Beautiful bnb! Friendly owners and fantastic decor/vibes. We visited in early spring and were super cozy here. Easy lyft into downtown or excellent place to stay in and read in the lounge. Highly recommended.

This is not your grandma's bed and breakfast. If you like some modern chic with your Victorian charm, then book yourself a stay at the Mercury Inn. It is located in the lovely Parkside neighborhood and only a stone's throw from an eclectic variety of Portland spots. Self check-in was easy peasy. Tim texted me well before the regular check-in time that our room was ready. We entered using the provided pass code and our key was waiting patiently for us. Parking in their driveway is an option, but it's not absolutely necessary. Street parking was ample and painless. We stayed in Room III on the second floor. While not the most spacious room, every inch of space was efficiently utilized and it had everything we needed, right down to a wine bottle opener. (The bathroom was plenty big though.) The mattress and bedding were blissfully comfy and a sloth's delight. The second floor is also home to the artfully furnished and decorated common room. It was great to pop in for a coffee or a snack, a guidebook, even a DVD or two. There is also a handy refrigerator tucked away by the rear emergency exit. Tim's locally sourced, buffet-style breakfasts were a real treat. We feasted on frittata, grits, roasted root veggies, hearty bread and jam, scones, muffins, and heavenly yogurt with maple syrup and granola. The cider was spectacular. Tim himself hung out in the dining area every morning and greeted everyone. He was a pleasure to chat with and had some great recommendations. (We unfortunately never got to meet Jake.) Mercury Inn is a standout in a city full of creative and ambitious ventures. They succeed at both providing a hospitable stay for guests and incorporating local vendors and sustainable practices into the overall experience. On top of all that, their prices are unbeatable, even during the on-season. It was the perfect home base for our Portland adventure.

It isn't super close to Old Port, but it's about a 20-25 minute walk, even faster if you have a car or bike. Our host, David, was so gracious and kind. He gave us all kinds of tips on where to eat, what to see, and which neighborhoods to check out. And the breakfast options. Holy moly. These are some of the things David made: lobster souffle; turkey bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast puff pastry; raspberry custard; pancakes with wild blueberry compote; lobster home fries. Honestly, some of our best meals in Portland were eaten right in this very B&B. He even puts snacks in the second floor lounge area (there's also tea and chips) every day, and on an especially hot day he put out a pitcher of pink lemonade. It seems like almost all the cooking and cleaning is done by him. I'm not sure how he manages it and yet everything is flawless, but there you go. Reserve your room early because it was booked solid the whole time we were there. Totally worth it.

Newly updated this room was so comfortable (loved the gas fireplace). The Inn owners Dale and Misael are very genuine, outgoing, informative and very knowledgeable about the history and places to eat in Portland... steered us to great venues. Continental breakfast was good and we loved the set up of the dining area and having access to snacks 24/7. Thank you for the great ambiance and hospitality. We plan on returning! (2024 Visit, still a wonderful establishment in a perfect location in Portland) (2025 Visit, exceptional as always!) P.s. (2018) We found our room, next to the front entrance, to be quite acceptable. We were a little worried by some of the reviews, but we've had far noisier experiences in those typical long huge hotel hall ways with the throngs of people walking through, getting ice and elevators. Street noise nothing. Even if the windows had been open the noise was just normal. Unless you need to bed yourself in a complete vacuum don't let the negatives count this room out.

None of which exists, not found despite our extensive exploration of the Premises. No piano, not common sitting area. Instead, a narrow, steep staircase with a curve making it impossibly difficult for us to carry luggage up this flight of stairs. Let's also start with our call at 2pm on the day of our arrival. A courtesy call to advise them of our arrival time. The phone rings, and after several rings, a voice answers. Not with "good afternoon, Percy Inn" not with "hello" or not with "hi this is the Percy Inn", but simply with a bothered "I'm listening". That's all. Huh? Ok. We arrive. No one there. No one answers the doorbell. No one greets you. A guest happens to open the door. Lets us inside. There's an envelope on a desk with my name and instructions on where the room is and a few policy notes. We carry our luggage up a 20-step narrow curved staircase to our room. The next morning we wake early and go into the adjacent breakfast room. A gentleman walks in carrying a tray. No "hello", no "good morning", just a pissed off "coffee isn't ready" clearly annoyed by our presence. Once breakfast is ready we discover there is no cooked meal. Just a simple continental breakfast with hard bagels, Raisin Bran and yesterday's leftover pie. We finish eating and a different gentleman (clearly the owner) comes into the breakfast area. No hello. No "how was your evening?" No head nod. Nothing. We grab our suitcases, and as we are heading downstairs, he calls out to us with "I'll be right down to check you out". A lesson in how NOT to run a Bed & Breakfast. One star for location. Zero stars for everything else.

Upon our arrival, there was no one to greet us or direct us to our room. Instead, there was a locked front door and a note saying the entry instructions were included in an email sent sometime earlier. There was also a phone number to call if we needed help. So, standing there on the stoop, in the rain with my wife and our luggage, tired from a long day of driving, I called the number. Milan answered and repeated what the note had said about the instructions being sent via email sometime earlier. So now, still standing on the stoop, I'm scrolling through emails trying to find the one they sent me a day or two earlier. I eventually found a lengthy email with all sorts of information, most of which was irrelevant to us. I sifted through that haystack of verbage and finally found the needle containing the entry instructions and got into the place. Once in, we had to search around to find our room, eventually found it and got settled in, a little frustrated at the experience of getting there. Nevertheless, the room was nice and Milan later showed up (evidently sensing our irritation at the hoops we'd been required to jump through) and told us breakfast was served at a second inn a block away and we were welcome to join them in the morning. We passed on that. If you like the modern e-era, minimal human interaction and packaged treats from Costco, this place is for you. On the other hand, if you're looking for a little nicer experience, you'll be disappointed.

Considering how long this building has been standing, I'm amazed with how well everything looked overall! Beyond the exciting aesthetics, I can't even put into words how amazing and kind the staff were! Nicolette and Danielle were incredibly accommodating and pleasant. They helped with our bags the moment we walked in, showed us right to our room, made sure we had everything we were looking for and were still so chipper when I went down stairs to ask some additional stuff! The mini breakfast smoothie I had with granola on top the first morning I was there...... SO DELICIOUS, especially with the coffee they had available. The morning after they had the perfect portion of pancakes that were delicious, along with a cucumber and grape salad with a yogurt poppyseed dressing! As someone that doesn't often go outside of my normal food comfort zones, it was SO worth the try and I didn't even need to leave my hotel! Other than the whole room being beautifully hand painted, the bedroom and bathroom were extremely clean! Please explain how this 8+ bedroom older than god residence finds itself listed as a hotel on sites such as Expedia and Hotels.com. Little startup investors bill themselves as hotels when all they seem to be are old homes with a bunch of beds and $$ signs in someone's eyes. The Pomegranate Inn is the latest in the line of promised romance and failed expectation. My recommendation? Check in at the local Holiday Inn instead.

The new ownership and management do not appear to be invested in the customer experience. As a matter of fact, Hemanth the manager parks in the only handicapped parking spot in the back lot. And no, he is not handicapped. I parked on the street and got a ticket. (I was never told upon check in that the inn has an additional lot.) Two of the other employees also park in the tiny lot out back, which forces guests onto the street or in the overflow lot. The new management, when I explained that I had not been told about the additional lot, insisted that I had been-although they were not there when I was checked in. My check in experience was interrupted by the new manager. Howard was beginning to check me in when Hemanth swooped in from the back room and talked over him. I did not receive a vehicle tag during check in, and only found out that I would need one the following day when other guests were checking in and getting vehicle tags. The toilet seat in my bathroom is broken (you sit down and slide from side to side) and the soap dispenser has been empty since check in two days ago. My room smells like the carpet needs to be cleaned or removed. A very inhospitable experience, and so disappointing that a beloved Inn has succumbed to such poor management.
