    Smoked Meat Combo

This may be the best Deli in Toronto for Pastrami. Pancer's spice their own Pastrami and its shows, the taste is excellent and the meat just melts in your mouth. I keep going back here. This time I tried the Smoked Meat which I have to admit is not as good as Centre Street Deli. If you like Pastrami and Ruben sandwiches, then Pancer's has to be your go to place

It's your typical looking Jewish deli. Super busy even in the middle of the week. Menu with so many great sandwich options and your classic sides. We got motzaball soup and the smoked meat sandwich. Delightful! Can't wait to go back and try more!

April 8/2024: Lunch with Jeroen. This place appeared to be a traditional style New York Deli that serves a darn good sandwich! I had the lunch combo ($18.60) of Corned beef on Rye with fries, coleslaw & and Jewish deli, dill pickle! Let's start with the sandwich...generous serving with a good portion of corned beef. Rye was fresh but the corned beef was a little dry (loss of a star). The fries were tasty & so was the vinaigrette coleslaw. The kosher dill was very tasty & a good size! Talkin about keeping ya full after lunch! I needed a nap but that's a good thing! My server "Christine" was a table veteran but quite funny & efficient. Food was served fast. As I said the style of restaurant was a NY Deli. It was busy but neat & tidy & appeared well cared for. The bathroom was clean & modern, so no issues. This is a definite do over!

Wanted to try this restaurant for a while and finally had the chance to. We arrived just before 1 pm on a Sunday and waited a few minutes. This restaurant is constantly busy. It is located in a small strip mall with limited parking and we got a spot as someone was leaving. We ordered the matzo ball soup, the beef knish with gravy, the latkes, pastrami sandwich and the cabbage roll platter. The matzo ball soup came with one large matzo ball and was quite tasty. The beef knish with gravy was filled with ground beef and mashed potato and fried. It was very delicious. The pastrami sandwich was definitely the highlight. It was so juicy and so flavourful. The latkes were really good and was great with the sour cream. The cabbage roll was ok. Overall really liked this restaurant.

    Corned Beef on Onion Bun

Doesn't look like much from the outside but there is lots of space and nice booths to sit inside with full service dine-in. We got in just before they closed so they only had sandwiches and were out of pastrami which I really wanted. Got the corned beef on an onion bun and it was delicious and huge. One of the best Jewish deli sandwiches I've had.

Turkey sandwich ,W fries , I started to eat before pic , needed mayo but delish

My first visit today at noon hour . Was interesting a very good . First it's a non descript deli in a non descript plaza , there are many doors and hallways to enter into a very busy almost packed narrow restaurant. I got the only seat at a table for 4 but it was good , simple deli food I had a Vernors ginger ale and a Turkey sandwich with great French fries and pickle as the combo It was a very thick stack of fine sliced white Turkey on rye There is an exit door not to be confused with enter . It's a great old style Jewish deli . I will try to return when in the north york Toronto area Matza soup looked hearty as did so many plates that past my table by busy but patient experienced waitresses

Was in the mood for a nice deli sandwich and with my favorite deli closed for Rosh Hashanah thought I'd see if Pancer's was open and to my delight it was. Had a corned beef sandwich combo with fries, coleslaw, and a pickle. Would have preferred a creamy coleslaw but didn't really inquire as to options in this regard. Ordered the corned beef extra fatty as is my preference and quite enjoyed. Don't think Pancer's would change my mind as to my favorite deli in Toronto but it's a close second.

    Latkes (small, but they're huge)

Some colleagues were doing a lunch run and asked if I'd be interested. I'm a sucker for pastrami sandwiches so had to order one in spite of having a packed lunch. To note, this review is based solely on the food. I did not go to their location. I tried the pastrami sandwich with two small latkes. The pastrami sandwich was delicious - the meat was juicy and perfectly seasoned. It just melted in my mouth. I didn't get mustard with it, but it was still extremely tasty. The latkes were also delicious. On their menu, it says that they're small, but this is definitely an understatement. Crispy and packed with potato, it was really good. I have had some latkes where it's majority batter and just tastes likes tasteless bread with some potato, but this one was different. I can't wait to return (or visit for a first time) and try other menu items including their matzo ball soup. Good for: deli food, sandwiches

Since everyone is avoiding these places like the plague, service was quick and efficient and I was in and out faster than I hoped as there is so much to see with both the deli side and the butcher side. After reading the reviews I asked for a Montreal Smoked Meat sammie with Swiss and yellow mustard. To go with, I grabbed a peppers, olives and feta salad in a tub, and for dessert, a raisin butter tart. Even though the sammies are not over-priced, if you combine all that, it adds up to a few bucks. The sandwich was excellent! After reading the reviews, I expected a little more of the smoke meat piled high, but instead it had more of a reasonable amount. But omg, the bread stole the show! When I first perused the aisles, I noticed they carry Fred's bread, which I believe Healthy Butcher also sells. If you look at my photo, the bread slices look typical of any brand of mass-produced whole-wheat bread, nothing special. But the taste jumped out at me and over-powered the heavy sweetness of the meat and the tangy sourness of the mustard. Combined together it was heavenly. The salad was ok, can't go wrong with something basic like that and the butter tart was a perfect way to top off my lunch. Actually since I wasn't overly hungry that day I only ate half leaving the other half for later, which made me venture out for a slice, but hey, that's part of living downtown, it's just that convenient to stuff yourself.

A Toronto institution since 1984, this specialty grocery store sells lots of high quality European products as well as has a large deli meat and cheese selection. They also do deli sandwiches where you order at the counter, where the sandwich is made to order. I've heard of this Italian neighbourhood gem for a while now where I finally went to try their sandwiches recently (on a Saturday!). Walking to the storefront, we almost missed the shop as the "La Salumeria" was so unassuming where the colour was fading as well. Walking inside, every inch of the store was filled with products. Reading other reviews, we made sure to pick up our bread before heading to the counter, which had a short line (about only 3 people ahead of us which was a relief since we went on a Sat around 1pm). Near the cashier there were also lots of delicious looking baked goods as well. We opted to grab a kaiser bun and an Italian bread for the house special sandwich. We also decided to get a mortabella sandwich with the ciabatta bun. At the counter, service was friendly and efficient. All the staff at the deli were working hard to serve customers, making sure that we were attended to. Carlo, the owner, was also present in the shop, helping out making sandwiches as well as recommending customers certain cheeses and answering questions. After placing our order at the counter and handing over our breads to the staffs, we waited about 5 min for our sandwiches to be made. Paying at the cashier, the shop takes cash, debit and credit. When we left, there was another staff who opened the door for us. We ate our sandwiches once we got home. The house special which consists of prosciutto, spicy salami, creamy buffalo mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, spicy peppers, fig jam, balsamic vinegar and olive oil, was delicious. The quality of the deli meats and cheese are definitely the highlight of the sandwich! The fig jam also adds a slight sweetness to the sandwich which works incredibly well with the rest of the ingredients. We also shared a mortabella sandwich which consisted of mortadella, pistachio cream, burrata, tomato and lettuce. The mortabella was good but the house special is definitely the sandwich to order! Priced at around $16 each, the portions of the sandwiches are hefty with ingredients packed inside. The ingredients itself speak for themself as they are fresh and top notch! Service was quick and efficient but friendly. Overall, a great spot for take out sandwiches and other specialty grocery store items. They also have a large selection of deli meats and cheeses as well. Definitely want to return to try the rest of their other sandwich options in the future!

Food I ordered the steak dinner (8oz AAA Alberta NY striploin, shoestring onions, fresh vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes). To my surprise, the plating was well done and very impressive. The steak had more fat pieces than I would have liked and the garlic mashed potatoes was a bit dry. However, the steak was cooked perfectly and the shoestring onions were crispy and delicious.

Shopsy's Deli has been around since 1921 when Harry and Jenny Shopsowitz opened a small ice cream parlor below their tiny apartment on Spadina Avenue, in the heart of Toronto's garment district. Their sons Sam and Izzy built the business, and Sam eventually became known as Canada's 'Corned Beef King.' I first heard about Shopsy's when my first real girlfriend (Miriam) told me stories of family visits to Toronto and eating at their neighbourhood deli. Soon after, my friend Norm and I headed off to Toronto to see the sights and eat at Shopsy's for ourselves. And I have returned periodically to this location over the years. This is a great place to satisfy a craving for a delicious deli sandwich (hold the white bread and mayo), along with some crunchy coleslaw and a nice green pickle on the side. And you get a bit of the attitude thrown in for free. My only real criticism is that this Shopsy's is not really in the "neighbourhood" anymore. I love the Jewish-style delis not just for the food, but for the community energy.
