The home/bed and breakfast was a beautiful place. The grounds were beautiful and the home was very well kept. Location was ideal. We were very disappointed in the breakfast and access to the butlers pantry. The breakfast was not at all close to what is depicted on the website. Very little food...not even a full adult breakfast (one very thin waffle and three small slices of sausage). No granola and yogurt or food comparable to what is advertised on the website. The website says there are items available in the evening, but all we could find was a jar of prepackaged cookies. Also, the butler pantry is closed in the middle of the day, so no access to anything placed in the fridge, the ice, the water, or coffee. I've stayed at many bed and breakfasts in New England and around the country and this one was disappointing, to say the least. We had gathered with many of our friends for the weekend who stayed at Timbercliff and at other B&Bs in Camden. All had nothing but great things to say about the large breakfasts, hosts, accommodations. We and our friends who stayed at Timbercliffe were disappointed. Other notes: * No information shared with us on housekeeping (fresh towels? do they come in every day or not...just wanted to know) * Never officially met Kevin (one of the owners/hosts). Even though we stayed for three nights and he served breakfast to us without saying much. I would not recommend if you have options of staying elsewhere. I very much wanted to love this place, but sadly, we walked away disappointed because our expectations were what we saw on the website, which vastly differed from reality. read more

I had the most wonderful stay at Timbercliffe cottage. What a PHENOMENAL bed & breakfast. The property is absolutely GORGEOUS-- the house is stunning. The patio is massive and the views of the ocean are amazing. I wish I could sit on the patio for a month with a glass of wine and a book. The hosts are welcoming and lovely-- they made sure we had everything we needed at all times. The breakfast is absolutely DELICIOUS and we were so excited every morning to eat. Thank you so much! Our stay was very enjoyable, although just an overnight...Kevin and Lucia were gracious hosts, who were very pleasant and inviting. We had a rather small room, Captain Pendelton, but it was cozy and we had our own private bath. Everything was neat, clean, and organized. The bed was super comfortable. We had breath-taking views of the ocean that we thoroughly enjoyed! The common areas were beautifully appointed in the colonial genre, with a roaring fireplace in each room to add to the charm. A fully stocked Butler's pantry had coffee, tea, cookies, an ice machine, and refrigerator for our use. In the morning, our two course breakfast was delicious; prepared by the owners themselves. Only one small complaint, was that the bedroom was a little too warm, but the innkeepers told us ahead of time...we were able to open the bedroom and bath windows to cool it down. We plan to return to Timbercliffe Cottage this summer with our daughter to enjoy the warm summer weather on their inviting porch! read more

One of the best B&B's that my wife and I have ever stayed at! Dave and Karen were great hosts with interesting stories to tell and great suggestions on things to do in the area. It was just the right distance from downtown Camden -- close enough to walk, but far enough away to make us feel like we weren't in the downtown area. We stayed in the 1620 Chamber and loved the king-size bed and the firmness of the mattress. The popovers that Karen made for breakfast one morning (when she had wake up at 4 AM to start getting them ready) were the best ever! The pantry being stocked with soda and bottled water was also a very nice touch and something we really appreciated. read more

Timbercliffe Cottage is a delightful B&B in Camden. Dave and Karen are so warm and welcoming - I felt like I was in my own home (ok, let's face it, I'd really rather live there). The rooms are spacious and well done (and super clean). The B&B has a library, living room and a well stocked pantry with soda, water, coffee and delicious snacks! There's also a nice ice machine if you want to keep wine or food cold in your room. I've stayed at many B&Bs, and I have to say that this is one of the best. The breakfast was wonderfully delicious (and for those of you who complain about the set time....it's #1 delicious, #2 we're adults and can get up at 8am and #3, if you don't like it, get a muffin and coffee later!). The B&B was warm and cozy. I wish the weather would have been a bit less rainy as I would have really utilized the front porch! Dave and Karen were really friendly and helped with restaurant recommendations, ideas for sight seeing, and were generally friendly and chatty. I really felt like I was at home - this was a wonderful feeling (Karen followed me out offering an umbrella one day!). Definitely a must stay! Great spot, close to town and beautiful!!! read more

This wonderful B&B is a very short drive (actually a nice walk) out of Camden ( which is a delightful small town with many restaurants and eclectic shops). Classic styles and appointments. You'll mainly want to stay at this bed & breakfast for its looks --both of the ocean and of their generous breakfast--, but you'll be rather happier with your choice once you meet the lovely couple that runs it. Amid the pandemic, they gladly received us at our late check-in time and proceeded with a socially distant brief orientation about the place. My husband and I were able to wander around all of their rooms, not just our bedroom for the week. Though housekeeping wasn't offered at the moment so as to obey Maine's public health crisis guidelines, we were offered fresh towels and toiletries every day. We didn't need them but it was nice of them to check. Strategically, their location is mid-way between Portland, ME and the Acadia National Park: 1h 30 min drive to both of them. It's perfect if you're in the area for a limited time and wish to split your time between the two. In short, this bed & breakfast is a full mood: yummy blueberry pancakes, freshly brewed dark coffee, and the long view of the Atlantic in the morning. We ought to have some more of Timbercliffe, just like we had more breakfast every single day. read more

It's been awhile since I stayed here, but I tell anyone and everyone about it when they ask what it's like in Maine. We came to this bed and breakfast from another one after deciding to extend our trip for another day. The previous B&B was frilly, annoying, a little creepy, a little weird, and the wife of the couple was oddly insistent that we all be at breakfast at 8:15 on the dot each morning. Ah, relaxing! It was like the kind of vacation a Nazi might enjoy. But then we found this place, and immediately regretted not staying here in the first place. Dave and Karen, the owners, are so sweet and cool. They make you feel so comfortable and welcome. Their breakfast kicks so much butt, and since it was summer, we enjoyed in on their gorgeous patio. They also have an adorable dog, Caffrey. Instead of being frilly and disgusting like many B&Bs, the decor is warm and inviting. They've done an amazing job making this place like your home away from home. If you're going to Maine, staying anywhere other than this place would make you a total sucker. read more

Summary: You should go, both to Camden, and to Timbercliffe Cottage. My wife and I snuck up to Camden from Massachusetts this past Memorial Day and enjoyed our stay with Dave and Karen--and we had the inn to ourselves! How was it great and empty? We had the same question. They told us Trip Advisor changed their algorithm, knocking them way down the rankings, despite raving reviews, in favor of larger places! I don't know about you, but I want to stay in small B&Bs. This was our first trip to Camden, which exceeded our expectations. My wife and I have been to about 6 B&Bs now across Maine, and Timbercliffe stands with the best of them. So move quick and book a room while there's availability, before the Internet fixes its mistake! The only thing negative about the place? Well if we're being picky, our room, The Goodwife Mary, didn't have any sort of closet, so we lived out of our suitcase. The room is from the 1700s and has settled (read: floors are no longer level) watch your step! Lastly, their free WiFi for their guests is password free, and as such, is insecure. The technologist in me couldn't get over the fact that someone technically could be intercepting my traffic. Easy fix though (enable a password and WPA security, usually a click or two of work)! None of this is obviously enough to deduct a star (or even a half). But I like to be really thorough in my reviews. read more

Timbercliffe Lodge is a beautiful place to stay with warm welcoming owners. I highly recommend it! One of us was celebrating a birthday, and Dave and Karen had some delicious truffles waiting for us when we arrived. Dave gave us the lay of the land, showed us our deluxe room (the Chauncey Keep room), and then allowed us to enjoy the peace and quiet. The view from our room was stunning, as is the view from the porch, and the breakfast was delicious--blueberry french toast! Dave also recommended a great kayak rental place called DuckTrap that set us up with a two-person kayak for a great price. We're already trying to decide when we can come back! read more

This is a lovely B&B run by the nicest couple, Dave and Karen. They were so accomodating and friendly. The check-in and check-out process was super easy. We had to leave early before they served the full breakfast so Karen had baked us homemade banana muffins to go which were FABULOUS! Not to mention's Karen's awesome cooking skills with the breakfast. The house has a really nice porch to enjoy the weather and ocean view. I will definitely be staying again at this place when I go back to Camden. read more

My wife and I recently returned from a wonderful vacation with the first leg of our trip bringing us to Timbercliffe Cottage, Camden, Maine. As a major contributor to both YELP and Trip Advisor, my comments are offered in the interest of assisting other travelers (and Yelpers) in making their decisions prior to booking their place of lodging. While my observations are not complaint related, they simply point out items that were favorable and those that may need some attention. The Inn: The Innkeepers are Dave and Karen, both warm, welcoming, and hospitable. We felt right at home shortly after meeting them. Both are hands-on Owner/Manager/Chef/Servers and pull all of this off with ease. The cottage itself sits on a high bluff conveniently overlooking the village of Camden. Each guest is afforded a parking spot directly in front of the Inn. You will not have to concern yourself with tight, crowded parking conditions anytime of the day or evening as an open parking spot will always be available. The Inn is surrounded by lush vegetation and mature trees with the entrance pathway bordered by flowers. The inviting full raised porch offers several comfortable seating options; swing, comfy cushioned wicker chairs and sofas, tables and is illuminated in the evening. The first floor consists of authentic period furnishings including a Family Room complete with a working fireplace and inviting seating. A separate Sitting Room is positioned just to the other side of the entrance and is similar to a Reading Room or Library with similar comfortable seating and period furnishings. A large dining room is off to one side of the first floor and is always set with a full complement of place settings. (The temps and humidity were high during our visit. Breakfast then, was served outside on one end of the porch. This created a natural setting where everyone enjoyed meeting one another for conversation and great breakfast fare.) Our Guest Room: We reserved a room on the upper floor, a short climb which brought us to The Goodman Jesse Thomas Chamber Room featuring a romantic canopied Queen-sized bed. We found the bedding and linens to be of excellent quality; the mattress and pillows provided us with a wonderful sleep. Both night stands were equipped with lamps. Reading lights were clipped onto both sides of the headboard, a nice useful touch. A small sofa and bench offered seating. A secretary with chair was also placed in our room. AC consisted of a window unit which worked very well. The bathroom was quite large. Water pressure was very strong and hot water came up right away. This particular bathroom has a large claw-foot tub with a shower curtain surround. It should be noted that extra care must be taken when showering as there is not much to grab onto in the event of a slip. (The bottom of the tub is quite narrow since it may not have been designed to be used as a shower. Also, the plastic shower curtain tends to stick to your wet body due to surface tension as it totally surrounds you.) My suggestions for improving this room would be to add a chest of drawers so guests could unpack their bags. The Innkeepers may have already procured such a piece following our departure. Several large coat hooks are affixed to the wall near the bed. We used these with hangers to hang some of our clothes. Also, installing some sort of grab bar that protrudes into the tub area would be prudent. Breakfast: I give the breakfast FIVE STARS. To us, breakfast is the best part of a B & B. We were served a different dish each morning. Karen served fruit cups first, followed by a main dish which consisted of baked omelets, pancakes, french toast, and more. Bacon or sausage with pieces of fruit adorned our plates each morning as well. Fresh brewed coffee and tea was also served along with two kinds of morning juices. Our place settings were artfully arranged; heavy silver plate utensils and cloth napkins completed the service. Now this is how a B & B breakfast was meant to be! Visiting the Village of Camden: Again, these comments are only informative in nature; some travelers may contemplate walking down into the village. This can be done. However, the traffic along Rt.1 can be busy at times. Hint: Drive South on Rt.1. Just after the left hand turn heading into town, look for the library on your left. Turn here. Turn left again into the library parking lot. No meters. Your car will be safe here. Then walk out along the pathways towards the water and shops. We thoroughly enjoyed Timbercliffe Cottage and Dave and Karen's hospitality. Got to meet their Golden Retriever just before we departed for Canada, a real sweetie. We recommend this place of lodging for it's genuine charm, quiet surroundings, comfort, and the fresh-cooked cuisine that comes out of Karen's kitchen. We would not hesitate to visit with them again. Amazing experience! Dave and Karen are so warm and friendly. We were the only people staying for the night, so they upgraded our room. We had truffles, champagne, and freshly baked cookies waiting for us. The location was fabulous, and the inn was very clean and well kept. The breakfast was amazing! Went here again while in town for a conference. Stayed in one of the largest rooms in the house overlooking the ocean to the east. Incredible sunrise views. Breakfast has gotten even better and the house has stayed as warm, cozy, and uncluttered as always. A fantastic stay, all around. Dave and Karen did a great job. Breakfasts were marvelous (we even got the recipe for their exquisite waffles!), the advice on restaurants and points of interest was spot on, and they did a great job of staying out of our way when we wanted privacy but being available when we wanted some advice on the town. It's a rustic house with appropriate decor, but plenty of modern touches in the guest pantry (including a great little coffee machine). It's just north of Camden proper, to keep out of the way of the tourist hustle and bustle. Great trip up there, and great hosts. read more

Dave and Karen are wonderful keepers of this 5-star quality B&B just outside the town center of Camden, ME. Our expectations are now set higher after our wonderful experience. We stayed for the 4th of July weekend, in the bedroom with ocean views, King bed, sitting area near a fireplace, and bathroom en suite. Breakfast each morning was creative and delicious, and guests were all relaxed and interested in conversation. Dave and Karen gave us tips on where to explore, where to find the best lobster, and how to take our bikes into town. The details such as the high end bedding, to the perfect plumbing in an old home earns the highest of ratings for their B&B. The only detail to improve would be to serve fresh-squeezed orange juice! We will definitely return for our next mid-coast Maine trip. read more
