Their breakfasts are amazing (and Dave is willing to share his recipes) 5. They attract repeat guests that are also super nice (we hope to become repeat guests ourselves) 6. It's not a huge -- it's a more intimate and quiet B&B that can accomodate all of their breakfast guests in one seating 7. They have their own chickens (and fresh eggs) 8. Lots of little/nice touches that add up to a wonderful stay Based on the various reviews on several sites we looked at before we booked our trip, we had every reason to suspect we would love our stay at Abigails. We were not disappointed!

The suite was spacious, extremely clean, and featured an amazing shower and an incredibly comfortable bed. We also happened to be visiting during an unusual heat wave, and the air conditioning did an impressive job--which was no small feat given the suite's two-story layout and high ceilings. Coming back to a cool, comfortable room each afternoon and evening was something we appreciated even more than we expected. The breakfasts each morning tasted every bit as good as they looked and kept us full until dinnertime! My husband was running late our first morning (we struggled to adjust from West Coast time), and Matt and Jessica kindly prepared an off-menu breakfast sandwich for him to enjoy later (which was fantastic, by the way). Admittedly, we weren't the most punctual breakfast guests during our stay, yet they couldn't have been more gracious about it. That level of flexibility and kindness certainly did not go unnoticed. Speaking of the innkeepers, I was impressed by how they managed to strike the perfect balance of being warm and welcoming without ever being over the top. They seemed to take their cue from each guest, happily engaging in conversation when invited while also giving everyone plenty of space to enjoy their stay. In my opinion, that can be one of the trickiest parts of staying at a bed-and-breakfast, but Matt and Jessica absolutely nailed it. The inn itself is beautifully maintained, with thoughtful details throughout that make it feel welcoming and special without being stuffy or pretentious. I kept thinking of it as "understated pampering". The location is also ideal--an easy walk to Camden Harbor, shops, and restaurants, while serving as a perfect home base for exploring the many beautiful destinations within an hour's drive. It's clear that Matt and Jessica genuinely care about creating an exceptional experience for their guests. We left feeling relaxed, well cared for, and hoping we might find a reason to return in the future. We highly recommend the Captain Swift Inn!

Ed and Joan, the Innkeepers, made us feel very welcome and were very informative. The location is perfect for anyone taking a morning Ferry to Vinalhaven or North Haven. It is also convenient for a walk through Rockland's beautiful downtown shopping area. Most of the rooms have a view of the harbor. We chose a room without that view but found it perfect for our one night stay. The room was spotless, had a comfortable bed, plenty of drawer space and a private bathroom. There is 24 hour coffee and tea station and a welcoming front room full of reading materials, games, and other interesting items. The front porch is another perfect place to relax and view the harbor. Ed is also the chef and served a wonderful breakfast of tomato and broccoli frittata, mixed fruit, fresh baked muffins and scones. Breakfast also included Ed's very tasty cornmeal pancakes, which I topped off with genuine Maine Maple syrup! We will become regulars as we return to Vinalhaven Island each year to visit our family. And have already recommended it to other family members headed to the island!

She was so friendly and went above and beyond in discussing which area restaurants and attractions would best suit us. We woke up both mornings, to a delicious homemade breakfast which was served on the beautiful and glistening sun porch while lovely classical music played in the background. The service that was provided by both mother (Kim) and daughter (Lauren) was exquisite and warm. Our room was bright, sunny, clean and just the right size for the two of us, as was the private bathroom. Each room was decorated beautifully with vintage type plates throughout...a theme soooo fitting for the style and feel of this home. A special addition to our "sweet" stay, were the delicious home baked cookies that were left out in the afternoon. They were so good that we would peak around the corner each time we arrived back to the house, with hopes of seeing a new batch! Don't forget to visit the Cellar Door Winery in neighboring Lincolnville. Everything worked in our Snug Harbor Suite to perfection. Housekeeping did a great job each morning cleaning and replacing whatever was needed. The innkeepers, Matt and Michelle are warm and some of the nicest people you will ever meet. From the moment we booked our reservation, they began making us part of their family. Just talking to them and some of the other guests about life was relaxing and therapeutic. Since we are avid hikers Greg recommended the Mount Battie trail which is within walking distance from the hotel. Elliott has a true entrepreneurial spirit and is very knowledgeable about the Inn and the area despite his young age. It was a pleasure staying here.
