I am so grateful to have found the Balkan Bakery! I miss the amazing bread we have in Hungary and this place brings me a feeling and taste of home. Fantastic and 100% originally authentic bakery! I am so happy I discovered this place. Located in a strip mall, the bakery is small, but clean and efficient. Baker is located right there in front of the customers! Food is delicious and freshly baked daily. In fact if you are interested in ordering larger quantities - call ahead and they will have it freshly made within an hour-now that is a good service! Employees are super friendly and are ready to offer suggestions and advice when asked! In particular what I would recommend is burek! It is made with thin phyllo dough which is my favorite-not overwhelming yet still delicious! Kifla was 100% authentic and soft.

Loved this place and wish we lived closer! Welcoming staff, interesting cuisine, delicious food, and incredibly affordable prices. My husband and I shared the spinach burek and the cevapi sandwich. We got a loaf of the rye bread to go. The breads are $3-4 and baked fresh daily. The meat in the cevapi was so tasty. The sauce it came with complemented it perfectly. Burek is the thing to get here, though! It was warm and just phenomenal. Keep in mind that they have a walk-in limit of 4 bureks. Bit of seating and the place itself is very casual, but most people got their orders to go.

What a great little family bakery. This is definitely my vibe. Friendly service along with a cute place to enjoy a casual breakfast Tried a cheese and egg Burek, which is an Eastern European pastry. It was delicious. And the coffee here is pretty good here too. I'll definitely be back and I'm anxious to try some of the other interesting pastries they have here.

I see why this place has 5 stars! Small bakery in Phoenix with tasty Burek! My husband and I decided to try three out of four different types of Burek... cheese, meat and Spanish. The were all extremely tasty. The service was great as well. If you are into Balkan food them try this place out!

I finally got a chance to go in and see what they are all about. This is a a family run bakery cooking family recipes. On this visit I had a coffee and baklava. I haven't had a lot of baklava but this was definitely the best I have had. They are very friendly and service is quick. They also have a little market if you're looking for European brands. Pretty chill spot, they do have tables, indoor and outdoor if you want to stay and enjoy your coffee and pastry.

This is a great place to get some Balkan food. The Borek is very light and flaky with the beef. I love the Chevapi with their homemade bread. They have tons of Balkan snacks and treats too. I also highly suggest the cream puffs if they have them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Only a few tables but worth it![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

3/30/24: a friend had given us some bread from Balkan and we decided to check it out for ourselves this particular Saturday morning. What a great place. It's an unassuming storefront, but the second you walk in it's heavenly. There is plenty of parking and there is a myriad of items to curb your cravings. Aside from the baked goods, they have a small store with miscellaneous items. We didn't look too closely at them as our eyes gravitated to their breads, desserts, and other items in the display case. The lady behind the counter was super sweet and she explained to us about how the Figaro treat was named after the opera; that way back when, because operas were so long, during intermission, small treats (packed with sugar) were sold to help the audience stay awake for the next half of the show. We ended up purchasing one of each dessert, a savory item, and a small drink (because the bottle was cool). I cannot remember what the hot savory item was called but hey, pastry and cheese, what more do you need? :-) For all of that, it only came to $29. Balkan Bakery is 22 miles from our house so it won't be a weekly visit for us, but we will definitely return -- we must try more of their baked breads.

Amazing beef burek with delicate thin crust & soft savoury texture with beef! It is similar to "roti canai" & " murtabak" that I had back home. Friendly service & I like the limited menu with homemade fresh baked pastry & breads everyday!

The Best, The Best !! The food was so good and so fresh, i went with my son and we loved it so much. We got creampuffs and wow they are so fresh and so delicious. I got bread and they were so fresh and tasty. The service was great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bakery was so clean and organized, i felt so calm inside and my stress just went away.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It had such great vibes and I loved it![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] 11/10 if you live in Arizona, Go try Balkan Bakery immediately!

I got the peach cobbler cupcake, which was almost $7, and for that price I was definitely expecting more. The texture was honestly so strange. The outside was dry and crumbly, while the inside had this really dense, gummy/doughy texture. Somehow it was dry and doughy at the same time. There were actual pieces of peach in it, but I could barely taste any peach flavor. Overall, it just didn't have much flavor at all. I'm not sure if it was specifically the flavor I chose or if it's because I'm not really used to vegan baked goods. I can definitely appreciate that they offer options for people who are vegan, have allergies, or have certain dietary restrictions and still want to satisfy their sweet tooth. But for me personally, the taste and quality just didn't justify paying almost $7 for one cupcake. The customer service didn't really help the experience either. Since it was my first time, I asked the girl at the front what their best sellers were and what she recommended. I was genuinely trying to make conversation and get some guidance on what I should try, but she wasn't very helpful or engaging. It honestly felt like I was talking to a wall. Overall, it's a cute spot and I appreciate what they offer for people with dietary restrictions, but between the price, texture, lack of flavor, and customer service, it just wasn't for me.

I am infamous in the family for my dessert rxtravagance. But I share with all at our table. Take your choice! Our niece got cannoli, I got lidded shortbread custard cups, vanilla and almond. Sweet D got a cherry and an apple turnover delivered into the box. It is five days later. My sugar intake has dropped a lot. In our home baking we cut sugar ingredients by half. Older Hopi bakers put in enough sugar for a hint of sweet in their cookies. Modern bakers glaze them. I'll take those traditional ones. When I say the shortbread cup with custard was too sweet for me, that's my 21st century palate speaking. The almond cup was a buy-again item for me, still sweet, very almond. The cherry turnover was flaky, the filling tart, oozing fillng and cherries. The gold medal, blue ribbon "I'd buy this again, for sure is the apple turnover. I can't speak on the customer service as we never left our table and our waited just walked over and got what we needed. We were pretty stuffed from our massive meal, but we decided on sharing a cup of gelato just to satisfy our sweet tooth. I peeked inside as our table was right at a little walkway from the restaurant to the bakery. Gelato is just one of many things they serve here. They also have all your typical Italian desserts. Cakes like tiramisu, pastries like Italian flag cookies, cookies like Italian wedding cookies, cannolis of different varieties, and of course gelato. What was suggested to us if we wanted gelato was the hazelnut flavor. I was expecting a little cup for the 6 of us just to get a taste, but what he brought over was a massive serving. I don't know how many scoops it was or even how much we even paid, but we all got plenty with some even left behind. Now this gelato was life changing. Probably the best I've had in the states. I know it's gotta be way better in Italy, but I'll take what I can when I can. Think of a Ferrero Rocher but in gelato form. It was delicious and I couldn't get enough of it. It wasn't overly sweet and it had a little crunch with bits of chocolate and hazelnuts. My sweet tooth was extremely satisfied after having dessert here. The shell had that perfect crisp snap, while the filling was silky, rich, and just the right amount of sweet. It was everything I had been dreaming about and then some. Walking into The Sicilian Baker always feels like stepping into a little slice of Italy. Between the gorgeous display of desserts and the irresistible aroma of fresh pastries, it's nearly impossible to leave with just one treat (don't say I didn't warn you! ). Whether you're stopping in for a post-dinner dessert, celebrating something special, or simply giving in to a sweet tooth like I did, this place is absolutely worth the visit.
