My appointment was at the Curtis Park location. Epic experience. Upon entering, I immediately noticed the accessibility of the waiting room and office. Very wheelchair and other mobility device friendly. Staff is kind and customer service provided is excellent. The exam rooms? Ohmyword! Not only wheelchair and mobility device friendly, but each room is equipped with state of the art equipment and clean. The doctor asked questions about professional and personal lifestyle but also about gaming, which includes wearing my glasses as well. The doctor has an understanding of basic VR and can prescribe lenses for my VR headset. Also the doctor recommended Optase Protect spray to decrease the itchiness and dryness that my eyes experience after viewing computer screens for a long length of time; and the Optase spray works! No prescription required and the spray was available for me to purchase while there. Overall, I enjoyed my appointment and left very pleased and anticipating when my new glasses will arrive. Pros: 1. I went in for my appointment on Tuesday, August 11. It is now Saturday, August 16. I have yet to still receive my prescription. Dr Moos and this company use a third-party app in order to be able to get a prescription. I called the office four times to let them know that I needed the prescription fax directly to my pharmacy. I don't need to go through a third-party app. Each time the lady told me OK thank you for the fax number. Will have the doctor fax it right over. I'm waiting at the pharmacy by the way, It's been two hours in the hot sun. so finally after two hours I called the office back. I said they still haven't gotten the fax at the pharmacy. Then they put me on the phone with Dr. Moos, she discourages me going not through the app saying 80% of the time they're going to make me pay full price for a prescription and she was very short with me about not wanting to go through the app which to me makes no sense unless you're making money from using the app.. I told her I don't care about the price I just want my prescription. Can you please send the prescription directly to my pharmacy. trusting doctors, which I probably shouldn't do anymore. I expected to call this morning and have my prescription ready to my pharmacy. But they still have NOT received the fax from the doctor, she never faxed my prescription into my pharmacy. Dr. Moos (which now I'm actually questioning if she's a real doctor because do no harm?) assured me she was going to do that. So I don't know if they're receiving money or something for using this app but there's no reason for a third-party service to be receiving your private medical information in order to get a prescription refilled. I would not recommend this place. I can't see because I can't get the prescription. I need for my eye, so this is affecting my whole life and my whole weekend right now. I can't even drive. I even tried contacting the third-party app which of course there's no phone number. It's some online invisible service that you can't speak to a human at for your own health. That's how much you value health? I thought that doctors were supposed to put their patient's health before money, but I guess not this place I do not recommend it and I expect to see my prescription faxed to my pharmacy on Monday morning. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and the medical licensing board if not. I'm questioning if this lady is actually a real doctor to be honest. read more

Very disappointed in my experience. I was late by 15 minutes which I own. There was nobody in the lobby and the receptionist tried to shame me for being late. I offered to just reschedule and she continued with "I can try and squeeze you in but there are other people coming in". Just got done with my appointment. I like the fact the questionnaire is sent ahead of time and online instead of coming in early and filling out the paperwork before the appointment. I walked in and I wasn't greeted right away. I walked up to the "receptionists" and I stood there a bit before I was greeted. I got checked in and sat down to wait and after a bit someone came up to me to do eye health check then I had to go back and wait. The eye exam with the optometrist was great. She gave me all the information I needed and asked all my questions. She was great. The two stars is for the "optician" who was supposedly going to help me with the prescription and info regarding what's covered by my insurance. Great she mentioned what's covered and how much but I had to pull out info from her like "the price are just for the lenses"? Yes. You could've told me that--frames are separate? Yes. Ok, fine. I got the vibe she just wanted the day to be over. She wasn't helpful apart from telling me what's covered by my insurance etc. I asked what frames are affordable and she said the frames are mixed together in pricing. She showed me one, opened a drawer and said "just let me know what you decide" and walked away. I don't know if she thought I knew what she'd be talking about or if she thinks I should know these things because I don't. I've never needed prescriptions before so I don't know how it works. She seemed like she just wanted everything to be over with and gave off the vibe that I was just one of many more customers who goes through the production line. Yeah....ok. I'll be back for an exam ONLY because I work across the street. I wouldn't buy frames or lenses here even with my insurance based off that interaction with the "optician". I've been coming here for about 4-5 years now and unfortunately the place has declined tremendously. The staff is not friendly, knowledgeable, or informative. Last time they replaced lenses in my prescription sunglasses the technician bent my frames so I had to take them to someone else to get fixed. When I scheduled my next appointment they never informed me that I would be seeing a new doctor that I've never heard of. Apparently loyalty and returning customers doesn't mean anything to them. Also, if you don't plan on buying frames from them, they will completely shun you. Lastly, don't forget they will charge you for every little thing. Had an emergency need to get a same day eye exam for my 94 year old mother (she broke her glasses), and they squeezed her in, and treated her like gold from the moment we arrived, until we walked out the door. Even their summer intern, "Tai" (sp?) was precious. Check him out in the photo, carefully walking her to the exam room (she needs assistance, this wasn't for show). There are so many small nice experiences that occurred throughout, I don't want to bore you all to tears -- but I do want you all to know that this is a very special business operation. I have been coming here for 5 years. When Tiffany Lu, the previous eye doctor was running the place, the staff were kind and listened to your concerns. Tragically, the practice was handed over to another doctor. Now, the staff is in a rush to get as much done in as little time as possible. For example, Johnathon, a man who works there, answered the phone and rather listen to my needs, he jumped to conclusions and started to become hostile. I felt very uncomfortable. When I went in person, a different staff was short with me. Thank goodness for a third individual who took care of my needs, otherwise I don't think I would have gotten my contacts that day. I went in for my annual eye exam; second year with Dr. Moos. Note: as a UCB alumnus, I try to frequent optometrists that graduated from UCB's School of Optometry; I find they are well-rounded in optometry as well as the wellness care of patient's eyesight. The Capital Optometry Staff was very welcoming and were all thoughtfully wearing face masks. They proactively told me that the eye testing equipment as well as the office surface areas in the reception area and front desk were cleaned/disinfected. Natalie, the Optician/Tech, advised me that they have a new, upgraded, patient database; and so she gave me an E-tablet to input my personal information including medical history; she coached and answered my process questions on how to input my data. This took about 10 minutes. Next the Optician Intern, Lakiya, used "Optomap" (a low-powered scanning laser ophthalmoscope that digitally scans the retina). The test is non-invasive and takes only seconds to complete for both eyes. Different wavelengths of laser light are used to capture the retinal images. This new diagnostic machine eliminates the need to do dilation of a patient's eyes. It costs $20.00 co-payment and is well worth it!! Dr. Moos reviewed the digital images of my eyes with me and provided me with highlights and insight of what she looks for. Dr. Moos then conducted my eye exam and was very thorough. She then passed me back to Natalie to select my new eye glass frames and complete my order for new frames and lenses. Natalie provided me with a detailed comparison of the retail cost of my new glasses and the net cost after what my vision insurance would pay. The net cost was comparable with my prior eye glasses. All in all, a great experience with Dr. Moos and the Capital Optometry Staff; all of them are very personable and professional. read more

This is one of those reviews you don't really want to write because you want to keep the place your own personal little secret, but on the other hand you want them to stay in business so you can keep going there... uh...so here I go... It's the end of the year and like most people I procrastinated to use my vision benefits that expire on 12/31. I called another optometry place that didn't answer there phone...twice. Left a voicemail and by lunch never heard back. Capitol Optometry answered the phone the first time and the polite receptionist confirmed they had the brands I wanted and would be open and offer parking validation for my car if needed! (WOOHOO!). I waited till about 2 (still no call back from the other optometry place) and took off. I was warmly greeted by Kim! An adorably sweet assistant that pointed out where everything was and gave me a second to peruse around with clear instructions of what to do with the frames I found that I liked. She kept busy and you could tell wasn't just dicking around till I was ready. Any questions I had were promptly answered by Kim and reception staff was super polite and remember me from calling earlier!! (YEAH I'M MEMORABLE!! ;P ) The glasses selection that I found myself most drawn to was Kate Spade!! ADORBS!! I found the cutest frames, I've also picked out 2 sunglass frames and another glasses frames...for next year. ...It was at this point that Kim pointed out that the frames on the wall are mine. Meaning no one else will get them. There won't be another customer that has the same frame as me! Cool! ...It also made me not want to wait on the cute sunglass frames I found ... but I'll just have to risk it for now....I probably should have waited to write this review till after I got them...but whatever! So, while I was there a guy came in to check if his glasses were ready. It had been 2 weeks so he was just stopping in to see if MAYBE they just hadn't had the chance to call him yet. (Not likely, these guys are ON IT!)... they weren't and they did advise him that there's a heavy volume in December due to everyone wanting to use their benefits. (This prepped me to know I probably wasn't going to get my glasses till January...no worries. It's easier to hear this news when you first order as opposed to waiting forever and wondering what the hell is going on). Oh yeah, and since I came in with my prescription (from last year) they even were nice enough to double check it...on the spot! Super sweet and didn't charge my benefits because it was just a 2-second confirmation my Rx was accurate...but still they didn't have to do that!! LOVE!! So...anyway...that was all Monday...and today (Thursday) I get a voicemail saying my glasses are ready for pick up. ... I called them back to confirm because WHAAA???? Recently, I called and spoke to Yoyo over the phone about getting a Hoya ID Mystyle lens under my VSP Premier plan. Yoyo told me that he has done this particular lens under the VSP Premier Plan and quoted me an out-of pocket cost of $245. Based on his quote, I decided to visit Capitol Optometry with the intent of placing an order. However, before I made my trip to the store, I called and spoke to Yoyo again and he confirmed the same price again. In reliance upon his representation, I made my trip to the optician. Upon arrival, Yoyo changed his story. He said he just found out that VSP did not cover this lens. He offered a different brand for $260. I thought this was a classic bait and switch. Either these people are incompetent or just dishonest. Either way, I would be very cautious about doing business with Capitol Optometry. read more

She's very personable, friendly, don't rush you and don't overbook. Felt very comfortable with her for my first time and will definitely be back. The office is small but it is necessary. Great choices for eyeglasses especially since I'm picky. Think I found my new optometrist.... will definitely be back!! Parking can be a challenge though so plan to be on time. We were patients of another office for 15+ years but after becoming patients of Dr Moos there was no question that we would continue to be her patients at her new office. Her staff was so sweet and helpful. There's a great variety of frames styles and prices. If you've not visited her new office go soon. If you're a previous patient of the office give Dr Moos a chance at being your new doctor. If you loved your previous doctor and that doctor had the confidence in her to take over her practice then give her a chance to show you why. I'm loving my new glasses. At one point we tried going somewhere a little closer to home, but after one visit we came right back to Dr. Lu. Dr. Lu is super friendly and helpful. She has always answered all of our questions completely and we never feel at all rushed during our exams. She remembers us even though we usually only see her once a year. They always have a great selection of frames. Every member of their staff is always very friendly, patient and helpful, but I have to give a specific shout out to Yoyo. He is awesome at helping you choose frames that look the best on you. Not only is he completely honest when something doesn't look the best on you, but he picks out frames you didn't think to try and they are usually the right fit. This is my second review, written especially for the new owner - Dr. Moos and staff. I first came to Capitol Optometry in 2013 when I lived in Downtown Sac. I wanted to support a small local business and I liked the fact that it was owned by a woman "person of color". In the past year or so, Dr. Tiffany Ou sold the business and it was purchased by Dr. Moos. I had some reservations with continuing with the new optometrist since I had built a rapport with Dr. Ou and her family and staff so I was sad to see her go. However, I also wanted to give the new optometrist and staff a chance so I continued with Capitol. They've been helping me for maybe a little over a year now and I'm pleased with the care I've received. They're professional and curious and try hard to be helpful. I recently reached out to them about some older prescription sunglasses. One of the plastic legs broke and I was looking for a replacement. A younger lady named Natalie was helping me and even though they no longer carry that brand, she took the extra effort to research some repair options for me, which I greatly appreciated. In the age of COVID, they've been careful about sanitation. Everyone wears masks and they have a UV machine to disinfect glasses and tools. I'm glad the business is doing well. They seem to be doing well despite COVID and the urban social unrest. The transition to new ownership hasn't been an issue and I feel like I'm getting a good level of care. read more

Dr. Lu and her staff are great! I am a long time wearer of both glasses and contacts lenses. I was satisfied with the brand of contact lenses that I had prior, but Dr. Lu introduced me to a variety of options without pressuring me. She encouraged me to pick my preference based on comfort, vision, and price and she didn't hesitate to order another sample if I liked the comfort but had issues with the vision. I think she ordered a total of 3 different samples for me! I also bought glasses and Yoyo did a great job helping me find a frame that fit my face comfortably (nose bridges are always a challenge - I'm Asian...). He also spent time measuring my face to make sure the adjustments on the glasses were accurate. Yoyo also made sure to calculate every aspect of the glasses/contact lens options with my insurance so that I knew exactly what all of my options were. I've since moved out of Sacramento so I likely won't be going back for that reason, but highly recommend. read more

Tragically, this place has gone downhill. When Dr. Lu and her staff were here the care and service were exceptional. She and her staff were kind and attentive. Since the business was purchased by a different optician and now staffed with different folks, the service has deteriorated drastically. I had purchased glasses there and the staff were very pushy and non-attentive. They did not seem to care to get to know me or understand my concerns. I had to go in at least three times to have my glasses adjusted. They still don't sit right on my face. It is as though the staff are inexperienced. I was very reluctant to call this place after Dr. Lu turned it over to a new doctor and all new staff based on how well Dr. Lu's service was. I had very high expectations for this new group of people and they let me down before I even got off the phone with the receptionist. I called, receptionist was very nice, got a time finalized, etc etc. At the end she told me that the doctor "asks" that we wear face masks to your appointment. I informed the receptionist I have not one but two exemptions and they will be produced at the beginning of the appointment. I was told they will not honor them because their head dr is "immune compromised". So you arent asking, it's a requirement. Why are you running a business that makes you come in contact with people on the regular during a pandemic if you're "immune compromised"?! Dont you think it would be wise for you to stay home? This is the only place that has turned me down for both of my exemptions. I guess theres a first (and last) for everything. So much for getting my eyes checked! The doctors I have seen here are great, however the front desk girls need to be trained how to provide better customer service. Maybe I am biased due to my years of loving all the staff under Dr. Lu, but I find the current desk girls to be somewhat rude, short, and speak using terms that are clearly used specific to that office without explaining what they mean to the patient (ex: I was told I "finalized" contacts at my previous visit. However I was not seen for contacts at my previous visit, I had an annual exam and ordered glasses. I asked what was meant by "finalized" and she said that's what the doctor saw me wearing before & so that's what I'm 'approved' to order.) The annoyance with my questions and concerns was palpable through the phone. I understand customer service is tough right now, but I don't think it is an excuse for a poor attitude. read more

I had a strict budget with my vision insurance and went to SIX other optical stores and was quite disappointed with other stores limited selection and outrageous high prices for dowdy, "dorky" frames and lenses. I was worn out from tromping around Midtown, Downtown at SIX other stores over a two week time frame, without being able to find an attractive pair of eyeglasses. All the frames I saw at SIX other stores looked "dorky" and unattractive, plus far too expensive for my limited vision insurance coverage. Finally, I went to Capitol Optometry and was THRILLED! They have a huge selection of high fashion, designer frames which are hip, trendy and attractive but LOW priced. The prices on their frames are highly competitive and much lower than other optical stores. The entire staff is super friendly, helpful and professional. It was such a relief to find this company after not having any luck at all, tromping around town to SIX different optical stores. Capitol Optometry all sorts of discounts and accept most vision insurance plans. Their customer service is FABULOUS! Especially Yoyo, who spent a great deal of time with me and helped me find the perfect pair of frames which was within my limited budget. I avoid buying eye glass frames "Made in China by Slave Labor" - poor quality and perhaps tainted with lead, petrochemical biocides, heavy metals (?) I avoid merchandise "Made in China" due to so many consumer re-calls due to tainted toxic merchandise. This shop has lots of European, American manufactured frames which are top quality and chic, fashionable - much lower priced than other outlets. Yoyo helped me find a gorgeous Prada frame, made in Italy and "Fair Trade" company at a great price. The lens lab they use is local, in Rancho Cordova - which makes me happy because I try to "shop local" and keep my $$$ circulating in our local economy. There was a slight problem with the trifocal lens not properly lining up and it interfered with being able to read. Yoyo happily offered to send the glasses BACK to the lab and have a new pair of lenses made at no charge to me. You get a 90 day "Do Over" policy if your lenses are not 100% perfect. Most frames have a one year manufacturer warranty. My eyeglasses including frames and lenses was $475 but with my insurance, I only had to pay $36.00 out of my own pocket. Great deal and chic, alluring eyeglasses! The staff is wonderful and always happy, smiling faces. I can tell this is a good employer because they have good staff retention because they treat the workers quite well. It is an indie, woman owned business and Dr. Lu is a great person! Conveniently located on 12th near J street downtown - right around the corner from downtown Fedex. P.S. This shop is O.K. with their open minded policy - if you want to buy frames online at deep discount, bring in your frames and only buy the lenses from them. If you do not have vision insurance, frames can be quite expensive and this shop understands. Be sure to purchase RX PRESCRIPTION GRADE quality frames if you get them online. It is IMPOSSIBLE to take plain old sunglasses from Big Box store and put RX lenses in them! Capitol Optometry also gives great quality eye exams BTW - Medicare DOES pay 100% for eye exams, once every two years - despite their "Medicare and You 2017" booklet does NOT state this! I am a "Customer for Life" and tell all my friends, family, acquaintances and even strangers about this place. Last night while grocery shopping, a stranger said "Cute Eyeglasses". I gave him the business card for Capitol Optometry and he said he needed new glasses and so did his girlfriend. Plus they work near this shop - yippie! read more

I found out recently that my preferred (well, let's say favorite, because it's true!) optician, Yoyo, no longer works for Capitol Optometry. The staff weren't very upfront about this but after stopping in a few times and speaking to another patient I can confirm he no longer works here. :( Such a shame as he has GLOWING reviews, and I (and so many other reviewers) trust his sense of style above my own. It looks like the business has changed hands, as my former Optometrist is no longer there, either. Bruce can add nose adjustable pads to your plastic frames to give you the boost you've been looking for in the glasses department. I was nervous/optimistic and really just went out on a limb as a result of a recommendation from my also bridgeless cousin. I had two pairs of translucent frames done. When I said I wanted to see the frames covered completely by VSP, I hoped I would have a couple of items to choose from so I could use my insurance benefit before the end of the year. In fact, Bruce, optician and office manager, showed me dozens. Dr. Lu says they order every couple of months and rotate out. She and staff are funny and sweet, and answered all my questions. They showed me the glasses website and offered to order different colors (of the free ones!) so I could look at them before buying. They like dishing about eyewear trends, like Hello Kitty embellishments, rainbow color Ray-Bans, and gradient cat-eyes! My "pupillary distance" measurement is no longer a secret. You need this to order glasses online. They know this, and they don't hate you for it. My glasses arrived a little sooner than expected. Yoyo and Kim are cordial, helpful, and most importantly don't pressure you into buying. Kim suggested alternative nose pad frames made for smaller nose bridges. They're built in with longer pads for a better fit. It was the first time I knew about them and I appreciate getting guidance on new stuff customized to me. Yoyo is very friendly, helpful and follows up as promised, every time! They validate parking at the 11th and I st parking garage up to 1.5 hours. read more

I used to go to Dr. Adair but Dr. Lu has taken over his practice. I had heard good things about her from friends who transitioned to her practice. I had a very pleasant experience. They were prompt, were able to get me through the process quickly but I didn't feel rushed. Dr. Lu is personable and makes the exam process as fun as an eye exam process can be.
