She has created a community of visitors to the area on 10's of acres of beautiful Damariscotta riverside accomodations which, ch are extremely cozy. If you are staying for a few nights or weeks, she has a family cottage, two apartments and several rooms in the main house which are appointed for ease and comfort. The price is very reasonable for the kind of access you get by staying just a short walk from the center of town and main street crosses the river with views of the harbor. The town of Damariscotta offers many dining, shopping and art establishments as well as a playhouse, movie theatre, library and parks. We stay here each year for at least one or two weeks and make it our base for our vacation. We come from San Jose Ca, to stay at Martha's and we love it! If you are housekeeping, the cottage, studio and RiverView appartments have all the accouterments for making a few meals, surfing the Internet or just reading on the porch. Each is outfitted with super comfortable couches, chairs and recliners. When the sun sets, reflections from the river glimmer and floods the abode with dancing light. We customarily do a seafood pasta while playing some italian opera or Andrea Bocelli on the iPod. Then we uncork a nice red and basque in the quietude of the evening. A series of serene and beautiful times to be had in this idyllic spot in Maine.

Paint is worn, grounds unkempt. Entering the office area was like walking into grandma's house. In fact, I think it's a living room. Tacky decor, unprofessional staff, and mild mothball smell. Then the room. Oh, man, the room. More tacky hell. Horrible floral wallpaper, cornflower blue carpet, silk flowers, dated dark wood furniture and oh that wonderful mothball smell again. No AC, but there was this horrid loud "ceiling fan" that was like an oscillating fan bolted to the ceiling. To it's credit, nothing was dirty, just old and depressing. I've stayed in motels better than this. But a free breakfast! Oh, the horrible, depressing breakfast. Dead silent little dining room with a few tables of people minding their own. Breakfast consisted of store-bought pastries and terrible coffee. Oh, and more silk flowers! All in all, a miserable little place that would be fine for $50 a night. But at more than double that, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Decent, free continental breakfast in a pretty enclosed porch - bagels, yogurt, and fresh baked, delicious fruit-filled muffins. But breakfast was late (8-10am), which was annoying when the sun rises at 5:30am. The place was amazingly empty for late August - only 3 rooms occupied out of 20-30 rooms. Nice grounds, but feels like the place is a little run down and in need of a lot of investment, but not enough beds being filled.

I believe her mom was the housekeeper and told us if we needed ANYTHING, not to hesitate to ask. The room came with tow double beds, a refrigerator, plenty of shelving, nightstands, bureaus, and most anything you could ask for in a motel. Again it is dated but sparkling clean and a very large room and readily available ice if you wanted it. It was night and day compared to the dump I recently reviewed in Bar Harbor. These people care about your needs and comfort. The AC was turned on well before our arrival, they asked about anything we might need or want and where are you going to find a hotel on Rte 1 in Maine the last week of July? And, the frosting on the cake, it was $75! I spent 2 hours working the phones and internet and everything else was $260-$399 with a 2 night minimum. These people are wonderful.
