I like glasses with a bit of edge and color. But, in Sacramento?? YES. That Guy has a selection of unique, fun, beautiful frames - I bought two! Dennis the owner and Jules were both helpful, friendly, patient. LOVE the frames but that's not all! Dennis does the lenses himself and these new glasses give me extra clarity, which I didn't expect. Great selection, service, price and lenses. GO! read more

I stopped by one day trying to buy an eyeglass repair kit to screw some sunglasses back together and they refused to sell me one, just fixed it for me and sent me on my way. This is why their yelp star rating is so high, just good people doing a great job, even when they aren't making money. We're lucky to have That Guy in the neighborhood read more

Dennis is such i nice person. He will fix your eyeglasses for such a very reasonable price. And a lot off frames to choose from.

What a great store. I came in looking to have my glasses repaired after I'd rolled over over in them while napping. The proprietorwas friendly, helpful, and professional. He repaired my glasses and stated there would be no charge. There is a large selection of eyewear both eclectic and conservative. Whatever you are looking for when it comes to eyewear you will find it in this shop read more

Great ship, Andrea was excellent and Dennis was really nice. I went there looking for one brand of frames and Andrea introduced new to other frames that suited my face and were also fun. Lol she also introduced me to the term eyedrobe, which I use quite often as I switch up glasses. The shop is friendly and laid back and I will definitely be back. read more

As a California transplant that spent almost 40 years in the optical business, finding this gem of an optical store in Sacramento made me feel at home with the professional help of Dennis and Andrea. This quaint optical store offers an old school experience you can't get at a big chain discount optical. Take your prescription to them and be attended by professionals and a professional optician that know their craft and their business. The frame offerings are vast enough to fulfill everyone's needs and they offer all of the upscale lens and lens treatments that are common with today's eyewear aficionados. Although I live an hour away from this remarkable optical shop, it will be my go to for me and my family. Pricing is more than reasonable for the value, quality and professional attention that they deliver. read more

That Guy is a good guy. I would recommend him as an optician who wants to make sure his customers can see correctly....after all, isn't that why you get glasses...? read more

I first stumbled upon this shop about a year ago after checking out yelp to find a good place to buy eye glasses. I was looking for a new pair of glasses to replace ones that I'd just lost on a trip. Dennis was so helpful in finding just the right pair of glasses with his wide selection of different frames, so that day I purchased two new pairs. Less than a year later around 2 weeks ago, I noticed that my glasses were scratched from everyday use and so I went back to the shop to see what warranty I had left. Dennis not only switched out the lenses, he swapped out the frames of one of my glasses and replaced it with a brand new frame because one of the crystals had fallen out. I don't think most eye glass shops would do this but it's just a testament of the great work that Dennis does. I'm glad I found this place and highly recommend it to others looking for glasses! read more

That Guy Eyewear - Eyewear & Opticians Near Me - Sacramento, California

I had heard about That Guy Eyewear, since I'd been putting their ads together for The Sacramento News & Review, until we had to shut down print operations due to the 'rona (RIP Alt Weeklies).* That Guy was part of a let's try this again, hopeful revitalization of our beloved yet neglected corner of the city on Del Paso Blvd. Sometimes shit happens and we can't do anything but move on. And so we do. Much to my surprise and delight, That Guy has found a new home in the OP. Just in time to replace my 6 y/o glasses! 2 pair--computer and distance. They beat up af. Dennis outfitted me with 2 new pair that are AMAZE! The frames he suggested were spot on. He took my preferences into consideration and came up with a pair I never would have been brave enough to choose on my own. They are FAB! More importantly, I can see. Like really, really see. In the past, I usually go through an adjustment period, where my brain needs to get used to my new set of eyes. Not so this time. I literally gasped when I put on the distance lenses. The fit is 100%. It feels like I've always had them, even though both RXs were new. Check out That Guy! Much recommend! *Silver Lining: The old SNR building is set to become a library :) read more

Everyone was so kind and knowledgeable. Great selection of glasses. Way better alternative to your typical big box stores. Dennis, Jackie and Dr Ulseth were all very welcoming. Dennis, absolute class act. I'd highly recommend his services, eyeglass selection, and his quality work.

This is my favorite eye glass place. I love the personal feel that Dennis the owner gives. At all these other bg company eyeglass place they just see you as a number. But when you walk into this Eye glass place Dennis remembers you by name. I love the one on one feeling atmosphere. I also love that the glasses I got was cheap compared to the last one i got. I felt like i score a great deal. I already came in twice to get my new glasses adjusted. Dennis is a nice guy, great customer service and know his glasses. The place has low parking spaces but it is clean. Thanks Dennis read more

Dennis knows what he's talking about, has been in the business a long time and isn't pressured to 'sell' you products. He's got some really unique styles in his shop that's nestled off 33rd street in Oak Park. He can find you what you're looking for if it isn't on his shelf that day and he's also one of the only people that I've found who can put glass instead of plastic lenses. read more

Very professional and kind you won't go wrong coming here to get your eyes checked or buying a new pair of glasses.

Met That Guy in Tracy. Get compliments on my glasses every day!!! I'm a vintage style gal. Does awesome job of fitting your prescription into what ever frame you get, from him or not! Has great party opportunities like every month I think with discounts. Think I save at least 65% getting eyerobed by Dennis who is so accommodating....must check it out read more

Dennis is great! I had a pair of glasses and needed to update the lenses to my most current prescription. He did this with skill, speed and at a reasonable rate. The frame selection looked good too. Highly recommended. read more

That Guy Eyewear has customers for life! What seemed to take hours at other eyeglass shops, it took about half an hour here! We already had our prescription, we walked in, looked for eyeglasses, Dennis took measurements and we were out the door! When they came in, my husband, who has had difficulty getting the right pair of eyeglasses for years, put them on and said, "these are great!" I was shocked that he was so happy with them as he always seems to have difficulty with his eyeglasses. Another plus was that they cost half as much as the other eyeglass shops! Score! Thanks Dennis, we'll be back!! read more

Dennis was very helpful and he's got a great selection of frames. His lenses were super thin (I've got a huge prescription). Great experience. Highly recommended. read more

If only this website had 10 stars or even more. , I have a deep gratitude for Mr. Dennis Peterson. He Is a very fine craftsman, in the true sense of what it means to be skilled in one's trade the way it was a long time ago when people took pride in their work. I waited a little while from the time I picked up my glasses to write this review because I wanted to be sure that I would be as happy with my glasses after a time as I was when I left Mr. Peterson's store. I am even more happy now than I was on that day. These lenses are so pure and clear that I forget I'm even wearing glasses. I had experienced a quality difference between lenses from some bargain stores and those made by my vision insurance plan. I did not know that there would be a remarkable difference between those made by Mr. Peterson for me, with sensitive eyes and a challenging prescription, and those made by my insurance plan. I am so surprised by the difference it makes that he handcrafted my glasses so carefully and polished them so beautifully. I could not be happier because my glasses feel wonderful. So thank you Mr. Peterson, I appreciate you so very very much. Sincerely, Leslie read more

Denis did an excellent job. My prescription is quite challenging to make lenses for. We had quite a time to get it worked out as it was discovered that for some weird reason the correction on the eye doctors equipment changes when the temporary glasses are put together by the eye doctor. Long story short; just that small oddity produced several challenges to work though. Denis didn't let that stop him though. His technical l knowledge and experience make him even more determined to see this though where I wanted to give up, he encourage me to press on. Great work Denis!....Thank-you read more

Visiting 'That Guy Eyewear' is like having your own glasses frame personal shopper! I had no idea what to expect but walked in after hearing a recommendation on the radio. His shop is filled with frames for what seems like all the ages...modern, hip, classic, traditional...etc. I grabbed a couple of pair and tried them on. Dennis grabbed a pair for me and I was blown away...they weren't like my usual go to style but they were exactly a perfect choice...sleek, sexy, classy, professional all in one! All in all I tried on 25-30 pair (I think I totally lost count). I had to finally make a choice and it was SO hard. I ended up purchasing the pair Dennis originally picked out he's just that good. I'm hopeful he soon fills his spot with a doctor on site...until then I will get my prescription from Costco and make my way over to his location to grab a pair of frames! Service 5/5 Frame selection 5/5 Location 4/5: it's a hike for me (out of the area) but worth the drive. Cute little store front Price 5/5 (note: if you have VSP he is out of network so you will have to submit the receipt and paperwork yourself) read more

Dennis is a superstar. He is highly recommended and is now my go to guy for all of my lenses. He is super knowledgeable about what he does. I brought nine designer frames and he put the lenses in all of them. They came out fantastic. I can assure you that you will be extremely happy. Thank Dennis. See you soon for the next set. read more

I've put of getting new glasses for year, because the last time I tried to get new glasses I had a terrible experience at Costco. The lenses never worked no matter how many times they remade them. In the end they gave up and refunded my money. I talked to Dennis over the phone and he recommended an eye doctor that I was very happy with. I still had problems with the glasses he had made, but he kept on till it was right! He recommended using "the moon rock" lenses and it worked! He never made me feel bad about having to redo the lenses. I had him do lenses for sunglasses when he came up with the solution to my very difficult eye prescription. I couldn't be happier with his professional service. He is a true artist! I've found my eye place forever! Thank you Dennis! read more

This was a wonderful experience from having a variety of fun and funky frames to chose from to the fabulous service. The owner is very down to earth and knowledgeable. Dennis has been great to help me with my transition to BIFOCALS! I stopped in a few months back looking for low cost exam and frames with lenses. He recommended me to Costco for the exam because I have no vision insurance. I went to Costco in Roseville had an exam done and hightailed it back to That Guy Eyewear to order my very 1st pair of glasses in my 46 years of existence . He was super cool and helpful. I told him I would need a while to come up with the full amount of the glasses and he was nice about it. It took me a month but I got the money together and went back. He ordered the glasses and they were ready in a week. When I went back in he assured me that it would take some getting used to the no line bifocal and told me to call with any questions. He was right! After 2 weeks I decided that the no line needed to start higher and went back to him. At no cost and without hassle he ordered new lenses and they were back in another week. I was so excited that I could see again... Yay me.. I have since saved and gotten sunglasses from Dennis with my prescription. He is always warm and inviting and I highly recommend That Guy Eyewear.... read more

Just went into That Guy Eyewear to pick out a new pair of glasses because the frames I have, I've had for about 5 years and I knew I needed new ones. My family had been telling me to go see Dennis for months, and so I went in today with my sister on my day off. Dennis was super awesome and helpful, and being in there looking for the glasses that really felt like they were right for me and my personality made me feel like I was at Ollivander's Wand Shop. He helped me try on 10-20 different frames and was very patient with me as I was trying to decide which frames would help me to be the new me. I chose a pair, and he set to work putting the order in for the lenses. They should be ready in the next day or two, which is a huge relief because it normally takes my eye glass place about a week or two. And his prices are great, so I think I might be back in a couple of weeks to get the other pair that I liked. So that I can finally have a backup pair of glasses that aren't a prescription from a couple years ago. Definitely recommend to anyone on a budget who needs new glasses or even someone who just wants to upgrade the pair of glasses they already have. He can also order new lenses for the glasses that you already have. read more
