One of us has significant food restrictions and was just inquiring about the menu posted online and whether there had been additions or changes. He acted as if this was an insulting or outrageous question and that we should have known that this has been the menu all summer. Having just arrived here we of course, did not know that and when we explained, he doubled down and asked why we would ever think that the menu posted online wasn't the current menu. We said we have frequently been to restaurants whose online menu does not always list what's available on any particular evening. He continued to insist that what we were asking made no sense to him. When we said that unfortunately we would have to cancel because there was nothing on the menu that would fit into the required diet he said he would be charging us $25 per person for the cancellation. We then explained that we thought we had a good reason to cancel and asked him to waive that. His response was to say that if we had been more remorseful, he would have waived the fee. It was as if he was blaming us for his rude behavior. At that point, we thanked him and ended the conversation. At that point, we thanked him and ended the conversation. While we understand the restaurants policy and normally would have been fine paying the fee as we know that cancellations can be difficult, we have never been traded as rudely as this, especially by a person in charge

I recently celebrated my 60th birthday at the Captain Swift Inn in Camden, Maine, and it was an unforgettable experience shared with my wonderful wife, who arranged the entire trip. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that set the tone for our stay. The charming atmosphere of the inn, combined with the beautiful surroundings, created the perfect backdrop for this special milestone in my life. One of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast prepared by innkeepers Jeff and Shelly. Each morning, we were treated to a delicious array of dishes that were not only beautifully presented but also bursting with flavor. From French toast drizzled with local maple syrup to savory quiche filled with fresh ingredients, every bite was a delight. Jeff and Shelly's passion for cooking truly shone through, making breakfast a memorable part of our daily routine at the inn. I will never forget the baked (or maybe stewed?) apples that Jeff prepared on my birthday. Forgive my lack of culinary diction, but they were swimming in some sort of magic sauce that has forever spoiled me for enjoying any other sweets in the future. The cleanliness and orderliness of the Captain Swift Inn were evident throughout our stay. Our room, The Mercantile Suite, was immaculate and thoughtfully decorated, exuding a cozy charm that made us feel right at home. The attention to detail in the furnishings and decor was impressive, and we appreciated how every accessible room in the inn maintained the same high standard of cleanliness. It's clear that Jeff and Shelly take great pride in their establishment, ensuring that guests have a comfortable and pleasant experience. Overall, our stay at the Captain Swift Inn exceeded all expectations. The combination of impeccable service, outstanding breakfasts, and the serene beauty of Camden made for a truly special birthday celebration. If you're looking for a place to unwind and create lasting memories, I wholeheartedly recommend the Captain Swift Inn. It was the perfect getaway, and I can't wait to return! read more

Truth be told, my only knowledge of the Berry Manor Inn was when it was featured on Mike Rowe's "Dirty Jobs" TV show. Although the show had aired 10 years prior (unbeknownst to me), the inn was everything I had hoped for and more. I cannot emphasize enough about the amazing hospitality exhibited by every member of the inn's staff. They were so kind and such a pleasure to speak with. Unfortunately, in this day and age, qualities like "hospitality" and "kindness" and "courtesy" are often lost. But you can find them all within the Berry Manor Inn. I have family in the Rockland and Camden areas and will make sure the Berry Manor Inn is a regular stop for me each year when I go to visit. We never signed a formal contract, and the 2 sentences of written terms we did receive did not state that our refundable deposit would be forfeited upon cancellation. Our plans changed just 12 days later, almost a year out and we immediately let them know we needed to cancel. Even after only holding the rooms for less than 2 weeks, almost a year in advance, management nevertheless refused to return the deposit based on what they maintained was their "policy"despite that cancellation policy never having been provided to us as part of our agreement and a completely different policy being stated on their website. We tried repeatedly to resolve the matter amicably, even offering that the inn keep $500 as a cancellation fee. After trying to reason with her for a few months, the owner eventually just ghosted us. Ultimately, we had to take the matter to small claims court. After hearing both sides, the court ordered Berry Manor to return $3,600 of our $4,000 deposit, plus our court costs. I also wish I had realized before booking that the inn had changed ownership. I wish i had paid closer attention to the more recent reviews. Reading them afterward, I was disappointed to find other guests describing experiences that felt familiar, particularly frustration with management's rigid reliance on "policies" and how those policies were or werent communicated. Berry Manor itself may be beautiful, and its historic reputation may be wonderful. But beautiful wallpaper, antique furniture, and a charming Maine inn cannot compensate for management that, in my experience, fails to recognize the difference between having a policy and having actually communicated and agreed upon that policy with the customer. One would think a small business in a very small town where everyone knows everyone, a business would be reasonable and accommodating, especially to its locals. If she had been we would have still recommended our out of town friends and family to stay there, i am a wedding photographer and i would have recommended it and even paid to do photoshoots here in the off season. But it was more important to be "right" and keep our money to them. My advice is quite simple: go elsewhere. Or at least get a formal contract!!! Get every cancellation and refund term in writing. Do not assume that an undisclosed policy won't later be applied to your reservation. I sincerely wish we had.

We had noisy neighbors who we could hear using the hairdryer at 6:42am, and shouting down the hall and slamming their door at 7:30am. At 10:45pm there were sounds like chairs being dragged over hardwood for about 30 minutes. They do give you an opportunity to order breakfast that is delivered to your room and a time you specify. However, both days I had rancid milk for my coffee. I wrote a note to the staff after the first morning, and they served spoiled milk to me again on the second morning!! Moving around to different rooms 3 freaking times during a 4 day stay!!!! . This is supposed to be a luxury stay/hotel. Not musical hotel rooms. This is ridiculous. Wtf. I am beyond livid. And they don't even have a manager on site until tomorrow. No one is running the place. Just a front desk clerk. No one to help with luggage or if you have any issues (like the one we're having now). Literally one person that's manning the desk/hotel. They've totally screwed us and we have no one to talk to to even try to fix this. Just the hotel front desk clerk. Had we known we wouldn't have ever booked this place and now we have no other place booked plus there's no refunds or cancellations. It's absolutely mind blowing they think this is acceptable. Maybe if we were WHITE, they would be more forthcoming on providing us a better solution. If you're dumb enough to book here make sure you're ok with them totally ruining your vacation/stay and charging you a premium for it. Also, I think the minimum age of the occupants here is like 80. Everyone looks like an extra from the movie "Cocoon". Oh their solution was to give us a crappy discount and free breakfast and move us around 3 times. Wow, that's total BS. F your rooms, discount and your breakfast. I hope they all choke on it. As far as the rooms go, they're not very nice. Not what I would call luxury by any standard. It's decorated like an old lady's house. Everything looks old even though they said they just remodeled it. Was their vision board for the remodel based off someone's grandmas house from the 90s. Because that's what it looks like. It's the summer and their AC is super weak so I'm dying of heat in this muggy weather. As I said there's only 1 person running the place so if you have any issues then you're screwed. Also the mini fridge doesn't work. Also if you smoke then forget about it. You can't smoke on the entire property. You have to walk far, way up this hill away from everything and everyone. By the time I'm up the hill I'm too out of breath to smoke. They make you sign a contract saying you won't smoke. Wtf. Screw you. I do what I want. I will try to smoke anywhere but that hill out of spite. God, I hate this place. So be forewarned. Don't make me say I told you so.

What a gorgeous wedding venue! In my lifetime I've been to about 30 weddings and this by far was…read moreone of the top locations! Granted you need to hope for good weather, but my cousin was a very lucky lady in late September. I liked how big the property was - plenty of room for people to spread out, enjoy their food, or be on the dance floor. The sunset over the water was epic! We even saw bald eagles flying & fishing off shore. This location is so picturesque (heck even the bathroom was cute for selfies). The bride and her parents were blown away by the overnight accommodations too! I saw pics with the view of the infinity pool. Staff was wonderful, everything was spotless clean, and best of all the crowd & bride and groom had an awesome time!
