Everything was put together to order. toasted, and served. - Summer sausage (beef, sliced): thin slice of 12 for $1.87 is a good price! On Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, I visited Epicure with a friend who was in an electric wheel chair. Firstly, I commend the Epicure ownership for installing a hand sensory door opener to facilitate customers with special needs. It is drastically lacking around Toronto in general. My serious concerns with the hand sensory door opener, is with the time lapse of the door opening. As my friend was entering Epicure in his electric wheelchair, the door began closing on him as he was only halfway into Epicure. I quickly noticed the door closing on him and rushed to the door to swipe my hand on the sensor to keep the door open until he fully entered. Very shortly after, a senior woman with a walker began entering, and the exact same thing happened to her. It jolted her and she looked unstable from the door closing on her and her walker. It is clearly obvious that the timing on the sensory door opening needs to be adjusted to allow more time for customers with special needs, to be able to enter Epicure "safely" and with dignity. I am respectfully voicing my concerns today, because of the manner in which the owner addressed my concerns above. I spoke with the owner, who identified herself as such, then and there, about the above incidents. Her immediate response to me was, " Well, I don't know how to fix it ". I responded, " Can you please contact the company who installed the hand sensory opener ? " The owner responded, " Oh they are long gone, so just tell your friend to hold the door open as he enters ". I thought to myself, " He is in an electric wheelchair ! Whats wrong with her response ?? There were zero apologies, zero smiles from her, zero greetings. I was not rude to her in addressing the situation. It was very obvious by the look on the owner's face, that she was annoyed by my safety concerns for all customers with special needs, entering Epicure. I feel that, being the owner of Epicure, her first and foremost response, should have been true concern for the safety of her customers. I unfortunately detected zero concern whatsoever. Wow ! Is this how customers should be treated ?? Not in my world. I foresee the possibility of a tragic injury happening because of the lack of concern by the owner of Epicure. Is this what a successful business should reflect ? Profits over safety for its customers ? I personally like Epicure, the neighbourhood go to establishment, but I now wonder whether my choice of a decent neighbourhood establishment has been totally altered by the owner's total disregard for safety concerns and her customer base. I would very much appreciate hearing from other Epicure customers on how they feel about the above situation. Again, I very much like going to Epicure. Thank you. read more

Overpriced food and sandwiches but great selection of local goods. Good deals on coffee

This is a great lunch spot, reminding me of somewhere else in my life, which I can't place. The specials are either $9 or $10 and are a main plus a side, the perfect lunch for us sedentary workers who do not need anything more. Specials included sandwiches made with the items you can see for sale in the store. Like the meats and cheeses and as well the buns. To me that is satisfying to see the source of the contents of my sandwich. They also feature home-made style pizza and lasagna, all basic comfort food lunches. The soups average, and the salads are excellent! The garden salad with your choice of dressing, or the creamy macaroni salad, the vinaigrette style of Cole slaw, just so good I've gone in to just get one of those. They also have a loyalty card where you get a free lunch after buying 8 and I'm on my way with that goal. While they are prepping my lunch I like to walk around the store and admire the interesting packaging used by other countries as most of the items are imported with plenty from Italy. It looks like an excellent place to buy olives with so many choices, although I always seem to get the spicy green ones with the seed inside. They also have the Pie Commission frozen pies which is cool, from a couple of the good guys in Etobicoke. I bought some real Parmesan cheese there and did a taste test with the one I had from No Frills. Yikes, the No Frills version simply tastes like grainy salt compared to the rich deep flavour from the real deal at Epicure. The baking sitting within impulse reach at the til is dangerous so careful there! Nanaimo bars, Portuguese tarts, and all manor of sweets can be hard to resist as a dessert for your lunch. And there's little mini tubs of those addictive spicy green olives right on the counter where you plop down your money just in case you need a Italian-style spice hit to kick off your lunch. this is one of those nice little shops that has a little bit of everything. Includes a deli counter and some pantry snacks like chips/crackers, as well as snack items from all sorts of smaller companies. Maybe you're planning a small gathering, they have these nice small tray cakes too. Whenever I'm working in the area I usually get a hot chocolate. Staff are super nice. Why have I lived in this neighbourhood for 8 years and only discovered this place now when I'm moving out?! :( Amazing service. A girl came in upset, and one of the workers asked if there was anything he could do to help. Offered for her to sit down while he made her sandwich and would bring it out. Not many people would do that. I came in around 1:45pm and they were out of a lot of things b/c of the lunch rush, but were very flexible to make things work. I had the Big M, and they didn't have any buns left so they made it on a baguette. No grilled chicken left so they substited chicken cutlets. It all tasted great. You can make your own sandwich, or have one of their creations - which are much more unique than your "typical" sandwhich place. A lot of homemade ingredients, salads etc. Organic and vegetarian pantry goods, homemade meals to take home (i.e. lasagna etc.) and so many tasty desserts. read more

The staff at the sandwich station made my day! I know i could be a pain sometimes ordering my food. I customized my order with a Blackbird's mini sourdough baguette toasted with butter, I asked for fresh avocado and tomato, which is not on the menu. She was so pleasant and went out of her way to make sure I get what I like! My sandwich was absolutely delicious. I hope they would add this onto the menu. Only one thing that the toaster doesn't fit the whole baguette, toast both sides otherwise it's extremely chewy. The baguette is so good on it's own toasted with butter!!! Today a small container of chick pea salad was going to cost $7.00 - ? - and the bagel I bought was dry and hard even though I was assured it was made today. Sandwiches purchased in the past have been hastily put together, bready and dry, and, again, expensive so now I avoid. I'm quite biased, I grew up near this old world deli and spent many years munching on those delicious sandwich and bread, and when I moved back to Toronto for my grad studies, I was still living in Cabbagetown. To say this place holds many of my memories will be an understatement. Cheese, Ham, salad, and peameal on Rye, a meal for under $4.50. an extra dollar for the coffee. What's not to like? They also have a great price for deli meats, good bread and cheese. A special mention for their homemade baba ganoush, which is deliciously velvety. I'm a Cabbagetown resident and haven't had the opportunity to check out this awesome little shop till today and it is awesome! The fresh bread makes the sandwich... I order the Chicken Deluxe which great... The chicken was moist and tender and the fresh bread was soft... Patti was awesome in asking which garnishes I needed and prepared it on the spot... While they admittedly have a great selection of meats and cheeses the service is so poor and so rude that I just absolutely can't bring myself to go back. This has become one of my go to places when making meat and cheese platters. They have Ace Bakery baguettes and breads which are always tasty accompaniments. I've also used them for creating a big catered spread for me which was well received and had a nice presentation. There is a small menu of breakfast and lunch sandwiches available as well as some prepared food like sausage rolls and stuffed peppers. Prices are okay, service is adequate, and I keep coming back so Yelps 4 star standard of "being a fan" defintely rings true. read more

Love the freshly made sandwiches here, delish! Can be a bit hectic during lunch hour, which would probably be intimidating for a first timer, but once you get the hang of it, it's awesome. Go earlier in the day if you want a fresh bun as they can run out pretty quickly. I agree with some yelpers that the staff can be a bit surly at times, but overall they are really friendly and helpful. The breakfast menu is the star of Epicure. The prices are great and it tastes homemade unlike Subways or Tim Hortons. The staff and owner are very friendly and helps you explain the menu or any other options you might like to grab. It's a very nostalgic and home-y store that all my coworkers love as well. I bought 3 dealfind coupons for this place back in 2010. I used 2 of them right away but misplaced the other one. I found it recently and since it specifically says "NO EXPIRY DATE" on it, I figured they must still honour it. But they don't. And dealfind would not give me a refund either, saying that the merchant had a legally binding contract to honour the expiry date. So now I'm out of the $25 that I originally paid for the coupon. When I called the owner of Epicure, and politely explained my situation and what dealfind had told me about the legally binding contract, she hung up on me! Horrible customer service all around. If you say no expiry date on the coupon, then you have to honour it (even 3 years after the fact)! The owner also tried to lie to me about how long it has been (she said 5 years, even though it's been 3) and about the cost of the original coupon (she said it's only $20, so why am I complaining - well no, it was $25 and I'm complaining because the business practice is really shady and misleading). Needless to say, I will never return. read more

Living close to a place like this is incredibly dangerous - we can't resist picking up treats from here on a regular basis! They've ruined all other delis for us. They have the most authentic brined pickles you can find in Toronto, fantastic home-marinated olives, a wide selection of delicious cheese (our favourite is the 12-month-old manchego), and they stock the best Portuguese egg tarts we have ever tried. I once was a daily customer of this shop for its breakfast specials and sandwiches until one of the employees told a co-worker of mine to "shut her mouth" and then told her to "F--k off". Never in my life have I witnessed such disrespect by an employee to a customer.
