We travel to New England yearly for the outdoorsy adventures and food. The foodie scene is out of this world fabulous (fresh seafood haven)! If you have never been you are missing out on adventure and serenity. I found this cozy beautiful B&B in Camden ME after doing abit of research. The town of Camden is historic and quaint, we loved every aspect of it. Whitehall didn't disappoint, it was very clean inside and out, the grounds are well kept. The breakfast- bar was great. Customer service was top notch thru out the facility. The soap and lotion in the bathroom are vegan, which is a plus. We enjoyed the gas firepits in the evening. Free parking was available on site. I will definitely be returning in the near future for another stay. Now I'm on a mission to stay at their other locations! Second time staying at this warm, welcoming inn. We were here 5 years ago, the innkeeper Gwen is still running this well oiled enterprise. She runs a good ship. This is a super clean and upkept facility. The room rocked, with everything needed. The breakfast was superb. The staff was super. The lobby is spacious with numerous comfortable spots for sitting. The front porch is also a great sitting spot. Two outdoor fire pits were nice areas for nighttime socializing. And there is plenty of available parking. We loved this place when we were before, and we loved it just as much on this visit. We give it a top rating and definitely recommend this special find. read more

Whitehall is a quaint B&B in Camden, ME. The town is just as quaint, and an interesting place to visit. Whitehall has a little over 30 rooms. The room we had was very small as expected. The bedding, linens and towels were 5/5. The soaps in the room were 6/5, wow. The hotel could use a small ice machine for the guests, as asking someone to get ice from the kitchen is inconvenient and uncomfortable. The rooms are modernized with lots of USB ports. The television offering in this hole is horrid. To see any television at all I had to enter my own log in and password to Amazon and or Netflix. I changed those passwords when I left. Duh... 21st century, my personal data should not be necessary. Breakfast was sparse in variety, and just ok in quality. Parking was nice. read more

Wonderful first experience at the Whitehall on a steamy July evening. The fire pits and string lights add a modern twist to this classic New England Inn. Despite the Pig and Poet bar no longer being there, this is bustling spot for guests who want to play shuffleboard, have a BYOB cocktail on the porch, roast s'mores over the firepit or simply enjoy downtown Camden knowing your a short walk away from your bed. The location is ideal for anyone looking to stay downtown without the noise and commotion. It's a beautifully restored hotel from the Lark group. Amazing history (dates back to the late 1800s) and Edna St. Vincent Millay was "discovered" there. Beautiful grounds, rocking chairs on the porch, great places to just hang out in the lobby. All done with a great sense of style. No restaurant but-- There's a bar for guests open til 10, free coffee/tea all day, free breakfast (scones or croissants, quiche bites, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, granola), comfortable rooms. 10-minute walk to town through a beautiful neighborhood. I stayed at Whitehall about 14 years ago and WOW, what an evolution. Where do I begin? I'll start by saying that the morning before we arrived at Whitehall, my now fiance had proposed to me. From the moment we pulled up, every single staff member already knew, greeted us with huge smiles and enthusiasm which made our stay an absolute delight. When we got to the room, it was covered in rose petals and the staff had left us a bottle of Prosecco and a lovely note welcoming us to the hotel. We had already traveled through Maine quite a bit and this room was by far the nicest we had stayed in. The bed was a full king size and was SUPER comfortable. Compared to the b&b's we had stayed in, this was truly the lap of luxury. The finishes in the room were beautiful and the bathroom was immaculately clean with stunning natural light and a clawfoot tub. Having seen the old Whitehall, this felt like a modern version of what used to be, but they didn't lose the old school charm. The lobby was warm and welcoming even though it's super funky and modern and we spent a lot of time relaxing on couches flipping through art books and drinking cocktails on the porch in the rocking chairs. We also frequented the onsite Pig + Poet restaurant, which we ate at both nights and each morning of our stay. There's really not that many great restaurants in Camden and this one was very much up to our Brooklyn standards. Innovative food with a cozy atmosphere. We ate our way through the entire menu and were very impressed. There was really no reason to leave the property and we didn't with the exception of going on a hike. We loved our stay of four nights in the Fall of 2019. The staff was helpful from the start, with Gwen able to recommend several food and drink options when we first arrived in Camden. The bed was very comfortable, and there were no problems with our room. It's obvious a lot of care goes into the daily breakfast, which despite being called a "small plates" meal, was always filling (and delicious!) and a great start to our day. We loved ending our evenings with a glass of wine outside by the fire table or in the rocking chairs on the porch. We will absolutely stay here again if we come back to Camden, and you should too! read more

Memorial Day Weekend, 2017 at the Whitehall Inn in Camden, ME. First, let's talk staff...the best. We were greeted for a late check in by a wonderful front desk/night manager very friendly and helpful. The couple that manage the hotel are two great people that were kind and accommodating. The bartender, awesome dude from Philly who was there setting up the bar and the waitstaff professional, courteous and friendly. Second, The Whtehall is a historic inn close to the center of Camden (about a half a mile). You can definitely walk it but I'm lazy so a quick drive with plenty of parking to be found in town is the way to go. The decor of the inn is a little funky for my taste, retro red and green colors, Brady Bunch era furniture which doesn't fit the period of the hotel but I get what they were trying to do. Oh it's clean and somewhat comfortable but I would have stuck with the integrity of the period and went with a more classic design with neutral colors. Oh and our room. Clean, comfortable, spacious and the bed...uber comfortable. The same color pattern followed me to the room. We had the private bath while I know some of the other rooms had a shared hall bath. PS nice private outside patio in the back with a gas fire pit. Finally, the restaurant. I love when where I stay has a bar and restaurant right on the premises and there was The Pig and Poet. It is very nice and handsomely decorated with a good ambiance and a popping vibe. The food is good. I am more of a steak and potato kind of guy (boring, some might say) and this place is for the foodies with a more complex menu. So go enjoy you foodies. My order was under cooked and the staff and kitchen immediately took care of my needs and satisfied me completely. Would I go back...absolutely and looking forward to it. read more

If it were possible to give more than 5 stars we would. We've been here for 4 days for a wedding/family reunion, and it's been absolutely magical in every way. They have been so kind, helpful and especially gracious with the amount of children here this weekend. I understand someone was upset about the removal of antique furniture, and I totally hear them, but it's just beautiful, and it's better to protect the antiques. With antiques everywhere that really just alienates families with children, and that anxiety that something could get damaged. It doesn't matter about the "stuff" in the place, the memories and the beautiful energy are still there. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for my brothers wedding in Camden and it was such a lovely experience. The staff was extremely nice and accommodating. They were very careful with everything pertaining to Covid and we were very thankful. The place is adorable, with unique, nautical decor and you can just see the history in the whole building. A really nice place in a very good location. A nice alternative to B&Bs that are sometimes a little too small and can feel claustrophobic. Rooms were nice and comfortable, and the staff were helpful, although I didn't really push them much in terms of my needs. This being said, the hot water during peak shower time did not hold up. Also, the restaurant was really pricey-- not much on the menu that wasn't expensive. Also, breakfast doesn't start until 8; we had full days planned and couldn't even get coffee-- let alone anything to eat-- before then. And the iPad is not necessary... it's a potential $700 liability that I really didn't want. read more

My husband and I stayed at Whitehall for our anniversary a couple of weekends ago, and we absolutely loved it. There's a charm about Whitehall that settles around you, and manages to blend seamlessly with the town of Camden, its lush mountains, and that amazingly picturesque bay. From our room, we could see the dark blue-grey curve of water beyond the trees; we had enough of a view that we could catch glimpses of bright white sails passing by now and again. The multitude of windows let in so much natural light and, filtered through the fresh green leaves of the spring trees, it was well-matched with the greens and woods of the decor. At night, when the moon was full and the sky was clear, we could watch its arc across the window closest to our bed. Downstairs in the lobby, there were many places to sit and read or chat or share a glass of wine in front of an even greater number of beautiful windows. These seating areas were all designed to encourage a moment of peace with furniture and art respectful and celebratory of Maine's unique environment. There was a nice blend of industrial, modern, natural, and nautical. On one clear night, we spent some time sitting outside in front of the fire, watching the bay and the moon and the trees. That moment felt so perfect. We had breakfast every morning - Whitehall provides a nice selection of foods including delicious fresh-baked scones made in house. None of this would have been possible without Gwen, whose attention to detail, eagerness, and enthusiasm made this trip really quite magical for us. With just a handful of staff and a great deal of industriousness, she went above and beyond for all of her guests. Any time we needed something, she'd stop whatever she was doing to help. She asked us about our adventures in Maine when we returned every day, and her attentiveness and genuine interest made us feel like we were staying with an old friend. This was one of the best Bed and Breakfast establishments that I have ever experienced. The factors which motivated us to choose something a little bit different was because we have traveled so much back and forth to the Midwest and stayed at crummy hotels. We were yearning for the friendliness of the host which for us by far was an important factor, followed by easy access to other fun attractions, the site being the most appealing place in the region. The flowers around the property were just breath taking! You can walk ten minutes into town and there is a fabulous waterfall nearby restaurants and cool shopping. The friendly couple Billy & Andrea that ran the property were very different from what we had become accustomed to... they are both Chefs and beyond accommodating. They took the time to talk to us and were so friendly that they made you feel like you were staying at their home. I really appreciate all of the work that they put into making this a professional and outstanding atmosphere. The food is DELICIOUS! They had the most amazing breakfast buffet! Wow! I did a lot of research about hotels in Maine and came up with an obvious choice, Whitehall. We haven't had a real vacation in years and I wanted to do it right, and boy were we happy with our stay. We have nothing but good things to say about Andrea, Billy and the staff at Whitehall! From the FREE breakfast and snacks (Rice Krispies treats and chocolate chip cookies) that were nothing short of awesome, to the colorful furniture and décor, to the beautifully appointed rooms! I took a 10-minute walk into town (Camden) each morning, scaled the mountainous terrain of the stairs multiple times every day, and returned home fit and totally rested. We are looking forward to our next stay in the Lark hotel group, especially as we have grown tired of mainstream hotel chains with their stale décor and rooms. read more

We're big fans of boutique hotels, having enjoyed several from the Magnolias in Dallas and Denver, to the King Charles in Charleston, with a lot of Kimptons and various independents thrown in along the way. They offer a nice middle ground between the sterile, impersonal feel of high-end chain hotels and the "I feel like a house guest eating breakfast in your living room" vibe of bed and breakfasts. Accordingly, we were looking forward to staying at the Whitehall for 3 nights in early July. Whitehall nails it on virtually all counts. We very much enjoyed the decor which skillfully mixes contemporary with the classic elements of the original, New England inn. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Perhaps best were the various porches, patios, etc. where we felt comfortable sitting, reading, talking, and just sitting enjoying a beer from the bar. Having a very nice restaurant on-site rounded out the experience. The Pig & Poet offers an appropriately limited, yet varied menu, perfect ambiance, and excellent service. We'll be back and are looking forward to visiting other Lark hotels. read more

This was our favorite "Old Maine" Hotel with charm, history and tradition everywhere. The new owners modernized and "upscaled" the place. They replaced antique furnishings with 21st Century sterility. A true disappointment for us. My review is solely informative for movie buffs who like to visit filming locations. For Peyton Place fans who might be drawn to visit Whitehall beware that the inn's interior was updated a few years back and looks nothing the classic inn portrayed in the movie. With the modern makeover a corner of the inn was rightfully dedicated to a local poet who started here but sadly all the Peyton Place memorabilia was removed from the walls. Fortunately, an album tucked away in the book case contains photos from the movie and the exterior has changed little. One can picture the characters of Alison and Constance rocking on the porch (though the actors did so in a Hollywood studio). Although I did not stay or eat in the inn I gave Whitehall a 4 stars. The 4 stars does imply in this case "Yay I'm a fan" but rather were given to not unfairly lower the 3 and a half stars (at the date of this review) of paying guests. read more

I celebrated my wedding reception at the Whitehall and couldn't have been more happy and impressed. The staff was incredibly helpful and the venue was beautiful. We also stayed a couple of nights at the Whitehall after our wedding and the hotel rooms were quiet and comfortable. We stayed here for a wedding and it was pure magic. They leave treats throughout the day in the welcome room like scones or fresh baked cookies. The beds were mind blowing- best sleep I've had in a long time. There was always help nearby in the form of Abby, Gwen, and Gwen's husband. The entire staff was friendly and warm. The grounds were lovely, we loved gathering around the fire pits for intimate conversations. It's a short walk into town- 10 minutes. I highly recommend staying here. The history of Edna St Vincent Millay staying here enriched the experience even further. The whole place is imbued with a poetic romanticism. Decor is just lovely, great refurbished rooms. The Inn is very old and noisy, I recommend earplugs to get a good night's sleep. Bed was amazingly comfortable. On a bad note, I complained on my second day that the shower was very slippery and asked for a shower mat. They said they don't have those. The next morning I slipped and fell in the tub bruising myself pretty badly and breaking the shower in the process. When I told them about it, they said oh don't worry about breaking the shower. They didn't seem very concerned with my wellbeing or safety. I was disappointed in that reaction and am just lucky I didn't crack my head open on the tub. read more
