Had a great stay at the Blackberry Inn recently. When we arrived we were greeted at the door with a friendly smile and a "welcome" by Bob (the owner). He gave us a quick tour of the inn and showed us where our room would be, and shared a multi page document with information about the area and recommendations. The entire place was warm and inviting and I was glad I made the choice to reserve the last available room here for our stay. We stayed in the Victorian which was a quaint room with a fireplace. The bed was comfy and the room was clean - what else do you need? In the morning we were served a two course own by the other owner, Cat, Bob's wife. Course 1 was grilled pineapple topped with toasted coconut and maple drizzle, yum! Course 2 included homemade blueberry waffles and sausage. They waffles were topped with a dusting of powdered sugar and were the perfect way to start my day. We had a nice stay and would certainly recommend visiting Bob and Cat's place again. read more

I really do not think that I can truly put into words how magical this Inn happens to be. You have not witnessed true hospitality until you enter it's doors. The owners are outstanding. The house has so many rooms quaintly decorated. We stayed in The Painted Lady. This sleeps 3 plus plenty of space to sit and lounge. They have complimentary tea and coffee in the foyer. They have high tea, which is an extra cost, and open to the public. We did not share in this experience but I would love to next trip. The homemade breakfast was beyond delicious. On site parking. Walking distance to downtown Camden. You know a place is outstanding when you look to return very soon. read more

We spent 4 nights with Cat & Bob and couldn't have been happier with our stay. The Birch Retreat is a spacious two room suite with a double jacuzzi tub and so many fun architectural and decorative details that I was ready to sign a lease and move in full-time. Everything was in perfect working order, clean and well-maintained, and the care that the Hobsons take in everything Inn-related was evident everywhere we looked. And then there were the BREAKFASTS! I'm sorry, crepes with flambeed orange sauce followed by a perfectly poached egg? I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. We had 4 delightful 2-course breakfasts while we were there and each one was a new surprise - all delicious. Cat kindly gave us a tour of the other rooms that were not in use before we left - the decorating that they've done is gorgeous and for a short stay, I'd be happy in any of of them, but for a longer visit, the Garden Entrance rooms can't be beat. We definitely intend to return for another winter get-away next year and would 1000% recommend. read more

What an exceptional experience! We arrived and they knew our names and had our keys and packets with Inn instructions and local food/experience info immediately ready for us. We were promptly given a tour of the property and our rooms (we had 3 people with 2 rooms). The house is run by the owners and is obviously a labor of love. The rooms are comfy, clean and beautiful. Breakfast was awesome. The ambiance is really great. We all regret not booking a longer stay and are actually planning to return because we enjoyed it so much. read more

Friendly & helpful inn-keepers, beautiful rooms, comfy beds, clean, soft linens, plenty of towels. The breakfast was excellent. Bob, owner #1, is also the cook. Alhough we gave them a 6pm notice of a need for a vegan breakfast, he did not phone it in with oatmeal & fruit. Instead it was a lovely potato-spinach-mushroom saute instead of the regular breakfast tacos (also wonderful) and he even found a coconut milk yogourt to make the parfait with. Cam, owner #2, runs a tight ship, gave us some great advice on sight-seeing and the area in general. Highly recommended. Sorry- forgot to take photos of the food before we ate it! read more

My son and I booked a room for two for our trip to Maine. At the last minute, my daughter was able to join us. So, I reached out to the inn advising of the additional guest to determine if any modifications to the reservations would need to be made. I was contacted by the owner who advised that there were no rooms that could accommodate us and that my options were to cancel my reservation along with my payment for same or receive a credit for up to six months. I live in Tennessee and have no plans to return in six months so there was only one option - cancel and lose money. Or I could have just left my daughter at home - not an option. There was another room available for a higher rate with a king bed but that it only accommodated two people. I advised the owner that we could all sleep in the king bed but that option was denied by the owner due to the rigid two people only rule. I contacted the other places we are staying, and none had an issue. This is the worst customer service I've ever experienced and would not recommend staying at Blackberry Inn. We could have simply shown up at the inn without notifying ahead of time of the additional, but I was trying to do the right thing and be honest. Honesty doesn't pay at the place obviously. We only had one night there but everything was fabulous! The entire house is charming and our room was adorable. We had to leave by 8:30 the day we checked out (to turn in a rental car and catch a flight). Cat was wonderful in getting our breakfast served promptly so we could leave on time. Historic Inn, built in the mid-1800s. They have 2 properties. One is in a lovely grey and burgundy Victorian. The other, right next door in a restored farmhouse. Very cozy. We stayed in the farmhouse. It has been restored and has about 6 suites I think. The breakfast served is great. it isn't huge but it isn't the bagel, yogurt ,cereal crap you get at other B&Bs. We had a luscious baked apple and then blueberry pancakes with fresh maple syrup and homemade sausage. The coffee is great and is always available in the lobby of the Victorian. Also a tea service. Check out is at 11 am. The staff is so nice and they let us stash our bags in the lobby while we went to the local crafts fair in Camden for a few hours. That was a big plus for us! I recommend The Blackberry Inn. It is reasonable and you can walk to town. read more

So I finally had my first Bed and Breakfast experience. And I have to say this type of lodging is not for me. I felt as if I was staying at a families members home with the restrictions that come with it. I have decided that I am a Hotel , Villa , Cabin kind of guy. But I will step out of my comfort zone and rate the BlackBerry with an open mind. The actual Inn I loved. Felt like I went back in time 100 years. Very well kept and preserved. Owners were pleasant and helpful. Parking easy. Distance to the the main fare very close. Never had the breakfast though our mission was seafood so we went out both mornings to have breakfast with some type of fish. We stayed in the painted lady room. Very nicely decorated. Doesn't have a bath just a stand up shower so that kind of turned us off a bit but not a deal breaker. The size of the room was o.k. Had a small sitting room. Now here is where we had our major issue and what has cost BlackBerry a star. The bed was as hard as a rock and i mean literally. When we arrived it looked so comfortable and inviting. So i jumped in head first. I hit my head so hard I thought I suffered a concussion. Then went on to spend two sleepless nights in this room due to the bed. I get it your supposed to sleep on a firm bed ( as per your Chiropractor ) but this was like sleeping on a slab of concrete. Also the inn was sold out so there wasn't even a chance of changing rooms. We actually started getting ready at 6:30 the day we were supposed to leave with thoughts of our bed dancing in our heads. So it will be back to Hotels for me. I do not regret trying the B&B experience. As far as i am concerned i crossed that off by bucket list. But if this is your thing and you like hard beds the Blackberry is the place to be. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Lobsterfest in Rockland, Maine and booked a room at the Blackberry Inn, located 15 minutes or so in nearby Camden, for the night. The Inn is easy to find and is colorful and cozy. The rooms are not huge, but they are quaint and comfortable. We stayed in the "Library", which is located on the first floor off of the office. We thought that was a little bit weird until we saw that all the first-floor rooms are appointed with their own exterior door so that you do not have to enter your room through one of the common rooms. The room itself was very pretty, with wallpaper and tin ceilings, hardwood floors and interesting built-in cabinetry. The restroom facilities were unique, in that there was a shower addition on the exterior wall with its own door to this little room, a toilet closet (which was literally a closet at one point) on the opposite side of the room, and a sink vanity in the sitting area. It seems like it would not be a good thing, but it actually works well for the room and was perfect for a couple. Being far away from other rooms, it was very quiet and peaceful in this space. The bed was very comfortable and I am going to hunt down a set of sheets from the same manufacturer because they were amazing. Breakfast was off the hook. Simple local ingredients made up the two-course meal, consisting of berries with a honey lime drizzle, and all American breakfast of eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast, and delicious fresh brewed coffee. The Blackberry Inn's proprietors, Bob and Cat, cooked and served. Cat also graciously called any points of interest and helped arrange for reservations for your day's activities if you needed any assistance. This Inn is not only a convenient distance from Lobsterfest, but is also walking distance to an absolutely darling downtown area complete with lots of restaurants, cafes, and shops. Upon checking in, you are given papers listing the top activities in the area as well as great places to eat. As someone who is visiting, this is very helpful. Overall, having stayed at about 10 or so different B&Bs throughout Massachusetts, Vermont, and New York, we rank this Inn among the highest. It was clean, comfortable, cozy, welcoming, and the right price. If you are shooting for a place to stay in the Rockport or Camden area, the Blackberry Inn is a great option for you. read more

This is our first B&B experience and it has set the bar really high. The owners have taken a lot of time maintaining the historic details of the place and have also paid very close attention to detail in the decor. Decorated with antiques, this place has a lot of character and charm that makes you feel at home and cozy, yet in awe with the story behind each piece of furniture and decoration. The owners and proprietors Jim and Cindy were exceptional hosts. Jim prepared the most exceptional gourmet breakfasts that were colorful, tasty and perfect. Cindy made sure we had all the creature comforts of home lending us a cooler, tour CD and map for our visit to Acadia national park which we thoroughly enjoyed. We got excellent restaurant recommendations as well as sights to see while on our trip. Conversations were also great learning about the history of the place, Camden and nearby things. Our room was the most cozy place with a fireplace, seating and antique decor that was just the right balance. the reason I am writing this review is to complain about the older woman who works there. SO RUDE! I tried to let it go, but later my uncle complained about her as well, saying she was one of the rudest women he'd come across in a while. Not cool lady! I had just gotten done with an intense 15 mile bike ride and needed a second key to my shared room to shower for my dinner reservations. First, she hesitates to even let me in the hotel. And when she does let me in she makes me take a seat in the lobby. She turns to two other arriving guests and says, "sorry i know youve been waiting so patiently," and then proceeds to give them a tour of the entire house. Finally she comes over and hands me a key from the desk I had been waiting next to and tells me sternly she will be making a note of us having two keys. I certainly did not feel like a welcomed guest. No one wants to pay for a place to stay only to feel second rate to another guest. read more

I loved EVERYTHING about the Blackberry Inn in Camden, Maine! The building is gorgeous - inside and out. Has a great history. Three block walk to downtown - very convenient and yet away from the downtown traffic. I can't say enough about the breakfasts. Don't come here if you want the same boring standard breakfast every day. Each morning was a new two-course breakfast better than any I've had in gourmet restaurants. Rooms were VERY clean - beds super comfy - great showers. Lots of little extras. Best part was the hard-working staff. VERY friendly and helpful. Best personalities of any innkeepers I've ever met. My wife and I truly enjoyed our overnight (too short a stay) at the Blackberry Inn. We have been guests at a number of inns over the years and the Blackberry Inn was one of our favorites. The inn keepers are a charming couple that made us feel welcome from arrival to departure. Catherine greeted us at the door and showed us to our room while giving us a brief history of the inn as well as making sure we had everything we needed for our evening. The Inn's location is perfect for walking tours of Camden. We enjoyed our afternoon tour of the town and dined in one of our favorite local restaurants. The next morning we enjoyed a lovely two course breakfast during which we made Bob's acquaintance when he checked to ensure that everything was prepared to our liking (it was). We had a chance to visit with Bob and Cat before our departure. They are a warm and interesting couple, easy to be around, with a strong knowledge of the inn's history. Maine is one of our favorite places to escape the summer heat of the Mid-Atlantic and Camden is often our destination. We've stayed at a different inn each time we've visited the town. We look forward to returning to the Blackberry Inn again for our next stay. read more

If you are looking to stay in the BEAUTIFUL town of Camden, ME, this is the place to stay. The room we stayed in was very tasteful. The chef, Jim Ostrowski, is magnificent. He serves a complimentary breakfast every morning to all of his guests. Each breakfast comes with a first course followed by an entree course so that guests are well fed. One of our starters during our stay was a cinnamon apple puff pastry shaped into a rose. Delectable. I ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture! Another one of my favorite breakfasts, was the French toast with a blackberry compote and bacon. The bacon was cooked perfectly. Additionally, I probably had an overload of the delicious Acadia blend coffee. The servers are attentive and made sure we had full cups! As for our room, splendid. The bed was extremely comfortable as well as cleaned. It made me feel like I was in a home away from home. The rooms are also cleaned everyday--that's convenient because I happen to be a messy traveler. One of the innkeepers, Cindy, made sure our room was exactly how we wanted it during our check in. She is a very hospitable lady. She told us about her garden, it looked lovely from what we saw; however we couldn't get a great walk through since it rained many of the days we were here. My wife and I stayed at the Blackberry Inn in Camden Aug. 24/25, 2013. It was the first time we had been in Camden and we were looking forward to exploring some of Maine's fine coast, and the quaint little Seaport towns of Camden, Rockport and Rockland. The Inn is right on the main road leading into Camden, so it's easy to find and an easy 2 block stroll down into the center of the Camden village, quaint shops and restaurants. The area is Lobstah heaven, so plan on eating Lobster while you're there. We were greeted by the Innkeepers Jim and Cyndi and the Inn is absolutely beautiful. It is a wonderful antique home that is just meticulously maintained. We stayed in the Betty Davis room and yes, she really did stay there. All of the accommodations are excellent. The bedding is beautiful, the baths are very nice, and our room was beautifully furnished. Everything about the Blackberry is top shelf. The soaps and shampoos in the room are Gilchrist and Soames (This is high end that you only find in a 5 star hotel.) Jim loves coffee and so do I and the coffee for breakfast is excellent. The breakfast were delicious and artfully presented, all local fresh ingredients. Jim made it a point of making special waffle batter for my wife's food needs. The service was perfect. The rates were very reasonable for accommodations of this caliber and in the region. We will come back again. Down the street at the harbor we took a one hour cruise on the LovelyLady, and that was great too. We got a lesson in pulling up a Lobster trap, how to tell males from females and if they're pregnant and big enough. The cruise was beautiful and just long enough. We also had dinner at Crabby's Chowder House which was very good. The next evening at Fresh I had Lobster Ravioli! Yummy! Check out the Owls Head Transportation Museum if you go! If you like old motorcycles, cars and airplanes, you will love this place! All in all 5 stars for the Blackberry Inn and the Camden/Rockland area in general. read more

My wife and I stayed at the Blackberry Inn for 2 nights in late October. We are experienced travelers and have stayed at a number of B&B's over the years. This was our best experience yet. I selected the Blackberry Inn from online reviews. The reviews indicated that ownership had changed shortly before we booked our stay and the new owners, Catherine and Bob, received lovely reviews on how hard they tried to make the guests stays memorable. We found that to be true and even more. On arrival we were greeted by Catherine who was enthusiastic, friendly and outgoing. The Inn is great, well maintained and meticulous. The history of the building is evident but Catherine was happy to explain it to us. The plaster and tin ceilings are marvels. We stayed in the Salon room. It was nice size, the bed was comfortable and the room was immaculate. The location is convenient to town and to visit the surrounding area. Catherine suggested we visit some lighthouses and gave us a handout of the various lighthouses in the area. It was a great help. Breakfast in the morning was from menus created by Catherine and Bob and they are happy to try some wonderful combinations. Everything was outstanding. Catherine and Bob are loving their new careers in the hospitality industry and their enthusiasm and love for what they are doing is felt by the guests. We are looking forward to another trip to the Maine coast and a stay at the Blackberry Inn. read more

This review is way overdue, but I guess better late than never! My boyfriend and I came to the Inns at Blackberry Commons for Memorial Day this year (2012) and we had an absolutely amazing stay. Jim and Cyndi were amazing hosts and helped us plan our activities. We even got to borrow binoculars for our sail on the harbor! We ordered a picnic lunch from the kitchen one day and were amazed at how delicious it was! My boyfriend had the lobster roll and couldn't stop raving about it. Breakfast each morning was fantastic... baked pears, waffles, shortcake, eggs... yum! The Inn itself is beautiful and Jim gave us a nice tour when we arrived. Our room was comfortable and the gardens are beautiful. The location is perfect and you can walk right to the center of the town! All in all it was an unforgettable weekend and we can't wait to go back next year! read more

This place was average. We liked the location because we could walk into town (5 or 6 blocks), our room was clean, and we enjoyed eating the blackberries, but we received bad service at breakfast. The staff were neglectful and downright rude at times. The breakfast itself was okay. The owner's at the inn are not good at accommodating dietary restrictions (even though they mention it on the website and breakfast menu). This place is not bug-infested or dirty. It is fine to stay here if you don't have any expectations and just need a place to sleep. We don't generally travel for the lodging anyway. The truth is, I wouldn't have even written this review if the breakfast staff had not been so rude, inept, and neglectful (we had to change our plans one day because they kept us at breakfast so long). Camden, ME is beautiful. I had a lovely travel companion and the experiences we had in the Camden area will bring us many years of fond memories and laughter. read more

Our stay at the Inns at Blackberry Common was without a doubt miserable. Our room in the Blackberry Inn was the Blackberry Bramble. It was on the second floor with two twin beds. Arriving shortly after check-in time, along with others, we were shuffled into the parlor and ignored for quite awhile. Sitting on the stained furniture was uncomfortable. No beverages or anything was offered after a long day of travel. Eventually an older gentleman approached us with conversation. Discovering that this person was an Inn employee--or is he an owner??--(he did not introduce himself,) I had to ask for a glass of water. They apparently were out of bottled water while we were there. A large grocery store is across the street Seeing our room was a disappointment. Very small, no place to put toiletries in water closet. There were no televisions in any of the rooms on this floor which I noticed when trying to find soap for our lavatory. One small generic bar was found in the bathtub room off the hall. This was our private bathroom. Not shared. We will survive. Time to return to our B and B after a pleasant day and early evening in Camden. It was 9:30p.m. There are no goodies like cookies, coffee, hot chocolate--------only an honor refrigerator with soda in it and an opened bottle of white wine. A bottle of red wine was also opened. No coffee anywhere. Forget about ice...that would be too common. There are no people around. No music at any time, no congeniality. Bringing a glass of wine downstairs from our room, expecting to enjoy it outside on the patio was a disappointment. There was no patio furniture and no lights. There is a small 13 inch tv inside the public room. Perhaps we can get information on the most recent hurricane that may threaten our vacation. Forget that!! The television has a constant buzzing noise and cannot receive signals from many channels. What's left to do for these two night-owls? It's just after 10 p.m. Bedtime? Oh no, the window air conditioner is sucking in several mosquitoes and other bugs. A spider has made it's nest with others in the corner of the ceiling above the head of one of the beds. While trying to kill the spider, it fell on top of a ledge built around the walls just a few feet from the ceiling. Removing it stirred up lots of dust which fell on top of the bed in the small room. While looking for the second spider that had escaped, we removed a wall hanging to inspect. It was dusty and accumulating all over the backside was mold and mildew. After a few laughs about our 'luck', we did away with the 'winter comforters' --outside temp is 78 degrees. Time to relax and get some sleep. Sure enough, what I felt earlier while sitting on this bed is indeed a mattress with broken springs right in the area where I had back surgery a few months ago. I laugh, trying to find a comfortable area. There is none. My daughter discovers my dilemma and changes beds with me. Her mattress also is broken down in the same spot. That's it. I will not pay for accommodations like this. We will leave this place first thing in the morning. When informing the proprietor of the problem with the beds, there was much discussion about the "one year old mattresses that no one has ever complained about." The tag on them had a 2001 date and a brand name which is unheard of. It really does not matter, they are both broken. At this time, the proprietor agreed not to charge me for our stay. Sure enough, when my credit card bill arrived, I was charged for the one night stay. After some argumentative conversation about the beds which Cindy claims have since been used without any complaints, I am told my account will be credited. I cannot rate the food at this place as we were not at all interested in staying for breakfast. Footnote for innkeepers: I have found that most people do not like confrontation. This could be the reason for no complaints about the beds in this room. Do inspect them yourselves to make sure they are what they should be, "a comfortable bed ". This ruined my adventure in Camden and no doubt gave the folks at Blackberry Inn a bit of frustration. read more

We went to the Inn for the first night of our honeymoon and were disappointed in the Inn. We loved Camden but the Inn was not up to what we wanted. The room was small and a lot of street noise, the staff was not very helpful or friendly (until the last day when one of the owners helped check us out) and definitely didn't do anything for our honeymoon (including not setting up the massages we had asked for), and the cost for that time of year was not great. So if you are looking for something special, this isn't the place. The location is convenient to walk downtown. read more

My fiance and I went with another couple in mid-September, before the crowds of leaf season and after summer. The inn is a 19th century building with a lot of charm. The rooms are fairly small but well-appointed, including bathrobes in the wardrobe. The bed was extremely comfortable (nice and firm) and the sheets were luxurious. The bathroom had plenty of cupboard space for personal toiletries. The best part of the experience was the warmth of the innkeepers, Jim and Cyndi. They really make you feel that you are wanted. Jim was a wealth of information about nearby bike routes. There are lots of nice touches, such as the free tea and coffee (and sometimes cookies) that are available all day, and an honor bar for wine. Jim makes delicious breakfasts. On Sunday it was scrumptious waffles. On Monday a small portion of steelcut oatmeal and fruit and then an omelet. A very pleasant and romantic place to stay in beautiful Camden. read more
