I've had bad B & B experiences in the past, but I'm happy to say Windward House wasn't one of them. I can't emphasize how adorable the property is and how hospitable Matt and Dan are. They have thought of just about everything for their guests during their stay. I also appreciated that even though there are common areas like a beautiful backyard garden and fire pit, there is enough space on the property for guests to keep to themselves if they so wish. We stayed in the Windward room, which was spacious with a large bathroom, sitting room and private front porch entrance. Everything was meticulously clean. I will say that you can hear road noise from this room so if you're a light sleeper you may want to opt for a room in the back or facing the garden. There is coffee and abundance of teas available 24/7 and a bar upstairs with an ample beer and beverage selection that works on an honor system. Breakfasts were homemade, hearty and delicious. Blueberries we're in season during our stay and the blueberry pancakes were a real treat. Location is conveniently located just steps away from the heart of Downtown Camden and easily accessible to the Mount Battie Trail. read more

What a treasure we have found with Dan and Matt at Windward House! The best care and comfort, a beautiful, spacious room with en suite bathroom and the best soaker tub I've ever been in. Breakfast was delicious and met my dietary needs easily. Blueberry pancakes were scrumptious. Lainie's Garden is great fun out back. Great stay place to stay! A couple of minutes away walk from Camden. On the "North End" Close to the shops and the harbor park (with the beautiful views of the harbor and "falls"). I grew up in Camden, the bedroom we had was like the bedroom I slept in when I stayed at my grandparents house. I wanted to give my wife that "small town"/"New England" feel. Dan and Matt were terrific hosts! They were very helpful in their suggestions of restaurants to visit...the town has changed so much over the years. The breakfast was great, numerous choices to satisfy your preferences. The back of the B&B has a lot of seating in a garden area with a fire pit. A nice place to relax or do some work if you need to. I'd never been to Camden before this trip. I just knew it was a place that people went to in summer, it was quiant, fun, etc. So I convinced my fiancée for an extended weekend there. I did some research and while Camden Windward House for some reason is REALLY hard to get an icon to pop up on Google Maps, I found it. We booked the Crows Nest Queen. It did have a warning about steps and a height issue, but we're both young (late 20s) and pretty short people so we thought it'd be okay. We drove up from essentially RI and found such an amazing place that their own website's photos don't do it justice. Their courtyard/garden is full of tchotchkes, but done tastefully and well-designed. It felt like we saw a new fun thing every time we walked through but very much not in a hoarder way. It was incredibly well-put together. Matt and Dan, the owners, were nothing but welcoming, warm, and helpful, always asking if we needed help with vacation ideas or such. I'm a big planner so we had most set but it was great nonetheless. The room was cozy, and after seeing the average age of vacationers in Camden (more than 65 years old) I get the warning about the stairs. We were fine, though. The slant in ceiling for our room specifically would have been an issue but I'm 5'6" on a good day, fiancée is 4'11". Wasn't a problem for us. Breakfast was tasty and had a bunch of options. I'll miss the green juice smoothie option, because it tasted actually pretty good but also because I don't think I will ever drink something that healthy again. My fault, I guess. I can go on and on about how well decorated, maintained, etc the property is and how nice Matt and Dan are but really it comes down to this: it's a fantastic place with less than a 7 min walk to downtown Camden. And Barney, their dog, is the manager who walks with you at check-in to make sure they're doing a good job. Someone had to maintain standards and they are being kept thanks to Barney. read more

We really enjoyed our getaway with friends to the Camden Windward House. The rooms are comfortable, none two the same. Our room had a nice sized closet, our friends had a tiny closet but a nice porch. Our room looked out on the street and there was no porch. I peeked into a few others, all very nice. The breakfast each morning was always good. There was fresh fruit and a variety of options. I am generally not a breakfast person so I mostly stayed to the Steel Cut Oatmeal. My husband and friends enjoyed the pancakes, French toast and eggs. One of the best reasons to stay at the Windward House is the proprietors/hosts. Dan was very knowledgeable about the area, things going on and suggestions about what to do. Matt does the cooking and is responsible for the beautiful garden area out back. They were both constantly in motion making sure the place is well maintained and the guests taken care of. If I didn't post about how much I loved staying at this place, I'd never forgive myself! Enjoyed my time here so much. The bed was comfy, breakfast was delicious (highly recommend their green smoothie), and the atmosphere was very peaceful. Not to mention the walk to town is only a few minutes and the location is great. Innkeepers Matt and Dan were friendly and quite knowledgeable. The place was extremely well kept, including the beautiful garden, and I could tell that a lot of thoughtfulness and care is put into running this establishment every day. Loved our first stay at a B&B. Windward House Innkeepers Dan & Matt were gracious, warm and more than accommodating. Breakfast offered delicious multiple options (eggs, pancakes, French toast, fruit and something 'healthy' which we didn't order!), cooked to order, and served in the dining room or delivered to your room. The Inn has a liquor license so cocktails, wine and beer were available for purchase. There's a beautiful garden area which had a fire pit in the back of the Inn which was a perfect setting for a pre or post dinner drink. We got a tour of the rooms and each was lovely. The Inn is family friendly, something you don't see much of in B&Bs. Dan is extremely knowledgeable about the area and was able to make recommendations for sightseeing and dining that matched our needs. He and Matt clearly love the area. Camden is a beautiful coastal town and the Inn is perfectly situated, within walking distance from from the shops on Main Street and the waterfront Mount Battie is a beautiful backdrop to the Inn and worth the 10 min drive to either hike or drive to the top. Views are amazing! The harbor and islands are picture perfect! We also went out on a boat trip on the Camden Harbor Cruise and saw seals, an eagle's nest and lobstahs and crabs. Speaking of lobstahs, we ate lobster rolls (McLaughlin's Lobster Shack in Linconville, 15 min drive, has tables and picnic benches right on the waterfront, a perfect combo for the delicious lobster rolls), Natalie's 5-course lobster tasting menu (on a beautiful porch overlooking the Camden harbor) and an epic array of lobster and all things seafood at The Waterfront, a Camden restaurant on the dock. Main Street proprietors were friendly and welcoming. And from fine arts to kitchy souvenirs, you'll find it there, along with tasty treats for a sweet tooth. We loved Windward House and Camden! We only had 2 full days there as our first and fourth days were travel days, so we can't wait to return! read more

My room was charming, I met interesting people around the firepit, and breakfast was served with warmed Maine maple syrup.

We loved the breakfasts including that you got to order from the menu. At our BnB in Portland it had a buffet, and I assume the owner ended up throwing food away at the end of the morning. I love that the Windward Inn did not have to waste. I appreciated the eggs being from pasture raised chickens, free range eggs. Our host was friendly remembering what we had said we would sight-see, then the next morning ask how it went. Our room the Crows' Nest was cute. There are 2 Crows' Nest rooms both taking up the third floor. Because of the slanted ceilings, you'll need to sit down to use the toilet. We liked that the BnB had a guest refrigerator. The inn keepers took very good care of us and have done a bunch to improve the property since the purchase of it a few years ago. Really nice people. We stayed in what is called " the Crows Nest". As it is an older house the stairs are steep and the walls do not have full dormers. Bumped our heads a few times. The shower stall is VERY slim. I would definitely stay again if book early enough to get one of the lower level rooms. Great breakfast each day included!!! Absolutely perfect location to town!!! read more

My fiance and I stayed here last November and it was PERFECT. We stayed in the Quarterdeck Room which I would highly recommend. It had everything you could want -- a super comfy king-sized bed, jacuzzi tub, cozy wood stove which turns on with the flick of a switch, post and beam detail, cathedral ceilings, lovely large windows, a nice flat screen tv, and your own private deck! I also like the separate entrance to this room. It feels very separate from the B&B... more like staying at your own place rather than in someone's house. Breakfast was plentiful ... fresh fruit, coffee, one morning we had delicious pancakes, the other morning eggs and bacon. Dan and Matt are wonderful Inn keepers! This was our 3rd stop and it far exceeded expectations. Immaculately clean, warm and cozy with lots of little touches. Not only have they provided you with every little thing you can imagine there is more than you thought you needed (right down to the way the toilet paper is folded). Their coffee and tea station is over the top from the selection of tea and coffee to the creamer and sugars. Our bathroom had modern touches from the jet tub, rain shower head with extra body sprayers and the elegant self defogger mirror. We stayed in the quarterdeck and the view and privacy was an additional bonus. Matt provides a wonderful hearty breakfast and lots of tips for sightseeing and dining. Our bed was very comfortable and we slept better here than at home in our own bed. We awoke to a light dusting of snow which only added to the Maine charm. The Inn is within walking distance to so many things. You will not be disappointed here. read more

We'll skip the history on this bed & breakfast and the information about the owner because the owner, Kristen, has provided it in her very accurate description of the business, which we suggest reading. We spent three nights at this b&b and loved every moment of it. The room (Chart Room) was spacious with a roomy sitting room and a separate bedroom with an outside door that opened onto a deck with some chairs for relaxing. The bed and pillows were most comfortable; there's a gas stove in the sitting room that warmed everything up when the evenings got chilly. The bathroom has lots of hot water (and it comes on almost immediately!) and a combination bath/shower jacuzzi. Kristen's breakfasts (cooked by her husband Jesse) are delicious, and range from pancakes to waffles to fresh scrambled eggs to specialty omlettes. All breakfasts come with a large bowl of fresh fruit and a choice of juices.Delicious! Hot tea, hot chocolate and nibblers are available for most of the day and evening. The location is a less-than-5-minute walk from the middle of downtown Camden; couldn't be more convenient for walking, so no need to worry about trying to find a parking place in the middle of a crowded summer day. There are lots of books for browsing in the b&b library, and ...well, there's just not a downside here. The rates are competitive. Our stay at the Camden Windward House (in the Quarterdeck Room) was wonderful. Kristen & Jesse are wonderful & thoughtful. Their customer service is impeccable and they have thoughtfully considered every touch, big and small. They thoughtfully and non intrusively offer suggestions on what to do and where to eat. The breakfasts are filling and delicious. The town of Camden was a delight to visit and we look forward to a return visit to the Camden Windward House. Oh what a wonderful little bed and breakfast! Located right in the center of Camden, has convenient parking in the back as well. Breakfast was a-la-carte and was great. The rooms are quaint, clean, and have all of the commodities to make your stay feel like you are being pampered. And the bed: not sure what it was, but it was incredibly comfortable. Our picture perfect vacation in the postcard-worthy town of Camden, Maine was complemented by our stay at a B and B that could have come out of a painting. The Windward House is a short 1 block walk from downtown Camden which has many attractions. But this B and B is fully worthy of its location. The rooms are clean, the linens fresh and plush, and the inn keepers as warm and helpful as you could possibly desire. Make sure you come hungry to breakfast as the menu is extensive and the preparation is restaurant quality. From orange yogurt pancakes to quinoa coconut oatmeal, it is literally impossible not to find something to your desire, whether prepared traditionally or vegan. We can't wait to return! My fiancé and I just wanted a one night vegan friendly getaway. After searching exactly that we found the Windward Inn. The room was beautiful and everything from the soap to the type of coffee they brew is high quality. Kate and I got to have a wonderful vegan breakfast in the morning which included french toast, breakfast burrito, fresh fruit, fair trade organic coffee, and a homemade green smoothie. Best part, it is all complimentary. We would love to come back in the summer and hike around the place or even come back in the winter and visit the Camden Snow Bowl to go toboggan sledding! My wife and I visit Camden every year to enjoy the festivities in town and at the National Tobaggon Championships at the Camden Snow Bowl. We rolled into town in the middle of a snow storm which was quite the challenge. Kristi, the owner, greeted us with a hot pot of coffee and gave us some great recommendations for local restaurants. We stayed in the Chart Room which was very spacious with a separate sitting room. The bath had a jacuzzi tub which felt good since it was so cold out. The huge king size bed was made even more comfy with a down mattress topper. And then there were the breakfast! No warmed over waffles here. Everything is made from scratch and most items are gluten free and vegan. You can order anything you like from the menu which is very diverse. The Windward House is very convenient to town. You can walk to all the restaurants in less than five minutes. If you haven't been to Camden, the area has some awesome restaurants. Reservations are usually necessary. This was my first time at a Bed & Breakfast, and found it to be a very pleasant experience. My wife and I were in the Elijah Glover room, which was on the 2nd floor at the front of the house. We also saw the Brass Room and thought that was a nice room in the back with a private deck. The breakfast was very good, too. We ordered our breakfasts from a menu with a number of options. I had the pancakes and egg both days. Coffee was available early in the morning and tea was available all day. Coffee shops in Camden did not open until well after I woke up so I appreciated that Kristi made coffee before 7am. Kristi also offered afternoon snacks the two days we were there. The location is great since it's a short walk (less than 10 minutes) to downtown and all the restaurants. I would stay here again if I traveled to Camden, and would recommend to others! read more

As a special treat for Andy's birthday and to get away from family for a day, we decided to stay somewhere while we were in Maine for the Thanksgiving holiday. Windward House was the standout after an exhaustive search of area B&Bs and Inns. Our criteria were fireplace/woodstove and jaccuzzi or hot tub. Windward House delivered on these criteria and so much more. We booked the Quarterdeck Suite at the off season rate and it exceeded our expectations. When we arrived at the Windward House, we were greeted by Kristen and fresh brownies and tea. She asked if we would like her to make reservations for us (knowing what time and season we were going to dinner we politely declined) and then took us to our room, which had a private entrance at the back of the property up a flight of stairs to the private deck. The room had a wall of windows overlooking Mt. Battie (and the Christmas Star), a gas woodstove, and a bathroom with Jaccuzzi tub. I loved the exposed beams. We also had a flat screen tv with DVD player and a good selection of DVDs. The next morning, Jesse greeted us with breakfast and coffee, which were included with the room. The food was delicious, with crispy bacon. I had orange yogurt pancakes and Andy had eggs and toast. Such a great experience, we will definitely be back for the excellent accommodations and hospitality. read more

I recently surprised my girlfriend with a trip to Maine and decided to stay in the Quarterdeck Room at the Camden Windward House. I'm definitely glad I did. The location of the B&B is perfect walking distance into Camden which is a really cute one-street kind of town. The room was very nicely sized and had a beautiful view through numerous windows that let in wonderful light. The bed was comfortable and the electronic fireplace stove was very cute. The proprietors, Kristi and Jesse, were kind as well, although we tended to keep to ourselves. Jesse made us breakfast one morning and it was quite delicious. They were a nice balance of attentive, but not intrusive. They even left really delicious chocolate cookies out for us that we snacked on all weekend. Thanks! read more

The property is beautiful and clean, and Dan and Matt are excellent hosts. My husband and I stayed in the Harbor Carriage House. The sheets were very comfy and the bed and bath rooms had a luxurious feel. I enjoyed ordering breakfast in the dining room each morning, and the coffee and food was always fresh and delicious. Dan is quick to help with suggestions for things to do around town. He has scrupulously researched and organized info on restaurants and activities. The property is also located very close to business district, so was convenient, but quiet and private. The Carriage House also has a separate entrance from the main house, so that added to our privacy. Loved it and would definitely stay again! read more

Everything about our two night stay at Windward House was perfect! We stayed in the lovely Coastal Garden room, with a king bed, fluffy bedding, and both air conditioning and a gas stove for use, depending on the weather. Matt and Dan were warm and welcoming and the inn itself is reflective of the beautiful little town of Camden...clean, quaint, relaxing. Oh, the blueberry pancakes at breakfast - memorable. Highly recommended B&B. My wife and I stayed for three nights during labor day weekend. Our room, the crows nest, was located in the second floor, overlooking the garden of the property. We absolutely liked the room. The owner told us when we made the reservation over the phone, that the room and bathroom is very tiny. Yes, the room might not be for everyone, because of it's size and location. We totally loved it. Room was spotless, wireless internet worked great. Every morning we enjoyed the delicious breakfast. The location of the B&B is great. It's only a 1-2 min walk to the harbor and restaurants. There is plenty of parking behind the house.
