I don't think I could love the Belfast Harbor Inn more. My husband and I decided to get out of Portland and booked a four-night stay at this restful and lovely spot in Belfast. Highlights: Our room was super comfortable and big, with a couch and comfy chair section right next to sliding glass doors that went out onto a small balcony (too cold) with a beautiful view of the ocean. There is a complimentary breakfast every morning that includes quiche, in-house baked croissants, and cinnamon rolls! There is coffee and tea available all-day There is an indoor pool PERFECT for exercise and a big hot tub surrounded by big windows also overlooking the ocean. This is a lovely little place! Our room and bathroom were immaculate and the bed was very comfortable. The toiletries supplied were of excellent quality and the bathroom had big fluffy towels. Breakfast is included, and instead of the standard buffet, where everyone is handling the serving utensils, you request your food at a window. The quiche are made in house, and the broccoli one I ordered was fluffy, piping hot, and delicious. I enjoyed my breakfast in the dining room overlooking the water. read more

All in all Belfast Harbor Inn is wonderful! The staff is very friendly & helpful, the hotel is spotless & complimentary continental breakfast is included. The little things that may be tiny irritants lol...We paid extra to get a king bed instead of two queens. The halls are incredibly brightly lit so if you are sensitive to lights be forewarned. The bed slanted downward toward the headrest wooohooo. The towels are made for tiny people & I am pretty small. The halls & walls play off of any sound so you hear a lot. Aside from the little nuances that didn't really bother us the room & bathroom were spotless with a bed, TV, siting area with a couch, little counter with coffee maker & mini fridge, everything you could need in the bathroom, and a lovely view of the harbor. Breakfast was delicious with excellent coffee, homemade quiches, muffins & scones & you could sit Al fresco & enjoy the morning fog on the water. We were heading to Acadia NP and didn't want to deal with the mad crowds and twee joints in Bar Harbor so we ended up booking a room at this small, immaculate hotel. The space is roomy with a pleasing view (unfortunately it rained so we weren't able to enjoy it much). Breakfast is simple but fresh, and I love that they showcase some local ingredients. We stayed here for two nights at the beginning of this week and could not be happier with our stay! The hotel is lovingly updated, the staff were helpful and kind like you were staying with family, and the amenities were clean and cozy! We were huge fans of breakfast, which was delicious and perfect and complimentary. Keep this place exactly as it is because it is 100% perfect and a hidden gem! Fabulous hotel! We booked online through Expedia and didn't really know what to expect other than that it had good reviews on TripAdvisor. The hotel is brand new, and very nicely done. Every room is very tastefully decorated and the back half of the hotel looks over the Belfast bay. We didn't have the view side, but we got to enjoy the view from the lovely breakfast room. They have a really nice indoor pool and hot tub. It looks like there is also an outdoor pool out front for in the nicer months. It was closed up of course during our stay in leaf peeping season. The breakfast was EXCELLENT. They have a variety of home made egg quiches, handmade pastries, oatmeal and toppings, fruit, yogurt and great New England coffee! Definitely the best complimentary hotel breakfast I've ever had!!! Service is very friendly too. Nice hotel, clean and attractive. I think it was renovated fairly recently. We had a second floor balcony room, and the view of the harbor was pleasant. The balconies are private; you may hear you neighbors, but you won't see them. The breakfasts were a cut above many places we've stayed, and the eating area was nice, especially the patio. The staff we encountered were very polite. It is located on Route 1, so the harbor side, where we stayed, may be quieter. It is only a few minutes drive to downtown Belfast. Of special note, the AC unit was a split installed in the wall, and it was VERY quiet. I wish all hotels had these units. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. I recently stayed at the inn and was extremely disappointed. The room was very dusty and the bathroom fan stayed on all night. There were numerous stains on the rug and the tub was filthy. I cannot imagine what this place looks like during the tourist season, but it was certainly subpar and definitely not worth 186.00 a night in January. Let me start by saying there was nothing wrong with the room itself - it was fairly large and furnished like a typical Best Western Plus, and was clean and well-maintained. The desk was friendly and tried to be helpful. My problem here was their handling of pets. This hotel allows pets and has a group of rooms that they use for that purpose. The issue is that these rooms are immediately adjacent to non-pet rooms, and we happened to be put into one that was right next to a yappy dog. The staff handled the problem but my gripe is that since the hotel was half-empty, these adjacent rooms should not have been used at all. That way no one will have to go to the trouble of switching rooms. I have a general dislike of pet-friendly motels and try to avoid them when I can, and I will not return here if there is anything else available. read more

Wow...hands down one of my most favorite hotels I have ever stayed at. First off, the customer service is phenomenal. The older gentleman working at the counter when we arrived was polite, accommodating and so friendly. The hotel itself looked to be brand new. Our room was amazing! Everything was brand new from the bathroom to the furniture to the sliding door and adorable balcony overlooking the harbor. We stayed in a king junior suite for our stay. The air conditioner was freezing (which we love) and super quiet. The curtains were room-darkening which are great for those of us who like to sleep a little late on vacation! Room came equipped with the essentials, coffee maker, actually pretty delicious coffee, microwave, and large fridge, all on a beautiful granite counter with plenty of cabinet space. The pool was huge, clean, and heated !! There was a shallow end as well as a deeper end that actually went to 9ft deep. We did have to skim the pool ourselves one afternoon but in the hotel's defense, there were men doing landscaping so a few grass clippings here and there found their way into the pool! This hotel is dog friendly and while we didn't have any dogs of our own on the trip, plenty of guests brought theirs. There is a huge grassy area in front of the harbor for dogs to run and play on. There was a complimentary breakfast served 6-9am but we missed it both mornings! However I do understand they have the typical items; cereal, bagels, muffins, pastries, etc. Plenty of parking here and there is plenty to do around the area. The hotel is off a main road so you can't really walk to places. There is a big but unfortunately closed restaurant on the harbor right next door to the hotel, which would have been a great spot to walk to and dine if it were open! Young's Lobster Pound is a minute drive with waterfront dining if you want some fresh Maine lobsters and clams. A little further into Belfast is Bell the Cat- highly recommended for breakfast and coffee, with the added bonus of live music in the morning! The Belfast art district is a short drive with tons of little shops for whatever you may need- souvenirs, food, icecream, clothes, used or new books, and other odds and ends (lots of vintage and handmade craft shops). Also a bar (I believe it was called Rollie's) with an awesome selection of craft beer on tap. There is also the Belfast Co-op which is for those of you who miss your Whole Foods when you're away from home, complete with a deli, bakery, and made-to-order meals like soups and sandwiches. The ONLY thing I had an issue with, which may not be a deal to some if any, was that the sliding glass door had no screen door as well. We would've liked to leave the door wide open to get some of that fresh ocean air into the room, especially on cooler nights. However, the second you open that door there's always the bugs that want to come right in so unfortunately, the sliding door remained closed when not in use. Hands down, I would not only stay here again, but I am already recommending it to my family and friends. All rooms very recently, and tastefully, remodeled. Book direct to make sure you get ocean (Belfast Bay) view. It's worth it unless on a tight budget. On ground level you are 4' feet up with risk of parked cars slightly impinging on your view. On return I think I would choose 2nd floor (2 floors total). It's a 5 minute drive from heart of town, and you will hear road noise if sliders are open, but the view is to die for and when you walk across the huge green lawn you have direct access to walk on quiet beach to pick rocks and sea glass. They serve a continental breakfast and there is a decent (not great) restaurant next door with indoor or outdoor seating. Kids can play on huge lawn, swim in bay (with parental supervision and flip flops for rocky beach), or the small pool. It's not New England quaint but its a very nice place and delivers if clean and modern is what you want. read more

Great location, a short walk to the rocky beach, nice pool, free coffee, clean room, reasonable rate. What's not to like?

More of a motel than a traditional New England inn, it's still a nice place to stay. Corey F. and I stopped here around midnight or so one night I just couldn't make the drive all the way home to Bostonish, and they were very, very kind. We paid a very reasonable rate for a no-reservation room (I want to say it was ~$69?), and we got 2 beds (all they had), very clean microwave and fridge, TV, small bathroom with toiletries, a private balcony, and snacks. It was super clean, and while the bed was a bit firmer than I'd like, I was still more than comfortable enough to sleep in. We woke up very, very early to leave, and while the continental breakfast didn't technically start until 6am, the woman working the front desk encouraged us to go ahead and help ourselves even though it was an hour early. The breakfast room is really big and bright when the sun comes up, there's a lovely outdoor seating area, and the continental breakfast offerings are standard (fresh fruits, yogurts, cereals, OJ, cranberry juice cocktail, breads for toast, peanut butter, jelly, butter, pastries, coffee, tea), but really well stocked. If you're ever stuck in Maine the middle of the night and need a place to crash, I'd highly recommend this place. I bet it's really nice for a regular stay, too. :) read more

Make sure you get a room with "ocean view" (read: "bay view"). When you sit on the porch you can look out over Penobscot Bay...very relaxing. The porch is shared with other rooms. The hotel is actually a little bit outside of Belfast, on the other side of the bay. The room was nice and clean. The bathroom sink was separate from the shower and toilet, which was nice. The rooms have a front and back door, one to the porch and one to the inside hallway. Free wifi. There was no coffee maker in the room (but there was a recliner, oddly enough) so I went to the breakfast area for a coffee. Seems like there were a lot of choices for breakfast and you could choose to sit inside or outside, overlooking the bay. I would recommend this for anyone travelling Downeast Maine and needing a good place to stay the night. read more

My goodness - way beyond our expectations given the price ($140-something) (stop at the tourist office in Belfast for a list)!! We needed 3 beds, so they gave us a room with a stunning view of an emerald lawn sloping down to the bay with boats tooting back and forth. Beds were sublime, with soft pillow tops; modern bath and fixtures; new TV with lots of channels; iron, hair dryer, and a coffee maker which we didn't use because the continental breakfast offered whatever you might want*, with the same great view and wifi. We'd been on the road all day, this place saved us from a guaranteed evening of bickering. Oh, and a heated pool!! And it's near Perry's Nut House! (which sadly doesn't open until 10, so we didn't go, but still.) *Maybe not, now that I'm reading other reviews. They had coffee, juice, fruit, yogurt, bagels, pastry and cereal. Jeez - what more could you expect from a "continental breakfast"?? read more

Very "ok". Clean and simple almost to the point of too simple. I felt the whole place was a bit sterile. If you're looking for New England inn this is not it. There are plenty of other choices in the area. This is very much a clean, simple, newish motel. The whole place felt like being in a mobile home trailer. Lots of road noise all night. While the advertisements claim it has ocean view. Well, it does on one side but there is a big yard/field between the motel and the ocean. Breakfast was simple and perfectly adequate. This hotel is ok in my book.... if you are an old couple in your 70s. Front desk guy real did not have good feel for the area and night life and for restaurants in town. I really did not have good view of the water due my room was on the street side, but booking with hotel .com gave me cheap rate in area with bad view (it not the hotel's fault). Lobby of the hotel was small but there had sun room area that was off the lobby that used in morning setup for breakfast. Furniture in rooms where from the late 70s or early 80s and could use little bit of updating. Bedding had smell to it but it was clean. Bed spread and blanket could use cleaning or be replaced. But the room itself was very clean. The walls are paper thin you could hear in to the hallways and the other rooms. I would stay in this hotel again just see if service would be different. The staff is incredibly friendly. The rooms clean and very comfortable. Our room had a king sized bed and a pullout sofa. Plenty of sitting room for cocktails with friends. Refer and microwave. The continental breakfast was not spectacular. Apples, bananas, cereal and pastries. Toaster for bagels and toast, the view of the water helped. The back rooms have ocean views and balconies. Try and reserve one of those if you can as it is a great place to sit and relax. Dog friendly. The restaurant next door is moving so hopefully it will be replaced. BTW highly recommend you dine at the Nautilus in Belfast during your stay. read more

My experience at the Belfast Harbor Inn was enjoyble, until I was notified that they had charged my card not one but two fradulent charges. I had to go through the process of filing a claim, and the staff apparently denied charging my card $500.00 for the stay plus two more charges for $500 each, making it a total of $1500. We have come to appreciate its availability, and ability to provide consistent accommodations. There is also a continental breakfast which my husband likes... We have lived in Belfast for many years and recall the always well maintained Belfast Motor Inn. Those days are long ago. The beautifully renovated and updated Belfast Harbor Inn crosses the line from motel to hotel with ease and with its recent additions and renovations is as nice a room as you can expect to find anywhere and often you'd pay much higher prices. We stayed in the Inn because we don't have TV and wanted to watch the Oscars this February. First off: discard any reviews that were written more than one year ago. This may as well be a brand new property after a total renovation and new construction. Everything glistens and is warmly and casually inviting from the indoor pool, dining area, lobby, portico, halls, elevators, halls, and the rooms themselves. The room is thoroughly modern and feels newly built. It simply does not feel renovated. Everything is in perfect condition and has a quiet elegance from bed, furniture, chair and couch. Microwaves and fridge, coffee makers, and a great TV. We did not get to enjoy the view of the ocean and that is one thing that has not changed, as we came and left in the dark. An added bonus is how close the Inn is to downtown Belfast by foot, bike, or car. And a short distance to lots of good places to shop or eat. I have traveled for business all over the USA: this is a really nice property, room, and site at a very fair price. You will not be sorry you stay here. read more

Very clean (which is big for me) and comfortable beds. The temperature control in the room worked nicely, too. We had an oceanside view that was nice, but the parking lot between our room and the ocean blocked the view to some extent. There is a large lawn between the inn and the beach, and it's hard to find the access to the water (it's there, just look for it - far left - there's a little path). It's not in town and not really walking distance unless you want to walk the main roads. The wifi was terrible, and often did not connect. The staff was all right - not particularly friendly. The continental breakfast was the bare bones continental. I'd stay here again simply because of the cleanliness. read more

So these guys have a branch called Yankee Clipper Inn. We looked these guys up at AAA and made a reservation thinking its small business, we should support them. We had a reservation to stay at the Yankee Clipper on 10-7-2011 for one night. I paid $99 with taxes it was $105.93. We were given room number #3 keys. We went to room 3, guess what there was a couple in the room, and we walked into them. I went back to the Belfast Inn which was 1 mile away. We got keys to room 9 and stayed in that room. The room is nice, I am not complaining about that. We wanted to call and let them know to fix the key system. Guess what, their Manager Michael Schnetzer is such a jerk. First someone from the front desk talked to us and said "we are sorry what credit card did you pay with", and offered a refund without us asking for it. My wife called me to get the credit card info. Next time she called they flatly denied having talked to her. Finally she gets around to talking to Michael and He accused my wife of lying about talking to the front desk about it. He said she must have called a different hotel. If this was not enough - He said I do not understand why you have a problem, if someone it has to be the other couple on whom you walked in. If I get around to talking to him - I want to ask him if he has ever walked in on a couple in bed and if so did he feel extremely happy after seeing people in their underwear on their bed. She told him that we are not lying, this is exactly what happened. He said "No one from my staff talked to you, I know my staff well. What do you want me to do" at which she said "For starters an apology will be nice". And he bluntly said "Sorry that you got the wrong door key" to which she responded "Wow are you kidding me, I am surprised that you have such bad customer service. It amazes me that you are more concerned about their staff than to the customers who give money to stay there." He did not have any response, to which my wife told him that we will make sure we tell all our friends not to stay at your place. He said "well ok" and hung up. I called up after this to talk to him and ask why he was rude to my Wife who was trying to give feedback. I tried to leave a voicemail for him, but the VM hung up. I will possibly hear from him, but who are we kidding. This is a recession, why are we paying 100$ a night to stay at places which have such bad customer service and accuse their customers of lying. read more

The young lady who helped out in the morning for the continental breakfast was helpful, knew the area, and very nice. We brought our two dogs, and they also were made to feel right at home! We had made a reservation at a motel up the road which was very scary looking, so we drove down the road looking for "vacancy" signs. We stopped at the Yankee Clipper Inn which we had stayed at before in the winter and they were full but suggested we try its sister hotel, Belfast Harbor Inn. The front desk gentlemen were very informative and helpful. They checked us in quickly and then we got to our room which had a king bed, sofa, tv, fridge, small deck and an ocean view....it was so pleasant. I wish we were there for more than one night. The Belfast Harbor Inn - on the Penobscot Bay side - is an outstanding place to stay. To wake up with the sun rising over the spectacular Bay was a joy of my life every Tuesday morning last winter and spring when I taught at one of Maine's universities. The staff members are excellent - friendly and hospitable - and the rooms simply, yet comfortably furnished and impeccably clean. Each room on the Bay side has its own deck. You can also walk down a huge lawn to the water. Belfast's stores and restaurants are close by. The spacious breakfast room overlooks the Bay. When I read the newspaper - complimentary - occasionally glimpsing out at the water, I felt like I was on vacation. A Boston resident who considered the Inn my home-away-from-home, I kept a postcard of the Belfast Inn to remind me of a place that is relaxing, calm and a great place to appreciate the stunning coast of Maine! read more
