Upon checking into our cottage we found it to be freshly renovated with new paint, furniture, windows and even a flatscreen TV, and about 10 minutes after settling in Suzen even brought us a loaf of freshly baked bread. I could go on and on about the accommodations and views but what really sets this place apart is that it is family run in the truest sense. You don't see places like this anymore. The staffing is provided by Suzen and four lovely European girls she had come up to help her for the summer; whether you want ice or an ice cold beer, the staff is more than happy to oblige. The food in the Cockatoo Portuguese Restaurant is fantastic, bringing the taste of Portugal straight to your table. Suzen's husband is the seafood dealer on the island so all the traditional Maine favorites are brought straight from the boat to the kitchen (not exaggerating). He was happy to oblige when we had a special request for larger lobsters than were on the menu, and even offers all the cabin guests a trip on his personal lobster boat. The prices in the restaurant and bar were very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and drink. The views are unbelievable and the 14 cottages are stretched across the land in such a way that you aren't ever too close to other guests, ensuring privacy and quiet relaxation. Furthermore the property offers two private beaches and nature hiking. When we were leaving I asked Suzen what her favorite part of running the place is and she said "I love making people happy and giving them the perfect vacation", my experience there shows that this is true. This resort is her life and you can tell she put her heart and soul into it. If you want a relaxing Maine vacation the Goose Cove Resort is definitely the place to go!

Compliments to the chef who designed this menu, and those in the kitchen who executed it so well. The orchestration of flavor profiles... the organic tomato slice with the perfect acidity, the pickles with a little smoke on top of savory sour, the caramelized onions with their rich, dark, sweetness. Then the juicy, meaty, medium rare paddy that reminds you of what devouring flesh- a big fat piece of meat that feels like life itself- vitality, and one that has to be grilled in heaven.... They even intentionally blackened the top half of the brioche bun to give the whole thing more smoke... but done just right so there's no bitterness. Everything is so divine and to be sing about in the symphony of flavors in this burger. I was almost crying gobbling this down. Oh the pleasures of life! So I'm happy with pretty basic lodging. Having said that... I've wanted to stay at this place for years. Vinalhaven, on the water, literally on the carvers pond causeway, and semi dog friendly. The owner Phil is a bit New England taciturn on the phone, but very genuine and responsive in person. The facility is pretty remarkable. I've seen cribstone causeways before, they are not uncommon in Maine, but a motel literally built on top of a tide race. That's pretty special. The room I stayed in (one of the 2 I believe) dog friendly rooms; Room 1, while non water view was still very nice. The fact that I could hear and feel the tide ebbing and flooding under my feet made up for the lack of direct water view. One queen 1 daybed couple of cots. Full kitchen microwave pots etc with some lovely balsamic vinegar and olive oil which came in handy. Full but small bath. Mixed tile and carpeted floor. Comfy bed nice linens, my dog loved being able to leap from the big bed to the daybed and back, bouncing off me along the way. She's a little maniac. Basic bath amenities. Wifi and smallish flatscreen. Kayak bike and car rentals on site. Great restaurant directly across the street. Not luxury but pleasant. It isn't cheap, but nothing on the coast of Maine in the warmish weather is. 195 plus applicable tax. I'll stay there again.

Top notch bed and pillows. It's about a twenty minute drive to Bar Harbor, but it's easy and quick once you get the feeling of the layout. The "office" has extra swimming towels, movies, and books about Acadia. It's really awesome how the owners, Tom and Vickie, care about their customers. A downside was barely seeing the owners! We went in during their office hours but didn't see them. We received an invoice, and I was sad to not chat within our 48 hours of staying there. The 10am check out also was pretty brutal. You also clean your own cabin, which is okay, but we made breakfast and tea- doing dishes while packing up and paying the expensive price before 10? That was not great. It's pricey here, but it's so luxurious and beautiful, it's worth the splurge.

They have a board that announces what is for breakfast, which is nice to have an idea, and they do alternate between a sweet and a savory breakfast. Food was good and a bit more on the creative side, which was appreciated. Parking is available and the B&B is located within walking distance of Southwest Harbor restaurants. There is even a shuttle during the busy season to bring you over to Bar Harbor.

A few examples: during breakfast there is a surprise juice shot every morning, classical music playing in the background - just the right volume to be enjoyed, a small photo frame on the door frame of the balcony - reminding you not to miss the beautiful harbour view, trail guides available for borrowing during your stay... And the list goes on. Worth mentioning that I could not have wished for a nicer place to stay during the visit to Acadia park. We will certainly return if we make a similar trip in the future.

She was most gracious and very helpful every time I had a question. We got two rooms. My friend stayed in room 18 which has its own bath and a queen size bed. It was lovely and it was on a corner so she had two windows. I stayed in room 13 it had two twin beds and a sink in the room but the shower and toilet were across the hall. I've stated other places where you have to share a bathroom and this end was different in that the Bathrooms were assigned and only two guest rooms shared each bathroom. My bathroom was never occupied. I'm not sure anybody was in the room that shared my bathroom but if they were, I never saw them. As you do have to walk across the hall to get to your shared bathroom, guest robes were provided. The bed was comfy. You could open the window and enjoy the island breeze. The room, both my guestroom and the bathroom were very clean. One thing that was surprising given the age of the building and that the hotel was pretty full was that it was quiet. I've never heard anyone outside my room or really any noise at all. There are several small rooms off the lobby, where you can sit and read or just enjoy an intimate conversation. All the furniture looked to be in good shape. Nothing was shabby or worn out. There is a porch out in front of the Inn that overlooks the water. It has rocking chairs on the porch and Adirondack chairs out in the yard. It is lovely. Unfortunately it was a rainy day. The first day we were there, but that didn't deter us from exploring the island. The hotel has a refrigerator where you can place your own bottle of wine or anything you need to put in there. But it is a bit tight so don't expect that you're going to put a lot of food in there. The Inn has a restaurant and I'm going to review that separately. Breakfast was included. I would definitely stay here again if overnighting on Mohegan Island..

It ended up being one where we had a pretty big storm, and that actually made this hotel an even better place to stay. Basics: great location right downtown (if you look at the map and it looks like it's a bit out of the downtown range, it's not; this is a small town and you can walk from 250 Main to the heart of it within 5 minutes). The hotel itself doesn't have parking, but there's street parking or you can park free in the harbor lot across the street (you may want to check this if you're coming during high season). The welcome vibe is immediately evident not only from the super nice and helpful staff, but because check-in time is also when 250 Main starts its happy hour wine social downstairs, which is perfect! And if you reserve directly with the hotel, you get a complimentary glass of vino. I literally met friendly people from the minute I checked in, and we hung out with a glass of wine for awhile before heading out. You can purchase from a small menu of wine and beer until around midnight, which turned out to be a great thing when the storm rolled in the next night of my stay. With the warm and relaxed vibe, hanging out in the lobby area is part of the experience. My room was a queen room with a small balcony overlooking the harbor--which on their website is described as "small," but it definitely is not! Fantastically comfortable bed (which honestly seemed larger than my own queen at home); big bathroom with an awesome rain shower, heated towel racks, and robes; plenty of space to move around in the room itself, which also had a desk and a little sitting area. Oh, and super high ceilings and HUGE windows. While I neglected to get a pic *inside* the actual room [insert facepalm here], check out the cool views of the snowstorm from the windows and balcony. If you don't want to venture out for breakfast in the morning, there are light options available (croissants, yogurt, fruit, etc.)--with delicious coffee from local Rock City Coffee. Huge points too for keeping a coffee and tea station open in the lobby all day and night. We were on our honeymoon and she was more accommodating than we could've ever wished. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. Fuchias line her lovely wrap around porch; the garden is like a Victorian dream. You can see views of the wonderful ocean and sunset from the cupola. She was sweet enough to allow our service dogs to stay, and she spoiled them rotten. She had every type of drink and sweet, snack, chocolate and treat you could ask for (at a minimal fee). The house is beautifully decorated. The bed was the most comfortable bed that we've ever stayed in other than our one at home.We spent one day in Acadia and found the drive between Sargentville and Acadia absolutely beautiful. Annie even had a perfect picnic basket in which she allowed us to pack a wonderful picnic to take to Acadia. She also recommended an awesome local spot called the Fishnet that had amazing lobstah rolls ;) If you're looking for a nice place to stay that is not a tourist trap, it's totally worth the drive. We quickly realized that Wi-Fi in the entire Acadia to Sargentville area is very limited. Although Wi-Fi is available at Annie's, it is limited. I had issues on my laptop, however my husband watched an entire movie on his iPad. But, seeing as we're from the mountains, we were completely understanding of the fact that when you're off the grid you should get off the Internet. I have already recommended Maplehurst to several friends. Annie brings southern hospitality to the most northern part of the US.
