothbay Harbor and the commercial district. All of the great restaurants and shops as well as kayak rentals and boat charters are a short drive away. We'd go back.

    View from deck.

    Spotless rooms and grounds. So close to everything in Boothbay harbor, but very quiet and peaceful. Fire pit, barbecue grills and picnic tables by the water. We could not be happier with this hidden gem. A great bargain.

    Such a lovely hotel! The owners/staff are very nice and helpful in every way. Our. room was huge (deluxe balcony room) with a wonderful view of the water. Everything was clean and well maintained. Breakfast consisted of an array of freshly baked muffins, sliced breakfast cake, and cinnamon rolls, as well as coffee (always available) and juices.

    Small Mouth trust me they have ones so big they will snap the line!

The private lawn has chairs to enjoy the view, and games like cornhole. Yes, the breakfast is wow! Homeade and tailored for any dietary need as well, so very thoughtful. As much difficulty as I had planning it (for a variety of reasons I won't bore you with), everything ended up turning out GREAT. Ironically, though, the one place I was MOST excited to experience... Topside Inn... turned out to be our least favorite, and that makes me sad and even a little angry, and that's why I don't want to write the review. I've written many a negative review if a place warrants it, but this one still bothers me. It wasn't that it was horrible. No. In fact, I would probably say that our stay was even "decent" overall, but there were some annoyances and disappointments. I'll start with the disappointment. We stayed at this inn during our actual anniversary. The person assisting my travel agent friend who booked it said how excited they were at the inn. Here's the irony... not only did they do NOTHING for it, they couldn't even muster saying "oh, we heard it was your anniversary. Happy anniversary." NOTHING. Not one word. Not one gesture. Did I need them to do something? No. We had our own celebration, but at every other place we stayed for our 12-day trip, the other places somehow acknowledged our anniversary with kind words and/or some gesture... like a little box of chocolates or a 1/2 split of sparkling wine/champagne. Something. Did I expect anything? Not at all... but again, when the reservationist made an initial fuss over our anniversary being at THEIR place and how exciting it was, yeah, I expected at least a greeting. Now for the annoyances. I have a bad back and bad knee. The reservationist was given a full explanation of what our room needs would be. No stairs, easy access, difficulty with uneven ground, and they assured my travel agent friend they had the perfect room for us. They said the room would be on the ground level with no stairs involved. The problem is that they did not pay attention because I ended up dealing with very uneven ground walking up and down a gravel incline, along with a few stairs to boot, and they could have given us a room on the same level as the parking lot where we'd only have to wheel our suitcases a few feet to the room without any stairs, gravel or inclines. In a few words, they BLEW IT. It wasn't easy for me to deal with the slippery gravel, not to mention the incline and the few stairs, but I dealt with it. I just know it could've been MUCH EASIER if THEY had paid attention. I had never been to their property before, so I would have no way to know how things were laid out or what room would suit me best... but they did. The room itself was clean and SOMEWHAT comfortable. I say only somewhat because the mattress, at least in the room we stayed in, was very weird. The sides of the mattress severely sloped downward, so that when I would sit on it or even lay, I felt like I would roll right off... esp. on the side of the bed where I slept. This was an issue throughout our stay, and it definitely posed a challenge to deal with it. Another issue I had with the room was that the shower was small, but worse than that, it was incredibly slippery. I was terrified I was going to fall because there was nothing to hold onto; nor was their any non-slip mat or strips. People rave about the breakfasts served here. I was expecting some incredible elaborate feast, based on what we read and were told. However, I was completely underwhelmed with the breakfast when we were there. Basically, we were given scrambled eggs and sausage, neither of which was anything special in taste or presentation. There was some kind of strawberry sauce over a biscuit, and while it looked pretty, it had no flavor. I'm not a cereal eater, so I didn't have any. I don't know... it was a big miss to me. I just didn't see or taste why people think this is so wonderful. It completely eluded me. We paid a lot of money to stay here. It should've been a lot better for what we paid, and by the way, we paid less everywhere else and got much better service, much better comfort, and we were treated better by any of the other places we stayed at. There are enough other choices in this town that if we ever return, it won't be to this establishment. Again, it wasn't bad... it just wasn't great either.

    Nostalgic...what a cute "retro" motel! Simply charming!…read more Built, owned and operated by the Lewis family. When the family opened the motel in 1955 it was the region's first! Tim Lewis (the current owner) is the sweetest man. He is wonderful, down to earth, kind, honest, welcoming, helpful and very informative. From the time you show up he makes you feel like you've known each other forever and treats you like you're an old friend visiting. He sets the tone for you to have the most wonderful and comfortable stay you can possibly have. We simply loved the retro décor with the knotty pine paneling and handmade wooden furniture from the 50's. He has updated with TV's, cable, and Wi-Fi, but aside from that most décor and the bathrooms remain the same...it's pretty cool actually. I really liked having a screen door on our room too...how cool is that? Moreover, the motel is clean and he keeps the grounds immaculate. Since this is an older motel, you may notice some of "accessories" missing from a more modern motel. The rooms are smaller, so they can't accommodate some of those "things". If there is something you need or desire...just ask. I think you'd be surprised at what he has on hand. The motel is located in the perfect area/location. You are a short walk from the downtown area, yet far enough away not to have a lot of noise. You can absolutely walk everywhere once you are there. The motel is very reasonably priced for the area and does not include breakfast. Tim can make some great suggestions, but please don't worry...restaurants are literally a 5 minute walk away or less. Speaking of suggestions...if you need ideas or information on anything in the area or Maine in general ask Tim...he is simply a wealth of information and ideas. We actually altered our personal itinerary to add a few things after chatting with him. He travels a lot, so he has information on a lot more too, but that's another story. If you are looking for luxury accommodations, a more modernized place with all the bells & whistles, etc....this isn't it. If you are looking for something different, out of the norm, or maybe a trip down memory lane and/or just want an overall great stay with a good night's rest in a comfortable room...this is your place! I would recommend staying here 110%! End Note: When we left I/we felt sad and we only stayed a few days. Tim was so kind that it was like leaving a dear friend or family behind. I hope we get a chance to visit again one day, but in the meantime all I can do is recommend it to you... {17 - pictures & video clip posted}
