Stephanie and her family were SO welcoming -- it felt like we were staying with old friends as soon as we arrived. The house itself is cozy and clean and the rooms are comfortable, charming, and unique. I loved drinking coffee on the porch in the morning looking out over the property. Plus there are some very sweet pets on the premises if you are looking for a friendly cat or dog! (Though Stephanie was also very good about keeping the animals corralled to help with my husband's allergies.) Also even two months later I can't stop thinking about the breakfasts that Stephanie made us each morning. That open-faced smoked salmon omelet? The STILL WARM baked goods with real Maine blueberries?? And how she made sure coffee was ready to go super early in the morning as soon as I told her I was an early riser. My only complaint about our stay is that I wish we could have spent more time at the inn itself -- we were too busy out and about with wedding stuff!! I just wanted to hang out at The Tipsy Butler! But if you are in mid-coast Maine for a wedding, The Tipsy Butler is the ideal location to get around to spots in Damariscotta and Bristol. The amazing restaurants River House and the Shuck Station are within walking distance, and 1812 Farm (the wedding venue) was a short 10-minute drive down the road. Thanks for everything, Stephanie! I can't wait to come back!!

An Absolute Wedding Treasure…read more When we decided to get married, we wanted to avoid the ridiculously high costs of weddings, and wanted a smaller, "family & close friends only" event, but still wanted a special day, of course. We toyed with the idea of a backyard wedding with "bring food as your gift" on the invite, ditching all the little expensive extras, but it wasn't coming together, especially when Mom fell sick. How lucky we were that a relative suggested the Mill Pond Inn, which was three houses down the street from their home in Nobleboro. It's a cliche, but The Mill Pond Inn is indeed a treasure. Bobby and Sherry are fantastic. We visited the place the summer before our wedding. A few months later, when we first talked with Bobby about our wedding schedule, he said "nah, you don't wanna do that" to a few of our ideas, and, as we were looking at each other during the phone call and realizing he was right, we decided to let him and Sherry run the show. What an *absolute* *relief*! We didn't have all the hassles that other folks warned us about when planning weddings. It was all just handled, and handled well. The food was great (we picked the menu, Bobby and Sherry did the rest . . . and we highly recommend bringing in their neighbors, Leigh and Sharon, who did a pre-ceremony oyster bar with local oysters for the guests as they arrived). Bobby and Sherry dealt with everything but the flowers (and there was a local florist that handled that) and music (we chose a playlist that we played over their sound system). There was *none* of the pre-wedding stress that we'd heard about from so many people. That itself was worth every penny! Speaking of which, the budget Bobby proposed was more than workable (yet another relief). All told the cost was well *under* what we'd budgeted. All we had to do was get invites out (tell your guests to bring swimwear -- the kids and a few adults had an absolute ball jumping into the pond and swimming during the meal and on into the afternoon). Part of the deal was that you had to rent out the entire place, but it was no problem filling the rooms with out of town relatives, and we in fact ended up reserving rooms in one of the homes across the road, which was right on the lake, which gave an added bonus of having lake access for a couple of days. Bobby and Sherry even accommodated Mom, who was in a wheelchair, by letting us bring and set up a portable AC in the front room -- she was very concerned about overheating in her condition, and this made her feel much safer. The day could not have been more magical. It was hot, but they knew where the shady spots were, and we set up so that the chairs and the gathering were in the shade when is was time for the ceremony. The setting was beautiful, and the weather cooperated (though Bobby had contingency plans in case of rain). We give Mill Pond Inn our highest recommendation -- we've given them permission to use our wedding photos, and we gave them our number if you want to hear it directly from us! David & Natalie

Paint is worn, grounds unkempt. Entering the office area was like walking into grandma's house. In fact, I think it's a living room. Tacky decor, unprofessional staff, and mild mothball smell. Then the room. Oh, man, the room. More tacky hell. Horrible floral wallpaper, cornflower blue carpet, silk flowers, dated dark wood furniture and oh that wonderful mothball smell again. No AC, but there was this horrid loud "ceiling fan" that was like an oscillating fan bolted to the ceiling. To it's credit, nothing was dirty, just old and depressing. I've stayed in motels better than this. But a free breakfast! Oh, the horrible, depressing breakfast. Dead silent little dining room with a few tables of people minding their own. Breakfast consisted of store-bought pastries and terrible coffee. Oh, and more silk flowers! All in all, a miserable little place that would be fine for $50 a night. But at more than double that, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Decent, free continental breakfast in a pretty enclosed porch - bagels, yogurt, and fresh baked, delicious fruit-filled muffins. But breakfast was late (8-10am), which was annoying when the sun rises at 5:30am. The place was amazingly empty for late August - only 3 rooms occupied out of 20-30 rooms. Nice grounds, but feels like the place is a little run down and in need of a lot of investment, but not enough beds being filled.
