one of Bob's amazing breakfasts! Not pictured: fresh, oven-warm blueberry muffins!

We had an incredible stay at the Coveside Bed and Breakfast and highly recommend it! It was in a beautiful location with a vast lawn that oversaw the ocean and had scattered Adirondack chairs, hammocks, outdoor seating, and a wonderful view of the sunrise/sunset from the rooms themselves. The host Bob was amazing -- he was warm and welcoming when we arrived, has a vast knowledge of the area which he outlines in detailed binders, and most importantly is an absolutely fantastic chef! The breakfasts were better than any restaurant and made of locally sourced products. The rooms were beautiful and well maintained with AC, and he had bikes and kayaks available to use for free. He also offered to set up games like cribbage and cornhole when he saw we were playing cards, and was constantly trying to improve our luxurious experience. We had a wonderful time and will definitely return!

beautiful view of the cove

THE VIEW is the draw here. The cove leads to the bay....and the beautiful trees and lawn frame everything else. It's the kind of picture-perfect view that makes you dust off your watercolor paints and channel your inner John Singer Sargent. CAROLYN AND TOM are the other draw. They are fantastic hosts, they are warm and friendly but also know to leave you alone when you want your peace and quiet. They let the wonderful house, the breakfast and service speak for themselves. They're the kind of hosts that 10 of 10 people will say "They were perfect." There are a lot of B&Bs out there that people will say "This place was great BUT..." The reason no one has any caveats when mentioning Coveside Inn is because of Carolyn and Tom. Some other reasons to go... The breakfast makes it a destination itself. Carolyn whips up wonderful fluffy pancakes and bakes amazing muffins along with other treats. Ingredients are always the best of what's around locally and you can taste the love and care that goes into each meal. It has none of the cheesiness of typical bed and breakfasts... the decor is tasteful but still keeping at its country theme. The building is new-ish (10+ years?) and not a historical building but it has all the charms of an old house. Every thing is CLEAN. Nothing looks worn out, rusted or fading. The walking distance Five Islands Lobster Company is the lobster shack of your dreams. It's what you expect it to be in movies or magazines. And the lobsters are good. Really good. No doubt tricked in your brain to think it's better because of this "I'm in a romantic movie shot in Maine" feel. We've stayed many times and we'll keep going back.

Great place to stay. Free state park pass, which you should use. Probably the best pancakes I've ever had.

From the moment we…read morearrived, the magnificent harbor view beckoned us to sit in a big ol' rocking chair on the Inn's lovely porch, cocktail in hand & relax completely into the moment. Oh & sunsets? Outstanding! Our first moments at Grey Havens were so warm & welcoming. Actually even before arriving, calls with innkeepers, Ali & Carlos, had us beyond excited for our initial stay. I say initial because of course we definitely will return & soon I hope! I could list endlessly all the delightful elements that the Grey Havens team have combined to create a place in which one can truly & gloriously unwind. From the lovely & cozy guest rooms to the gorgeous bay-windowed common room (with its stunning actual bay-view) the vibe is marvelous. Grey Havens feels quintessentially seaside Maine with just the barest but perfect touch of some lovingly placed & demure whimsy to intrigue a curious eye. Our initial stay dates did not overlap with Blue's calendar, sadly. However the many tales we heard of Chef Esau's creations have us drooling in anticipation. We will ensure we enjoy a dinner at Blue upon our return to Grey Havens.

After entering we disappointed by the small size of the room (#101) and returned to the front desk. The friendly/informative individual at the front desk kindly reassigned us to room 103, a much larger accommodation, though it took an hours wait before it became suitable for occupancy. Daily room service is again available and it proved to be very punctual. This is an older facility so don't expect the doors to close or lock gracefully, there are not enough outlets for all your electronic devices and there's not a TV in sight. What will cause you to return year after year as it has us is a glorious setting that seems ever changing as the tide rolls in and out, the day passes from sunrise to sunset, and ever changing weather conditions. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the staff members proved to be very accommodating. The included breakfast was pretty good though there was little variety from morning to morning and a few items went missing over the course of our stay that never returned (e.g. yogurt, jam). We dined at The Pub on our last evening and though there was a wedding reception making demands on the kitchen, we were happy with both the food and service.

I had never been to Boothbay Harbor before, so decided to look there for a place to stay. Of course, finding a place to stay in Boothbay Harbor the week before 4th of July weekend can be a difficult task if you don't have a large amount of money to spend on your lodgings. So after some Googling, I found the Ship Ahoy. Not really in town, but also not too far off. I really liked the fact that their peak rates don't start until July 1 (we stayed there the night of June 29), and it was only an extra $20 to have a room right on the water instead of in the main building of the motel. We were worried when we showed up that evening and the fog was so thick we couldn't even tell there was an ocean right next to us... luckily it had cleared by morning and we awoke to a gorgeous Maine coastline! (See the pictures I added.) As others have stated, this is definitely a motel. The main office smells a bit musty/moldy, and the beds are not the most comfortable things out there. The bathroom was something straight out of the late 60s. But for the price and the view, it was a great find and I would stay there again. They also have a coffee shop/diner on the grounds (only open from 7:30-10 AM, if I remember correctly!), but we didn't have breakfast there so I can't say much about it.
