My 8yo cousin specifically requested a red velvet cake for their birthday and unsurprisingly, there aren't a lot of places that offer this nearby that aren't way too sweet/sugary. However, Bake Code does and I have enjoyed their cakes in the past. I ordered online 2 days ahead of time and set the pickup time to be at 1pm. I received the confirmation email with my order number with the pickup date/time/address and confirmed that the $42 charge went through on my card. I arrived at this Bake Code pickup location at 1:45pm and provided my name and order number to the person working. They went around the back to check but couldn't find my cake. They asked to confirm pickup date and time, and I showed them my email confirmation. They apologized and had to text their manager for confirmation. I stood there for about 10 minutes while they were going back and forth. Eventually, without even asking me, they just took the red velvet cake that was on display and asked me to re-write the birthday message on a napkin so they could put it on a chocolate plaque right then and there. It would have been nice to get a heads up on the cake swap - how would I know whether it had been on display for a few days already? It's not like I had any other choice so I let it go. They also didn't offer any compensation for the trouble (I even purchased some mini sausage buns) nor any explanation of what happened. The only explanation I received was "it didn't deliver". What is that supposed to mean? How can I trust Bake Code in the future to deliver what I've ordered on time? Guess I won't need to because I won't be ordering cakes from Bake Code any longer. +1 star for the actual taste and presentation of the cake. Pretty good and not too sweet as expected. It was a little bit dry, but the cheesecake parts between sponges offset that.

I got it sliced and immediately had a slice with butter once I got home. So pillowy soft and delicious! I asked if there was any yeast and they said very little but they have their own starter so it's a hybrid rather than authentic, yeast free sourdough bread. I also got a pork empanada and it was good. I got a fresh, classic glazed donut and with one bite and I was in heaven! It reminded me of glazed donuts I had growing up so it was blissfully nostalgic!
