Suites at Belfast Bay Inn - Bedroom in Suite 301

Well damn. One night I'm eating pizza that fell on the floor, the next night I'm staying in a…read moregorgeous 4 Diamond boutique hotel. UPGRADE. Judy and Ed, the owners, held the door open for us as we approached the entrance. The lobby had beautiful chandeliers and fall decor. We pleasantly chatted about how similar MN and ME are with them as we checked in. We received a pair of actual keys to our room, which was a refreshing escape from electronic this and selfie that. Since we were only in town for a night, we stayed in a double-queen room instead of a full suite. We had our own separate entrance to the room from our own private patio area, which made it feel like we were entering a vacation home. Every detail in the room was luxurious. From the Bose stereo playing jazz, to the fireplace, to the ornate furniture, to THE most comfortable bed and pillows, to the hardwood hallway leading to the large bathroom with light dimmers. In the morning, they set-up a wonderful breakfast in-room for us: spinach-feta frittata, spring salad, fruit salad, blueberry-lemon pound cake, OJ, and coffee. Having to check out and leave really sucked. Additional info: Must book weeks in advance, as they only have 8 rooms. Park in the front to check-in, then you can re-park in the private lot in the back. They are right next to the Co-op and within walking distance of basically everything in town!

The biggest selling point is the adirondack covered yard that has a lovely water view. All the rooms have a view. They also have outdoor fire pit nights, free hot chocolate and coffee, a hot tub, sauna, and pool. We loved staying here as an alternative to super busy Bar Harbor for our Acadia visit. The only reason this isn't a 5 star for me is because the musty smell in our room. Our room was not too far from the pool. We were able to open the window and our back door so this helped with the smell. The front desk was also beyond kind and helpful. The free parking lot out front is huge so we never had problems finding parking. This was a comfortable stay for the few days we were in town.

All rooms face the bay and have their own balcony. Lots of amenities including a gift shop with Belfast branded coffee mugs, clothing, stuffed moose, etc. A fitness center, a pool, hot tub and sauna, lots of lawn games including giant chess, and a back deck with couches and a propane fire pit. They sell wine and beer at the front desk and it was a perfect night of relaxing outside under the stars by the fire with a cold beverage. Our room was clean and spacious, the front desk employees were kind and helpful, and there was plenty of parking close to the entrance that led to the room. Though this hotel is on the other side of the bay and therefor a bit far out of downtown Belfast, it was still a great and relaxing place and I'm glad I made the choice to book it.

Colonial Gables Oceanfront Village - Kitchen #48

We fell in love with the cottage and the view and always personally request the same cottage when we visit. What's great about the larger cottage is that there are 2 queen beds in one bedroom, a king in the master and a pull out couch. We have several family members who come and go while we're there and there's always a place for them to sleep. Cottage #48 has everything already said above plus a massive deck overlooking the ocean with plenty of seating for everyone staying in the cottage. There are two entrances to the deck, one from the master and one from the living room. The only downsides are (1) the smoke from the fire pit below, (2) the number of people who randomly use your trash bins because they walk by on their way to their cabins, and (3) there's no overhang on the deck so you can't enjoy it while it's raining. It is a dog friendly resort. I have a family member with severe allergies who never has issues despite knowing that dogs have stayed in our cottage. On our recent visit, we were able to bring our sweet dog Churro and everyone was super great with him and understanding that he's a nervous dog. The location is great. I can't recommend enough.

The decor is a bit dated and a bit over the top, but that's a small criticism. The location on the beach is nice, but traffic on Rt. 1 can be a little loud, for those of you inclined to sleep in. I would definitely book one of the cabins next time, as their beach location is charming and away from the road. Be aware that if you check in after 8:00 pm, there won't be a front desk employee on site, but your keys will be left for you.
