The entire restaurant was decked out in owl decor, from the menus, clocks, glasses, wall decorations, cookie jars and trinkets, just to name a few. Everything in there was also available for purchase. Everything at the table was scrumptious in the most satisfying way. My scramble was so satisfying, with the cheese and pickled jalapeños and the three poppers on top. The breakfast potatoes were so savory, seasoned just right and the huge flour tortilla and salsa were all perfectly complimenting. We had a choice of three side: French fries, slaw or small salad. The salad was a disaster. Nothing more than a handful of spring mix- that's it nothing else! The house dressing was a red wine vinegar which was not tossed on the salad. Just a handful of spring mix with no dressing whatsoever. Okay, the waitress quickly took care of that problem with a small ramekin of the dressing. All in all the turkey French dip for $19 was a good choice other than a cheap salad. (How about a couple of heirloom cherry tomatoes to at least provide some color.) Now on to the big disappointment- the Wagyu hamburger! There was so much stuff (lettuce?or possibly another handful of spring mix, tomato, some kind of sauce) piled on top of a thin little wagyu beef patty, my wife could not taste the beef at all. She shared a piece of the burger with me and I'll have to say- not at all impressed. Her fries were excellent, however, but when one pays $23 for burger, it should be an allstar. For $12, Chilis makes one of the best burgers in town and you can dress it how you want.

I originally wanted the Asahi but they were out of it so they gave me a Japanese Lager from Los Angeles (?), blanking on the name. The Caipirinia was the other drink which was made authentically as well. No complaints on the bartender. Food was 3 Bao Buns and a Chow Mein entree with grilled chicken added on top. This was the perfect amount of food for 2 people. The Bao Buns were extremely soft and light on the breading. If you get them from Din Tai Fung they tend to be dough heavy. These were NOT like that. Chicken and Eggplant buns were tasty and had a light kick to them. Noodles were probably the weakest items, I prefer the rice/flat noodles, but these were normal chow mein noodles. But I had to split the dish with my dining companion who enjoyed the noodles quite a bit. I'd go with Udon or Flat Noodles next time and ask them to add chili flakes. No room for dessert but it sounded delicious, something with bananas. Mhmmm!
